Why is it that every internet source says that invoice on a 2006 AWD Limited is 34,761, but my dealer says invoice is 35,113?
They say they will show me the actual invoice to prove this. Do prices change during the year so that the Edmunds prices could be off?
Also, does anyone know what dealer holdback is on Siennas?
    Thanks.

While manufacturers can and do raise prices during a model year, the difference is most likely due to the fact that popularly published invoice prices (including those on this site) do not include Toyota Dealer Advertising (TDA) which varies by region. The difference you cite ($352) is within normal TDA range.

The holdback on Toyotas is 2%.

Just bought 06 LE with package #4 (BZ) - MSRP of 28557$ - paid 24999$ plus 399$ plus tax in Denver.

Just bought a slate metallic Sienna Limited w/ option package 3.
    MSRP $42,536.
    Price paid: $39000.
    Trade-in value on 2003 Highlander limited: $18,500.
Graduation rebate: $400 (graduating from medical school in May.)
I bought extended warranty for about $1200 (I can't remember exactly).
Total priced financed (at 0% interest) was $21300.

The best part is that we found exactly what we wanted right here in good ol' Arkansas. I thought I'd have to go out of the Gulf States, since these limited models are so rare here that dealers usually won't stray too far from MSRP.

For all of you willing to negotiate with dealers through email, I'd definitely recommend the Orr Toyota in Hot Springs, AR. No hassle whatsoever. If anyone needs contact information, please feel free to contact me.

May I ask how you got the 0% finance on your new Sienna? Was it from Toyota or a dealer thing?
    Thanks.
  • guirgiguirgi Member Posts: 4
It's one of the incentives currently offered in the Gulf States Region. You can take a $750 rebate, or your choice of 0% for 36 mo, 3.9% for 48 mo, or 4.9% for 60 mo. I was surprised to see those rates, since the best rate the Honda dealership could give me was 5.75%.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
0% in the Gulf States area? I would have never said this in the past, but I might have to go INTO the Gulf States area and try and get a deal.

My region is offering $1000 cash or 2.9APR/36 months.

Has anybody had any experience dealing with the Toyota dealers in Las Vegas area? How about Findlay Toyota in Henderson?

    I will appreciate the response...

We live in New Hampshire and just bought a silver "06 AWD Limited for 35,114 from Alderman's Toyota in Rutland, VT.
I suspect that prices tend to run high in my area and there is little room for negotiation.
Alderman's was pleasant to deal with and they delivered the car to my house, but there were some issues which made the experience less pleasant.
We had originally agreed on a price of 35,113 for the "06 Limited AWD on March 4, assuming a $750 rebate at the time of delivery. The car actually arrived at the dealership on April 10, at which time the rebate had increased to $1000 from the $750 it had been when we made the deal. Strangely, the price I paid did not drop $250. They cited that the invoice price had increased and that their profit remained the same, at $750.
Well, I wasn't going to make a big issue of $250 at this point, but I felt that I should have paid less since the rebate increased. I really doubt their profit was only $750 on this vehicle. I also doubt that the invoice price increased.
Anyway, I'm probably buying another Toyota in the next 6 months and this dealership is aware of that. I'm surprised they didn't do more to try to gain my business on the next one. Instead, this kind of sleight of hand makes me likely to move on to another dealership.
Overall, not the worst experience ever, nor the best. I just wanted to post my experience since I benefited from others having done so.
We LOVE the Sienna, by the way. Much nice than the Acura MDX we had before.

Is there any way to find out if and or how much you should be charged for advertising? Two dealers in my area keep saying $500.00. As many cars as Toyota sells in the U.S. if all dealers charged $500.00 per car then you are talking about taking in over 500 mil. for advertising alone. Toyota does not spend anywhere near that amount for advertising.
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
I would try to negotiate a price of about $50 per car if possible.
  • mjg101mjg101 Member Posts: 15
Started out at $300.00 over invoice with the dealer keeping the $1,000.00 rebate. I thought that it was a good deal untill I started talking "out the door price". He wanted to add $500.00 for advertising and then add another $300.00 for a processing fee. I am talking about a cash deal, no trade in or finance. How much of the add on's do you think I can get him to drop?
  • cccompsoncccompson Member Posts: 2,382
TDA (Toyota Dealer Advertising) varies by region. To find out how much it is in your area just ask to see the dealer invoice on a Sienna - TDA will be clearly listed.
  • mjg101mjg101 Member Posts: 15
How do you know that you are looking at the manufacturers invoice and not looking at an invoice that the dealer printed up?

Van with the following: HT XLE Limited Package #3, RF Rear Spoiler, CF Carpet Floor Mats/Sill Protector and Artic Frost Pearl $39,410 out the door.

    $36,449 Price with options
    $500.00 Toyota Dealer Advertising
    $2,461.00 T.T.L.

Unless I am missing something it looks like it is $968.00 below TMV. Cash sale no trade. I think that I did okay. I hope so since I will pick up the van Wed. this week.
  • mjg101mjg101 Member Posts: 15
In my post above it should have said $468.00 below TMV not $968.00.

I live in Texas which means the dreaded Gulf States dealerships. We actually just purchased a Toyota Tacoma at Universal Toyota (San Antonio) last year and although we got a decent price, it was a nightmare. Now I'm in the market for a Sienna and want to forgo the games. Am considering buying from darcars or Fitzmall in the DC area. I have free airline tickets, but am tempted to purchase the vehicle and have it shipped. I haven't seen very many personal accounts of this. Have any of you taken this route?

I emailed mycarcarrier.com days ago for a quote but still haven't received it. Dealer thinks it will cost about $800. I have read to have vehicle extensively photographed. Is there a charge for this? I just want to have all of the facts before I make a commitment. Any additional costs I need to be aware of?

    thanks, bliss

I have a side-question? Can someone explain to me why the Gulf-States Region has such a bad reputation with Toyota dealerships? Is the supply just so poor that there's no negotiating room?
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
It's just that the distributor (Gulf States Toyota) adds quite a lot of junk on the vehicles. Things like "rental car assistance" and "paint protectant". The problem is not that they offer these things, it's that they put them on 90% of all Toyotas sold in their domain, making this junk quite hard to avoid.

Also, while vacationing in Florida I have seen ads for Tundra and Sequoia XSP Sport packages, which includes some Enkei wheels, leather seats, and trim, selling for far more than the value of those things seperately.

I would recommend flying into Maryland/D.C and buying a Toyota from one of the 3 no haggle places there: Darcars, Fitzmall, or CarMax-Laurel Toyota.
  • followyourblisfollowyourblis Member Posts: 23
The worthless add-ons (sealant, pinstriping) are bad enough, but to me the far greater problem is the inability to get desired features without buying an XLE. For instance, I want traction control, which means an LE with option package #3. However, just try to find one in Texas. Dealership websites don't even list this combo as "available." Inquiries in emails and visits go unanswered (although there is a promise to respond in the next day or so, it never happens).

I negotiated a price $200 over invoice (for the Tacoma) at one GS dealership only to show up and find they added $1500.00 in "advertising costs", financing charge (even though I was paying by check--salesman couldn't explain except to say "we charge this to everybody"). Of course, I left, but other GS dealerships were no better: they provided incorrect information (I knew more about the vehicles than their salesmen) or outright tried to deceive me into accepting a higher-priced vehicle than I agreed on in another attempted purchase.

I think I'm just going to do as jchan2 suggests and fly into the area, then drive my purchase back. I have basically decided against shipping as there are too many variables to account for.

hi i just purchase a sienna le package #1 with floor mats from City Toyota (2006) for a price of $21,388. and it is out the door approx. $23,500 after $1000 rebate. i also finance through the credit union at 5.25% apr for 5 years. it is an 7 seater not 8. i believe this this the best deal i can find. good luck for those of u who r still hunting for a good deal. and i am from the sf bay area. thx

What would be a good price to pay for a Sienna Limited with Pkg 3? The lone dealer in my area with a Sienna equipped with Navigation is offering $36,029 after all discounts and the $1000 off coupon the Nashville area dealers are offering.

I have a feeling the dealer could go lower, but the price right now is below TMV, even after you add back the $1000 coupon.

I'm still on the fence about buying as of right now, but things could change...

    Hi Everyone,

Melody Toyota has Sienna LE 7 seater advertised for 20,900 this weekend. Looks like an excellent deal if you are hunting for a Sienna.
  • mjg101mjg101 Member Posts: 15
Does the $36,029 include the TDA and what about the processing fee? If you only have T.T.L. to add to the $36,029 then you have a very good offer. I do know that most Tenn. dealers have a $300 to $350 added cost for processing the paper work. If it does not include the TDA and the processing fee then you can do a little better. I ended up at $36,949 (includes TDA and no processing fee) for the same van except I also added rear spoiler and Artic Frost Pearl. I asume that your price has the floor mats included. $39,410.00 out the door. Good luck.

Processing fee is not included I think, but the offer has expired. (48 hours starting Friday) and I think I'm going to wait until the year end closeout sales to buy, so it's all moot.

Plus I'm hoping another Nashville area dealer gets a Sienna with Navigation in their inventory as Beaman Toyota currently has a monopoly.
  • easye2easye2 Member Posts: 26
$24587 was before taxes, but it included everything else except the extended warranty. I am not familiar with the market in Florida. I think the midwest market is very similar to what I experienced for a price in the Minneapolis, MN area. What was so unique was the great experience I had with the internet sales woman, she was great. Good Luck. :)

I got a better price from Gary Force than I did from Beaman in Nashville. Gary Force is currentl giving another $750.00 off. This helped me get the cost under invoice. Today is the last day for this sale. They also did not have the van on the lot. They located it for me. Beaman's price sounded good until I talked out the door price.

Does anyone know what the regional incentives for the Sienna are for the month of May? Are they still the same? As of yesterday, I know the Gulf States rebate was $750 and DC area was $1000.

2 weeks ago I visited the Toyota dealerships near Minneapolis. In the end, I felt like my money wasn't enough as to qualify me as a Sienna buyer. There was one dealer, on White Bear, that when asked about showing me a AWD XLE, send me to the lot in the front to see'em (no keys, no nothing). In all dealerships, I was said not to even wish for invoice. Then, on Edmunds, I send a message to the dealers, and 6 days have past, and there's no info on response. Is the service like that, after I buy a vehicle?

Though I ended up purchasing a Honda Odyssey, I wanted to post a bad dealer experience I had at Lustine Toyota (Northern VA). This past week, my wife, my 9 month old son, and I went to drive the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, and Chrysler T&C back to back since the dealers are all within two miles of each other.

To make a long story short, the salesman who helped us barely spoke English (we really could not understand him, and he could barely understand us as he was from India and was only here temporarily while his wife worked at the Embassy), but he was very nice. I made it very clear up front that we were looking at three differnt vans that morning (starting with the Toyota) and were planning on comparing notes over dinner, sleeping on it, then making our decision the next day. I simply wanted to test drive the van and get their best offer on paper (I had already received several Internet quotes from Toyota dealers and was aware that it was end of month and that Toyota was offering a 1K rebate).

The test drive went okay (I asked to drive an XLE and he brought over an LE, and the van had mud all over the inside). Minus the communication problems the drive went well, and both my wife and I spent about 30 minutes taking turns driving the van. We came back to the dealer, and I told the salesman that we appreciated his time and could we get a writen "best offer" on the van so we could go to the Honda dealer. I explained that we were pressed for time, and asked him to hurry. This is when the trouble started.. The polite salesman told me he needed to consult with his sales manager "to get me the best offer". After keeping me waiting for about 15-20 minutes (remember, I am here with my wife and 9 month old) I get up to leave and the sales manager comes rushing over. I tried to be nice, but he had a "know-it-all" attitude and told me that he was "not going to let me leave until he put me in a Toyota Sienna". I told him that we had never owned a minivan before and wanted to make an "informed" decision. We wanted to drive the Honda and Chrysler van as well, but that we liked the Sienna and just wanted his best offer so we could make a decision. He stood there and berated the Odyssey and T&C and told me that the Sienna was the only van for me and that he would "blow me away with an offer" if I bought it right then and there. I again told him that I did not work that way and that buying a 30K van (I was considering either a Sienna XLE, Odyysey EX-L, and T&C Touring or Limited) is not something that you rush into. I again asked him to write the "out the door price" of the van down on paper so we could go. He preceded to tell me that "first I needed to make up my mind right then and there that I wanted the Sienna and he would make me an incredible offer". I looked around at the empty dealership, laughed and told him we were leaving to go and drive the Honda (at this point he had wasted nearly 45 minutes of my time). I told him that the salesman had my contact info if he wanted to call and give me the OTD price of the van. He cracked on the Odyssey one more time and then I told him the price that the Honda dealer down the street offered me on an 06 Odyssey EX-L ($27.5K w/freight). I asked if he could match that with a Sienna XLE (w/leather and stability control), and he told me that the price from Honda was too good to be true. So we walked out the door, and he never even gave me a quote. Guess, what. I got my Honda Odyssey EX-L for 27.5K + TTL and no sales or financing gimmicks the next day...

Now too be fair, I did email several other Toyota dealers and had a very positive experience with both Fitzmall and Jack Taylor's Toyota. Neither could come close to getting me a Sienna XLE (w/leather and stability control) for the price of the Honda Odyssey, but I would recommend them as they were professional and up front. Stay away from Lustine...

I wonder if the price would go lower as we approach the year end clearances...
  • jchan2jchan2 Member Posts: 4,956
In what way is it not working? Is it totally inoperable, or is just a portion of it unuseable? The primary reason I'm willing to spend extra money on a navigation system is for the backup camera, which on a recent QX56 loaner car, was very helpful when backing.
  • mjg101mjg101 Member Posts: 15
You would think that the price would be lower, but it depends on how well cars are selling in the fall. Right now car sales are bad so there are good deals out there. You did not ask, but I have the NAV and I like it. I have not taken any trips yet, but I have played around with it. It is pretty easy to use, I did not even read the instructions. Just follow the prompts. We are getting new cell phones (bluetooth) in a couple weeks and I can't wait to try the bluetooth set up in the van. I never though that I would own a van, but now that I have one I want to go on a trip, which is unusuall for me. I do not take much time off from work.
