Got an offer for an 07 RAV4 2X2 base model, (List Price $22,163) of $20,495. This is the second place we have tried and the offer is about $800 better than the last one. Is this as good as we are going to get or can we do better?

Buying in New Jersey. Thanks for your input.

Hi All, I got my rav4 last month, and ever since then, I've been using "4" position for my daily driving. It's been 2000 miles already, and I just had a chance read my manual, and it says it's better using "D" position all the time.

I m really worried if this "4" position thing really hurt the engine or hopefully not at all. Please advice please.

    thank you all very much

supertortz.....There are very, very few 06s anywhere in the country. If you could find one, it would probably save you $400-$500 up front but you would lose most or may all of it when you want to sell the car, i.e., in five years an 06 will be worth hundreds less than an 07. To find out if you are getting a good deal, I suggest you check out www.fitzmall.com. When you get to that site, click on the Toyota icon. This brings up a page with all the Toyota models. Select Toyota RAV4 and click on Go. This will bring up their RAV4 inventory. Right now, it lists 35 vehicles. There is a box near the top of the page that says, "Display results by." Click the little arrow to the right of the box and then click on "MSRP." The resulting pages will show their inventory sorted be MSRP. Today, the MSRP range is from $22,200 to $29,200. The delivered internet price listed is the price they are asking for the vehicle. You will need to add your local charges like taxes, title fees, and registration to get the OTD price. What I suggest is to find out the MSRP of the vehicle you are interested in. Then, find a vehicle with a similar MSRP at the fitzmall site. See what fitzmall is asking for a vehicle with the same MSRP. If you can get close to the fitzmall price, you've got a good deal. Good luck.

jasondo.....the only thing it would have hurt would be your mileage. I wouldn't worry about it in the least.

I would say aim for fitzmall prices or a couple of hundred
    bucks lower.

Toyota's website shows that the following features are *optional* on all trim levels of the 4x4 models:
    - Electronic On-Demand 4WD with 4WD manual lock switch
    - Hill Start Assist Control
    - Downhill Assist Control

Are these really optional items as the e-brochure suggests? I don't see any place in the "Price With Options" configurator on either Toyota's site or here on Edmunds where you can opt-in (or out) of them. Obviously if I buy the 4WD version, I wouldn't want these things left out.

Toyota of Weymouth gave me a MSRP $668 more than the Total MSRP (incl Destination) in Toyota site. I thought MSRP doesn’t change; Can Dealers fix their own MSRP?

Is there anyone in MA who got it at Invoice price or close to it? Is $200 to $400 above invoice a reasonable deal or can we get a better price using Costco Auto Program?

    Would appreciate your feedback. Thanks.
  • javatechiejavatechie Member Posts: 11
Did you buy any extras? For 4Cyl Base 4x4 with 3rd row seating the MSRP is only $23,835.

If you you had got $2057-$200(Doc fee)=$1857 less than MSRP it is an excellent price.

By the way what was the edmunds invoice price?

Base model, 2WD, 4-cyl, with 17-in wheels/full-size spare, roof rails, daytime running lights, carpet/cargo mats and mudguards for $20,495 (before tax).

It looks like it's over $300 less than invoice (but I'm not sure).

My experience is that it is possible to get RAV4 around
200-400 above invoice price (edmunds invoice). Dealers'
MSRP should not change but they add unnecessary 'fluff'
    to jack up the MSRP.

I recommend to shop through AAA auto services, Costco Auto
Program or some other auto broker in your area who charge
fee only when you buy a car through them.

In my experience the auto broker and AAA auto services get
you a lot better OTD price than the Dealers directly would.
Costco Auto program is better than direct Dealers but not as good as AAA or auto brokers.

What are your opinions on the on-demand 4x4? How much does the MPG suffers comparing to 2WD?
  • dreasdaddreasdad Member Posts: 276
are you sure it a 17inch wheel, base 4cyl in my area only comes with 16inch wheels, but I am in texas
  • javatechiejavatechie Member Posts: 11
Per Toyota Specs 3 miles highway and 1 mile city. ;)
    4x2 (4cyl) = 30 highway and 24 city
    4x4 (4cyl) = 27 highway and 23 city
  • vladidvladid Member Posts: 2
Well, as long as the on-demand 4x4 is really "on-demand" I should probably get same milage as 2x4 if I drive in normal conditions (no ice, snow or off-road). Am I wrong?
  • joecarnutjoecarnut Member Posts: 215
The 17" wheels are available as an option on the base.
Otherwise the base has 16" wheels.

Not sure but the OD on the 17" tires may be the same as for the 16s possibly causing a harsher ride.

Using 4th should not have hurt your engine as long as you did not run at real high speed/RPMs during the 1st 1000 miles or so of break in. But it did hurt your MPG for sure!
70 is 2000 RPM in 5th and much higher in 4th.

    Enjoy the V6. I have the 2007 Sport V6

I'm looking at a RAV4 V6 Ltd in Blizzard Pearl with Beige leather seats. Plus the option package #3. The dealer won't budge under 29500. Is this a reasonable price? I want the car but just don't know if the dealer is trying to pull a fast one.
  • chuck75chuck75 Member Posts: 9
Hi mnsikb, I don't know where your at but I had a local dealer try to sell me the V6 LTD in Blizzard wht for 28,300.00 OTD no additional fees just sales tax. so I think you can do better. Look back at my post about 3 to 4 weeks ago when we bought ours. I have the options listed, paid 28,200 also bought the 0 deductible 7 year 100,000 platuim warranty for 825.00. Dealer cost on it is 705.00 from toyota. The only options not on my Rav is the entertainment and 3rd row seat other than that it has everything and we love it. seems to be getting 24 to 25mpg on expressway driving, trips of 1 to 2 hours 1 way. keep negotiating. don't be afraid to walk out. my local dealer was in merrillville indiana, i bought from bob rohrman in lafayette indiana they had the right color and options leather and heated seat etc. next they kept their word 28200 plus tax no other prices. no hassel. after this i was the one that brought up the extended warranty and got the price to 825.00 no hassel just knowing what i was going to pay period. they made a buck and i got a great deal. hope this helps you, like i said in a previous post this group helped me so i posted all info on my transactions to help others. enjoy!

Hey thanks. I'll check out your post. I think the price is still to high. I agree that this forum has a lot of great information.

I think that I posted earlier that I got a very good deal in OHIO on a Limited, 4Cyl, 2WD, Sunroof, JBL.

Our Texas RAV4s all seem to have the Gulf States $1K foo foo package and NONE of them have the JBL.

Why no JBL in Gulf States??

(( Oh Yeah, most of the Gulf States cars in the first shipments had heated mirrors- not usually needed in the South. The one bought in frigid Ohio, didn't have them. Go Figure!))

I just got a quote for a Rav4 base 4cyl 2wd with 3rd-row seat. It's $22900 OTD (including everything). Is it good deal?
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
wwwwfly22....Fitzmall will sell you that RAV for about $22,000. Then you will have to drive it home and pay your state TTL fees. No one here will be able to tell you if $22,900 OTD is a good price because we don't have a clue what you have to pay for TTL.
  • oilchangeoilchange Member Posts: 2
I paid $22500 for RAV4 4WD with 3rd row in Massachusetts. This does not include the tax, title etc
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
That's a decent price. Only a few hundred more than the Fitzmall price.
  • wwwfly22wwwfly22 Member Posts: 5
Thanks for reply. I living in FL, the tax here is 7%. The real car price is about $21,000.

I am considering ordering a RAV V6 Ltd from the factory instead of taking what is on the dealer lot. I was wondering how long it took for those who went this route to get their Rav. I've been told anywhere from 6 weeks to 4 months.
  • wwwfly22wwwfly22 Member Posts: 5
I live in FL, there is SET (South East Toyota) Administration Fee for $612. Does anybody know if we have to pay it for the Rav4?
  • tkliustklius Member Posts: 3
Just ordered V6, LTD 4x4 in Evergreen in Chicago area for $28.0K, not incl. TTL.

    Options included:
Leather, moonroof, day lights, stereo upgrade, htd seats, auto dim mirror (also tow prep, carpet/cargo mats included).

$ seemed close to invoice based on edmunds and dealer told me that's a rock-bottom price, at about 1-200 above invoice. Any thoughts on this? Seemed like real good deal, but would like any thoughts.
  • carnivorecarnivore Member Posts: 19
Who here has walked away from negotiations at their local Toyota dealership and bought their car at another one some distance away to get a better deal?

Have you subsequently taken that car into your local dealership for scheduled maintenance and warranty service? If so, do you feel like that service department treated you like a second-rate customer compared to the people who purchased their cars there? Or does it seem like the service department treats all owners equally no matter where the car was purchased?
  • justthinknjustthinkn Member Posts: 1
Like the guy from Texas said earlier in this forum. You can go to the Byer dealership in Delaware, OH, and get a RAV4 at invoice. I picked one up two weeks ago without any trouble.
  • lirlir Member Posts: 81
I ended up walking away from the dealership 2 miles away from my house. They kept playing tricks, and I wasn't in a playing kind of mood. Drove about 100 miles where I got an excellent deal, no hassling. Then later took my RAV for a repair to the dealer 2 miles away. They were very courteous, like I'd bought the vehicle there.
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
tklius....Go to Edmunds.com and price out your vehicle. If you got it close to Edmunds invoice, you got a very nice deal. Please report back and let us know how close it was to the Edmunds invoice. Remember, Fitzmal is a good standard and they are about $650 over Edmunds invoice.
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
carnivore....The Service Department and the dealer make money by servicing as many vehicles as they can. They could care less where you bought it. For all they know, you just moved to town and they are honored that you have chosen them to sevice your car. Even if the service people know you turned down their deal, which is quite unlikely since the sales folks don't like to tell anyone they were beat, they still want your business and will treat you like one of their own in order to keep you coming back.

    justthinkn.....Which invoice, Toyota's or Edmunds?
  • jayjay7jayjay7 Member Posts: 5
I'm in the DC area where I think getting breaks on prices are pretty rare. Here's what I just got:

    I just got a loaded 2007 RAV4 4x4 Ltd V6 with:
    -heated leather seats
    -Sirius
    -Savannah Metallic (hard to get)

    for $29,708.00

That's before processing fee, taxes and tags and $1500 bumper to bumper 6 yr/100,000 mile warranty.

Without the leather, it was $27,478.00.
  • jayjay7jayjay7 Member Posts: 5
I was told that by one dealership that was just trying to sell their inventory. The next dealership I went to had it for me within two weeks. I was special ordering because Savannah Metallic is a hard color to come by.

I guess my wife and I are not good bargainers. Or is it really so hard to get good deals in NY.

We went to about 4-5 dealers (even in NJ) for the 2007 4x4 V6 RAV4 with 3rd row. The best we could get was $600 over invoice price ($25,447). I need to order it as we want the factory installed remote start which comes handy as I needed to warm up the car before shovelling the snow and putting the baby in the vehicle in the snowy winter.

    What we order include
    -2007 V6 4x4 base model
    -roof rack
    -factory installed remote start
    -factory installed security system
    -wheel locks
    -17' 5-spoke aluminum alloy wheel
    -Tow Prep
    -3rd row seat
    -DRL

The dealer in NJ told us they can do 1% over invoice and made us drive all the way there. Then they told me the sales who called me was gone and another sales said no way for 1% over invoice for a V6. He gave me $25799, I asked if he could go any lower and he said no. We walked away immediately and back to the first dealer who offer $25449.

The new SUV will be here in 4-6 weeks and I hope the snow comes late this year.
  • jayjay7jayjay7 Member Posts: 5
That sounds like a good deal to me. But I'm really no expert. Did yours come w/leather?

I opted to not have the 3rd row seating, got the alloy wheels, leather, Sirius and mine was $29700.

Don't they all come w/security? If not, what is Engine Immobilization?

Actually, just re-read yours and saw it is base model. Mine is not base. I went to the Toyota website and mine has whatever they call the most expensive package (Option E?) which was $3,230.
  • kitlandkitland Member Posts: 4
    Jayjay,

    No leather, just cloth.

3rd row for emergency use only but becomes handy when needed.

This dealer was the only one who did call us back after the first visit or push us to buy the unwanted extra options.

RAV4 V6 Limited's are currently very scarce in So Cal. Don't know what the problem is, but the dealers don't have any!
  • jayjay7jayjay7 Member Posts: 5
I don't think they are staying on the lots. For instance, I put a deposit on mine which was incoming. It hit the lot on Tues, I went to look at it and did the deal right then.

There is so much hype about this vehicle on Consumer Reports etc right now that they just aren't sticking around for long.
  • wwwfly22wwwfly22 Member Posts: 5
I just got my new Rav4 and very happy with it. It comes with 3rd row seat, 17-inch alloy wheel, roof rack, mat set .... The Edmunds invoice is about 21,800. The dealer offered me OTD price $23,277 (include 7% tax & Doc fee).
  • pvsurferpvsurfer Member Posts: 50
While it is very popular, in large part to CR's RAVing (sorry, couldn't resist that), that's not why they are scarce around LA.

My neighbor is a salesman at a Toyota dealer in the Los Angeles area and tells me their inventory sheets have shown 11 incoming V6 4x4s for over 2 weeks, but none have arrived yet and he's not sure when they will.
  • msrjajmsrjaj Member Posts: 12
Received an online quote from a local dealer here in RI and was wondering if it constitutes a good deal.

    2007 4WD Sport model V-6

    Invoice is 24,067
    Edmunds TMV is 26,126

    Dealer's offer is 23,871 + TTL+199 doc fees.

    Any opinions? Thanks
  • evergreenevergreen Member Posts: 213
Sounds like a great deal. Enjoy. :)
  • rav4pricerav4price Member Posts: 1
    As a FYI.

I bought new Rav4 2007 base 4X2 and I believe got the good deal i.e. $19xxx. + tax. sticker price of the vehical was $22174. It means it had some extra accesories and invoice including extra was 20850.
  • pvsurferpvsurfer Member Posts: 50
    Opinons? --- grab it quick!

    1. They are scarce in So Cal.

    2. Even if I find one, the best deal around here is $500 over Toyota invoice (which is a few hundred higher than Edmunds invoice)!
  • pvsurferpvsurfer Member Posts: 50
    Where?
  • wwwfly22wwwfly22 Member Posts: 5
Do you mean you got a deal with more than $850 below the invoice? Oh, that's really good one. I live in FL, most dealers are selling their Rav4 with price $200-300 more than invoice. I got one around the invoice and am happy with it:-)
