...... The guy's at Classic were talking about it ..

They were saying that JB's market penetration had dropped 7%, and was wondering how they showed more vehicles being sold, and less market .....hmmmm.

They had a problem with that in 99, with Lexus.

....... I'm thinkin' .. a real good detailer could clean that puppy dog up, and make it look kinda new ...

It's got no miles, and it has some extra stuff, it's a coupe, no help there --- But, new tires.. and new "eyes", would work wonders.

A dealer would probably look at for around $1,500/$2,000, but properly cleaned and such, this would make a nice retail unit.

Clean and sweep -- make it look like a 99, and you can throw it in the Washington Post for let's say..$4,500 and let some Senator come by, and beat you silly to $3,4/$3,600/$3,800 ...

    Good luck ...

I'm with Terry on the Value of the BMW.

I'd be curious as to know what color combo it is.

If its' Silver/Black I could see $30K being fair, if its' Green/Black, shoot for 28K..

98 Acura CL 3.0 Coupe WHITE (Leather Spoiler) 23,000 miles EC

Bill/Terry please help on this one :-)

I am not sure whether it is Premium or not

Please let me know what in it with & without Premium Trim ??? THANKS!!

How come Resale of Hondas is better than the competing Toyota cars? They both are quite good but Honda seem to be getting atleast $1000-1500 more when it comes to resale after 2-3 years with other things being the same? Is it because of Toyota fleet sales? As they both are known for quality construction & bulletproof relibility.

Bill/Terry What is your take on this? 97-2001 Camry in 4 cyl form was atleast $700 more than the Accord Lx(diff of new invoice) So the resale difference gets wider.
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
Well, that's kinda silly. Wouldn't it get ruined in the rain? :-)
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
OK.. the Acura withthe Spoiler made out of Leather... (Dave's right.. the rain is probably going to ruin that leather spoiler but I digress..)

I assume white with that tan leather.,.. Has it got a roof? Probably does. I think all of those are Premiums IIRC. I'm thinkign $14,500+++ wholesale all day long.. I could see it do $15K but that is to the proverbial round rock that orbits the Earth.

So what can ya buy it for?

And are you charging these people a consulting fee? :)) If so, me an Terry need a cut.. I can always send you a mailing address.. LOL

As far as Hondas.. who knows. But they are "Hotter" in the mrket and right now they're "Cool".

Shoot. a Jaguar XJ8 is a better car reliabilitywise than a BMW 7-series, but it has worse resale..

You're asking ME to figure the market out? :)) It is what it is.

    Bill
Who'd spend the $16K or so on a used Jag.

    Terry, or Bill:

Well, I traded in the Rover for the '00--BMW 528iT (Sweet Car! & it's like brand new!? The owner must have been one of those people who own like 5 BMW's or Mercedes at a time).

Anyway, being a moron, at least on that day, when the salesman gave me the 2 Odometer Disclosure statements to sign (one for my trade in, one for the BMW), I somehow checked off the boxes #1 certifying that "the OD reading stated is in excess of it's mechanical limits". (Fortunately, on the Title re-assignments, I didn't make that mistake).

What are the ramifications of this??? Will this show up on a carfax report someday when I go to sell the BMW? Or do they just go by the titles? I called the salesman today & left a message, but no answer yet.

    Thanks once again, from Massachusetts!

..... Oh No ...! Quick .. call the DMV, this will reflect on your credit ... your Gas prices will go up.. You won't get your Sunday paper on time ....

Just kidding !.. they will just re-sign the title with odo at the title bureau -- Hey, I have done it myself, in a fit of being super Bz at the close of a deal .... DUH..!

    ...... Leather spoiler ...? Ooooh, a S. Miami vehicle ...
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... That's the right color and miles on the Volvo -- If, it's nice and clean, new tires ..and you can find the 3rd seat over the McDonalds bags -- this is a vehicle that's worth the Ultra high $16's on trade, maybe a "tinge" more .. if it's Xtra nice

The dealer won't have this on his lot for 3 days, they sell fast.

The "Fat Daddy" of Toyota ..huh..? ..It's the best color, miles are Ok. I like these and so do a lot of folks --- If it's "new" .. I'm thinkin' around $33ish ...(real money) ...

If you don't mind me asking ... these are a nice Garage fillers .. what are you buying instead..?

    Terry.
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
Leather spoiler :-) LOL! No it is not!!!!!

Yes, the Acura has roof/tan leather etc. Actually the local Honda dealer shoots me an e-mail whenever he gets nice used car! & my friend circle happens to be a big one!! There is *always* somebody looking for a nice used car & "fears" to go to the dealership alone! (First time big purchase i.e. $15,000+ etc)

BTW: Do let me know your address!! :-)

Two days ago a friend got 2000 Camry LE with 17,000 miles for $13,500 + ttl (Burgundy ext, beige int) I can not find similar Accord & even if I find one I do not think I can get a 2000 with 17K miles LX for this price.
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
    $16,000 +200/300 may be!

BTW: Bill/Terry How much you think this Acura 3.0 will hold after say 2/3 more years ? Give the mileage around 40-45K (it is 23K right now)

    Around $10,000 may be ?

When I was visiting home (from MA, live in IA; don't ask) last week, I saw a black '00 528iT driving by a lot on DW Highway in Nashua. This wouldn't be the one you bought, would it?

The car is a friend's, and he plans to drive it until it dies. I just wanted to know the value, because I have gotten conflicting information from a couple different sources online. But do tell me one thing. New "eyes"? What does that refer to? Thanks for your help. :)
  • jeffnjmejeffnjme Member Posts: 36
I really appreciate the price info for the Volvo and Sequoia. No McDonald's bag, so I know where the third seat is. You are correct they are nice Garage Fillers. I like both a lot.

I will probably only get rid of the Volvo but who knows. As for what we are getting--I just did overseas (TDS) delivery on a 2002 Volvo S60T5(I took the trip alone but the car is my wife's). Picked it up in Sweden on 12/12 and the car should be in San Diego by the end of the month. this is truly a great program! I liked the program so much that it made me think maybe I should sell the redwood too and do it again--maybe another V70 (T5 this time), or an S80 or maybe another S60--oh if only my last name was Gates or Forbes.

    Thanks Again

  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
I should have clarified. The lot I referred to was a dealer...he had the car for sale. I guess it wasn't the one you ended up buying. :-)

If you want a GREAT drive, hit Rte. 1A between Hampton and Portsmouth, right along the coast. From Portsmouth, catch Rt. 11 and head up to the mountains. Make a day of it; you'll be glad you did. :-) Better yet, START your trip in the mountains and work your way back down to Portsmouth, to a great Irish pub called Molly Malone's; it's right downtown. A perfect meal to end the perfect drive.

OK. That's it. I'm moving back east. :-)

Guys, a buddy of mine recently bought a late model MB C class that was very clean except the previous owner was a smoker. I was in the car over the weekend and while he said it is getting better, still noticeable smell. He has tried a few spray type odor killers, etc, and cleaned the leather seats, dash, etc.

I figure you guys in the business run into this all of the time so - how do you get the smell out? Also, where is it 'staying' - the carpet or the headliner?

    Thanks

........ < As I sit here smoking a marlboro..l.o.l.> ... Now a days, it's easy to get the smoke out. A real good detail shop use's an machine called an Extractor, I have bought all kinds of vehicle's with the Smoke Monster ...

These Extractors does all the carpeting, seats, vents, kick panels... the whole Gig. -- and they work.. my own detail departments have em'.

    That's a very good discussion .. Honda/Toyota ...

On the overall, I think they are just about even on the wholesale side.

What I mean by that is, I constantly see Corolla's, Camry's go right out of the book -- I know Bill see's the same thing.

Here's a perfect example, last week I was with a Toyota dealer at the auction and he.. and 10 others (as usual) were bidding them stupid.

Before you read all this ----- Close your eye's and tell me what you think this vehicle might be worth ..... A 97 V6 Camry LE, white in color, tan cloth, spoiler, cassette, keyless, pw, pl, cruise.. Stop. -- no power seat, no slider, no Cd, no wheels ... a nice looking vehicle all and all, with 64Klicks, needs tires in 6/7,000 miles and the brakes are starting to whistle..... what would you think ..?

I have stood in a lot of lanes, and watched a bunch of iron pass my eye's ...

Perhaps on the overall, Honda has a little more "buck" going for it, But along with, there is a bunch more Toyota's sold and more in the market... but, you will never convince a Toyota dealer of that, especially for what they pay for em'...l..o..l...

    What's your thinkin' Bill ..?

    Terry.

By the way ... Eighty six hundred dollars.. plus the fee's..

    Good question ... Sobers.

    Marlboros eh?

Wait. I know what we need to do with this MB.

The owner of it needs to start smoking so the smell wont bug him! :))

Try a couple of sliced open raw potatoes (PLACED ON A PLATE NOT THE LEATHER!) in the backseat..

THANKS AGAIN to both of you--you two are definitely the BEST!!! Terry my advice go to Sweden skip the auctions, skip the TDS program (even though it is great for us ameatuers--you have plenty of cars), just enjoy the Blondes.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Double-Whoops!

OK.. It has like less miles than it should.

It is an Omm Honda Omm and its an EX.. And its' Silver. This assumes that the car wouldnt recognize the inside of a Body Shop and that the interior doesnt look like it was 52,000 miles put on by a 17-year-old kid who chainsmoked :)

Beats a Brown Kia 5-speed any day of the week!
I think its a $7,500+ Wholesale car so you pop it in the paper for $9,950/bo and grab $9K

Terry? You like 94-97 Accords more than I do.. whatcha think?

Oh, and John, you can come out of your room now.

Thanks for the advice on the 1990 Corolla! I sold it for $2,000 on the 2nd day with a sign in the window. Never even got around to putting an ad in the paper. I guess I could have gotten more if I had really worked it, but this is good enough. Edmunds really underrates the value of these cars, IMO. I notice local dealers are asking $3995 for ones with 185,000 miles on them -- of course, I imagine they don't usually get that for them, but still.
  • jeffnjmejeffnjme Member Posts: 36
Well to answer your question it was a very impromptu decision. Had no plan to buy a car, but had a rental S60 for a month and my wife really liked so we decided to buy one. Given that it was October and the dealer was pushing 2001s and we wanted a 2002, TDS was the best option. Given the car via TDS was about 1K below invoice and I got $1600 travel credit from Volvo which all but paid for my week Jaunt it was a no brainer.

Now for Sweden in the winter, the weather was not perfect but living in San Diego for the last 11 years I have pretty much perfect weather all year--so the winter weather was a nice switch. Christmas time and 70 degrees just doesn't seem festive for this east coast boy--it was actually really nice. I got to see the St. Lucia festival, do some shopping and the museums look the same regardless of the time of year.
I would have liked some more daylight but beggars can not be too choosy.

Both you and Terry deserve the kudos
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... You are all quite welcome ... :)

Jeffnjme ... You will love that S60, the Volvo's are in my top 3 list ..always.

I have had a few of the S80's and loved em'.

Now, if I can find a way to get to SveeeDen and "pretend" I'm lookin' for cars, I would be set to go ...l.o.l...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... It's still the right color and all --- and the miles are super right ..... BUT -- I need .. DOORS, is it a coupe, is it a 4dr, a wagon.. --- a California stretch limo ?... uhgggg.

Ok slick ... if it's a EX Accord coupe it's worth "in and around " ..$8 ish ...

    If it's a "La' 4 door" ... it's in that $9ish figure --- that's if it's "Jam up"..! -- Ya know, like puuurrrfect..! .. needs -0-

    On the retail end, a 4dr... $10,900.

    Terry.
  • vocusvocus Member Posts: 7,777
I know I would be taking that MB back to the dealer (if it came from a dealer) and asking them to clean it up. If not, go to a car detail shop. I am sure they have one of those machines that will "suck" the smell out.

Someone told me that tobacco enhances the smell of leather. He said smoking in a car with leather won't make it stink. I told him he was full of crap. It made my cloth-lined car stink. I won't be smoking in my leather-lined Jetta to find out if it makes it stink or not! :)
  • rbrenton88rbrenton88 Member Posts: 186
Vocus, after conducting my own extensive trail, I can assure you that the car will still stink with or without leather seats.

Interestingly though, if you don't smoke in the car for a few days, the leather smell will tend to rise up and override the smoke stench.
  • soberssobers Member Posts: 496
About Honda/Toyota. I see a lot of Camry/Corollas on the local Hertz/Avis lot which are bought throuh corporate deals (of cours ethru delaers) but a corporate deal anyyay. There are a few Accords (NO Civic) on the lot but these are sold by the local Honda dealer at a locally negotiated price (sort of [program cars) I guess fleet/rental sales could be a factor when dealing with short term resale values.

What ammuses me is that local dealer sold a 1998 Accord EX V6 Green with 40K miles for 16200 + fees!!! 99 Accord Lx Green with 24,000 miles for 14,500+ fees & at the same time 99 4-cyl Gold Camry with 18,000 miles (roof, abs, power seats) for $13,800 + fees!
