Didn't you just buy this puppy? I seem to recall you trying real hard to move the Monte so you could get this one. What happened?

...... Any "real" options, leather ..Slider, upgrade stereo, R boards, tow pack, 6 pack dash ... any of that junk makes it worth a whole lot more ...

I try to follow any vehicles that I'm about to purchase ..and those who ask me, very closely.

Obviously, I wasn't paying attention to your post as closely as I should.

If it has a $32ish MSRP then in fact, those dealers are correct and trying hard, at a $23/$24ish figure.

This is based on me pulling all the auction sites from the East Coast on all the base LT's

So what I had failed to do correctly, was to read your post correctly. I humbly apologize ..!

I guess in my fervor to answer it correctly, I "assumed" it had more features, thats my fault. I certainly hope I didn't inconvenience you, or give you any anxiety over it.

The bottom line is -- I screwed up, and the figures that you have are current and correct, if it's a $32 and some change MSRP...

Sitting, red in the face ....

Well, it's a thought that I had. I did dump the Monte for this car a year ago but I haven't been too happy with it - specifically, unexplainable squeaks and rattles from the chassis which they have not been able to fix, and I got taken by my Dealer on a prob with the Differential. I had to pay $400 out of pocket to an independant shop to fix it.

The short version, I had this noise from my limited slip and they kept telling me it was normal and Chevy told me it was normal but yet they could not explain why a new one off the lot did not make this noise. So I found a local speed-shop and he too said it's NOT a normal noise. He removed the Torsen Rear and replaced it with a Auburn limited-Slip and guess what? No more noise. I paid him $400.

Dealer said they swapped out my gears for a new set and test drove it, heard the noise, then went back and re-swapped out for my original gears. Then he said "I can not do anything else for you" and walked away. The speed shop guy said "HUH????? they did WHAT?" GM ain't payin' to do a job twice and now those 'new" gears driven less than 5 miles can't be sold as new. He said, "they wanted to get rid of you".

I'm super pissed off at the service I've gotten. I cannot recomment Bill Heard to anyone. However, I'm not super pissed off at the car itself. More than half of my service calls were due to inept mechanics. I like the looks, I like the ride, no other coupe for this price feels the same. All I want is a quiet one like the others I test drove. So, I was thinking of selling and buying a new one, possibly ordering one. They got THIS one from a dealer 100 miles away and the car had sat for 8 months after delivery. I want to live my life, not wake up every day to go back for this squeak and knock.

If I sell it, some other buyer may not be as particular as I am. Lots of kids who buy these cars do all kinds of mods anyway.

I can understand where you are coming from. I have always wanted a VW Jetta since they were redesigned for 1999.5. Well, I finally bought one ono 11/3/01 (turbo, sunroof, tiptronic, leather, monsoon, LOADED) in white with black inside. The car is wonderful! But it keeps "growing" new rattles all the time. It just gets annoying. I was going to sell it outright, but I already have 9K miles on it and would have to take a loss. Guess I will just have to live with it for awhile.

    Hi Terry & Bill

I'm back with another Atlanta gem...

1995 Honda Accord LXA (ABS) automatic. Cashmere on Beige. Stained carpet on passenger front floorboard (large coffee mishap?) but otherwise clean interior. Exterior has light kiss on front bumper (kind of hairline crack on passenger front corner). Passenger doors painted from parking lot mishap, but work is very good.

And ONLY 51,000 Atlanta miles (had 5,000 when I got it from my great aunt 2 years ago).

Would like both retail & wholesale, please.

And if you don't get to this until tomorrow, make it 52,000 miles...

Please don't apologize at all. You and Bill do everyone here a great favor and a valuable service at no reward but considerable time to yourselves by sharing your informed views to those of us who are much less informed on these things. You have helped me a lot in deciding where to shop and how much to negotiate. Thanks again,

I'm in Wisconsin if that makes any difference.

.... Well thanks ... I'm so glad I got that Lasik surgery..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... Ok., lets see if I can track this one correctly.

    It's a 98 Lumina LS with a bunch of klicks ..

ok, lets kick the miles for a second .. it's clean, it shows like a vehicle with 40k ..?

All the tires in the world ..and the dings and the dent's are limited to a handful. Engine wise, it still runs like a top ...

IF ... it's all there, then it's going to be around the $3/$3,500ish neighborhood ..

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... It sounds like a nice vehicle, it's the right motor, it's a 4x4 -- it's even the right color --- it's not the right miles though.

This will put you in the $20ish figure ...

    Terry.

...... I still don't know why -- but those Avalons still pull big $$ ...02 XLE Avalons are stone stupid at $29ish -- go figure. Your better off in a loaded up LE Camry in the low $21's ...

Guys - where do you hit this one?

2002 Volvo S60 not AWD, silver, black inside, auto, excellent condition, 21K mis, auto, nicely equipped.

Located in Norwalk, CT area. Was purchased a few monthas ago after doing a few months as a service loaner. The lady of the house hates it.
  • vocusvocus Member Posts: 7,777
See, I am hurt now. :( Nah, just kidding. Like I said, I like the car alot. It just makes me mad because it rattles inside and my Protege didn't. I am getting everything fixed little by little though, so it's no big deal. It's just inconvenient.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
....... Huh ...? 21k and it's less than 6 months old --- gheeez, no wonder the "lady of the house hates it" -- Does she have a paper route or something ..?

    Hmmmmm, I thinkin' around $24/$25ish ..

I'm getting ready to trade in a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 Dr Limited 4WD Wagon, V6, 61K miles, Gray, Leather, Alarm, Power Sunroof, Heated Front Seats. Front two tires probably need replacing. Otherwise, car is in good shape. Could you please give me a trade in value for this type of vehicle in the North East.

    Thanks in advance.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... You didn't mention if had the 5.9 .. So I will guess it doesn't.

A little light on tires .. a little stiff in miles, I'm thinkin' the high $10's .. maybe, just maybe .. if it's super nice body wise, and the interior looks 01 then maybe the low $11's..

I'm looking to trade in my wife's 95 Ford Contour 4door GL Sedan. It has 97k miles with power options, cruise, AC. No mechanical problems. Recently replaced timing belt and water pump. Never a major accident (just scratches on the bumpers from getting too close to the ATM and other stationary objects).

Edmund's calculator says $1800 Trade-in. Is this realistic? Any comments appreciated.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ..... How are you ...?

Well it looks like you have got your money's worth out of this dude .. 120 klicks .. No hole in the roof ..?

Well, even with all the stuff .. maybe you might see a couple grand, maybe a quarter... IF .. it's all there, tires are kinda new. It's really going to depend on the 4x4 -- no click clicks..

Actually, this might be a better retail unit -- Ya know, clean it all up, make it look like a diamond, throw it in the paper with a strong 5 liner for let's say ..$4900 and take a wack at $4 ...

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
........ So -- We have a 95 with a 4 cyl ..and your about to hit the big 100 ..

ATM's and other stationary objects ..l..o..l... I like an honest man.

$1,800 is just about right ..if you live in Bulgaria.

I think a dealer might be lookin' more towards a Ghee whiz --

I'd be mad too if I were paying THAT much money for a car that rattled :)

All jokes aside I know how you feel. We had a 2000 Silverado that needed brakes, a new sliding rear window, a new throttle body, and a claying all within 1 month of ownership. No more GM's for us. It wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed (although they did put an aftermarket rear window in instead of finding a permanent fix for the factory one) but it was an annoyance compared to our other cars. My Protege has alot of strange noises compared to my Hondas but that's what the stereo is for.

56k with new shoes, nice blue interior, white paint a little dull even after detailing, drives great, 1.8 engine, 1 or 2 parking lot kisses (really have to look for those), nice driving car. Hoping for at least $7000. in the paper. Am I really outta wack here? Thanks in advance all!
Oh yes, this is a South Florida car.

    .... Where in S. FL ..?

This little puppy has no miles .. it should be good to go for another 100,000++ after a timing belt.

It's got the new sneak package .. all in all, it sounds pretty nice.

Try it out at the $6,900 figure .. and you should see $5,7/$5,9/$6,100 ..(whoever has CIF .. - Cash In Fist)

    Good luck ..

    Thanks for the information.

I could have given a little more information in my post, but I think you told me what I need to know. The company is offering it to employess, in a sealed bid "auction", minimum bid of $3,000. I thought if I could get it for about that it would be a great deal. Sounds like it is priced right, most Luminas with that many miles are years older, and newer ones are priced higher but with lower miles.

    Thanks again.

..... Keep in mind, those are wholesale figures. Sooo, if you can even be "around" those figures, you know ..$3,4/$3,800ish it would still be a good buy. You know the previous owner real well, you know the service that's been done, the history.. etc. On the retail side, a guy walking down the street will pay close to $5 for it.
--Your welcome, and good luck ..

    Here are the specifics:

2000 Mustang GT Convertible 21k miles with just about every option. Am planning to trade in in the next week or so and would like to get some idea of what I should hold out for from the dealer. Kelly Blue Book says that the dealer trade-in value is $15,800 and the private sale is $18,800. Additionally, the dealer retail sale price is $22,535 while the private buying price is $17,715.

Ideally, I'd like to come in between the $18,800 and $22,535 figures obviously. How much should I realistically hold out for? My 1st thought is that I'd settle for $19,500. Is that an unreasonable figure? How much negotiation do dealers usually do on the trade in price? My feeling is that if a $40,000 sale is hinged on giving up a bit of profit on the resale of the trade-in, they'd go for it.

    Thoughts anyone?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... All Dealers are a little different, but you have a vehicle that's easy to put a figure on ..

It's a GT, it on the low side for miles ..

And depending on where you live, color and condition will make a big difference on what the value is.

Let's say it's .. clean, 2 maybe 3 small dings about the size of a dime or less. Let's say, it has a small scrape on the rear fascia about the size of a watch. Now ... lets say, the interior looks 02, the tires are in great shape and all worn even -- Ok, now it's red to go along with, and you live in NC.

This is a vehicle that will do "in and around" the high $15 figure .. like $15,5/$15,8 maybe it could do $16,2 if it's real nice.(real money)

If it has a bunch of scrapes .. the paint has sap stains and you have been the delivery vehicle for Dominos, then start deducting ...

The KBB doesn't have a clue, and as a rule they are gonna be about 5/10% too high ..if you use their numbers, you will be in the tree' s.

If you decide to retail it by yourself .. a $18,500 figure would be a good "asking" price, and you should see the high $17's

We have a 99 Toyota Solara SE V6 auto, dual power seats, sliding sun roof, 6000 miles, JBL sound, hunter green. My wife got a company car so we don't need it any more. What could I get trade in or private sale? What would it auction for? Thanks.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Good morning, how are you ..?

    A Solara huh..? --- WOW ..! -- only 6,000 miles ..?

    What's up with that ..?

The color is .. well ok (depends on where your from) .. It's a V6 (BIG help) SE, it has the slider and the seat's, the "Fat daddy" JBL.(more help)

Sounds nice, plus it's all toyed out -- and it has Zippity Do Dah for miles.

This puppy will do all of the ultra high $11's at the block .. who knows ..? This could wonder into the $12's, on a "out of the book" day. I don't think you will see those #'s on your side of the deal

Me personally (if this vehicle is Jam-up) ... I wouldn't waste my time on a trade.
I would do a great 5 liner in the paper .. hang it out on the driveway with a ritzy FOR SALE sign for $14,900 and let someone beat me senseless to the mid $14's .. grab the cash and go buy a 330SS Formula.

    Terry.

Don't you ever sleep, lol? But really, y'all are doing a great service for us here and it is greatly appreciated! One question though. Is it really necessary to change the timing belt on that '96 Corolla DX at 60k or can I wait a bit? Thanks again. BTW, I live down in Coral Springs Florida, ever hear of it?
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
........ Of course I do ... everytime we go to the auctions.

Hmmmmm, Coral Springs. I'm not sure if I have ever been there. Let's see, the "Bar" should be right down the street from you ..and Pickles.

Bahia Club should be about 3 miles south of you .. I have a friend that lives right off Fed Hwy..NE14th. We take his 501 Constellation down to Shooters.

    Nope -- never been there ..! l..o..l..

    Terry.

I think -- they call for it at 60k .. but don't worry about ..most people don't cover it til 60+++++ ..

Looking to sell this at the end of the year. After the 2003 model is out. Will have approx. 75k miles on the odometer(highway). Very good condition and garaged, non-smoker. Has the premium/sport package, heated seats, steptronic transmission, xenon lights and navigation system. Will this be difficult to sell myself due to the miles. What would be a reasonable price now for this vehicle and a speculated projection 9 months from now. I prefer to sell on my own rather than trade but would like to know both values. Is it harder to sell a more expensive vehicle like this on my own. I don't live in a big city like DC or Philly so I need to consider this as well.
  • thenspctrthenspctr Member Posts: 1
I have a 99 dodge intrepid that is in excellent condition, new tires, oil changed regularly every 3k, non-smoker, the only kicker is that the car has 82k miles on it. I bought it as a lease return and had 34k on it then. I am needing to trade into a minivan just for the space. what kind of trade in can I expect to find?

..... It's tuff to guess what a high mileage vehicle .. might be worth in 9 months.

    But I can do a "today thing" ... 4dr. ..?

Let's say it has 50k on it now .. clean, toyed out, brand new sneakers -- looks new, little or no dings dent's, etc.

    I would say around the $19's . ..if it's a baby doll.

    Terry.

Is that $19k figure trade or selling on my own. I was hoping to get $18 at end of year selling on my own.

My dad is wanting to sell his 89 Ford Ranger. It has 39,000 miles, slight hail damage and needs some AC work. Otherwise in great shape. It's a V6, automatic. He also has a "topper" on the back. Has a friend that is interested in buying it, but has no idea what to sell it to him. Location is Wichita, Kansas. Would love to hear from anyone that can help us out with this!

Selling privately a '96 Intrepid(pwr drivers seat, traction control, message center, fog lights, electric sunroof). Has hail damage on trunk and hood. Trunk has dent on the lip and the plastic piece that runs the lenghth of the trunk as some missing plastic at the top. What is it worth selling privately. 107k miles. Rblt transmission, new timing belt, all new front brake parts and tie rods. 50% tread left.

Wanting to buy a 2001 Tahoe LT with all options(autoride, sunroof, tow package, rear audio controls, running boards, heated seat etc.) Dealer will sell for $28k which includes a 3 yr GMPP 50k mile warranty(extends warranty from 36k to 50k and not an additional 3 years). Has 34k on the odomter. New tires. Highway miles. Spoke to previous owner. No problems mechanically. Great interior/exterior. Pewter in color. 4x4. Is this a good deal.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... Doesn't Dorothy and Toto live there ..?

This will all depend on how much "hail damage" there is.

Let me just take a shot at it. Let's assume you have about 10/12 small BB style hit's around the truck .. and no big glares when you look.

It's a V6, Auto ..and it's got a topper -- and most of all, it has no miles, XL ..?

A fair retail, if it's nice and clean, new tires.. minus the bumps and the lumps would be a quarter. (translation: $2,500)

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
...... What the heck ...? Did we have a hail storm recently ...?

I better go out and check my vehicle ...

    Ok .. mines still alright.

Sooo, this a rebuilt Intrepid, with a ton of miles -- ES ..?

Let's just say it is ... it's a $1,500 vehicle on the push, so ask $2900 and you will see $2/$2,200.

The Tahoe sounds nice. It's a LT 4x4 with the leather, moon, R boards, conv pack, right color -- but, it has a ton of miles.

If you have checked the history ..and you have the warranty, you should be in good shape. The dealer probably owns it for "around" $26, so $28 is fair.

How many vehicles are you trying to buy ..and sell.?

$19 is a w/sale figure. I'm thinkin' more like $14/$15 for the Bimmer with 75klicks.

Let's ask Bill --- HEY Bill, wake up..! What's your thinkin' ... (I can never find him when I need him)

    Good Luck ...

Ok.. I cant get ANY sleep around here!

On the BMW.. Hmm.. its' only been 1/4 to the moon so far.. once it hits 1/3 (At 75K) I am thinking...

$14,500ish.. Depends on condition really but my crystal ball is off today. Who knows... A lot of these road warrior cars seem to be piggy.. so have it detailed.

    OK, what else I miss?

Oh yeah, that 02 TrailBlazer LT.. I am crimson colored too. I think I need to join terry in the corner here. I [non-permissible content removed] U ME d that it was Leather, Roof, Vibrating Massaging Heated Leather seats with power recliners and shiatsu option... and a Satellite dish.

    $23-24K is really a fair ##..

I'll buy the Tahoe at $28k. I to thought it was a fair price. Clean carfax and history to boot. Man, $2200 for the Dodge. I'll never buy one of those again. I wanted to get $4k out of it or at least $3k. Guess I need to lower my current price of $4700. I would hate to get rid of that Bimmer for $15k. Is it best to just drive it till 150k on the odometer or try to sell it like I do at about 70-75k. I don't know anything about repair costs on a Bimmer with miles. Your input is greatly appreciated. What could I expect on a Bimmer with 150k ticks.

I am trading or selling a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited-- all power and leather. It is Char Gold and fairly loaded. V6-- 87 thou miles.

Do you think I would do better selling outright or trading?? I am looking at Conversion Vans. Hoping to get a good deal because they aren't in huge demand.... The van is a 2001 demo. Any advice on that??
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    ..... Is that a 4Wd ..............?

Big diff in the value ..!

And tell me about this Conversion Van. It all depends on the conversion co. -- Gladiator, Explorer, etc. -- high top ..? engine ..?

    Work with me people ...!

Do I have to send everyone to their room tonight ..?

No ticky ... No washy ..!

Im with Terry (Im waking up and getting caught up here..)

The Tahoe is a buy, you oughta be grabbin the checkbook :)

As far as the BMW.. Why not just run it till it dies? A 150K mile, say.. 97 MIGHT pull $8K or so, so go for broke with it. With proper care they can take megamiles too..
