It is very, very, very annoying. Anyone else experiencing this problem or happen to know what it is?
TIA,
- Petronius (California)
I have a 2004 XLS which was going fine until 5 months a ago when I started hearing a high pitched whine when I hit 40 MPH. It would get louder as I sped up and would stop when I stopped. After several trips to the dealership, I finally convinced them I was not losing my mind and the chief mechanic agreed that he heard it as well. A call to the Mitsubishi service centre resulted in no solution - replace the transmission. The car has 47,000 miles on it.
The District Manger was then called in and he heard the noise. His response was that this is normal wear and tear but for a one-time deal he would authorize the gear set to be changed.
This has yet to be done (waiting on parts) but I am curious if anyone else has come across anything like this. One of the deciding factors was their warranty but they do not make it easy.
Thanks
Thanks for the tip.
but now i feel the engine force more. it takes a tad longer for the gears to change. there is a clear increase in strain from the engine and it doesn't "drive like a car" anymore.
could it be the switching gas? i had it on shell it was fine, then put chevron and now shell again (all premium).
thanx
welcome any suggestions or ways it was resolved for you... if it was!
Still love our Endeavor otherwise, but can't/won't put up with the wind noise.
"Noise when excelarating" : Mine still does this from time to time but usually if I'm hitting 60mph with the a/c on. No biggie for me, I just turn the radio up! :P
shaky feeling when driving, I noticed this about 2 months after my purchase. I took it in to the dealer only to find out then that I should be using premium gasoline. Now, it's all I use and I've never had problems with it again.
I purchased an 04 Limited in Jan 05. My original thoughts for a purchase was the Volvo XC90. I'm so happy with my choice. If all goes well, I'll be trading my 04 in on an 06 this weekend!

Other than ebay, does anyone have any suggestions on obtaining an extra key at a reasonable price?
nope not yet. i had the windshield re sealed by the body shop. but the noise seeps in from the door/window area. i researched it and i heard other endeavors have had it (haven't seen any solutions). One of the researched items said that poor insulation in the part where the door begins t=and the front of the car ends can be a major cause. makes sense b/c that is where the air seems to be coming from.
will elt you know, taking it to dealer soon.
I am very interested if others have experienced this annoying noise in similar factor situations and possible wiper base area.
Our dealership is Maywood Mitsubishi in New Jersey, maybe they need to talk to your dealership to get a clue. Information about your dealership would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
So, AWD with traction control makes sense.
However, my wife really wants the DVD feature and it seems from the Mitsubishi website that you cannot get both DVD and traction control on an AWD--go figure.
With all that said, my question is this....for the Endeavor, which will handle better in snowy conditions--AWD or FWD with traction control?
Thanks for your help on this.
Definitely get the AWD. People who have Endeavors in the Tahoe area say it works great in snow
and
You CAN buy an aftermarket DVD system that not only allows you to have a moonroof (you can't have moonroof with factory DVD) but it's also CHEAPER than the factory DVD.
So you can, in fact, get the best of all worlds with a little running around.
Hope this helps.
shifty the host
We live in northern Colorado and it seems to me that AWD with Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control would provide for the greatest sure-footedness.
I hadn't thought about an aftermarket DVD system--so thanks for the suggestion.
Have a safe July 4th.

Our SN is below, so we were 3/36

Let me bother you with one more question.
I've spoken with a dealer (not a Mitsubishi dealer)who has a 2005 Endeavor Limited with less than 1000 miles. Since he is some distance from me, I haven't seen the vehicle.
He says it has traction control, but he can't find anywhere in the 2005 manual about the Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC).
So, my question is this: is the traction control on a 2005 Endeavor Limited the same as the Traction Control Package which includes: Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC) that is available on the 2006 Limiteds?
I think that the 2006 M-ASTC system looks like traction control plus an electronic stability control system, which Consumer Reports highly recommends.
So, I guess I'm actually asking two questions:
1) Are the 2005 and 2006 systems the same? and
2) Is the M-ASTC truly a traction control and electronic stability system?
Thanks for your input on these two questions.
Jerry
Have a great weekend
The 2005 Limiteds have the same traction control and anti-skid system as the 2006's.
Interestinly, the 2005 owner's manual apparently doesn't say anything about Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC). Yet, this appears to be what you get with 2005 traction control.
If anyone has seen anything that says that the M-ASTC was an optional add-on to the 2005 traction control system, I'd love to hear about it.
Also, has anyone had experience with this system on their 2005/2006 Endeavor Limiteds?
A safe and relaxing weekend to all!
With an impending snow storm predicted on our local mountain, Mt. Hood in Oregon, in November, 2005 I purchased a set of snow tires and had metal studs put on them. I also bought another set of wheels and had the studded tires mounted on the stock wheels and had the stock tires put on the new chrome wheels. This allowed me to fairly easily switch back and forth as I made my purchase at Les Schwab Tires which will make the switch at no cost.
The 11/05 snow was about 14" deep at our cabin on the mountain. I had absolutely no trouble with traction and now have as much or at least nearly as much confidence with my Endeavor as I had with my Jeep.
1) That 2005 Endeavors do indeed have the option of a Traction Control Package, which includes the Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC) system.
2) That this traction control system worked well for you.
3) That you know what you're doing when it comes to adapting to snowy conditions.
Thanks so much for your thoughts.
Anyone else out there have any thoughts on the Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control (M-ASTC) system functioning well or poorly in snowy, icy conditions?
Do you use the manual shifter in 1st gear?
:surprise:
I took my car to to the dealership and my left front brake caliber had to be replaced. The part had to be ordered which took a week to come in. It is annoying that the dealership did not have the part in stock especially since there was a recall. I took my Endeavor in and the caliber was replaced free of charge.
The next day I started to feel something hitting the floor board under my feet when I would turn left, go over spped bumps or comming up to a stop. I also hear a rattle on the right side of the vehicle where the passenger seat belt is. There is also a rattle comming from under the hood when I accelerate to pass a vehicle or when getting on the freeway. Again, I had no problems before I had the recalled brake caliber replaced.
I took my car back to the dealership and explained the issues. They kept it all day and then told me that it was fine and nothing was wrong. They said they could not feel anything hitting the floor board when they turned left or went over speed bumps. I was told that the rattle from under the hood was normal due to the fact that I only use premium once a month. I was told to run premium more often and there would not be a rattle.
Has anyone had a problem like this or know what the problm might be when turning left or going over speed bumps? Your advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Rodney
M-ASTC stands for "Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control", this is the name Mitsubishi gives to what is known in the industry as "Electronic Stability Control". Other makers give their own names to ESC such as "Stabilitrack", etc.
M-ASTC is an AVAILABLE option on the 2006 LIMITED version of the Endeavor... you can read this at http://www.mitsucars.com/MMSA/jsp/endeavor/features_specs.jsp
There is an Electronic Stability Control Coalition web site www.esc.com where they list which model and which years the ESC system is offered either as standard or optional feature. Unfortunately, today, their site is down. I think I recall from visiting that site before, that M-ASTC was not available on the 2005 Endeavor.
Having TCS (traction control system) on a 2006 Endeavor Limited (or any of the Endeavors) does not mean you have M-ASTC... I wish it did.
Traction Control (TCS) is great... I call it "the magic hand" as it makes the necessary correction to avoid the tires from skidding...
ESC is a much more comprehensive system which includes a gyroscope. It takes control of the car (making motor speed, brake and suspension adjustments) when excessive or abnormal maneuvers are detected, such as during an accident.
Typically TCS can be disconnected through a switch if you want to regain normal control of the car (such is the case on the 2005 Limited Endeavor). I have not read that you can disconnect ESC.
I have an exactly same problem with the same model. I already have my car towed twice.
Your reply will be appreciated.
