Can anyone tell me what I should be trying to sell my wife's 2001 RAV4. It is a 4x2 with about 18K miles. It's about 16 months old. I was going to trade it in, but the dealer is trying to gouge us... It comes with the Quick Order package, power windows, locks, A/C, CD and Cassette...

    Thanks for any help.

What is trade value in Sarasota, FL for a 2000 Chevy Blazer LT,
4-door, 2wd, auto, roof rack, CD, power drivers seat, 30K miles, pewter color, garage kept, well cared for!! Thanks for the info on the 1997 Eclipse GS-T. It has NOT been modified or "tinkered" with and so far I have had one dealer offer of $7,200 and another at $7,500. I was hoping to get closer to $8,200 - $8,500 since that's what Edmunds, Kbb, Autoweek, etc....says it's worth. Maybe I should try selling it to a private party??

    Hello Bill,

I would like your advise on trading my dad's Honda Accord.
It has approx. 108k miles (all highway miles).
I live in New York and we are the first, original owners of the vehicle. The exterior color is gold. The vehicle is in good condition. The paint job is original and untouched. We are going to purchase a new car in March of 2002.

Anyway, the vehicle has basic standard features. So what do you think is the trade-in value of the vehicle?

Also do you suggest on selling the vehicle ourselves?

Thank You Very Much For Any Consideration!

    Sincerely Yours
    Mr.NEWYORKER

I am currently trying to sell my 1999 Integra GSR. It has the rare Super-Sonic Blue Pearl factory paint (B90-P) and is in excellent condition with 29,000 miles. I baby this car totally, keep it covered (outside) and I have all detailed maintenance records/receipts. I have some modifications to it. The car has never been in an accident, and the body itself has not been modified. As I now need a bigger car, what kind of trade-in figures would I be looking at with the modifications (lowering springs/gas struts, header, exhaust, 17" rims)? If I were to bring it back to stock (leaving only the 17" rims), would the trade-in figures be better? Or would I be better off selling it myself? I was looking at around $15,000 for a trade, or $18,000 obo if selling myself.

I'm looking at trading it in for a new car. It's a stick shift with 61k miles. With a couple of exceptions, the car still looks and drives nice. It has a scrape on the front bumper and the muffler/exhaust pipe needs to be replaced. Do you guys suggest fixing the exhaust first and what do you think is a fair trade in? I live in Fairfield, CT.

Thanks to anyone who can help.

Sorry, I should know better than to forget the miles. It just hit 140,000.

Between the Max and the Altima I like the Maxima. The Altima looks great, drives great, and had plenty of power even with the 2.5L but that darn interior. Nissan should be ashamed.

What sort of trade-in value can be expected for a 99 Accord V6-EX coupe with rear spoiler? 24,100 miles, dark green, good condition. Thanks in advance.

    Hello Bill,
I'm looking to trade my car in within the next week. Toyota Corolla 4dr DX Pearl Blue, it has 65,000 miles (mostly highway miles)spoiler on the back,no rust, no dents,a few light key marks that I was told that crayons will cover. I consider it to rate in good condition. I'll Wash it, wax change the oil and present it to the dealer. I'm located in North Jersey. Your expert advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank You......

Was out to dinner with friends and they want to sell their toy. I had no idea what to tell them, but told them I'd ask here. Here's what he told me: 1985 1/2(?) Porsche 911E, bright red, 5-speed, A/C, removable hard top(?), just turned 100k. They bought it new and its never been in the bad weather. Car is beautiful, waxed regularly, always in the garage, newish tires, I can't see that it needs anything. Northern Ohio area, he's thinking of asking $4,500ish. Is this high, low, or fair? Thanks as always.

I was considering trading a Forest Green 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 extended cab SLT 4x4 LB (manual 5-speed transmission). It has most options (CD/radio with infinity sound, power locks/windows, sliding rear window, bed liner, running boards, hood shield, alloy wheels). It has less than 60,000 miles, 80% on the tires, 75% on brakes, everything runs well and looks good. I also put it through Ziebart for additional rust protection. Great but for one problem -- when it was just over 12 months old, it sustained $7,500 in hail damage. It was repaired by a very good body shop and at 18 months (in my opinion) actually looked better than when I drove it new off the dealers lot.

I knew at the time that this would affect my trade-in value (as it is over the $3,000 disclosure limit required in the State of Iowa) but am surprised by how much. Although I realize the dealer's position -- he has to convince an interested customer that it was hail and not frame damage -- but this is a 7-year old truck with 5 1/2-year old skin.

Obviously, I need to pursue selling this privately, but can you please give me your thoughts on what to expect as a fair price?

    Thanks.

  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Umm.. rat to begin with?

    $4,500 wholesale....

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmm.. V6? 5-speed?

Still, its worth more than $8K, and if $10K was "Real $$" you need to grab it ASAP!

Its about a $9,000 unit if its in nice shape.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
I think I gave ya close to all the $$...

Figure it for $30Kish across the block.. $31,500 cost after transport, recon, detail, plus $595 for the warranty.. theyre gonna want to make at least $2,500 on it.. I mean.. $35K has to be doable...

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Yeah.. I know how you feel :(

Next car you think of buying.. ask us, we'll let ya know which has strong resale and which doesnt.

In a year, a Mercedes E320 would have cost just as much in dollar amounts!

    A CLK320 LESS!

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Gimnme a little more info on the bodywork...

Without it, you have a $11,500ish car, but I'd like some more info on its history. Could be $9,500.. could be $11K...

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
If its just perfect.. it could easily do $8K across the block.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Tough car to hit...

But, figure it could do $21Kish wholesale, so dont take much less than $23,500ish.

Looking to buy it? What do they want?

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
You need to put it in the paper for $2,900/bo and take $2,500 as its a $1,000-1,500 wholesale car...

    Sell this one privately.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    OK..

    $16,500-17Kish if its a Base

    $17,000-17,500 for an L..

    Hope this helps!

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Ah-HA!

Its a 2WD! :) (Since youre just 3 hours down the road from me that makes sense!)

    I'd hit it between $14,500-15K.

    The Eclipse?

$7,500 is about the number... MAYBE $8K to the right buyer, but it'd have to be just as new.

Private sale? If you cant get $9,500 for it dont let it go!

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmm..

Sell this one privately. $2,500 is what you should get for it.

MAYBE $1,000 on a push if its clean and super nice and not rusted, but reality is $600-750.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
$15,000 trade? I cant see it. If it is just perfect, $13,500-14K.

    Retail? $16,950/bo and grab $16,500.

Now. The mods help on a private sale and HURT a wholesale deal.

See where I am going here?

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Yes.

Spend the $200 on the muffler. Get a cheap job at Midas or something.

Now, is it a 2-door or a 4-door? Since its a DX< does it have AC?

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
OK, you can come out of your room now. :D

$2,500 or so is wholesale, so ask $4,750 and shoot to get $4K out of it.

Maxima is a nicer car IMO...

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
$14,500-15Kish is where youre gonna be as a trade.

Sounds like a beauty.. NO miles too, which helps.

$17,650 in the paper, and grab $17K.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hello!

(Im from NJ too.. Exit 2 off the PIP) haha..

OK, Youre gonna be around $4,500-5K if its as nice as ya say.

    WHAT?

NINETEEN EIGHTY FIVE PORSCHE 911 FOR FOUR THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS?

I'll buy it! For DOUBLE that!

But there's no such thing as an 85 911E.. Is it a Carrera? (It should be) And it sounds like a Targa.

If it is an 85 911 Targa with 100K and all records and super clean.. he needs to ask closer to $15,000 for it.

    But I want more info.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Its about a $10-12K wholesale+++++ car. But I could see it doing $13K at auction.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    The hail hurts it...

Even so, its about a $8,000 wholesale truck I think, so ask $10,950 and take $10K..

What were you figuring it for?

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
At best, a $2,500 wholesale piece.

Still, friends dont let friends drive 100+K mile Mitsubishis.

Doubtful. I'll betcha anything it's a 944 - there was a 1985.5 model 944. If that's the case, 4500 is pushing it even private party.

I think you're going to be in the $5,000ish range.. maybe $5,300.

    Great advice. Thanks.

Funny you asked what I was figuring it for. I had an interested party who offered me $9,000 (ironically, it's the gentleman who I'm buying the new truck from). I told him this morning that I was looking for $10,500, but will settle for $9,750. I feel even better about this after reading your comments.

    Thanks again.

Thanks for the info. This place has been busy lately. It's a trade-in, not an auction purchase. All service records, serviced there, guy buying a new Lexus, probably a 430. I spoke to the internet manager yesterday, and he said he could do "around $35 something" so we'll have to nail down the final amount when I go to see the car Saturday, but it looks like I'm already close. Thanks a lot for your help.

    Hi Bill:

Just happened upon this site. Am looking to trade in the above-referenced next month. Blue, 5-speed, rear spoiler, 37,000 miles, great condition. It has a four-inch scratch on the lower passenger-side door. I was told by the repair shop that if I am trading in the car they would not recommend repairs be done because paint work will show. What would trade in value be in Dallas-FW metroplex?
  • 20992099 Member Posts: 63
I will get more info from the guy about the Porsche. Even though I used to be in the used car business years ago, I know nothing about these (obviously). I will quietly go to my room until I get more information (may not see him until the week-end). Something is obviously wrong here as both Bill and Shifty (over in classic board) have stated. Thanks.

In April 2000, I leased a 2000 E.B. Expedition that will expire this April. My payoff on the lease is 22,5000. It is ia 4x2 with a sunroof, captains chairs, 6 disc, 5.4, heated seats and most other options. I am considering purchasing this one or leasing a 2003. Does anyone know whether the price is consistent with a comparable used model? Is it common for dealerships to reduce a previously negotiated price?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi Bill,

I am looking to trade in my 2001 (old) PASSAT these several days. It is V6, Tiptronic 5-spd auto. It has leather, heated front seat, sunroof, 6 CD changer, Alloy Wheels, rear sunshade. There is 14900 mi on it. I bought it in Dec 2000. It is in execellent condition (I already saw a VW dealership in central NJ and they confirmed that). What would be a reasonable trade-in price? Thanks!!
