*A little more info about the condition other than "good". Paint condition (dings, dents, scratches?), interior condition (stains, tears, holes, Child War Zone, etc). If the truck looks a tad ratty then spending $150 on a professional detail job will reap benefits with the used car managers.

I had a feelin', that last price was too good to be true .. usually is.
I don't "think" they run that much for the 30k .. but IF it checks out front to back, then start em' up at $13 and see what happens .. but $13,9 is a good price.

Body in very good condition with a few minor blemishes(scratches)but no major door dings. A couple of chips on the windshield. Interior very clean, no holes, tears or stains. Last dealer to appraise vehicle stated the vehicle is very clean. Sticker price on this vehicle was over 30k when purchased.
thanks for the tips....i'm clearly new at this...on the 1997 Explorer XLT, engine is a V6, 2WD, located in Dallas, TX, black paint is slightly dull, interior is tan leather, tires have 35,000 miles on them, brakes replaced within the last year, Air conditioning replaced within the last year, one small dent on rear wheel cover from parking pole, not very noticable. plan on detailing interior,and a good wax before taking it in... carpet needs a shampoo, am considering replacing the torn console cover, but haven't gotten estimates yet.

both have roof, p/l, p/w, p/s, abs, etc. no leather in either.
Both are "Certified" so they come with 7/100k powertrain, and 1/12k bumper to bumper wty. I looked in both, and no "modifications" done to susp, exh, intake, etc. All VIN's are on body panels, interior is great on both. Exterior is petty good, normal kisses/scratches for a 3yr old car... would say it was clean-good more towards clean though... What do you think they got in 'em, and what are they worth... Thinkin' of offering 10k and expect about 11k on the 68k and try to get a timing change factored in... Lemme know what you think... gonna try to buy this week...thanks

I'm considering buying a new vehicle. My prospective trade-in would be:
1999 Honda Prelude Type SH
Mileage: 45,000 miles
2.2L VTEC 4-Cyl. 200 hp (Manual Trans.)
Exterior Color: Premium White
Interior Color: Black (cloth)
Location: Huntsville, Alabama
Condition: Excellent. No paint blemishes. No dents. Never involved in any sort of accident. 95% off the time the driver has been the only passenger in the car. Never eaten in. Never smoked in. No stains, tears, or holes in interior. It has been serviced by local Honda dealership meticulously according to Honda's maintenance schedule (every 3750 miles). All maintenance documented. Power steering pump, oil pan, and components of rear suspension have all been replaced in the past by local Honda dealership while under warranty; again, all documented. Car has not been driven "hard", and has truly been taken care of exceptionally well. Still has original tires, though they surprisingly don't appear as worn as one might expect.
Any insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

For whatever reason, a vehicle may go
"cold" ... it can be the nicest, cleanest, lowest mileage vehicle on the lot, but sometimes folks go blind to it .. But in this case, they are just asking waaay to much Jingle for this bad boy, so everyone will go blind .. l.o.l...

You gave me a trade in estimate on my 95 Explorer a couple of weeks ago. Now I am looking to pull the trigger on a new vehicle. I am looking at the Sequoia, Yukon, and Expedition, all 2003's. I keep coming back to the Sequoia but I can't seem to justify the roughly $3300 purchase price difference. I figure even with a 7yr, 100K extended warranty on the Yukon or Expedition the Sequoia would be about $1500 more expensive to purchase. For me it is also about an extra $500 per year more to insure. If I keep the vehicle seven years that is $3500 more just to insure it. I am reasonably certain that the Sequoia will be worth more seven years down the road but I have no idea how much more.
I know you guys say buy what you like but the fact is that at this point for me it boils down to reliability and cost of ownership. I'm sure I could be happy with any of the vehicles.
Any words of wisdom, oh sage one?
Do you think I would I ever recoup the difference?

I love the Yukons and have driven a bunch of em' .. great re-sale, folks aren't timid around a 50/70k Yukon -- But on the other hand, the Sequoia is one heck of a vehicle .. I drove one from Stuart to Philly last week and it's a Fat daddy, drives nice, looks good, smooooth ... Obviously, the resale will go to the Yota side, but the market will be a bunch larger on the Yukon side at sale time ...
Leave the Expedition at the lot .. now you have to decide on just 2 ...
The best thing you can do is .. drop your license at the dealers and drive both of em' for at least an hr or so .. bust some bugs on the hiways, neighborhoods, bumps and lumps and get the real deal feel of em' ......

Regarding your Expedition comment: Is that based on reliability, resale, or your opinion of the vehicle? I never drove a 2002 but the 2003 is darn nice. Obviously I still have nagging doubts, otherwise I would have pulled the trigger by now.
The Lt. Blue Integra w/ 78k and Certified 1/12 b2b and 7/100 powertrain we ended up passing. They offered 11k and they would repaint the front bumper due to nicks and stuff...
Oh well, the hunt continues...
On the bright side, at least we know the qualifies for AH 4.99% 60 mo financing. =o)
Wouldn't have been a bad deal, except it took us about an hour to convince the sales guy that a 12k(initial) at 4.99 for 60mos didn't add up to 275/mo... the finally admitted in "factoring in" a 7/100 b2b for $1600 and a few other back end products... errrrgh.
We ended up walking on our morals because we didn't like the way we were being treated, and the final offer came as we were leaving...
Really is disturbing when someone tells you that it all adds up, then backpedals when he comes back... =o(
Before meeting some of the people here, I wouldn't have been so irritated, but I am because I know that he does not "have" to be like that.
BTW, carfax documents showed it had been bought at an auction, was originally titled in TX, and it had a 3k odometer rollback.. ?? Too bad, I liked it, the GF hated the way we were treated so we walked.
Ok, we have a 2WD with blue and grey .. it's an SLT, we got 60k, we have the leather and all the stuff ...
It sounds like it may need a little stuff here and there .. so here's the deal, the color, the miles and it's a 2WD, none of these are working for you here .. on a trade, in and around the $10's depending on the dealer... sorry.

I don't know. That's the reason I haven't pulled the trigger on the Expedition. I really like the vehicle, but owning a 95 Explorer that took a beating with the Firestone fiasco, I am very sensitive to resale value. I know a vehicle is not an investment, but I would prefer that it depreciate as little as comparable vehicles.
Additionally Ford's reputation on the reliability front has not been stellar lately. However, other than routine maintenance, in 80K miles I have only had to put in a thermostat in the Explorer. So I struggle with reputation vs. my real world experience. I would be very PO'd if I bought a $40K vehicle and it ended up in the shop all the time.
The GM and Toyota just seem like safer bets. If the Expedition was made by Toyota, it would be a slam dunk.
I'm an engineer so I tend to over analyze everything.

I am considering buying a 1995 Audi A6 Wagon with 72k miles in California. It's black with tan leather interior has a Bose sound system, sunroof, electric seats and memory on the drivers side, third row seat, and a cd changer. The seller has all maintenance records and receipts and is the first owner. He's asking $10,000.
As background, we've been looking at 99 Volvo Wagons and considering paying between 19 and 23k depending on options. We could buy the audi with no payments, but I'm a bit worried about the maintenance costs or it dying soon after purchasing it. Is a 95 just too old to spend $10,000 on?

The maintenance costs you're likely to see from an older Audi might very well equal a car payment. With a '99 or 2000 Volvo, you'll have some factory warranty remaining, plus the availability of an extended warranty.
p.s. if you're careful with options, $23k will also buy a brand new Passat wagon.
Not being able to see it (no Quattro .. right.?) .. I think the price is a little on the high side .. the miles are ok for the year, if the history is fine and the maintenance is 110%, then this could be a good buy .. but not at $10,0. I have a feelin' this guy tried to trade it, got $6/$6,5 and is trying to sell it outright, which is good business.
On the retail side, I think $8,5/$9,0 would be All the money and then some .. fair for both .!
But I do hafta say, Volvo's have always been one of my favorites.

A 3k difference on Carfax .? I have a feelin' it's a typo from somewhere, title mishap, emissions test, state flunky hittin' the keys wrong, etc, etc. -- A 3k mileage difference isn't worth it for anybody .. 30k, Yup.

The 4x4 vs 4x2 may be about 1,0 in diff.
AT vs. MT may be another 1,0 in diff.
Assuming an AT, here are the numbers I'm pulling.
4x4 ave cond. trade high 6,0 retail high 8,0
4x2 ave cond. trade high 5,0 retail high 7,0
Hopefully terry can give you a more accurate number.

It's a loaded up XLT, with fair black paint and it has you know what, too many miles .. uuugh, but it does have new air and brakes, but it still has all those klicks.
Sooooo, on a trade you are lookin' at somewhere around $3,0 depending on the dealer .. again, depending on the dealer, they will clean it up and take it to the auction.

Lexus builds some wonderful vehicles - but, the IS300 isn't burning down any bridges right now and they are runnin' a little cold on the market ..
$26 is a fair asking price for the seller .. but a figure "around" $24 and some change, would be fair to both you and the seller .. I don't feel he will see $26, not when the dealer has offered him $22 or so on trade.

I bought a 2002 Jaguar X-type 2.5 Sport back in Feb of this year...all options except navigation and it's in beautiful condition, but has 18k hwy on it. I've driven SUV's for the past 10 years and thought this would be a refreshing change. I was wrong and want to get back in a SUV. I'm thinking of selling/trading, but what route should I go? I can't get BB trade-in values because the car is so new. Would I be better off sitting on it for a couple years?

There is a lot up the street from my house (I live in a western suburb of Chicago) where they have literally 10s of millions of dollars worth of late model high-end cars. A few G-Wagons, an H2 or two, dozens of MB sedans & coupes, dozens of Porsches, BMWs, Bentleys, Ferrari(s), Lotus...
They have a few Jag convertibles, maybe one or two hardtop coupes. But I've seen NO jag sedans, X-type, S-type, or Vandenplas.
Question one, how does this FINANCE this huge inventory? My personal favortie theory is drug money, but that seems too obvious...
Other question (and more to the point) how 'out numbered' are the Jag sedans in the luxury car market? Do they sell better in other regions?
