Edmund's TMV seems a pretty good way to tell what to pay for a vehicle, but it may be complicated to enter all of the options into the TMV calculator.
In an area with competing dealers I would not pay more than 89% MSRP for a 2005.
In August of 2004, 2005 ES330s were going for somewhat higher prices than average, especially if you bought in Houston, Texas, where the 2005s were going for 91% of MSRP.
I did a TMV on a 2005 ES330 just a week ago in the Southern California region and it came to 88.2% of MSRP.
I don't want to mislead folks on this thread, so I need to state that on every quote under 87%, I have found something incorrect in the quotes. Purchasers should not expect 85% MSRP. If you truly received that price, then you really need to pat yourself on the back, because you have received by far the best deal of any poster on this thread. Congratulations!
I have not done a direct analysis on whether a fully loaded versus lower tiers are going for a higher or lower %MSRP, but it is my impression that how the car is loaded does not impact %MSRP on factory packages all that much.
2005 ES330 classic silver met.
MSRP $32,175

heated and vent seats $640
HID headlights $640

Our deal $32,500 plus TTL
Our tips for negotiating would be 1)know dealer invoice and cost on the car and your target price. 2) keep the negotiating light , no one likes stress. 3) shop around, make a few phone calls before you go.
Happy Car Shopping!!!!!!!!!!!! Good Luck.

Sticker price (MSRP) as it appears on the sticker.
Please verify that you received a $32,500 deal on sticker price of $37909. It is confusing because you stated the MSRP is $32,175. I am going to assume that the your MSRP is $37909. Thanks.

Ray Catena Lexus at New Jersey have offered the flwg deal on a 36-month lease with 15,000 miles/yr, for a 2006 es330 with nav system:
Its based on an MSRP of $39,074/-
1st. month payment $475.00
bank fee 600.00
m.v. fee 175.50
documentation 199.00
tire tax 7.50
9 msd's 4,275.00 (multiple security deposits from lexus finance)
Total: $5,732.00 of which $4,275 is returned to me at lease termination
Total monthly payment thereafter is $475 including tax
Does it look like a competitive offer? I'm aware PA would have cheaper prices, but wouldn't consider covering that distance unless there's a big difference. Thanks in advance for your help.
Bought 2006 for $34,500.
The car is fully loaded, the MSRP sticker on the car was $39,694. Invoice is $34,684. It has the Navigation with Mark Levinson, AVS, VSC, HID, wood steering wheel, a bunch of mats and nets. In addition, the car had the dealer add-on of Sirius radio with 9 months free service. Got a quote from Longo for $34,500. Went to Keyes, my local Lexus dealer just to see if they could match it. They did.
I bought from Keyes because they treated me with respect. As a female latina, I know I a bit oversensitive but the guy at Longo kept asking me if I would prefer a less expensive configuration. Maybe he assumed I couldn't afford it. I didn't tell anyone that I make close to $144,000.
I wanted to buy a nice car for my 45th birthday. Test drove lots of entry luxury cars, like the BMW new 3 series, Infiniti G35 but decided on the ES 330. I hope I like it. These boards really helped me. Thanks.
MSRP does not vary for factory PACKAGES, regardless of the dealer from whom you purchase your car or region or whatever. Edmund's factory MSRP should be the same as a factory package MSRP shown on the sticker. Edmund's should not be showing a different MSRP than one that is shown on the sticker.
Where differences may come in is if you go to the Edmund's site and build a vehicle that is not a factory package. You could conceivably end up with higher MSRP than is on a package MSRP if you calculate the total MSRP by adding up all the component MSRPs.
In other words, when options come as part of a package, they are cheaper than if you add the options to a base vehicle one by one. You are likely to be able to rely on Edmund's MSRP, but I think the MSRP on the sticker is more accurate.
I like to think that quotes on this site have helped people walk into dealers with "attitude" that evokes confidence to negotiate. Of course these lower prices could be in anticipation of the new 2007 body style, but somehow I doubt it. The 2006 just came out, and in general folks aren't willing to wait when they need a new car!
Anyway, below are three of the most recent deals. Just compare them to the deals in posts 917 and 1056. These are by far the lowest prices I have seen yet.
deerblue's deal confirmed my suspicion that the 2006 could be had for similar price as some 2005s, although Edmund's TMV Values the 2006 much more espensively.
======================================
bayviewe, 2005 ES330, 1112, 10/24/05, Schaumburg ,Il (North Chicago area, Woodfield Lexus), $37909, $32,500, 85.7% MSRP.
deerblue, 2006 ES330, 1119, 10/24/95, So Cal (Keyes Lexus),$39,694, $34,500, 86.9% MSRP.
dshash, 2005 ES330, 1117, 10/25/2005, Massachusetts (Lexus of Watertown) $39913, 33,000, 83.9% MSRP
=====================================
.I would think even 32999 is a good price comparatively because I was at a NJ dealership and he quoted me almost 34,xxx (can't recall the exact amt) saying he can atbest give me the invoice price for a 2005 when I walked in for a 2006. I wanted to go through the wholesale club car buying program which had a $500 over invoice price.
I was maintaining my offer around 86-87% of MSRP during the intial discussion and he was not willing to go below invoice. I did not go back to the dealer though he was later following up.
.
I guess bayview has gi an awesome deal cs If I got that price I would pick up the car the same day.
Quite frankly, my experience says to check out any deal under 87% MSRP, because almost without exception, I have found errors in posters' deals under 87% MSRP. Your data just proves it because your first quote was ~ 83.9% which is pretty difficult to believe.
que2, 2005 ES330, 1059, 3/31/05, Little Falls, New Jersey (Tri-County Lexus) $35909, $31,800, 88.6% MSRP
x021607, 2005 ES330, 1006, 9/1/05, Bridgewater, NJ (DiFeo Lexus), purchase, $35909, $32500, 90.5% MSRP.
Not being from that area, I have no idea how close these dealers are to one another, but clearly the two posters received different deals on what appears to be the same car in a similar geographical area. It would be up to you (the New Jersey puchaser) whether you would want to travel to save ~ $700, which is the difference between the prices these two posters paid for the same car.
a) the MSRP on the base car and options can differ between the '05 and '06.
b) "Fully loaded" has a different meaning for the respective model years. For example, some people are saying that ML does not come on the 2006. If a fully loaded 05 has an ML and a fully loaded 2006 does not, then that alone may explain the price difference. ie why the 06 costs less.
I'd avoid the term "fully loaded" because that can have different meanings from region to region.

Note: If you have more options than what I have, then the offer price goes up. What was the MSRP on the car?

On the other hand, I know that ALL owners receive at least one free service and I actually thought it was two. The two free services could actually cover 9 months or so, which would mean everyone receives this deal.
I bought my car in 2002, so I am not remembering how many of my services were free, but I know it was at least one.
We didn't do any haggling. The dealership gave this figure. Is this a Good Deal?
#1) Can you reply with the MSRP and INVOICE prices of the complete packages that are offered for this Lexus model. (For example, the heated seat package has an MSRP of $3074, but what is the invoice price of this package?)
#2) Are these models typically built from the factory with the major packages only, or could you "order" a base ES 330 with VSC and Heated seats only?
It would be nice to have this type of info before sitting down with the car dealer!
Your help would be appreciated!
Dan
Dealer's Actual Cost = ( Invoice Price - Factory To Dealer Incentives - Factory Holdback)
Your Offer = (Dealer's Actual Cost + 5% )
The TMV Pricing Report is showing the following:
MSRP____________Invoice___________TMV
National Base Price______$32,200___________$28,640________$31,684
Destination Charge_________$650______________$650___________$650
Total With Options_______$32,950___________$29,290_________$32,306
I don't know where the dealer was getting $34,500 from. There must be other things like undercoating. We were totally unprepared. Based, on the TMV though it looks like we left out a good offer. We were so unprepared.
I am going to guess that the car with the TMV report is a 2006, because the TMV is showing a walloping 98% of MSRP. 2005s are going for much less.
By contrast, it sounds like the $30,500 quote for a vehicle of list price $34,500 is for a 2005, because the TMV is something like 88.4% MSRP. I'd do the following if I were you:
1) Verify that by "list price", the dealer means MSRP. ("Sticker" and MSRP mean the same thing, but I don't know what list price is. Do not let the dealer use any term like "list price" in the future).
2) If "list price" means MSRP to the dealer giving you your quote, I'd take that deal if I were you. There are likely more features on the $34,500 car than there are on the $32,950 car and you would be getting it for $2000 less money. Of course, you'd would be one model year older, but I don't think that is worth $2000.
I don't think you will be a happy camper paying a $2000 premium for a year newer model with no upgraded features from the previous year's model.
If you REALLY want the latest Model Year, then wait until Spring of '06 to get the 2007 model. But don't pay 98% MSRP just because a vehicle is a 2006.

I went back to the dealer's parking lot. Closed today but will try to get on this deal tomorrow. If they won't let me in on the deal, I will wait a few months till the do :-).
Base Price (2006 ES 330) $32,300
DC 6-Disk In-Dash CD Auto Changer $550
Alloy Wheels $360
Wood and Leather Steering Wheel $330
Preferred Accessory Package (Z1) $194
Destination Charge $650
Total $34,384
Invoice Price from Edmunds says $30,398
The price I was offered was $30,400 which the dealer said was $400 below invoice. I can't believe that I was offered such a good price without even asking. If I can't get this price tomorrow, I will probably give up for some time.

PAID $36000 out the door. I got the car for $33,200! The dealer took away all the other charges, except the musts (tax, lic, reg, tire)
Good Luck!

It also supports my theory that the TMV Edmund's is showing for 2006s (approx 98%) is kind of out to lunch. No way would I pay 98% MSRP for a 2006 and it looks like you did not have to either.
Please include the geographical region of the dealer from whom you puchased your vehicle.
Congratulations.
No the price was not $32,200 (just might be a typo), it was $33,200 (plus 2 free tanks of gas).
I bought the car in El Monte (pretty much spells it out) but it was great customer service. The dealership has alot of perks which I like. Scheduled oil changes @ YOUR HOUSE (includes tire rotation, top off fluids, etc)! For any major service, they come and drop off a loaner on a flatbed & pick yours up.
All and all, GREAT experience and great dealership.
