I would like to know if you can give me approx trade-in/retail value of it in it's current condition.... this is so I don't get totally screwed if i trade it in...

2000 Honda Prelude.... 20900 miles... all the standard equipment (moon-roof, power windows, power locks, etc)... Automatic trans... VG condition with minor paint chips from everyday driving...

Guy stomed out earlier after we couldn't give him $2,000 for his 1986 Toyota 4 Runner with 194,000 miles. All four fenders had holes rusted through and there was a line of rust underneath the hood and the tailgate was shot with rust.

Any buyers out there for $2,000??? :)

Saw a '98 Vanden Plas w/ 39k Dealer asking 33.9 it is select edition. What value would you guys put on it. It is blue/tan interior.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Oooooh, blue and tan..! (Bill will know the correct color swatch. .l.o.l..) --- and it's a 98 with low miles..

And he is asking High money ....wooooof..!

I'm thinkin' it's a puuurffect vehicle ... not a ding, not a scratch, service done all the way through Jag, nonsmoker, brand new Cont's all the way around ---- cleaner than the board of health & twice as sanitary .. blah, blah, blah.

He can't have more than $27 in it if he fell down and hit his head, maybe $29ish on the retail end -- but, he can ask anything he want' s... that doesn't mean he will get even close..

    Hey Bill ---- !!!

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... The miles are right, Auto, big help there -- ( what color and what part of the country are you from..?)

Let's assume it's silver, and just some little scratches and a baby ding here and 1 small one over there.

Overall it's a nice vehicle, probably do the high $15's at the block. On the retail side, hang it in the paper for $17,980 and you should see the mid $17's...

    I hope this helps...

I'll stick to what I know.. Let Terry at the Prelude :)

93 300SE: I could see that sucker doing $12K across the block, but I'd never put that in it (Teal Green? That bright Teal? Oh dear. Houston, we have a problem.)

I think $14,900 it and mention that its' a 1-owner (If it is). But take $13,500 for it.

98 VDP: Ahh, that color combination would be Sapphire Blue Metallic with Ivory or Oatmeal Leather. (Oatmeal=Putty color, Ivory=white).

Where's it at? Has it got harmon/kardon and butt-warmers/traction?

Yup. $29K oughta buy that sucker, but figure they got $27K in it, then ya got 995 (now) for the Select Edition (Worth it for that)..
$30K.. 30,500.. past that you gettin silly.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Sapphire is a VERY good color for those.

Weird. If I brought home a Burgandy or Blue MB or BMW or Audi A6/8 I'd need my head examined.

Meanwhile, great colors for the Jags.

    Bill
  • rbrenton88rbrenton88 Member Posts: 186
If you brought home a Burgandy e430, I'd be over tomorrow to pick it up. I happen to appreciate such a rarity in a sea of silver and black around here.
  • akanglakangl Member Posts: 3,282
Was that "beautiful" 4Runner 4WD? If so, tell him to send it to Alaska.......people up here will beat each other silly to get it for $4000.
  • carleton1carleton1 Member Posts: 560
Buyer must pay sales tax on the selling price of the vehicle less value of trade (if any)in Wyoming at 5 % and Utah at a rate between 6.0 % and 6.6 % depending upon the county where it is registered. No difference in sales tax for private or dealer transaction.
  • landru2landru2 Member Posts: 638
I didn't realize that tax was paid on private sales in some states. That sure would take away some of the advantage of buying privately.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    So YOURE the one, eh?

    lol :)
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Well.

My partner just snagged a MINT, Cherry, SUPER DUPER "Baby Doll" to quote Terry 88 or 89 4runner.

179k but looks like 79K. V6, 4WD, EVerything works, even the cruise, knee deep, no paintwork.. ad nauseum.

I think he paid 1900 across the block.

Tell that to your customer, especially as this is in Toyota-Nutto FL.

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Ooooooh, hey run that through Butler ... I'm thinkin, aaah..$2,9/$3,1/$3,300 maybe more, if it's a Puff.

    Terry.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883

Dealer wants $25,000 for a red 2000 2.3. 14.5k miles with leather premium sound and cd.Located in northern Ky.

From what I see it seems a little high, but he won't move.

    What do you guys think.

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Nota bad price really.

I mean, no miles.. if itsgot all the toys as they say.. could do an easy $23K across the block and then some..

    Bill
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... I agree with Bill ... it's got no miles and it's toyed. I see a lot of Kentucky dealers at the auctions, and as a rule they will pay top dollar for nice cars --- and from what you are telling us .. it's a "baby doll".

    So .. make a decision.

What's the deal here, or have SAABs really gotten this cheap?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=600544513

  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    .... Good morning.

Well I can't speak for that particular one, but as a rule, Saab's are quirky vehicles. Mechanically as well as the "looks".

I do see enough of these at the auctions to know that these things drop their values like "bad habits" . ..and are hard to sell because it's a small, small market that they appeal to.

Like Bill said before, the only way to drive one is to lease it -- that way, you don't get your brains beat in, when you trade.

    Terry.

Guys - we recently leased a 9-5 Wagon for my wife. She has some back issues that required switching from an SUV to a sedan-type and she loved the Saab and something about the seats helped her back immensely . . .So, we leased this guy and I was shocked at the discounting that went on with little/no prompting. Here are the numbers:

2001 9-5 Wagon - loaded (leather, cd, heated/vent seats, etc) for MSRP of $41,200 or so

Saab offeres significant rebates and discounts for leasing, etc. so the final price after their multiple discounts was $31,627. Roughly 24% discount with NO haggling. Add to this generous finance terms, etc and it is easy to see why the used market in Saabs gets crushed (that and the 'quirky' thing)!

  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
I know they're quirky in all respects, and I knew they dropped like stones, value-wise, but I thought that price was cheap, even so. It would seem to be a lot of car for the money...would you agree?
  • tdweeklytdweekly Member Posts: 2
    it's Black w/ Grey-Black interior....

    I'm from the Mid-west.... (wisconsin)...

hasn't seen much snow yet!!! :)

    thanks for the help!!!!
  • bretfrazbretfraz Member Posts: 2,021
That 9-3 is pretty damn sharp. Its got a few SAAB goodies like the cell phone mount and the center armrest (both dealer-installed accessories). It's got heated seats too. If you can live with the cloth and the lack of a roof, it looks great to me. I wonder where the car is from originally; a CarFax will prolly reveal.

Got an idea of what the reserve is?
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
No idea what the reserve is, but I'd be willing to bet it's somewhere near the Buy It Now amount. I'd actually prefer cloth, and the lack of a roof is neither here nor there to me. If I were in the market...
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... Your welcome..! and you should do quite well with that Prelude in the land of the "Fat Daddy Packers"

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Oh Yeah, I agree. If you can find a 1/2/3 yr old one, clean with little bitty klicks and can get it for a few $$ over wholesale or so, I feel it's a great buy.

I think it's a lot like R Rovers, pay the moon new. Try to trade em' in 2 years, but first call 911, because you may need the ol' Fribulator after you get the trade #'s ....l.o.l..

Yep, you defintinatly got the right idea.

a friend-o-mine a few months ago bought a 98 900SE (turbo, roof, leather, dual power heated seats, auto temp, full trip computer) w/48k for $12k at a local dealer. This car was $31995 msrp new. I'd never buy a new Saab, but used they're a lotta car for the $$.
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
Bill it has all the toys HK, HS and TC. The price on it I gave originally was wrong it is priced at 31.9k with the cert. you think 29k still buys this puppy. BTW I love jags my dream car is a XJR how much should I pay for a 99 XJR with 25-35k miles. Jags aren't just for old folks I'm 25 and adore them. My wife likes the s-type. They have 2 4.0's one is a 2000 the other 2001 one silver the other black not sure on miles neither one has nav. What are possible prices on these. Both select editions.
  • rbrenton88rbrenton88 Member Posts: 186
    How about this one:

'98 E430 Sport - 36k miles, white w/ grey insides, all options plus the ortho seats, in NJ

Apparently covered by bumper-to-bumper up to 100k miles, though I don't know the details.

    Asking price is $37k. Fair?

Also, have you been seeing similar 98's or 99's across the block recently? If so, what prices?

    -RB
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... E Class, one of my favorites. And it has only 36K babied miles --- ooooh sounds nice, right color and all the "Whiz bangs".

These are wonderful vehicles, I have had a few and loved em'. Let's just say this one is -- all there and it's a baby doll.

Across the block it would do $32/$33ish if it's that nice and needs .... - 0 -

$37 is fair ..! But, start him up at $35 and see what happens ... you don't ask, you don't get. :)

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Another Jagman ..huh..? -- nice clean 4.0's are all over and these make great vehicles for the used market.

Clean, 18/20/22k 2000's are rolling through at that $31ish figure maybe a little more depending on the color. I love that plat and taupe int (whatever).. and a clean 10k 2001 with all the stuff is doing "around' that $37ish figure

Guys - just sold my Previa van to a guy out of state. He sends the money and I fax him a receipt that state the sale date, miles, etc, and that the sale is "as is with no warranty given or implied". He hand writes in "as long as everything I have been told is true" and counter signs. Is this no big deal or should I insist he remove the language.

could you give me one last update on Toyota Sienna XLE, 2001, white, taupe leather, power door, fancy mirror, 12k miles, perfect inside and out, and 4 oil changes by the dealer. Trading for an 02 Yukon SLT @ $36313 with a firm offer of $29997 including the rebate (best I can tell this is 25bucks under invoice). All we're haggling is the price of my trade. They started at 17k this morning and late this evening they bumped it to 18.5k. They'll do some more I think, but I thought these silly vans were doing 22-23k at auction. Yes? No? Depends? I realize the car market is fluid and probably changes day to day. Give me a number to aim for. I'm out here in far west Texas where minivans a big yawn for most.

Just one little comment: "If it isn't in writing it didn't happen".

If the buyer doesn't have your assurances in writing then he has no recourse against you, unless you give him one.

Sounds to me like he wants a refund policy. Tell him you're not Walmart. I wouldn't accept his little note.

    Bill:

Thanks for the input a few days ago on the XJ6. I'm going to offer $16,500 and see what happens.

    Glad to help!

Good luck with it. Make sure the power steering column tilt motor works, and, up north, the trunk lock cylinder.

    Well..

Its' Burgandy, Its' a Stick, It has CLoth, it has no sunroof...

$12,500 is a good price for it, but it isnt as cheap as you think.

I bet I could duplicate that car for $10,500-11K across the block.

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    $29K Better buy it!

XJRs.. whew... Tough puppies to find. I'm STILL Looking for a nice Sapphire Blue/Carnival red 98 for a customer.

99s with low miles can break the bank. I remember seein one like 6 weeks ago pull 35K across the block. Silver/Black, 25K, Super nice.

But low 30s for a minter.

    And, BTW, I just turned 27 :)

And Terry hit the 4.0s on the money.

    Color is crucial on them.

I think that Sienna would do just under $20K to MAYBE $20K at a sale.

The Previa? Tell him its' AS-IS, if he'd like, you'd be happy to return his check.

The extended warranty on my '97 EB Explorer (51k, AWD V8, black, all options ex. load leveling, new Michelins, very good condition overall, 1 owner) is expiring soon and I'd like to get an estimate of how much I'll have to pay someone to take it away (dealer trade and private sale) here in southwestern CT.

This truck has had more than its fair share of mechanical trouble, currently on engine #3 (cracked piston and bad drive shaft), but the trucks been ok for a few months now. What kind of $ impact will the engine trouble have on trade?

    Thanks for the input!
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
I can also buy 01 S40s.. loaded.. for under $18K....

    :))

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    ...currently on engine #3...

    JEEE-ZUS! Wow!

    =O

Well... if its now running well, the engine replacement shouldnt hurt its value.

I figure it for about $10K give or take $500. So figure $12,900/bo in the paper and well.. go from there!

    Hope this helps,

    Bill
  • lancerfixerlancerfixer Member Posts: 1,284
Well, any S40 I'd get would have to be sunroof-less...headroom issues, same as the S90. (I don't get it either. I can't drive an S90 without having to put the driver's seat in full 'pimp daddy' mode.) Besides, $10,500 for a Saab<$18,000 for an S40, and I get my beloved manual transmission, to boot. :-)

Hi. Was wondering what the trade in value would be on my Tahoe. It is the LS with every option except sunroof and leather, very clean and maintenance has been maintained. I live in Missouri and it has close to 97,000 miles. Thanks for your help.
