Apparently, "sand bathing" is normal gerbil behavior:

    http://home.wtal.de/ehr/gerbils/behavior.htm

I think that's what Apache is going right now.

Thanks for the insight Steve. I know it would be a change, and as the saying goes "change is good". We'll have to see. If we do decide to go for it, I will let you know.

I know people have said it before, but this Subaru Crew is a a great place to meet and "talk" with a diverse, great group of people. And all from the result of a love of a certain type of car:-).

Maybe they had to close the Apache server bridge due to high winds ;-)

Boy, this really looks bad for those of us who were singing the praises of UNIX/Linux last week.....

Saw your post the other day about Soccer at the Beekman Fields. You were 1.4 miles from my house!

They are coming along well, considering they graded and seeded the last week of March this year, and we started playing on it in mid April. I wish I could get grass that nice in such a short time! Unfortunately, as you found out, it is also a wind tunnel. It can be calm and warm at my place, but we have learned to add an extra layer of clothing when we play there.

Uhhh....there is no update. Just thought I'd pass on that the "clueless" status is still being maintained.

I wonder if GenROLL Chow aka Hypov, had anything to do with the Apache server???

    -mike

PS: GenROLL are you meeting up at my place or the shop tonight?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think Apache the Gerbil just wanted a little attention. I see we're back to normal now.

Time for another one. Taking Sandy to the beach again, Bethany Beach DE. Picked the worst possible windy/cold weekend for it, too.

We still like to get out of town and see our friends, so it should be fun. Anybody else going anywhere (besides hypov)? :-)

Should help me keep my streak alive - 8 tanks now at 26mpg or better.

I don't read posts for 2 days and there are almost more than SIXTY posts in the meet the members board alone???

I missed chat because I got so sick yesterday morning that I left work at lunch, came home and got in bed and stayed there from 12:30 yesterday until about 2 this afternoon ... fever, aches, cough, chills .. does it sound like flu?
  • hammersleyhammersley Member Posts: 684
Yes, Brenda, it sounds like the flu.

The unofficial Subaru Crew paramedic prescribes the following: rest in a favorite comfy place, Tylenol for the aches & fever, fluids (and more fluids), a nap or two in-between catching up on your sleep (and going potty from all those fluids!)

Take care of yourself, treat yourself well!

Cheers! (and a virtual get-well card)

Hope you feel better soon. Sure does sound like the flu.

I had been wondering what had happened to my ill-fated 2002 WRX wagon. The sales guy had told me on Oct. 1 when I picked up my 2003 WRX sedan that it would go to the auto auction immediately. I wondered if they would do repairs on it before they sent it there. After all they had a whole new transmission on order and the clutch was acting up when I unloaded it. A week later it was still there, parked just outside the service department. I drove through their lot today and there it was, still parked outside the service department. It has a nice large dent in one of the back doors that it did not have when I owned it. I wonder what they are going to do with it?

and offered it to me at 4% over invoice. What a deal!
  • subearusubearu Member Posts: 3,613
...you don't have a membership with IMBA or the like to get the VIP pricing (invoice). I wonder how they'd backpedal their absurd pricing on the 'old'er WRX?

So, is the dw ok with the upcoming purchase? Will you let her drive it? ;-) Do you need to make sure a music instrument fits?

  • lucien2lucien2 Member Posts: 2,984
After acting like I'd got the wrong place and me telling them I simply wanted to see if it fit in a car, they let me try it out. Fits fine, with the scroll juuust resting on the armrest. Makes contact with my elbow when shifting, but at least there is room for another person in the front seat, unlike my current situation.

Wifey will certainly get to drive it, and has signed off on the acquisition. I put the GT up for sale over on NASIOC, and I'll probably do it with autotrader too. asking $8995 for it.

Did I mention the silly offers that came in on those 2003s? That settled the 03/04 debate pretty quickly...now the only question is: WRB or Platinum Silver? WRB makes a statement against all the bland car colors out there (as does Sonic Yellow. Oh well), but silver is what I have now and would be a nice transition. Plus, check out the Edmunds page on the wagon, it's silver with the 17" forged wheels, it looks great.
  • bluesubiebluesubie Member Posts: 3,497
As much as I love WRB and black, I now believe it's best to try to blend in with other cars as much as possible.

    -Dennis
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
My practical side says silver, my wild side says WRB because it's just the way it should be.

    -juice
  • subarusaleshousubarusaleshou Member Posts: 161
As much as I should be sensible and say another color when you are talking WRX in any variation it just has to be WRB. There's no other true color for it.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
I'd favor white, silver, then blue in that order. But that's just me. Really tired of black, that's for sure!

    -c
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
White, silver, and blue are good because there are lots of pre-painted bolt-on parts available from Subaru (painted skirts, body kits, STi doo-dads, etc....). Had I known that, I would not have gotten Sedona Red even though I love the color itself. The new red for 04 is way to flashy.

I vote for silver. As a nabisco reader, you probably know that the WRX paint is not very robust. Silver is a great color for hiding chips, scratches, etc... as the years pile on. Blue would be the worst, white somewhere in between. Black would be ulcer-inducing if you're really picky. Silver also hides dirt extremely well. I have to remember to wash my wife's silver forester because you just can't tell when it's dirty.

I was actually looking for a silver WRX when I bought my 03. That color seemed to really go nicely with all the features and accents on the 03 front end. About the same for 04.

    Silver all the way!

You are defintely a true masochist to own a black car in dusty Kansas:-)

      Cheers Pat.
  • subarusaleshousubarusaleshou Member Posts: 161
Silver is definitely the sensible color but somehow when talking WRX and especially STi it just doesn't seem quite right unless it's blue. If/when I get one my colors would be blue, silver, black then white.
  • locke2clocke2c Member Posts: 5,038
actually I don't know that there is a good color for this, perhaps black. that's because the plastic bits on the front will chip worse than the hood and they are black underneath. so white and silver will both show chips very badly, and blue a little less so.

if I buy a new Legacy it'll get the 3M stoneguard treatment.

    -Colin
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Stoneguard works well, but I know a couple of people who got chips right through it, and that makes a real mess. I put some on my LL Bean, and promptly got a chip 1" from the edge of the Stoneguard along with a matching windshield crater. I bought the hood deflector after that, and it seems to do a better job protecting the hood and windshield. The downside is that hood deflectors are kind of ugly, and I would not put one on a sports car.

On the WRX, I get a lot of chips on the front fender bulge and a couple on the hood. So far, none on the plastic. I may put on Stoneguard, just not sure yet.

But it's painted! I told ya I'd buy a Subie that had full surface cladding instead of sheet metal.

My wife would put me in a straight jacket tho.

Sonic Yelloooooowwww is the only true WRXXX color. It makes me go so fast there is a sonic boom generated. Plus the color is invisble to police radar. Also I moolight as a cabbie in the nightime and drive children to school in the daytime. I have a little stopsign that pops out to stop traffic.

I'm thinking of painting black stripes on it and doing scientific research to see if bumblebees will follow me.

I think that when you live or work in or around Manhattan, you tend to find yellow cars amusing. Years ago, you wouldn't even dream of getting a bright yellow car. But even now, I equate yellow with taxicab, and I think of all those people who just had to have the car now, and got suckered into taking the yellow one.

Sorry to you yellow car owners...:-(

Ha, I have had some fun setting off everyone's deep inner feelings about yellow cars. Now the reality. I could have gotten a WR BLUE one instead. At the time I made the deal to get the Sonic Boom they also had a wr blue 2003. However in the infinite wisdom of my favorite car dealer they had "improved" it. It had leather interior (OK),17" chrome wheels (YUCK), and a silver flame style decal set on the side (YUCK). I could have had the wheels exchanged and the decals removed but the dealer would have wanted more for the car because of the leather. So the Sonic was cheaper (I know where you can still get a very special wr blue/chrome wheels/leather/silver decal 2003 sedan) and strangely enough (true confession) I actually wanted the yellow. The wr blue would have been the 3rd wr blue car in sucession in my driveway. Before the wr blue 2002 wagon Susan had a 1998 wr blue RS. So the yellow is a change of pace--oh by the way I know where you can get a "preowned" 2002 wr blue wagon.

www.wrc.com is reporting that Burns has a kind of brain tumor and will miss the entire 2004 season at a minimum while he undergoes radiation therapy. McRae may indeed be headed back to Subaru. Sorry if I missed this, but I think the WRC announcement is dated today.

Hey Bruce, if you like your yellow WRX, then that's all that matters!

Around NYC I see a ton of yellow H2's on the road. I always wonder if they're cheaper than other colors. Or, I imagine the guy who just has to have that H2 now or he'll die. He goes to the dealer and sees a sea of yellow H2's. He hates the color, but since he can't wait he gets it anyway. Bright yellow seems to be a weird color for a big, brute truck, though.

Jon, a "ton" of Hummers? Isn't that "tons per Hummer"? While I am at it I might as well dis Hummers. You would think every dealer locally is a Hummer dealer. Ever since this summer nearly every brand of car dealer has one on the used lot. I think people keep them a week or two until they fill them up for the first time.

Hey, I *like* Hostess Orange Cupcakes! ;-)

Cabs in Montgomery County, MD are light blue. Go figure. In DC they are all kinds of colors, Orange, Black, Yellow, you name it.

Let the people keep buying Hummers, it helps the economy, and they're paying for Colin's pension fund!

    Wishing Burnsie a quick recovery...
