Wow! Thanks for the fast answer on my Dad's truck! That is in the ballpark figure I was thinking. He is having a hard time letting go of it....It isn't the money, (although he does think it is worth more!) He's 82, not great health and feels that he is losing his independence, without his wheels. Of course he hasn't driven it since August, and my mom is the one to keep the battery charged, etc. Hopefully we can get him to sell it soon. Thanks Again!
Sorry, Terry!! Guess I was asleep at the wheel..ugh!
Yes, the Jeep GC is 4wd. The Van is a Ford (The engine is a 5.4L EFI V8) with a Regency conversion-- a demo with 7000 miles-- a 2001. It originally listed for $46,400 but is down to 36500 prior to the current rebate of 4000. This without any real negotiation, etc... I am just wondering how much further they will go?? It is very loaded--(NOT a hightop) leather, tv, etc... but it is a demo and a 2001 and thjis dealership has several several on the lot.....
You are the best for advising all of us rookies! Thanks so much. Hope I did better on providing info this time.
The drive system helps.. Hmm.. I think we're looking around $7,000 here as a trade to perhaps 7,500. That Chargold (Its that slightly greenish smoky gold, right?) is a great color on those akin to Pearl White on an LS400. 6cyl isnt a big help tho. I'll let Terry tackle the conversion van as I have no idea to be fair.
You may wanna shop for a used conversion van tho. They drop in value like Kias tho.. so a 99 in clean shape can often be grabbed for a TON less.
What do you guys think I could get for my old beat-up 1991 Acura Legend L sedan automatic with 123k miles. The dark blue paint is faded on the hood and rear bumper and there are a few dings on the right side doors. The interior is clean with new leather but the back seat is broken(happened while rear seat was being reinstalled). Everything works. It runs fine but I'm pretty sure that it has a blown head gasket since I seem to be losing coolant into my oil. So how much(if anything) could I get for such a POS? Thanks!
...... Food for thought .. his vehicle will be worth $2,500 now ..and 5 years from now (properly maintained ..and no more hail ,l..o..l..)
So, if the dear guy likes it ..and he doesn't need the cake, he likes to look out the window and see it, and that makes him happy -- then I would keep it for now.
..... I'm not getting any "warm fuzzy" feeling on this one, I'm not sure why.
Hmmmmm, miles.. well there ok. The seats, that can be an issue.. and of course, the engine thing that doesn't help ---- Soooo, I'm kinda thinking negative waves here.
It's a Ghee whiz vehicle -maybe-... depending on what the engine does in the next 15 minutes.
...... You need to tread lightly around Conversion Vans.
Back in the late 80's, we used to sell 25/30 a month -- big business.
Now, they are a over qualified breed .. big bulky, can't see anything, driving to the local 7-11 is like painting a house (no fun).
The conversion co. is good .. not great -- I forgot to ask .. is this a 3/4 ton chassis ..?
There is many rebates on the "chassis" of the vehicle's now and the conversions don't cost much more than $5,5/$6,0/$6,500 total.
Me personally -- I would be lookin' at a pre-owned. There is a lot of them for sale for a LOT less than $46. You can probably pick up one, a year old with 5/6/7k for about half that.
These are kinda like boats .. people get a little nutty, they think they are going to Bahama's for a 2wk trip ..then can use em' for errands when they come back .. ouch!
Just like Bill and the others have mentioned ..The re-sale gets ugly about 5 minutes after you have bought it.
I am looking to trade in a 97 T-Bird with 33k miles. Body is mint. V8, spoiler, sunroof, pwr windows, no leather (sorry). Clean CarFax history. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi- I have a Honda Accord EX V6 that I consider to be in excellent condition with 23,000k miles and some change. The only additions to the car are a spoiler, half bra, and wood trim interior, the other frills like leather, etc. on the car I believe are standard. What do you think you would give as a trade in value? My research showed trade in at $15,670, private party sale at $18730, and dealer retail at around $20,000. I am finding it difficult to stomach that $15,670 mark when I know the dealer will make that much. Thanks.
....... Ok, let's take a look. Let's see how good that research is ..
For starters, it has low miles for the year. It also has the spoiler, wood deco and the nose candy.
Actually, this is probably a nice vehicle ..if, there is no dent's, dings are very small and the interior has missed the McDonalds invasions. (color ...?)
If this vehicle is super nice and clean .. tires are A-1, this would do an easy $16,500 at the block ...
Thanks for the input, I consider myself more armed when i hit the pavement against the dealer's numbers. Luckily, all things on it are plush, except for a small rear right panel ding that is an expert PDR job to remove. One thing that I did notice on my tade-in calculator was that it it sliced the trade value by about $120 with its achilles heal of being black. Tires are in A1 condition, they should be with what Michelin charges for tires. Thanks again.

I have a red 98 Astro van 2wd LS dual air, all power except seats (cloth seats) with 104,000 miles in the Florida panhandle Excellent condition. Can you give me the dealer trade in vs. pivate party price? I'm thinking of trading it in for a 97 Mustang GT purple with 66,000 miles on it. Leather and all power. What do u think the asking price on the Mustang should be?
I have a 95 Mercury Cougar, V8, Auto, Leather, drive & passenger power seats, Moonroof, am/fm/cd premium sound. The vehicle has 97,000 miles. There are a few minor dings. Otherwise, in pretty good condition. I have been meticulous about servicing the engine & transmission. I have receipts for all work done. I will be trading in for a new vehicle. Give me a hint of what to expect. Can you give me the dealer trade in vs. pivate party price? Thanks.
Quit pickin' on people for driving, they don't drive much compared to my family. Hubby has put almost 6K on that 2001 Ram (17,500 on the odometer now) since he bought it November 27th and I have put almost 8K on the 1998 Jeep (57K on it now) since I got it November 10th. My mom drives a 1996 Cavalier that she bought in May of 1997 with 12K on it.....its got just shy of 150K on it now. High mileage is normal up here, anything less than 20K a year and the dealers think they have found a low mileage car!!
I have a 1994 Honda Del Sol, white, 96,000 miles, automatic, power windows, a/c, sony am/fm w/ cassette, cruise control, 4 cyl. The interior is in excellent condition. However, the car needs some minor body work on the ldriver side near the fender (the estimate is $300). All of the scheduled service has been performed on it .
The dealer was watering at the mouth when he saw it and said he didn't have another one on the lot. He initially offered $3,500 trade-in, then went up to $4,000, then up to $4,200. Am I getting the run around? Edmunds said I should be able to get around 5,000.
I'm sure that I can get something out of it even if it takes a $1000 repair. Do you think I could sell it the way it is now? If so, how much should I ask? And if I repair it, how much should I ask? The back seat isn't necessarily broken but I can't get it reinstalled. Hopefully that doesn't mean that it can't be reinstalled by an expert. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I'm considering purchasing a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with about 30000 miles. It's a 4wd, green and is loaded. Optional equip it has the convenience group, luxury group plus a couple others. I've never owned a suv. Any thing You could advise me on this vehicle would be appreciated. I would be purchasing from a dealer and possibly trading in my Black 1997 Ford 150 extended cab short bed, 39,000 miles. What is a fair asking price for the Mountaineer and a reasonable trade in value for the f150?
Thinking of trading my 98 Legacy Outback wagon. Green, 5-spd, roof rack, 42k miles.
I've got it up for sale right now, but thinking it may be a hard sell in my area ( mild winter isn't helping either). I'm in central Indiana and don't see too many Subes around. I'm wanting to buy a less expensive vehicle and would save on sales tax that way if I trade. I'm curious as to what might be the trade difference at say, a Ford dealer vs. trading it at a Subaru dealer?
How much should i be able to get for a 1993 Accord 4 dr. 170,000 miles timing belt changed at 150000 new radiator this month. Will Car Max give a good price can i get $3000. In good shape

...... Subaru's are popular in your area.. with a winter or not.
5-speeds aren't too popular with lot's snow ..or lot's of sun, especially in a wagon.
The miles are ok ... condition predicates value. If it's nice, clean, interior is clean and looks good (no french fry invasions) and the outside doesn't have all those parking lot kisses ..and the tires are new. ----- you should be lookin' at -in and around- $10,500 depending on the condition.(Ford or import dealer)
Is the used car market really so depressed that my 2000 5M V6 Cougar w/42K, cruise, power everything, keyless entry is only worth ~$7-7.5K to a dealer??? Say it ain't so....
American cars don't hold their value as well as import cars do, the Cougar is not that popular of a car, and the miles are high for its year. I went through the same thing with one of my cars when trading it in. Don't feel bad, it happens.
1999 Dodge Intrepid 75k miles AM/FM/ CD player Temperature/Mileage/Distance/DTE/ computer above Power everything Automatic and Auto-stick Good exterior and interior Silver - exterior color Gray/Black - interior color
We want to move up to a minivan. We will need to trade in the Intrepid. What should I expect for trade-in?
...... The used car market is ..faaaar from being depressed. (another urban rumor)
For starters your vehicle is got a ton of miles for the year .. Sooo, just for the grins and glory, let's knock off a Nick for that.
Now if I read this right, you have a handshaker .. no help there. Sooo, let's knock off a Nick for that ...
V6, in demand and some major help there ...
Now, I'm not lookin' at your vehicle ... So, tell me, does it have brand new tires ..? Is the interior so clean, that someone would mistake it for an 02 ...?
And last but not least, the exterior ... does it have little or no dings or dent's .. No gang wars with the shopping carts, No kisses from ATM machines -- does it look ..02 ..?
Was this vehicle cleaned and detailed before you presented it for inspection ..? no road salt, no Love bug damage, etc.
If -- you can say -YES- to all that, then the vehicle is probably worth in and around the ultra high $8's ...
Okay, being serious. Looking at a Saturn SL2 at Saturn of Gwinnett in Duluth, GA. I show him my trade yesterday. At first, was half-way thinking he would say they couldn't help me with it. He took the keys and drove it--a good sign. He comes back, goes into his office for a few minutes--I guess running a Carfax or something. I'm thinking he's going to offer a "courtesy" $500 and hope it doesn't kill the deal. He comes out and offers $1450. As he's trying to explain how Kias don't have much resale and are not real good on trading, I can't hear him. I'm too busy trying to keep a straight face and saying to myself "Must...keep...calm...don't...jerk...his arm off...when I take...the $1450!" Even kbb.com gives it a trade-in value of a little more than $1300--and we all know how high kbb.com can be. I know he has room to move because Saturns have more profit than most people realize, but $1450? Wow!
the f150 is black, 2 wheel drive, extended cab, xlt, 6 disc cd, power drivers seat, factory towing package, 39000 miles Trade in value??? Would I be better off to sell myself?? The dealer is asking 18,900 for the 2000 Mountaineer, any thoughts????
..... Oooooh, the plot thicken's -- not only is the Mountaineer less money, but the 97 is a lot more truck...hmmmm.
Well, if I was Sherlock Holmes (which I'm not) .. I would be lookin' for my pipe.
Hey, I don't smoke a pipe either.
Ok .. back to the truck. It has like .. no miles. It's black -- this can help ..or hurt you, It depends were you hang your golf bag at. It has the tow pack and some goodies ...
If this dude is clean .. nice, like new tires, all that black paint doesn't show all the scratches, dent's, car wash erosion, etc...ya know, it looks 2000 plus the interior is Jam-up.
then you gotta be around the low to mid $11's .. if it's looks like a mess, then start deducting ...on the retail side "ask" $13,900 and you probably will see the high $12's, maybe the low $13's.
Now back to the Mountaineer .. hmmmmmm, (smoking my pipe ..what pipe.?)
Their asking $18,900 and it's a 2000 with avg. miles. Lets say, they have $17 to the table in it. You should be able to trade them for a -in and around figure of- your vehicle and around $6,5/$7,000 plus the taxes and the Fleas.
Can anyone give me a real value for a 97 Chevrolet Suburban - 2 wheel drive, LS model? It has 79K miles on it. Looking for ideas on trading it in or selling it. It was purchased used (previously a lease vehicle from dealer). I will think twice before I do that again.
Buddy -- he probably has $11,500 in it .. I'm paying $12,9 for the 01's with 12k ...I think you got a great deal going, try to shave him for a buck or two .. but, I think your all there.

Hmm... Say its a 2WD with cloth... heheheh...
Seriously.. More info!

If you live where the Stars and Bars hang out .. you could be in for a rough ride.
A black vehicle down south can be the "kiss of death" ..in Boston, they will pay more for em'..

Anyways, Black hurts it in Hot climates
You know.. I say that you may wanna shop that against some Honda dealers... That's a car I'd sure as heck want if I was a Honda dealer.

It's got 104,000 big klicks .. It's an LS.
If it's as clean as you say it is ..and the love bugs haven't carried it home yet. Then you are lookin' at "around" $3/$3,500 from a dealer.
If you flip the coin and go retail, then you might ask $5950 and you might see ..$5ish.
Purple ..? A purple GT, that in itself is a deduct -- purple ..?
Ok ... it's got some miles and it's ... purple (big seller).
They probably have $6ish in it (coupe right ..?)... So, how about $7,500 ..or $7,4 ..or $7,3 .. or $7,2 -- well, you get the picture.
Good luck ...
Terry.
Ok --- Let's ponder this one.
Ok ... I'm done pondering.
If it's nice .. clean, shows like a 99 and the interior has had no whip cream battles. Then you are probably lookin' at around $3ish on a trade.
If you go on the "dark side" ..and retail it, ask $4900 and let someone drive in, and get the mid to low $4's.
Have some fun ....
Terry.
I will call the Polar Bear Society on you ..then you will be in big trouble.
You know, I do like to kid.
I'll bet I drive 25k a year ..or at least sleep in the back that far ..l...o...l...

I need a little more info ..
The Mountaineer, they probably have $17,500+ in it ..4WD, not a AWD .. right ..?

It's one of those things -- tell the customer "The bad news" now.. or wait til he drives the exact vehicle he want's to buy.
Remember Clay, these vehicles have like .. no re-sale value. At least these guys are trying .. scared, but trying ..l..o..l..
There could be an extra hundred somewhere .. but I think most dealers will want to be closer to that Ghee whiz figure.
There no discounting on the Saturn side .. So if it makes you feel a little better, try a different brand.
I hope this might help ...
Terry.
Wow... IMHO, that was a solid 650 overallowance.... you done REAL well!

I'm thinking in the 2,000 neuighborhood.. Terry?

$6,250 is where I'd sign off it at. Maybe 6500..
