Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
@oldfarmer50 We had that happen on our ranch a few times in the years we lived there. This was back in the 1980s. Oddly, I never once saw a person, but twice we saw the mangled carnage of the vehicle, and once the person was able to drive all the way through our field, opened the gate (and left it open), and drove away.I should be used to it by now. We’ve had a motorcycle fly off the turn and land in the driveway. We’ve had a kid transporting for a car dealer take down a half dozen trees adjacent to the current ones when they were all a lot smaller (I had finally gotten around to planting some shrubs in the gap the week before this happened). I’ve lost count of the mailboxes knocked down or cars that slid off the road.
I’m just getting too old for this stuff. Maybe I should build tank traps by the road. 🤣

Re: Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous
Mazda used to have a lot of cool stuff. The whole Mazdaspeed line, wagons available with a stick, cool 5 door hatches with a turbo and stick, 323 GTX, MX-6 GT.
But the market speaks and people just don’t buy those cool cars so why make them?

Re: Mystery car pix
Other than the cars, I don't think the Radium Hot Springs photo would look too much different today.

I've never been a fan of Previa's since this happened to us.Ouch. But, I would have much rather been in the Expedition than the Previa in that crash!
Wrong way Previa driver on I-95 in Maryland.

Re: I spotted an (insert obscure car name here) classic car today!
It had to be an E28. I don't think the 533i ever applied to any other 5-series modelWhen I was a senior in HS in 1982, my then GF's dad drove a 533i. I always thought it was an E28, but now I'm not sure. His was a stick shift, that I do remember, and he used to tow his three-quarter midget racer behind it. Took it to Ascot raceway in Gardena a couple of times.also, in my neighborhood a black BMW I have seen parked in the back was out on a driveway. 1980s I think (maybe early 90s) 533i with the center exhaust. Back when they were moderate sized and cleanly styled! Not positive, but I think the generation prior to the original M5In the US the E28 was sold from 1983-1988. Models offered were the 528e, 533i, 535i, 535is, 524td and the M5.
edit: did a google. was an E28, offered in the 1983 and 1984 MYs, and also was the first model range that had an M5.

@oldfarmer50,
it could have been worse. They could have decided they needed a replacement vehicle from the nearest opportunity.

Re: Edmunds Members - Cars and Conversations
I had a little bit of excitement last week. I was woken by the town police because a white Nissan Frontier had failed to make the turn and flew off into several large trees on my lawn, knocking one over and damaging the second. He ended up hung up in the guy wires of the telephone pole.
I finally got the police report and they hit him up for DWI, DWI over .08%, aggravated unlicensed operation, no insurance, open container and failure to keep right. The no insurance and the fact that he was an undocumented migrant means I’ll be doing my own clean up work and paying for any replacement trees. I suspect he won’t even show up for court so small claims is out. I suppose I could file a claim with my homeowners insurance and then see it go up by double the payout.
Sometimes it doesn’t pay to get out of bed.

On a similar topic, I took the Explorer in for service today, oil change and tire rotation.
Had a coupon for $10 off on 'The Works'.
Took them a while, way past my appointment time to get to it.
Once they bought it in, a guy came out, called my name and showed me engine and cabin air filters that were pretty dirty. Were they actually mine, who knows?
$110 to replace them both. Since I was there, I said to replace them.
Also, they tested the battery.
I had just about enough points to cover everything. Usually, I replace the filters myself.
Ended up owning about $15 but the same guy who showed me the filters pointed out an additional online $20 rebate.
Driving home, I couldn't believe how much smoother and quieter it ran, so much so that I missed the first and second turns to get back home.
@sda,
It looks like those tires are the rim protector design which is a good tire feature.

The C43's COMAND system is no more difficult to master than the system in the Wrangler. Both systems provide physical switches or buttons to operate most frequently used functions. The main difference with the C43 is that COMAND provides 3 or 4 different ways to access most functions. You can go down a rabbit hole exploring the submenus but that doesn't affect the day to day use of the system.
Re: Chronic Car Buyers Anonymous
I really liked Mazda. At one point I had a 96 Millenia as my daily and a 92 Miata as my fun car. They were enjoyable cars and a pleasure to own. And, yes, the Miata was a stick.
