Thanks Bill. I'm in Columbus, OH. I put it out on Autotrader.com for $19,750, and was going to take $19K for it. So that's not out of line then, right?
What does the amazing Kreskin say about my 98 Toyota Corolla, 4-dr LE, automatic, w/ cruise and CD player, 38,000 miles, no body damage other than parking lot dings, clean interior? Dark blue (thank Zeus I talked the missus out of that lilac-colored nightmare!), power windows and locks, Chicago area.
Sorry, I hit the wrong button and posted. Anyway, I have a 2000 Honda Civic Si in black with 46,000 miles on it. I am thinking of selling it if I can get about a $2000 profit out of it so it will make my next car essentially the same price. Can anyone tell me what my car is worth. I have brand new tires on it as well as I am about to get a brake job, new rotors and pads on all fours. There are no physical defects with my car, I have touched up the few nicks that I received in normal wear and tear from some construction zones but that is it. The interior has no blemishes except the driver floor mat is a little worn. Other than that, the car is flawless.
My sister-in-law is thinking of trading in her Civic. It's a plain-jane 2-dr coupe with auto, air and AM/FM/Cass. She bought it new and now has 55,000 miles. It's been garaged since new and is basically perfect inside and out (maybe 2 door dings). About 60% on the rubber. It's that purply-red that Honda was real fond of in the mid-90's and the car is in the Portland, OR area.
She's trading it in on another Civic ('02 EX), if that makes any difference.
2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited - Forest Green, leather, heated power seats, power everything, air, ABS, 6800 miles (yes, 6800), Selec-Trac 4wd, absolutely new inside/out. Spokane, WA area
..... You gotta be careful with those buttons .. my G/F almost set the stove on fire last night with the wrong buttons ... :-)
You gotta bunch of klicks going for Ya here (black, what area are you from ..?) ... but if it's as nice and clean as you say it is, you should do "around" the mid $11's ..
This one has no miles, it's an LE ..and it has one of those new fangled contraptions called a auto transmission, that helps. Plus you have the tunes to go with
If it's clean .. and needs -0- .. you should be around the low $7's ..
Heck no ..! I just wanted to let you squirm for a while ..l.o.l...
The 99 LX is low in miles .. it's an auto, the dealer probably has $13 and change in it with all that Certified junk.
The 01 is a tinge on the high side for the miles, but knowing you .. I'm sure you have been all over it, and it's "all there" .. the dealer probably has the low $15's in it.
Yes, I just got the car washed and waxed yesterday and it looks really good. The interior is flawless. The only bad thing is the mileage, but that is all expressway. I live in Dearborn Heights, a suburb of Detroit. There are a lot of Hondas on the road, but not too many Si's where I live. I have have never missed an oil change but I have not done all the Honda Maintainance since I figured I could check my own air filter instead of paying $150 to have it done. I would rather pay the extra $8 at the oil change to have them inspect my car instead of paying Honda $300. Like I said, the car is flawless inside and out, plus the new tires, that match of course. It is completely stock, no modifications have been made and I don't have any spoilers or fog lights. It looks like an every day Civic coupe aside from the DOHC stickers on the side of the car and the low profile tires. I looked up on Edmunds and they are talking about $13,199 for a private party sale which I think I will try and do. Trade in is only $11,800 which is still less than what I owe, but won't give me as much back as I want to buy a 2002 Jetta GLS 1.8t. Buy the way, what is the word out on the jetta's?
I just wanted to take a minute to thank Bill and Terry, with a special thanks to Terry for the additional email support. :-) Until last night, I had been looking for a car since April 2001 when I sold my '97 Explorer. I finally bought a '99 black on tan Lexus LS400 with 29k miles for $31,990. Bill - you said it was either a steal, or had major paint work. It was mostly the former. There are a lot of surface scratches that should buff out, and about three real scratches and 2-3 paint chips that won't, but hopefully they won't look too bad once I clean out the poor touch-up job and redo them. I don't kow if I got tired of looking, or just figured I'd never find the perfect black used car, but the price at least made it tolerable. It really wasn't any worse than the cars I was looking at from Lexus dealers for at least $3k more. (asking prices more than that) Anyway, I'll still be lurking, with maybe an occasional post for family and/or friends. You guys are great!
I echo what has been said as thank you to Brentwood and RR on here. This is a great service. With that in mind, I would like your opinion on a deal I was offered yesterday. I have been shopping for an SUV for a month or so.
I was about to take the plunge on a Tahoe until I drove an Acura MDX yesterday. It was very sweet and seems to be the perfect vehicle for me.
A couple of weeks ago I asked for a "real world" value on my 2001 Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4x4. It has the 5.4 V-8, towing package, two tone paint (red/silver) power drivers seat, spray in bed liner. You guys said it was worth $20ish.
Yesterday at the Acura Dealer, they offered me an MDX at MSRP, and $22,000.00 for my trade. I have seen these MDX's going for above MSRP, so I am wondering, is this a good deal?
...... The "$20ish figure" is a number -- (based on what you have told us) .. that a dealer might put in that little critter ..
$20ish means -- $20,2/$20,6/$20,800 .. and maybe, just maybe on a good day, and a good dealer .. maybe $21.
If you are getting $22, let the good times role -- That's the "whole Coma Se' Yama" ..and the bag of chips that goes with.
In this case, whether they are showing you an "over allowance" or just a discount or perhaps both --- That my friend is a GREAT deal, plus the tax net.
I love those MDX's .. I have driven a few, but yet, still haven't had a chance to purchase one at the auctions -- cause' they get all the money ..and the "bag of chips" that go with ..l..o..l...
So, if you have this chance, for those figures ---- Jump..!
I talked to a dealer over the phone today. She told me that they have a Camry XLE V6 with just about all options except Navi. The car is a demo with about 4500 miles. How much less than the new TMV should I pay?
Didn't mean to send you on a wild goose chase. I just wanted your general impressions.
I didn't have a particular year Lexus GS300 in mind, just the first generation. I expect they do well at auctions. To my eyes, they are among the best looking modern sedans. I saw and, once again, admired one on the highway home last nite. But I'm not looking to buy. Thanks anyway.
I'm looking to help out a friend by buying his Accord, a 2002 manual LX with 6,000 miles, dark blue, showroom condition, no extras. What would be the wholesale range for this car? The web sites don't have data on the current year.
I want to help him out, but don't want to overpay.
I posted a question a while back regarding a Ford Expedition. My impression from Bill's response is that these vehicles are plentiful and the prices are somewhat soft.
In shopping for these in Northern Virginia, however, the dealers either don't share that view, or they're perfectly happy holding on to the ones they have!
To keep me sane, would you guys mind telling what a ballpark retail price for say a 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer 4x4, red, with the common toys, would be? Mileage between 27,000 and 30,000.
Hi guys, We're about to buy a new car, and we currently have a 1992 Acura Integra LX with 95,000 miles. Color is black with tan interior. It's automatic with sunroof, spoiler, cruise control, cassette. Runs great, but exterior is only average (some light scratches, a few spots where the paint isn't so hot) for its age. They're selling in the paper for asking prices of around 3500 to 4500, and I'm wondering if it's worth it to sell it ourselves or trade it in. Any ideas on what we might get as a trade? Thank you so much in advance! Susan.
..... Bill is right, they are plentiful ..and in *demand*.
If you are lookin' at a nice one .. clean to the bone, knee deep in rubber, interior looks new, 25/30k. Those are going through the blocks in and around that $25 and change figure.
I'm sure that was an easy sale for Abs at $28 (no disrespect intended) .. people like em' and they sell well.
Okay, I took your advice and told them I would come get the MDX tomorrow. So, I am giving up the good old SuperCrew and trading it for the MDX. The whole "Coma' Se Yama!" I'll let you know how it is doing soon.
I actually looked for a used MDX before I found this one. Found one at carmax in Houston, Texas, but not much difference in price than the new one I am buying, plus I really did not relish the drive to Houston and I doubt they would have given me nearly as much as I am getting on the trade.
Thanks to you and Brentwood for the great service you provide, as well as some comic relief you guys give us.
..... I see you are from Mass, so the black will just blend in.
These little dudes sell well new, used, wrecked ... well maybe not wrecked l..o..l..
The miles are ok. for the year. It's got all the nice toys. If you can get it cleaned and detailed, and the sneakers are in the newish faze -- and the the interior can still be seen by the human eye.
You could see a $4/$4,500 figure on the retail side. On the trade side, maybe "around" a quarter or so.
How about a 02 Camry LE with 2k. Thinking about trading it in on a MAX or selling it in the paper. It just doesn't excite me. How much should it bring? OH Yeah Silver with pwr seat and Keyless. You guys are just great. This is the best thread on Edmunds!!
02 Le owner thinking about getting a 02 SE 6-speed. They are having a firesale on them for 21 +tax down here in GA. That will get my blood pumping! Figured I'd ask before the miles pile up on the LE. Just might keep it anyway!! I'm a Jacket fan. Hope Bill has some ice skates!! Too cold to be hoofing it.
Hey Terry, it is pretty hard living in the heart of UT territory and seeing all of that blasted orange....so I am still a fan of my beloved alma mater, the Crimson Tide, and still love the Aggies....especially because it is where Bear became famous and also alma mater to Coach Gene Stallings, a truly great man.
I have to drive to Austin, Texas for a month worth of meetings in April and it will be hard to be around all that burnt orange also. At least I'll get to enjoy the windshield time in my new Acura. I'll be sure to have my Alabama markings on it before I go.
Tell Edmunds to send you that t-shirt and if you are ever in the volunteer state, let me know and I'll buy you dinner.....
Yeah... $22K for that Trade? versus Sticker only on an MDX?
Unless you left 12-17 $100 bills in the glovebox, I assume you wrote the check, right?
You got "All the money". And, Terry, I think you got it wrong here. He didnt get the bag of chips, I think he got closer to a carton.
Strong deal. Not to be "cute" but they musta wanted your trade (Well, it IS Texas) because I see no other reason to step up so heavily against an MDX. But who am I to say? Ya done well, and, as always, glad to help almost anyone on here

Both in very good condition. What do you think. Thanks in Advance!!!
She's trading it in on another Civic ('02 EX), if that makes any difference.
Thanks
You should be in and around the mid $14's (real money) ..
Terry.
Bills right on the figures .. your should see a Strong $17+ and some change on a trade -- and take down $20 on the retail side ...
Who told you $14 ..? An economics major at Ohio State ..? .l..o..l...
Terry.
Is that kinda like a black eye ..? l.o.l...
Well anyway, no miles ..if it's clean, nice and could pass for a 99 -- you should be "in and around" a $3ish figure on a trade.
Terry.
You gotta bunch of klicks going for Ya here (black, what area are you from ..?) ... but if it's as nice and clean as you say it is, you should do "around" the mid $11's ..
Good luck ..
Terry.
He says kbb.com hit it at $15K.
They hit a car$2,000++ too LOW?
Since WHEN?

Oh well, it's their life ..and were just liven' in it -- l..o..l...

You would think that Edmunds would at least send me a friggin T-shirt ..l.o.l..
I think you will really enjoy your new driver .. there great. And if you don't like it, you can just about sell it for what you paid for it.
Sooo, are you a Tennessee Volunteer now or are you still a A&M fan ..?
Terry.
These little dudes sell well new, used, wrecked ... well maybe not wrecked l..o..l..

zzzzzzzzzzz. Sorry, I must have fallen to sleep waiting for your reply...
DING - what round is it ..?
Terry.
So it's a base LE, with the keyless and the seat package. It's a $17,5/$18 driver ...
If you don't mind me asking .. what are you lookin' at this time ..?
Are you a Bulldog fan ?... And we thank you for the compliment. I will tell Bill, as soon as triple A gets here .. his Voxinslobbin broke down again.
