Please don't tell us your Expedition is somewhere down South, like FL, GA, TX, AZ, someplace like that. I sure hope you're up north somewhere, like Boston or Detroit or Seattle. A black on grey 4x4 Exp. in the middle of a hot summer is almost impossible to sell.

I hope it's in nice condition (never been in an accident, new tires and brakes, fresh from the detail shop, perfect interior, etc, etc) as that will help. But if it looks rough and has needs.........
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... No I don't think you are plump .. actually, you are very attractive in those shorts and halter top.

But anyway, back to the truck stuff .. let's see here. You have the quads, leather, back-up beep beep, tow pack, slider, side bags, the big 8, tunes to go and it's a 4x4 .. all the right stuff, lot's of help going on here

Bretfraz brought up a good point .. where is this black beauty ..? I will just assume and hope ..uumm, Lexington KY, those horse farms would die for that color.

The miles still come into play .. a bunch going on here and no help at all. I know what KBB says and as a rule, they are about 10/12% OFF market value -- Edmunds is a wonderful site, but their figures are .. well, lets just say - it's hard for them to keep up with the day to day market.

SUV's are super hot .. but if you will scroll up and read the last 20 or so posts, it's summer time and SUV's and 4x4's get cool when it's hot, that's just the market. Right now, with all the miles you will be lookin' around that $19/20ish figure on a trade, so the dealers are trying hard for your business, (if it didn't have all those nice options, you would not break $17) .. that's if it's knee deep, looks brand new and the interior has missed the Mcdonalds invasions, the miles aren't a Kazillion, but 37k on a 01 -- OUCH ..!

Next time, try Cheap Tickets.com l..o..l...

    I hope this helps ...

Someone I know needs a little help on getting out of her Jeep lease. Here's the details:

*2000 Jeep Wrangler (probably base model, not Sahara and don't think it's a Sport)
    *52K miles
    *2.5L 4 cyl with auto
    *yellow exterior w/ grey cloth
    *Infinity sound with CD
*rollup windows and push down locks
*had some front end damage (hit a deer). Had LF fender, grill, and area repaired.
    *worn tires
*decent condition - could use a good detail
    *in Central FLA

KBB and Edmunds is telling here $12K. Payoff per Gold Key Lease is about $15K. I've told her that $12K is a tad ambitious.

What do you think, wholesale and retail? She wants to do something this weekend.

    Thanks.

Trying to trade a 98 Chevy Lumina LTZ with 98500 mi.
It is in good condition overall, needs tires, leather power everything, steering wheel radio controls, cruise, tilt, no sunroof. Kelly gives a trade-in value of 5600 but the local dealers want to offer 2-3grand max. Why can't I at least get the wholesale trade in value for this car? Similar cars on Autobuy.com are going anywhere from 7000 to 9000 What's it worth?

96' White Dodge Grand Caravan LE with 103K miles. Good condition overall and does not need any work except interior cleaning and a bit of minor paint work for scratches. Autotrade dealers selling for average price of $7700 (anywhere from 6000 - 9500). Kelly list retail selling price at $9300 and Edmunds at $8900. Trade in values listed at $5600-$5900. What can I really expect for trade in? Was expecting (change that to hoping) for $4500-$5000... is this unreasonable?

How did you guess what I was wearing??? ;-)

Thanks for the info, it wasn't exactly what I was hoping for, but... Oh well, I wanted the cold hard truth!

I suppose I have the "livin'" in Massachusetts thing goin' for me! Black beauty is a looker inside and out. She has been to the spa, and is wearing new shoes (Thanks to the Firestone recall!)... now its off to the street to pedal her wears!

Wish me luck boys! Thanks for your help!

99' Audi A6 Quattro Sedan, 25K miles, every option available, great condition, in Colorado. What should I expect for a trade in value?

Some dealers I've taken it to recently offered somewhere around $18K. That seems awfully low compared to NADA and Edmunds TMV for a trade-in which are both close to $24K.

I have a '99 Jeep Wrangler 4.0L Sport with all the options. Only 6100 miles. Like new condition. What do you think its trade-in value is?

    Thanks.

I think Terry needs a break... so I'll ask Bill... Good to have you back btw!
My neighbor totaled his '97 Olds 88 LS, good shape, 82k miles, no paint work, nonsmoker. I think these pretty much came loaded; I do know he had traction control.
I thought he'd got the settlement from the insurance company, but they are giving him the runaround.
So I thought I'd ask here what the thing would be worth wholesale/retail, so he knows what to ask for.
    Thanks in advance as always!

    .... I will try a shot at it .. Insurance co's make like -- "no sense" ...

They either give you a Ton, for a blasted out old vehicle .. or .. they won't give you $40,0 for a 00 Porsche Cabriolet with 29k .. go figure.

My neighbor just got $4,1 for his 93 Ford Taurus with 66k, and it's been hit by everything but - Joe Lewis, before the accident. l.o.l.. and they are crying. Maybe $7/$8 ..?

What's your thinkin' here Bill ....??

    Terry.

    ...... 6,100 miles ...?

Are you some kind of hermit or something ..?

I need to hook you up with Kwyman (Kim) .. she's a nut, and likes to drive all over the place. I would have too figure at least the low $12's, depending on the color and as long as it is A1. This is a great time to be trading one of this puppies, folks like em'.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
    .... Something is up here .. 25k..right ..?

If this bad boy is new in rubber, stands tall and lookin' 01 .. then it's got to be worth at least the mid $19's, probably more towards $20. Don't get yourself all excited with all that NADA and other stuff, there off .. Way OFF. $24 is more of a retail figure .. not a trade-in figure.

Soooo, maybe you have Possums living in the back seat .. or it's been hit by a Moose or something..?

If this is a real deal vehicle .. no kisses, no love taps, no food centers and stuff doesn't look back .. when you look in, then it's time to be checkin' out some other dealers -- I have a feelin' you are trying to trade at a domestic dealer ..?

I was in here a week or so ago asking about a 96 Civic and at that time I had an offer of $5300 but the buyer couldn't get financed for the car so we're back to square one.

It's a 1996 Honda Civic EX sedan 5-speed in Atlanta. Silver over gray cloth. 112,000 miles. New timing belt, new tires, rear spoiler, CD player, keyless, sunroof, power everything. Only bad thing is the car was repainted and it still shows well from afar but up close you can see "imperfections" in the paint. Carfax is clean and the interior of the car is in above average condition. What do you think is a "quick-sale" private owner price for this car since we already bought another Civic SI and this is now the 4th car in the driveway. We have been offered $3500 from Carmax but feel that's a bit low for the car.

    As always, thank you.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... For a "quick" sale -- based on Carmax's #'s, the vehicle might show a little more than you might think. Drop it in the Atlanta paper for $5,9, you should get some action off that price .. and take $4,900 and the change ..

Kinda keep in mind, it has the miles, it has the paint work .. but, most important it's a handshaker, that shrinks your buying market by 70%, but for the right price, a buyer will learn all over again .. l.o.l..

    Good luck ...

    Terry :-)
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
We've got it priced at $4900 .. we just want to get rid of it QUICK. Too many cars in the driveway now and it's really just dead weight when you have a LS400 and 2 Civic SI's to choose from.

Hello, I have a 2000 ford windstar LX, 2 sliding doors, 4 cloth captain chairs and one bench, cassite & cd, reverse sensor, loaded, has most SEL options just no leather. 28,000 miles. In excellent condition. The parked van was hit in a parking lot and $1900 worth of damage was done to the drivers side fender. It has been repaired. Exterior is Red, medium parchment interior. Non-smoker, transported only one person on interstate trips. Oil changed every 4000 miles with synethic oil. What is the trade-in value in Tennessee and what can I expect to get for it if I sell it myself? Thank you for your time.

..... Sorry Bret, looks like I missed a few of them over there ...

Tee off time is in 57 minutes, so the others will hafta wait .. l.o.l..

Ok, it's 00 with 52 Klicks, lot's of miles going on here .. it's a base or SE with crankers, no top and it has some re-done damage.

Oooooh, I'm sure they will love this .. gimme some good news, maybe in and around the high $8's ultra low $9's on a trade.. Whoooof, no help anywhere -- sorry.

Oooop's, Golf time, gotta go ... thanks for all the help.

Yes, I've decided to keep the Civic because:

    1) I would be upside over $2K
    2) Leesburg Honda finally fixed *everything* that Rosenthal Honda couldn't!
    3) I really do love my car and the payments, interest rate and the fact that I bought it brand new would have made it very hard to part with :)

I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones who get to run their Honda's for 100K miles. And you are right about the VW, lurking at the VW board I see many many problems!

    Thanks,

    Carrie
  • anonymouspostsanonymousposts Member Posts: 3,802
100,000 miles in a Civic isn't considered lucky, it's normal. Once you get 200,000+ without major problems then you are lucky. Now on the other hand 100,000 miles in Jetta is luck.

The dealer that leased that lady with the Jeep really did her a dis-service. If she's got 52k on a 00, then she is not a good leasing candidate, and I would think the dealer would have asked about her driving habbits and mileage tendencies. My dealership would have. If she doesn't get out of it, whe'll get hammered at turn-in. I'm certain that's why she wants out.

I'm going to be trading in an 98' white Mercury Sable that is in very good condition and has 63,000 mile on it. About what should I be asking for it when trading it in to a dealer?
  • brianw220brianw220 Member Posts: 38
Ask a lot but expect between 4 to 5 grand depending on what part of the country you're in. That has an awful lot to do with what you'll get in trade. But a Mercury sedan is pretty cold no matter where you are.

    Looking for trade-in value on:
    '88 Toyota Celica ST
    121000 miles
    Very clean
Some wear to upholstery on driver's side
    Air, auto, AM/FM cassette

    Thanks.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... I would kinda have to see this one .. miles are low for the year -- but, if the tires are waaay deep, the paint looks clean, shiny and shows 96ish.. and the interior shows newish and it runs like a champ .. plus, if there is no rust, no leftover damage from the lady down the street and the air blows north... then you should be "around" $1,5 on a trade -- if not, start deducting.

..... Miles are low, the color is right .. (dual air ..?) .. thank goodness you have both side doors.

Depending on the work that was done, it could hold ya back. I'm thinkin' around the ultra low $11's, high $10's.

    I hope this helps ...

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
..... The first thing is .. the friggin' miles. It will flat kill it, the second thing is (based on what you are telling us) .. it needs a few things, like tires.

The books can tell you anything u want to read, but the reality is .. that hi mileage vehicles are a dime a dozen, this one on a trade will see in and around $3,0/$3,5 on a trade ... maybe. So it looks like the dealers are trying hard to get your Biz, they have a big advantage on me, they can see it .. l.o.l..

Don't get your feelings hurt here, anyone can ask anything they want for their home or vehicle, that's why they are in the Ad's for 4/5/6 months and still own em'. My neighbor still has his base 99 GXE 69k Maxima on his driveway .. and can't figure out why he can't get someone to give him $14,900 for it ... Yeow!

    Terry :-(
  • emmonsemmons Member Posts: 3
Thank you for your response Terry. Yes, it has the dual air and it has headphone hookups in the rear. The reverse sensor is neat. I assume that your talking trade-in value, what do you think would be a fair selling price I should ask if I decide I want to sell it fast? It still has over 2 years left on the premium extended warranty. Thanks.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
... Good morning ..! it's about time you got out of bed .. l.o.l..

You have the back-up beep beep, the dual air, dual doors and low miles.

So, if you go down Retail rd, On a quick sale, I would ask $13,9 and grab $12,9/$13,5.

Good luck . . and let us know.

    Terry.

... Are you that famous actor ..?

Let's see here Mr. big actor .. lot's of miles on that bad boy, lot's of Vans for sale, thats a tough market. .. If it's like brand new, looks and drives like a 00 with 15k, then you might see $4,5, but I thinkin you are going to be more into the $3ish range .. maybe, sorry.

    Terry.
  • rroyce10rroyce10 Member Posts: 9,332
.... The miles are .. ok. The color is a big seller (I don't know why), and the Turbo is sought after ...

Anyway, if it is CLEAN inside and out, knee deep .. no dings, no kisses, no funny cigarette butts hangin' off the ashtray, you should be in and around that looow $13's, high $12's.

    Thanks for stoppin by ...

I have a 98 Hyundai accent. I realize it isn't the most desireable car on the road, but it has treated me well. It has 61K, white and pretty much your basic car, oh... it's an automatic with dual air bags and a cd player. And I would rate in "good" condition.

What could I expect from a dealer for a trade-in?

    Thank you.
  • emmonsemmons Member Posts: 3
The early bird gets the worm? I don't know I just like to get up and going in the morning. Per your advice this is the plan- I'll shoot for $11,200 on a trade-in, if I they won't give me that then, I'll put it up for sell at $13,900. If I trade can I get some money back on that warranty? I will not be trading at the same dealer I bought the van from. Thank you for your time.
  • boblibboblib Member Posts: 5
Thanks. Tires have 30,000 miles. They are okay for now but will need to be replaced before too long. So deduct 250-300 from 1500?

I just purchased a new 02 Saturn Vue 2-3 months ago. I didn't get the car I wanted, I got in a hurry and bought the Vue. I really wanted a 98 Mercedes ML320 with 60k and a 2yr Starmark warranty incl. We were leaving for vacation and I for some stupid reason chose the Saturn. I have NO complaints with the Vue- in fact it's a good car so far, but I am just sick that I did not buy my heart's desire. I am totally stuck, aren't I? What advice can you give me. I have 5k on the Vue. Thanks for listening...

Just to pre-empt Terry and/or Bill, please provide the following info, or you will be sent DI-WRECKLY to your room:

    2wd or 4wd?
    Engine and transmission types
    Color
    Trim level
Options (cloth or leather, alloys, power stuff, stereo type)
    Your location
    Bueller?......Anyone?
  • saturnvue1saturnvue1 Member Posts: 10
My Vue is 4 WD, 6cylinder-automatic. It is bright red with a small gold pinstripe. It has beige cloth interior - it has a cd player with aluminum alloy wheels. It has a luggage rack and the price was $23,600.

Most Saturns do not come from the factory with leather or moonroof, it is something you add on and they send it out to install these options with these being warranted by Saturn as if they came from factory. For leather and moonroof it would have been $2k extra. I was trying to keep cost low so I decided to add these later. Now I'm not sure that it is going to be beneficial with my situation.

I live in Nashville Tenn and bought it from the local Saturn dealership.
    Thanks

As she is now doing all the driving since my dad had some health problems which prevent him from driving. She is looking to trade in his 00 Corolla CE, 10k on the odo, silver w/gray interior, extremely clean inside and out. Local Toyota dealer offered $8,000 as trade in for a Matrix; their asking sticker for the Matrix. Now I know the Matrix is hot and in limited availability, but the $8k for her Corolla seemed low; what do you folks think?

The guys need added info from you:

    *Location
    *Auto or manual trans
*Options (AC? power goodies? CD player?)
*Any body damage or accident repairs?

The more detailed you can be the more accurate they can be.

The last one is gone, but I found another.

1991 RX-7 convertible, 5 speed, triple black, 72K. One owner, newish brakes, good tires. Represented as "mint" or some such. Haven't seen it yet, but if it is as clean as I was told, how much is fair private retail?

1996 VW Jetta GLS, 5-speed manual transmission, sunroof, suede silver exterior (tan), tan/gray cloth interior, 109,000 miles, no major problems, great engine, still gets avg. 32 mpg. Very clean. Diligent regular oil changes and routine maintenance. Greater Cleveland, OH area.

Was offered $3,000 for a trade-in on an Acura RSX type S. Is this reasonable? Blue book and all the sites I've checked say it's worth more. Should I sell it on my own??
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
$3000 does seem kinda low, but your miles are quite high, so they're not going to get a whole lot selling it on the lot. I'd probably put it in the local paper for like $5900 and take anywhere around $5k.

1996 Ford Contour LX. V6 automatic transmission with power everything except seats and 3 disc cd changer in dash. White with gray cloth interior. It only has 58000 miles. Regular oil changes and is in excellent condition mechanically. The paint is still in good-excellent condition with only a few minor dings in the paint that have been touched up. I'm expecting around $4000-4200. Is this reasonable?
