If they offered me upper 8s I would probably take it to save on tax and regisitration costs (since I could transfer tags). And of course, the hassle factor.

Doesn't seem like that great of a price... I'd want one with lower miles, too..

Personally, I never understood the appeal of these over a GTI ... at least not enough to justify the price difference. I mean, that's like $6k more than a comparable '08 GTI ... for what? A heavier, thirstier, less balanced model with AWD?

Personally, I'd take an EVO or STI, and trade off a little refinement for the extra performance.
Anywhere from $36k-$42k, depending on location, transmission, and condition.

Saw it at the dealership with an asking price of $33K. Came home to look it up online & see it is listed with an Internet price of $29,825.
Carfax is clean. Lists it as a 2 owner car. Owner #1 leased it for only 5 months & drove 4500 miles. Owner #2 leased the car for 2 yrs 10 months.
Air intake hose & spark plugs replaced @ 13K

What says you about the car's auction price? $24,500 - $25K? They let it go for $27?
Just curious:)

I gave my BIL the numbers you posted and took a look at the Explorer.
It had about half the miles of my same year '02 Explorer, but didn't look any better, plus I pointed out some body repairs.
My BIL asked for the CarFax and the guy kept stalling, so he passed on that one.
Ended up buying an '04 Limited V8 AWD with 80k for 8100 from a local dealer he has known for quite a while.

I'm realizing that I am just not a sedan person, but I got an offer of 18560 for this car and I think it is worth more than that. Retail should be around $26k. Can someone give me a better idea of a real trade in value? I won't trade it in if I can't sell it for what I owe.
They were pretty upfront and said the auction values were around $16k on the low end, which is consistent with what qbrozen said. So how and why they decided to get to $20k I'm not sure, but we sure were happy they did.
As always, thanks for the advice. It provides a lot of confidence with the negotiation process.

let's see.... an alpine white 6spd with 31,021 crossed the block in PA on 2/9. Does that match up with the carfax?
That one got $23,800.
If this particular dealership CPO'd it, then they are going to be into it for quite a bit more. If they just had to flip it, then, yeah, $26,500 or so should do it. But, as you know, BMW CPO costs are quite expensive. Might take as much as $29k to get it done if those costs came out of their kitty. My guess is they'll say their internet price is firm.

You might try a carmax type place. They are getting close to $20k at dealer auction, so if someone wants it for their lot, they might step up on it.
You could always try to private sell it at an asking price of $22,995 and hope for $22k.

This particular dealer I know marks up their CPO costs a lot. That was part of the reason I didn't buy out the lease on my X3 from them back in August 2010. The buyout from BMWFS was $26K & change. They offered to sell me the car for $22,600 ($22,100 with the $500 security deposit I'd already left when I originally leased the X3) + tax. To make it a CPO car they wanted an additional $3K. Their reconditioning costs would have been next to nothing as the car was in great shape & had 4 new tires (2000 miles on them). I've said it a lot on these here boards, I wish I'd have bought out the X3. I've been virtually searching for my next BMW ever since. I'm seriously leaning toward CPO in a few years (328xi 4 cyl or 528xi 4 cyl).
At the time, it didn't make sense to take the depreciation hit and trade in my (then) year old 2010 Acura TSX Tech with 17K miles and take out a loan on a 2007 X3 (with minimal options) with 46,000 miles. I was also about to close on my house, so I wouldn't (according to the bank) have been able to make the extra payment.

In any case, as far as I'm aware, the extended warranty from BMW alone costs and arm. So I'd still venture to say they won't back down much, if at all, from that internet price.

It's actually not bad in the snow, my life has just changed since I bought it and we are thinking something like the new CX-5 will meet our needs better.
I am hoping the depreciation slows this next year and maybe I can trade it for about the same price in 4 or 5 months. Unfortunately, MA offers a tax benefit for traded in vehicles that reduces the sales tax, and because I didn't pay sales tax on this car in the first place (lived in NH at the time) it amounts to a substantial discount on a $30k new car.
I actually have the original window sticker for this car (though I was not the first owner) and it was just under $50k new. Really sucks that used car values were so high 6 months ago but seem to have taken a hit.
Wife won't sign off on 2 cars she can't drive (Prelude's not going anywhere anytime soon).

2005 GMC Yukon XL Denali

Denalis only come loaded, but this one has all 4 options: Nav, rear DVD, rear heated buckets and moonroof.
All maintenance is up to date, tires are probably 60%, and interior and exterior are pristine.
It had a full detail in December, and is about due for another to get it sold.
Location is Brunswick, Georgia, on I-95 halfway between Savannah and Jacksonville, Florida, and would be traded in one of those places. This is rural south Georgia, so there's always a market for big trucks and SUVs, despite th $3.50 gas we have.
I've had a highline euro dealer offer me $10-11,000 in trade for it sight unseen, which strikes me as very fair.
This screams retail road to me, so what do the experts think.
For some reason, this has caught my eye, despite the no sale green:

2007 530xiT, Dark Emerald Green over tan
Auto, Premium (?) but I don't think sport pack
57,000 miles, one owner out of Hilton Head, SC
Asking price is $25,950 at either the Honda or Mercedes dealer in Hilton Head.
The same car is on autotrader by the former owner at $24,500, but I'm thinking they got less than that one trade.
The no sale green is my least favorite color, but find another one, aside from the 2010 535xiT in Atlanta posted over on CCBA the other day for twice the money.
Thoughts on this are appreciated too.
They probably got around $20k on trade for the bimmer. The few that have gone through auction have gotten $21k. $23k should get the deal done unless they buried themselves in it.
Me? Well, if your state gives tax credit on trade-ins, I'd be looking to get it all done at the one dealer. Start them at $11k and the Denali and let them bully me to $13k max.

I like the size of the Xterra and the off road ability but I hate the roof rack.
Well the miles are an absolute killer. No wagons with those miles have crossed the block this past month. You are also in Minnesota with RWD. So that puts us in "guessing" territory. And I'm guessing $15-$16k.
Word of advice you didn't ask for ... don't trade to a lower payment in exchange for higher fuel bill.

Thanks for the help. The numbers are better than I thought they'd be on both accounts. I think South Carolina has a sales tax credit on trades, I know Georgia does, so it will save a bunch of money on taxes to go that route.
I almsot hate to buy the first thing I see since the hunt is half the fun of a new car, but a 5er wagon is a rare bird indeed, so the search may be short.
Decent and $10k don't necessarily go hand-in-hand, especially when you are talking about something bigger. You are absolutely right about not knowing what you'd get with another used car. It really depends on what you are looking at ... but most $10k minivans or SUVs would be dogs, especially compared to an '08 bimmer. You have to decide what you could live with.

2011 Hyundai Elantra Limited (no nav)
Mileage: 17500
Location: St Louis, MO
Accessories: none
Condition: Excellent/high range of very good
Color: Indigo Blue Pearl/Gray
Tires: Original Tires, nice tread
Brakes: excellent
Services: 1000, 7500, 15000K services completed.

No accidents or hail damage. Some paint chips in front from winter salt/dirt laydowns. One three inch buffeable scratch on A-pillar
Have been offered 17500 from the Hyundai dealership, and around 16600-16800 from a BMW dealership.
Given the relatively low mileage, the current demand for Elantras (a GLS with 18K miles being sold on the lot for 18900???) is 17500 a good price or should it go for a little bit more?
Any assistance provided is greatly appreciated.

Please share your purchase experience?
Would you buy M35 rental... specially it requires premium gas... and you can't trust all the rental customers to put more expensive premium gas... probably most used regular gas... would this low grade caused some damage to the engine??
Also, I have noticed, these sit for long time on the dealer lot... what do you think the cause of it??
