Who do some of you guys/gals think this car is marketed to? It's not aimed at adolescents who think a mitusbushi eclipse is a hot looking car. i'm saving judgment until i see some better pictures, but me thinks its looks better than the current car. that's not saying much though.
No way. I say, yes, absolutely Hands Down, the 98-02 Accord beat the 97-01 Camry interior in every way. Not so the 2002 Camry. The gauge illumination at night is outstanding, the controls are soft touch electronic, the upper dash is a richer color, contrasting to the lower dash, and the steering wheel has a classy chrome logo instead of molded plastic. The Altima is a different story. The only real problem I have with the current Accord is the amount of black plastic surrounding the HVAC/Radio.
That said, I'm not too fond of the rear end styling of the new Accord, it looks inflated and droopy. I do like the new front end, though. Perhaps it will grow on me in time, but I think our 02 Camry LE with alloy wheels is much more attractive overall, as is the Altima... though I dont feel its boy racer tailights fit the intention of the car as a family midsizer. Class leader in the looks dept: Mazda 6. Pretty decent interior, too.
But of course, there's much more to a car than styling. Anyone have confirmation on engines and output?

What Honda means about "radical change" is going to be under the skin - word has it that they have at last achieved Camry-like refinement levels, without losing the better handling and engine performance that has always given them a slight edge. If this is true, then the conservative sheet metal will mean absolutely nothing in the marketplace - less than nothing. And all of you who need a more "radical" look can find it in plenty of other places in the market right now....for me, the car looks fine, more or less how I expected it to look, and the next big question is how it drives. That was always the most important question all along...

j_walker- Have you seen the spy pic of the Accord coupe? There's a very overt Mercedes resemblance on that one.
On the Civic taillights, you're right the lenses do make a difference. But, I also don't like the way the current car's cut into the top of the trunk rather abruptly.
What the heck is up with BMW and Honda these days on styling?!
That's where the Civic and RSX come in.
Hey, my 21 year old sister just bought an 02 Accord SE coupe - she likes the looks (as do I).. not so much with the 03.
There is much to be said for syling - I do not agree with some previous posts that say the exterior styling doesn't matter. I would say in the short run this may be somewhat true - as the diehard loyalists and those only seeking a comfy/quiet ride will enjoy it. But, the impression this leaves on those looking for cars will not be good if one take into account the exterior. Look around, I think it's fair to say most people DO care about what their ride looks like. They care about their clothes and stuff, right?
BTW - I'm 31, had a GS-R and currently drive a Mazda Protege5. I have loved hondas since the mid 80's (cuz they were sporty looking/handling) but I guess that's starting to change. First no Prelude, then bland civic, now bland accord :-(
Looks like I too will be looking into the 6.
Go check out mazdausa.com -- a lot of new pics of the 6 :-))))
I am sure the interior will be the best thing about Honda, i bet my .02 cents on that. And hopefully, the interior is also as quiet as the new camries. If that is the case, honda has a new winner in their hands. Not necessarily that the people here will buy though because there has been concensus that it's ugly. At least with the guys here....
you wouldn't want to put a wager on that?
I have a hunch a lot of this whining about the car's styling is coming from people who can't afford the car anyway. me thinks this car looks better than any of the earlier accords with the exception of the ones with the bug lights. those cars looked good at the time. then again, i'm becoming an old fart.
I will put a wager that this new accord will be a better seller than the current one.
OK guys, put your money where you mouth is...
Looks too tall, but then, everything today looks too tall to me. Current fad: sedans replacing minivans in all but name.
It'll sell. Hondoids have never been all that demanding when it comes to style. They have other priorities and Honda knows it. If Toyota can rack up records with that eyesore called Camry, this'un will do just fine.
I like the handles, FWIW.
BTW, the coupe looks a bit more promising to me...
Our family bought our Accord because we were won over by the interior quality, the size, the power, and the price (it was a demo version - no major problems). The looks were only part of the equation.
Instead, we get what appears to me to be a poor imitation of a Saturn. We'll all have our opinions about the new Accord, but count me among the very disappointed.
I can sympathize up to a point if you were expecting something you didn't get, but just WHY those expectations were there in the first place is the big mystery to me.
A suggestion: wait until December or January, and take the time to drive the car against its marketplace competitors, including the Mazda 6. I am expecting that both the 4 and the 6cyl Accords are going to reset the parameters for this class of car. If I'm wrong, they won't get my money, but it sure won't be because I think the car doesn't look right...I think it is just fine, and if that's a minority view, well...

I wouldn't be so hasty in judging the new accord, especially that none of us have really seen it personally. The finer details are what makes a car desirable or thrashable.
OTOH, put a pic of the Accord next to a pic of the Camry and there's not a lot of separation, IMO. Now put it next to a pic of the 6, and there's quite a departure. At this point, if a FWD family sedan were in my sights, the 6 is getting the nod.
But, as Wolverine points out, driving is the telling factor. No way to decide 'til then.
Based on the pics, though...
But if you're power-hungry and need the stick, then you'd have to wait and see.
