I constantly hear an annyoing rattle coming from the rear of the cabin. I have yet to identify where it's coming from but I'm guessing it's the latch mechanism that releases the hatch.

It is very, very, very annoying. Anyone else experiencing this problem or happen to know what it is?

    TIA,

I have an 04 ls and yesterday my dr side controls stopped working. I tried using the psgr control and they worked. I checked fuses under the hood and they are all fine. I checked the fuses on the side and they are fine. I am a bit confused the psgrs window is now stuck fully open and the control for the window on the psgrs side doesn't work either. The lock button on that side works. I am baffled and it is sunday. No dealer is open. I am just praying that it doesn't rain. Does any one know what the story is with this and any possible solutions. Also One can't remove the door panel easily to explore the connections. :confuse:

    Hi
I have a 2004 XLS which was going fine until 5 months a ago when I started hearing a high pitched whine when I hit 40 MPH. It would get louder as I sped up and would stop when I stopped. After several trips to the dealership, I finally convinced them I was not losing my mind and the chief mechanic agreed that he heard it as well. A call to the Mitsubishi service centre resulted in no solution - replace the transmission. The car has 47,000 miles on it.
The District Manger was then called in and he heard the noise. His response was that this is normal wear and tear but for a one-time deal he would authorize the gear set to be changed.
This has yet to be done (waiting on parts) but I am curious if anyone else has come across anything like this. One of the deciding factors was their warranty but they do not make it easy.
    Thanks

Me too.....faulty propshaft bearing (AWD right?)....starts when car warms up after 10-15 mph or when I accelerate hard. Whole propshaft needs replacing.
  • jeffw2jeffw2 Member Posts: 2
You are right about it starting after the car has warmed up. I will mention to the dealer.
    Thanks for the tip.

Intermittent "squeak" or high pitched noise that doesn't seem to relate to anything. Sound comes from the power steering column. Dealership replaced the power steering pump but now says that Mitsubishi will not repay them under warranty. According to the service tech who also drives one of these cars - this is something that is happening in a lot of them and Mitsubishi says "too bad". Anyone else with this problem? :confuse:

I had the same problem regarding the loud whine after the vehicle warmed up (started at 30 mph in my case). Propeller shaft and assembly was replaced (quickly - dealer had parts on hand - and at no cost -- so this may be a common problem). Dealer service department knew what it was right away. No B.S. No problems since (it's been 16 months and 15k miles since the repair). Great vehicle so far (30k miles).

My 2004 AWD Endeavor with 28K miles had the same problem ... loud whine at > 30 mph. Still happened when in coasting in neutral so I knew it wasn't the transmission. The mechanic heard it when we went for a test. They called Mitsubishi and found that there was a service notice (not a bulliten) on it. The propeller shaft was replace at no charge at all to me. The dealer was great! They spent a lot of time trying to diagnose and research the problem and had the car back to me in a couple of days. I still love my Endeavor! It's been a great vehicle.

have an 05, only has 2880 miles. when i got it new it was just like the reviews, was a truck but drove like a car.

but now i feel the engine force more. it takes a tad longer for the gears to change. there is a clear increase in strain from the engine and it doesn't "drive like a car" anymore.

could it be the switching gas? i had it on shell it was fine, then put chevron and now shell again (all premium).

    thanx

Did you ever get the air noise issue resolved? We had a rock chip then crack in windshield on our 05 endeavor. After replacement we had wind noise... windshield company has been back twice more to attempt to resolve... still not right. they come back tomorrow to do total windshield replacement again. I checked in with my dealer service manager today to find if there are any tricks or things to look for... he said no.
welcome any suggestions or ways it was resolved for you... if it was!
Still love our Endeavor otherwise, but can't/won't put up with the wind noise.

"Rattling noise in cabin" : this too drove me batty when I first purchased my endeavor over a year ago. After about a week, I figured it out. After a rear seat passenger has used the seat belt, most folks don't turn around to "tuck it in the clip" once they've taken it off. If you don't do that, the metal part of the belt will "rattle" against the inside door frame. Stick that bugger back in the side clip and you're good to go!

"Noise when excelarating" : Mine still does this from time to time but usually if I'm hitting 60mph with the a/c on. No biggie for me, I just turn the radio up! :P

shaky feeling when driving, I noticed this about 2 months after my purchase. I took it in to the dealer only to find out then that I should be using premium gasoline. Now, it's all I use and I've never had problems with it again.

I purchased an 04 Limited in Jan 05. My original thoughts for a purchase was the Volvo XC90. I'm so happy with my choice. If all goes well, I'll be trading my 04 in on an 06 this weekend!

The power steering pump just went out on my 2004 endeavor, and I was wondering how much it cost you to have yours replaced. I am also getting an intermittent high pitched noise, although I was thinking it had something to do the air conditioner, as it has occured when that has been on.
  • tks123tks123 Member Posts: 3
My power steering pump was replaced under warranty. I still have the intermittent high pitched noise - not sure if it is related to the AC. The service technician also has the same car and said his is making the same noise. Mitsubishi says "too bad" and perhaps at some point in time will issue some information on the problem. It is really annoying.
  • jaws3jaws3 Member Posts: 3
Is the power steering pump covered under the 3/36 warranty or the power train warranty? How many miles did you have on your endeavor when you had it replaced? Thank you
  • jaws3jaws3 Member Posts: 3
Have you taken it to the dealer yet? My dealer doesn't know what it is. I have the exact same sound, only mine is now doing it after I turn my vehicle off as well as on.
  • hellcat51hellcat51 Member Posts: 30
Here's what I have found - this is exactly what my AC does. The dealer is looking into it now.

    Component Description:
    70. EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL:AIR CONDITIONER Bulletin Number: 0355010
    Bulletin Date: OCT 2003

    Vehicle: 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor
    Summary:
AIR CONDITIONER EXPANSION VALVE WHOOPING NOISE COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHICH OCCURS DURING NORMAL AIR CONDITIONING OPERATION. ( NHTSA ITEM NUMBER - 10004580 )

Make sure you get all of the keys and keyless entry remotes. I bought mine used and only received one key and no remote. I was referred to ebay to purchase an extra key to save on dealership prices. The key itself is at least 15.00 plus you have to pay to get it cut and programmed which is another $60. The remote is $30 on ebay plus the dealership charges $45 to program it. I paid $2 on ebay for programming instructions for the remote but have not tried it yet. If anyone is interested I will let you know if it works.

Other than ebay, does anyone have any suggestions on obtaining an extra key at a reasonable price?

    hi...
nope not yet. i had the windshield re sealed by the body shop. but the noise seeps in from the door/window area. i researched it and i heard other endeavors have had it (haven't seen any solutions). One of the researched items said that poor insulation in the part where the door begins t=and the front of the car ends can be a major cause. makes sense b/c that is where the air seems to be coming from.

will elt you know, taking it to dealer soon.
  • servantservant Member Posts: 6
Sorry to hear you are still having air noise. Second replacement window seems to have solved our problem. Windshield company employee (fourth one to work on it) found a strip of foil-wrapped insulation that had been torn and he thought that could have been the problem. He replaced it, along with installing a new window, and now seems to be much better. My wife does think she hears more noise near door window area than before... like you describe. Will be interested to learn if there is a way to install more insulation that makes a difference.
  • staminstamin Member Posts: 1
I have had a intermittent high whistling noise since the car was 4 months old. Of course technician did not hear noise and second time I made the technician drive it with me in the car. He then heard it and tried to tell me road noise. I know different. Two factors come into play when the noise occurs: 74mph minimum along with certain wind direction. I have practically laid in the dashboard to pinpoint where I hear the noise initiating while my spouse drove at the 75mph. It almost appears to be involved with the larger wiper device that sits outside at the bottom of the windshield.
I am very interested if others have experienced this annoying noise in similar factor situations and possible wiper base area.

I can't find the drain tube for my ac unit in my 2005 Endeavour. It's dripping all over my floor!!!!
  • jchonjchon Member Posts: 1
We've have experienced the same noise (accelerating from 40 to 60 mph) in our 2006 Endeavor LS AWD. My wife heard the noise from day one, but after two trips to the dealership, service persons there keep calling it "normal".
Our dealership is Maywood Mitsubishi in New Jersey, maybe they need to talk to your dealership to get a clue. Information about your dealership would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I'm considering buying an Endeavor. I had thought to buy a Limited with AWD and Traction Control, so as to have the best of all worlds in snowy conditions. I've read in the Car and Driver article where the AWD doesn't always do well in snow--perhaps it's the Bridgestone tires.

So, AWD with traction control makes sense.

However, my wife really wants the DVD feature and it seems from the Mitsubishi website that you cannot get both DVD and traction control on an AWD--go figure.

With all that said, my question is this....for the Endeavor, which will handle better in snowy conditions--AWD or FWD with traction control?

Thanks for your help on this.

I called San Rafael Mitsubishi here in northern California (415-454-7000) and they said you are right, you can't get that combo. They did suggest, though that you:

Definitely get the AWD. People who have Endeavors in the Tahoe area say it works great in snow

    and

You CAN buy an aftermarket DVD system that not only allows you to have a moonroof (you can't have moonroof with factory DVD) but it's also CHEAPER than the factory DVD.

So you can, in fact, get the best of all worlds with a little running around.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for this information.

We live in northern Colorado and it seems to me that AWD with Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control would provide for the greatest sure-footedness.

I hadn't thought about an aftermarket DVD system--so thanks for the suggestion.

    Have a safe July 4th.

Mine too. 2004 AWD. My car is at the shop right now. He said the propeller shaft noise usually comes from the rear of the vehicle. My car has the same signs & symptoms but the noise sounds like it is from the front. I will post what my dealership concludes is the problem.
  • herewegoherewego Member Posts: 9
The dealership said it was the drive shaft. The part is on order.

Well I felt it coming three days ago and today it finally happened the A/C blows hot and of course with 46,000miles it's out of warranty. I to have the whistling sound when on the highways and for some reason every time I get an oil change every 3,000 miles the truck is really low on oil but when I left last time and they showed me the dipstick it had the level between the two dots. I am seriously debating the reliability of this vehicle. On top of the fact that I got lied to at the dealer who told me since I bought it with 10k that I would have bumper to bumper warranty for 5/60 when bought in San Antonio and then here in Orlando now it's 3/36 btb 5/60 powertrain.
  • tmeframetmeframe Member Posts: 80
We're in a similar boat with our 04 Endeavor. There's a serial-number cutoff. Anything above a given number has the 5/60, and below has the 3/36. Call Mitsubishi to find out what the SN cutoff is.

Our SN is below, so we were 3/36

Hi Shifty, I hope you did have a safe 4th.

Let me bother you with one more question.

I've spoken with a dealer (not a Mitsubishi dealer)who has a 2005 Endeavor Limited with less than 1000 miles. Since he is some distance from me, I haven't seen the vehicle.

He says it has traction control, but he can't find anywhere in the 2005 manual about the Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC).

So, my question is this: is the traction control on a 2005 Endeavor Limited the same as the Traction Control Package which includes: Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC) that is available on the 2006 Limiteds?

I think that the 2006 M-ASTC system looks like traction control plus an electronic stability control system, which Consumer Reports highly recommends.

So, I guess I'm actually asking two questions:
    1) Are the 2005 and 2006 systems the same? and
    2) Is the M-ASTC truly a traction control and electronic stability system?

Thanks for your input on these two questions.

I think a quick call to a Mitsu dealer would clear that up. I really don't have that type of info at hand, so I'd just be doing the same thing, calling the dealer up.

Thanks Shifty, I'll give our local dealer a call and then post to the forum their reply.

    Have a great weekend

Ok, so I made some phone calls and did some more internet searching. Here's what I found:

The 2005 Limiteds have the same traction control and anti-skid system as the 2006's.

Interestinly, the 2005 owner's manual apparently doesn't say anything about Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC). Yet, this appears to be what you get with 2005 traction control.

If anyone has seen anything that says that the M-ASTC was an optional add-on to the 2005 traction control system, I'd love to hear about it.

Also, has anyone had experience with this system on their 2005/2006 Endeavor Limiteds?

A safe and relaxing weekend to all!
  • cfoforfuncfoforfun Member Posts: 6
I purchased a 2005 Limited in February 2005. According to the invoice, it has both traction systems on the vehicle. I was later disappointed to learn that I couldn't put chains on this vehicle as I was used to a Jeep Grand Cherokee that got me through some pretty deep snow using its low range which of course the Endeavor doesn't have.

With an impending snow storm predicted on our local mountain, Mt. Hood in Oregon, in November, 2005 I purchased a set of snow tires and had metal studs put on them. I also bought another set of wheels and had the studded tires mounted on the stock wheels and had the stock tires put on the new chrome wheels. This allowed me to fairly easily switch back and forth as I made my purchase at Les Schwab Tires which will make the switch at no cost.

The 11/05 snow was about 14" deep at our cabin on the mountain. I had absolutely no trouble with traction and now have as much or at least nearly as much confidence with my Endeavor as I had with my Jeep.
  • deadmanlivesdeadmanlives Member Posts: 6
Your experience with your 2005 Endeavor tells me three things:

    1) That 2005 Endeavors do indeed have the option of a Traction Control Package, which includes the Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC) system.

    2) That this traction control system worked well for you.

    3) That you know what you're doing when it comes to adapting to snowy conditions.

Thanks so much for your thoughts.

Anyone else out there have any thoughts on the Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC) system functioning well or poorly in snowy, icy conditions?

Sorry for the delay in replying. The power steering pump was covered under the warranty - had 33,000 miles BUT Mitsubishi wanted to recover the cost from the dealership because they say "too bad" that the noise occurs. The high pitched noise usually occurs when stopped and sounds like it is coming from the steering column.

I am looking for experiences with towing with an AWD endeavor.
Do you use the manual shifter in 1st gear?
    :surprise:
  • boricua83boricua83 Member Posts: 2
Okay well I had the truck fixed. First the A/C situation was some valve behind the motor that failed and an actuator on the compressor, the oil problem was due to the ignorant fools at the Mobile 1 in Orlando. They lost the washer that goes to the bolt and decided to put some gacky crap on it so I changed the oil put a new mitsu oil filter and washer on the bolt good to go. By the way it's awesome to make friends with Mitsubishi techs. My mechanic only charged me $400.00 for all of the A/C work, Tranny flush, replace rear brake light. All of that would have been over $1,500 at the dealer.

I have owned a 2005 Endeavor LS for the last year and it had never had a problem. I got a notice about the front brake caliber recall.

I took my car to to the dealership and my left front brake caliber had to be replaced. The part had to be ordered which took a week to come in. It is annoying that the dealership did not have the part in stock especially since there was a recall. I took my Endeavor in and the caliber was replaced free of charge.

The next day I started to feel something hitting the floor board under my feet when I would turn left, go over spped bumps or comming up to a stop. I also hear a rattle on the right side of the vehicle where the passenger seat belt is. There is also a rattle comming from under the hood when I accelerate to pass a vehicle or when getting on the freeway. Again, I had no problems before I had the recalled brake caliber replaced.

I took my car back to the dealership and explained the issues. They kept it all day and then told me that it was fine and nothing was wrong. They said they could not feel anything hitting the floor board when they turned left or went over speed bumps. I was told that the rattle from under the hood was normal due to the fact that I only use premium once a month. I was told to run premium more often and there would not be a rattle.

Has anyone had a problem like this or know what the problm might be when turning left or going over speed bumps? Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hey, I'm interested in what the programming instructions are for your keyless remote, and if it worked for you. Appreciate the help, thanks.

I am sorry to have to disagree with the statement "... M-ASTC. Yet, this appears to be what you get with 2005 traction control".

M-ASTC stands for "Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control", this is the name Mitsubishi gives to what is known in the industry as "Electronic Stability Control". Other makers give their own names to ESC such as "Stabilitrack", etc.

M-ASTC is an AVAILABLE option on the 2006 LIMITED version of the Endeavor... you can read this at http://www.mitsucars.com/MMSA/jsp/endeavor/features_specs.jsp

There is an Electronic Stability Control Coalition web site www.esc.com where they list which model and which years the ESC system is offered either as standard or optional feature. Unfortunately, today, their site is down. I think I recall from visiting that site before, that M-ASTC was not available on the 2005 Endeavor.

Having TCS (traction control system) on a 2006 Endeavor Limited (or any of the Endeavors) does not mean you have M-ASTC... I wish it did.

Traction Control (TCS) is great... I call it "the magic hand" as it makes the necessary correction to avoid the tires from skidding...

ESC is a much more comprehensive system which includes a gyroscope. It takes control of the car (making motor speed, brake and suspension adjustments) when excessive or abnormal maneuvers are detected, such as during an accident.

Typically TCS can be disconnected through a switch if you want to regain normal control of the car (such is the case on the 2005 Limited Endeavor). I have not read that you can disconnect ESC.

Door Hinge Attaching Bolts on New 2006 Endeavor (all four doors) clearly have had wrench used on them before vehicle delivered. Bolt heads are marred and all paint off. These are bolts that attach to Door; not to vehicle Body. Have never seen this in 40 years of buying new vehicles! Would very much appreciate any and all ideas as to what has happened and why? Thank You!
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Probably the door was adjusted because it wasn't closing properly during prep, I would guess. If it were a newly painted door, they would have done the install and adjusting first, then painted over the hinge.
  • damon34damon34 Member Posts: 124
Does all trims of the Endeavor come with the trip computer where it tells your fuel consumption MPG and so on. I was curious. Thinking about buying one but all I have test drove was the LS and I didnt even check out the radio. Thank you.

I have a 2004 Endeavor and have the same problem. Did you ever find the drain tube?
  • Mr_ShiftrightMr_Shiftright Member Posts: 64,481
Pretty sure you have to buy the Limited trim level to get it standard, or you have to buy an LS and add the Road Trip Package, which is a lotta stuff bundled together.
  • kimseggkimsegg Member Posts: 1
What happened to your car later? Did replacing ECU fix your start problem?

I have an exactly same problem with the same model. I already have my car towed twice.

    Your reply will be appreciated.

I have this same noise and each time I take it to the dealer they cannot hear anything - I think they think I am crazy - and it happens right after I turn the car off as well.
  • herewegoherewego Member Posts: 9
I could not figure it out. I could not locate the Data Port. I took it to the dealership and they cut/programmed 2 keys and programmed the remote for $45. If you are still interested, you can email me at v_ballfan@yahoo.com and I can forward it to you.
