What do you think is a good price for a Certified Volvo S80 T6, 1999. I am in New Orleans and starting to look for one coming off lease with post 3/99 build dates and less than 36K mi. I want to get a certified one due to quality issues but I also know they are hard to move due to this fact. I read some posts were Volvo NA was offering 20-22K lease buyouts to current lesses. Can I expect that price range at the dealer for certified? Help please.

'92 Honda Prelude S coupe with automatic, A/C and spoiler. 166,000 miles. Sharp looking silver. Clean interior. AM/FM CD player. 2 years old tires. Clean title. Paint is in great shape and no rust. Engine light is sometimes on...checked with Mechanic...no problems...just old car. Expenisive to fix. Vehicle is located in upstate, NY.

    Trade-in vs. Retail?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hmm...

GS? LS? I'll assume GS as you said cloth.

Figure if it's the proverbial Baby Doll it's a $12K car across the block I should think, maybe a bit more even.

And a bit more too if it is an LS. So I think you got a fair price!

    Hmm..

Methinks t would do in the $14Ks right now as a 2WD, Maybe $15K to the right buyer.

    Terry? What think ye?

Bill the king of all Vauxhalls
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmm..

    Sounds like a $2Kish car to me..maybe $22/2300

If all else fails, I'd swing it by Roger at Breckenridge Motor Co on the rock rd in St John.

    He buys stuff like that...

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmm..

$3Kish is about what I am thinking. Well, you ARE in Los Angeles, and it IS an Integra.

But it IS a 5-speed and miley. Ergo, a "send to auction" unit for a Lexus store.

So maybe $3,500 to the right buyer.

Really I think $5,000 is cracksmoking territory as a trade. What's KBB thinking? I think I need some of what they are on! Sorry for the bad news.,. but that's a retail figure...

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmm...

    $9Kish (8700-9200). And that assumes 4WD.. it IS a 4x4, right?

In Virginia I hope so! :)

Miles are a spanker on this one I am afraid..

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
I talked to a used car manager, and he claims that there would be no difference to him if a vehicle has been wrecked or not, as long as it was put together well. I've never heard anyone else with that opinion...

Jeeez! Thank god he doesnt work for ME! And I am sure Terry would agree with me on this one!

You got a $6K smack here I think. Both rear quarters? Front end wackarama?

I bet they total it myself.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Pass on the first clowns. Sounds like they are jerking ya around.

    NEXT!

On to the 2002 2WD Navi.

Not a stupendous deal. Methinks it's a $32K wholesale piece so $35K oughta be all the retail cash.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
Nice trucks, and they do sell.

Yours has highish miles (If it were a 1998, it would have 100K at the rate you're going!). What, you live in Waukegan and work in Joliet? :)

Still, we got a $21,500-22K piece here I think. Trade it on an Odyssey...

Or ask $24,900 retail and dont take less than $24K or I'll send ya to your room! :)

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Umm..

How do I say this nicely... hmm..

High miles, previous bodywork (or "ppw" if you are VCI.. 10 bonus points to whoever decodes that!), a 2WD in UTAH (cringe), mechanical problems... oy.

$5K is reasonable. Might do $5500 etc... at an auction, but they'll net $5K after fees..etc.

Honestly it sounds like a "rough book" unit I am afraid.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
That private sale one sounds like a possible winner.. if you like the "Pimp Pack 2000" :)

$27,500 is what I'd tell ya to get out of it... maybe more.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
On the Jeep? $5,600 is fair enough.. It's pretty miley I am afraid.

2000 Stripper Jetta: $12K-12,500 on that ought to buy it. Probably a $10,500ish car across the block.

1999 GLS Stripper: It is priced right around wholesale I think. I bet it would still pull $10K++ at the block myself. Prolly closer to $11K.

The 99 is the very good deal, the 00 is just an average deal.

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Hmmm..

What I would do.. if I were you..

Is to be a "sneaky little bugger" and go get a set of matching USED tires with good tread for $100-150 installed. Heheheh...

Then get $6,500ish to as much as $7K on trade.

    Whatcha think Terry?

    Bill
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I was under the impression that all new-gen Jettas have power locks (GLs included) and the GLS has power windows as the main 'upgraded' feature over a GL.
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Well..

    Low-Mile T6s arent bad merchandise.

That's an easy $21K unit at the block, so figure with detail, certification costs ($800 or so) they got an easy $22K in it and I doubt they'd sell it for less than $24K-24,500 really..

    Bill
  • im_brentwoodim_brentwood Member Posts: 4,883
    Uh Oh.

    Megamiler with yellow glowing lights.

    $2Kish as a trade, but $3500-4K as a retail piece I bet.

Out of morbid curiousity, what would my Brick wholesale/retail for? I'm still staving off the 850 T-5R bug... :-)

Ebay has a '97 850T-5 featured today. Red, but it's an auto. and not an R. But it is a Volvo.

Saw it. :-) The T-5R is one of the very few cars I would break my "manual only" rule for.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,330
that credit union in Georgia seems to have some awfully old off-lease cars. Did have a nice looking 9-5 the other day, but up there in miles. At least it was no reserve, and they ship.

Only a real man would buy a hi-mile SAAB and see it for the first time when it rolled off a truck. Kind of like getting a mail order bride I imagine.

...SAABs? Inexplicably, I've become drawn to them. I'd like to get a wagon so I checked out the 9-5 Linear. Beautiful car, great interior. I have not spoken to any sales people yet. Lease deal offer is outstanding. I've never leased but am afraid to even consider buying since values drop faster than a Soprano rat!! I drove a co-workers 9-5 which he loves but B&M's about all the time it spends with Sven!!

I've also come across one dealer here in Boston who has about a dozen used wagons (asking close to $27K for 00 LOL LOL LOL) and another with literally almost one hundred 1-2 YO sedans all internet priced at call for details. Most of these (at both dealers) seem to be former rentals according to carfax, the CA plates on them, and tons of touristy type junk still in the cars.

Does SAAB sell so many to rental fleets? Why would I even consider 27K used when I can get a cap cost lease of just over 29K? Or can/should I negotiate a purchase down to 29K? Or is there a 12 stepper for idiots like me who think SAABs, Volvos and Jags are reliable?
  • bretfrazbretfraz Member Posts: 2,021
I'm a Saab guy and have an '00 9-5. In the first two years of ownership (or leasership to be precise) my repair costs have been lower than my previous Infiniti. The car hasn't been perfect but the dealer has taken care of everything in a timely manner. Like any premium European car, having a talented local independent mechanic and/or a good dealer is critical.

No question that Saab has improved the 9-5 since its intro in 1999. I know the current '02s are far better cars than mine. The lease deals are so good that unless you get a perfect used one, there's no sense in obtaining one anyway else.

I rent a lot of cars and cannot think of any agency that I've seen 9-5's at. And I'm talking nationwide. There may be local rental franchisees that can get them but that's about it. Hertz rents Volvos, Land Rovers, and Jaguars. I've never seen a Saab with them or Budget.

If you want to try on the Saab experience, then leasing's the way to go. Just remember you will be buried so deep in it that it will take an Act of Congress to get you out. But after driving it for a year or two, you might not even care.

I'm trading in a 95 Ram 1500 SLT, regular cab, short bed, 114,000 miles, good condition. Kelly's says it's worth $4035. What do you think?

I'm looking for a value on a '99 Nissan Altima GXE, Silver. In excellent condition, only I use the car, no kids. No mechanical problems ever. My lease buy-out amount is $9400, which seems high to me. If I buy it out, what price should I be looking for? Thanks

Good to hear from you again, glad to hear you had a good trip! I don't know, these guys in town don't like to let go of any used cars, I've been down this road before, and one reason I bought new for my sedan. I haven't had a chance to follow up on that private sale, but should have time this later today. This girl I work with has a friend that's a dlr in a rural part of the state about an hr from here, she claims he has a '99 Navi w/ low miles for $18,5

Hate to say it but that sounds pretty low to me, she's supposed to call me tomorrow w/ the details

By the way, anybody know why Edmunds whlsale/pvt party/retail prices went UP about $1800 for a 99 Navigator in the last week. I saved the base rates for the 99 Nav to a WORD document about a week ago, and now they're $1800 higher

** Sure is nice to have you back, I hope you had a good time at the Black Sabbath concert in England .. l.o.l.. I heard their new album last week "Vauxenslobbins Reign" .. sounded pretty good to me ... he he

..... $1,8 ..? Can't say where they get their figures at .. But, I can tell what a clean 99 with let's say, 30/35k, chromes, slider, 4WD might be worth .. might have $22/$23 in it, plus the stuff. $18 seems reeeaall low, unless it's a 2WD, then that would make more sense... maybe.

Food for thought here .. most of these dealers have had some of these vehicles in their inventories for probably 40/80/120+ days, depending on the dealer, the structure of the dealer and the players at the dealership.

Most SUV's are doing "around" $1,5/$2,0 less, than what they were doing in April/May .. some dealers won't take the loss from the vehicle that they traded for in May. They might feel, if they keep the vehicle til, let's say Nov, the weather might turn the vehicle because the prices will go up ..

The dealer down the street may have a whole different type of agenda .. they may feel, ok. we have had this bad boy and 6 others for 61 days and "nothing is going on with it", and it's time to cut em' from the herd .. 5/7 days later it gone off to the auction, lost $900 a vehicle, and they picked up some Sunbird Convertibles (or whatever) to replace em'.

Thats why it can be tough sometimes for a consumer like yourself and sometimes as tough for a Salesperson. -- I remember when I was a UC Mgr for a huge Chevy store and they dealer principle would tell us "there is no reason why we should loose money" .. But, if a customer came in on a 60/90/120+ unit and I saw "daylight" .. I mean 28cts, it was going bye bye, down the hiway, see yah, hasta la vista Baby .. I mean gone. He would loose his friggin' mind ..l.o.l...

What he would forget was, we were buried in the vehicle by $1,500, been there since Jesus was a baby, it was no sale green, etc - by the time we hit the auction, with the fee's, transport, a this and that, that was a negative $2,000 later --- but heaven Forbid, if we retailed that same unit, made $215.28, took a real nice trade in, and turned that in 2 days for $1,5+ positive ... that's why every Dealer is different... l.o.l.. Bill knows what I mean.

Hey, let us know ... and good luck!

    Terry.

PS .. Man, this was one long thread .. l.o.l..

I think you were just describing that Chebby dealership near me with the 95 Contour GL, handshaker, in no deal teal, power nothing, 75 klicks, that had an asking price of $6,9, according to CarFax it was traded in early fall 2001, and still sitting there in May 2002.

Oh well, I've decided to keep the Buick at least one more winter and put an exhaust gas driven air pump on my SVT

    Welcome back Bill.

I think you can rent them at Avis. Plus, when my brother went down to Florida couple years ago. He rented a Saab to drive around, and he couldn't stop commenting on how fast and how much fun to drive that car.

    ...... Ooooch, ouch .. I can't take the pain .. l.o.l. -- that is a perfect example, sounds like a $2,0 vehicle .. maybe.

I have a dealer friend in Wisconsin that I buy some Burbs and Vettes from, so when I was on my way to the Dells, I stopped to say hello.

He shows me this 86 Vette., 80k, this vehicle has hit everything But the lottery .. just a mess, re-paint at least twice, miss matched tires, leather is all gaffed up ..uuugh. -- I need $8,9 to break out of it, we have had it for a while... Pass.! -- When I was leaving, his brother tells me they have had it since Oct .. 2000, Gheeeeeez just say goodbye.! He hasn't had wives that long ..l.o.l..

Paint is in pretty good shape, with a few minor blemishes. I'm looking at a 02 Trailblazer LS. Thanks in advance!!!

.... You have posted before .. right ..?

Aren't you ever going to sell this thing .. l.o.l.? Right color, auto, so if it's a nice one, probably in and around the mid to high $10's or so on a trade (needs tires..?) ..

Found a used 2001 Tahoe LS, 22K miles, basically loaded with everything except leather and 3rd seat (on-star, moonroof, rear a/c, CD, etc). Been on the Lexus dealer's used lot for about a month. Possible deal tonight for $26,400. I'm in suburb of Chicago, does this sound like a fair deal? I think they may be tired of it sitting on their lot.

    Hi,

90 Honda Accord LX sedan auto
    103K miles
power windows and doors, sunroof, AM/FM cassette, A/C, metallic blue paint, remote-entry alarm
regularly serviced according to Honda guidelines – very reliable car, no major problems
    garage-kept, minor dings
    4 new Goodyear Integrity tires
    new floormats
    blue cloth interior, no tears
    needs headliner

I’m the second owner and live in Long Beach, CA. The headliner is cosmetic, but is it a good idea to replace it before I sell? I’ve been quoted around $179 for the work.

Kelly says sale value is $4080, trade-in $2775. Is trade-in a better option, considering the time spent trying to sell to a private party?

    Thanks!

I'm hurt, you travel right through my neck of the woods and you don't even call. Maybe next time I should tell you a steak and martini dinner are on me! Although in these parts beer and brats are probably more prevalent!! :) Oh well, next time you're headed to the Dells let me know and maybe we can try and hook up.

    Greetings all!

The car up for discussion is a dark green 1999 A6 Quattro Wagon w/ 36,160 miles. I would rate the overall condition as very good (clean as per Edmunds) but you can tell it is a used car (some wear on interior). Specifics and options (essentially everything except the 'warm weather' package):

    Brand new brakes and tires
    leather interior w/ heated seats
    CD changer
    3rd seat option
    retractable cargo net option
    power sunroof
    maintenance records available

I would like to know (obviously) what this traded in at (it is currently at a non-Audi dealer) and what I should reasonably expect to pay (I've done the Edmunds calcs already; looking for the human viewpoint)...

    Thanks all!
    Greg
