Pioneer CD-SR1 steering wheel control which has controls for voice, bluetooth and mode as well.
means? What is this used for? Please help, so I can ask the installer to put it in if it is needed.
If I answer the phone, can the kids keep watching their movie?
Thanks
If the kids are listening to the movie through the car speakers, the audio will be reduced by 30db (user configurable). If they are listening through the headphones (if you have separate DVD system - ceiling mount or headrest), their audio should not be affected. Either way, the movie still continues to play.
Any help would be appreciated
Ron
BTW..Dealer service here is very good but it comes at a cost that substantially higher than in the states.
Thanks,
Dan
Anyone know?
Good luck with everything.

BTW, we chose to install the Pioneer AVIC Z1 with bluetooth, and we love it, and it fits into the same spot as the factory install, and has a 30GB hard drive to store all of your music files in a library. Just a thought.
We purchased the 05 NAV RES in December 04 before I knew anything about handsfree bluetooth, with integration.
I have a Garman Nuvi 660 to travel with and LOVE the features. Sounds like the AVIC Z1 is similar, yet with all the advantages of a "built in" system. I have looked at that unit for my 01 Avalon. I am in the process of looking at a replacement vechicle for the Avalon and I love the Avalon's however the factory NAV is not great.
The AVIC Z1 is a real option for me for the Avalon. I may just purchase an Avalon without the NAV and install the Z1. Can you recomend any competitors of the AVIC Z1 as a possibility for this application?
I do have a Parrot for my 2001 Avalon and have loved it. Works great. Sounds good. I recommend them.
I mainly was just asking if there is an alternative to the AVIC's that I should look at. Eclipse or Kenwood, or is the AVIC the best thing out there??
Hope this helps.
You can find the MOTO unit for as little as $180 shipped to your door and you won't regret it. Easy to install...only 3 wires and the quality is excellent.
During the Thanksgiving Holidays, we drove to her sisters in a remote part of NC. When we left the main highway and turned onto a secondary road, the GPS system would not display the current road names, and stopped giving us directions. I think the voice said something about undocumented streets.
Upon leaving her sisters, we told the unit to go home, and again it would not guide us over the back roads. It would only point a straight line to the main highway. Again the screen would not show street names even though the streets were shown on the map.
Has anyone else experienced this? I have a cheap Garmin that has no trouble with backroads at all, and I would expect a very expensive unit like is in the Honda to be able to handle back roads.

AFter a few frustrating days of ownership, I went to Best Buy & checked out the aftermarket units to see if I was crazy. Much, much easier to use & way more destinations. As you type, destinations start popping up unlike the Honda where you need to type the destination + city + state + still doesn't find. For example, if you type Wal Mart in the Honda Nav it will list stores 800 miles away. The aftermarket ones are "smart" and list stores that are close to your location.
My wife doesn't use our NAV, she said it "never finds what I want". i.e. stores, restaurants, etc.
You might also check, there's some setting having to deal with unverified routes (probably what you were getting). I believe I had to change a setting to allow unverified routing which essentially shows you roads that have no name. We live in the boonies so 90% of my local area is unverified, but it still shows the roads on the map but without names. There's even some "roads" that aren't even roads, just cow paths but they're on the map. I also had to turn the voice-prompts off, that chick talks too much for me :P
After paying so much for a vehicle with Nav, now we have to purchase a $200 unit to use when we encounter an unverified route. In rural NC, a lot of the roads are unverified, and it is a shame that a $200 GPS unit will give you directions across all roads, but a much more sophisticated unit in a Honda will not.
Honda really dropped the ball on this one.

IMO the Honda NAV is overated compared to the aftermarket handheld units.
Go to Best Buy and try one out for yourself...they are much more smarter & user friendly. The units are intuitive enough to know that you are searching for the nearest destination....not one 500 miles away.
But I agree, the OEM system is not as good as many aftermarkets (my 5yr old Garmin....) but it's integrated so nice that you can't beat it in that regard. But it does take a lot of monkeying to get what you want, and many POI's are absent. What's really sad is that the Honda system is actually quite good compared to many other OEM systems (my wife's Lexus system is far worse).
Thanks for any help you (or anyone) could give me.

I can't compare it with the Toyota system myself but many others who have had both say that the Honda setup is much better.

I just got back from the dealer who finally REPAIRED the exact same problem!!! If not for Dave's post and a call to Alpine tech support where the first question was, Did you just have transmission work done? I would not have kept pressing the dealer who insisted they did nothing to the navi system when replacing the transmission two weeks ago. In my case the problem was that the antenna wire for the GPS was pinched between the console and bracket. The service manager thought perhaps some of the motion putting in the transmission jostled the antenna wire and it became pinched. I had to press very hard, calling Honda USA, and leaning hard on the dealer after they said I needed a new Navi system. With the heat turned the service manager then put his best technician on it this morning and it is now fine!! BTW, the transmission replacement was covered under the extension of the warrantee by Honda because of the problems they had with this transmission. Hope this helps.

Any other input on the Odyssey nav system would be greatly appreciated. (Or on the Toyota Sienna nav system!)
The NAV will estimate travel time & distance based on a selected destination.
Hope that helps. I think the Honda NAV's are pretty low tech compared to the handheld Garmin, TomTom, etc. Try one out at your local electronic store...they are very intuitive & user friendly unlike the Honda NAV.
Any other input on the Odyssey NAV system would be greatly appreciated. (Or any info on the Toyota Sienna NAV system!)
is there anyway of changing the language or system? or should i just pull the thing out and put in a cd player?
What happens is that after entering 6 digits, the system mistakenly enters a " DASH " which renders the number useless.
Has anyone else encountered this problem ?
Does anyone know if disconnecting power temporarily can fix Nav system glitches.?
Does anyone know if a DVD update can fix this type of problem ?
Thanks
It sounds like it's time for a trip to dealer for warranty work. If an update can fix, let Honda pay for it. Battery disconnection certainly can't hurt but I wouldn't hold my breathe.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Because
It is much cheaper
the POI points of interest are more up to date.
Garmin is one year old and the oddy is the latest issue out.
Much easer to operate.
Garmin lets you update your software for free.
Oddy will cost $190 to get a new map and software.
My garmin does not lock up like the Oddy.
Garmin has back roads listed like regular roads.
Oddy keep telling me the roads are not verfied.
I think you will be happy with a stand alone unit.
The Oddy has the black disk.
Had to go to the dealer and he got the serial number off the Nav CD-rom player and called the honda Co. and they gave me the PIN the other owner had.
I cant change the pin and cant get rid of the previous owners address.
Got the latest disk but i still needed the pin. and also if the battery is removed the pin must be reentered.
The Nav system is made be Alpine and is not up to date POI
as my Garmin
go to personal address/ enter pin/ select new address/
enter address/ save.
most of the problems can be worked around except
the back roads and roads that are not state or National which are not verified.
Anyone else have it work "auto-magically"?
I have 2006 Ody Touring with NAV.
