Wishful thinking on my part I guess. I haven't seen October sales broken down by model, but Toyota sales for October rose in the double digits.

Sales Fell in October for G.M. and Ford (NY Times)

Just went by a Toyota dealer today (Manchester CT) w 5 on the lot unsold (2 CEs, didn't notice the other 3). Seems like they are finally getting caught up. This dealership has had a grand total of one unsold on the lot in the last 3 months (I go by there often).
  • kinctkinct Member Posts: 59
Why "live with" a bad trade in from the dealer?? You're giving the dealer two sources of profit.

I have had dealers tell me "they would take the car off our hands" (meaning $0.00). We sold that for $800 (first buyer, very HAPPY to pay 800, we probably could have gotten 1000-1200 for it).

Just sold another for $4,000 (best dealer offer was $2500, but we did $3-400 worth of work on the car, so net was $1100-1200 over best dealer offer).

    Sell it yourself!!

For a moment last week, I thought of not leaving posts anymore, BECAUSE someone (indyjones) few days after my

POST # 2332 LEFT messg. of $2000 off on XLE.($200 more)

I wasn't upset because I always also say to ask for more discount if you can.

BUT for a moment, I thought some of you might be thinking that I am being compensated by this salesperson OR dealership for referrals.
But just also I had the best car buying experience of my life from this wonderful car sales professional who I believe just simply:
"TREATS PEOPLE THE WAY HE LIKES TO BE TREATED"

TO Prove his professionalism, CO-INCIDENTALLY ON SAME DAY when I was verifying discount with "INDYJONES"
without my knowledge my Nephews Friend
PLACED an ORDER FOR AN XLE pkg 13, He was given "2100 off MSRP " which was $100 more than indyjones post.
I still kept posting messages because I know what I went through some dealers' attitudes, un-professionalism , Lies etc. even at their
OFFERS OF "MSRP" PRICES OR COUPLE 100s OFF.

ON THE OTHER HAND, posts like from "MISSING IN CHICAGO" WHO have benefited from my post make me VERY HAPPY, I feel little bit "ACCOMPLISHED".

" Missinginchicago " on this forum got a van "IMMEDIATELY AVAILABLE" which he could NOT get from "BENNETT TOYOTA" for waiting over 4 months. This dealer not only did not supply vans to many customers but also gave hard time "REFUNDING DEPOSITS".

SO TO OEM1, read my post "2332" dated oct.21 for 2 LEs in 8 pass + more available then in 2 weeks delivery and I don't know what is available as of " Today " and How much discount it is today?
Infact, I have to call and find out on CE 8 pass. in pkg.3
As always I say, Try for more but here you won't even have to ask, He will do what he can without asking and "so far he has meant what he has said" which makes me think that's the way he is.

OH YA, I am glad I remember that based on some posts here lately if you call TOYOTA, they might reimburse for additional discount (maybe couple 100only) but you will have to stay with BENNETT
    ONLY.
BUT as Sticker Price I don't think you should stay with them.

I hope that is subtle enough for moderators. I have spent many a Sunday in Tulsa telling window shoppers that Gulf States is not everywhere and choices are 100 miles away.
those of you living in OK/AR/TX and Miss? are getting ripped off if you even think of buying one off those ridiculous loaded up Toyotas in these states. Honda rarely pulls such tactics.
History lesson: gulf states is alive because 40 years ago they created a distributorship that aggreed to sell once junky little Toyotas and boy did the relationship pay off and still works today. Here is how it works. Gulf States diverts Toyota cars to their Houston pin stripe shop where they make a new added sticker with things like lusterizing paint sealent, door edge guards, 100k mile tire warranty ($200), VIN etching, running boards, spoilers, gold packages, ding dongs, nic nacs, give a dog a bone.
I refused to by my 2001 Sienna there and simply drove 100 miles to Missouri and bought one without those little adds (some have $5000 of gulf states "port installed" items. Port--what port these vans are made in Indiania then rerouted to Houston. And to put icing on the cake. Gulf states increases shipping to cover the diversion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wholeheartedly agree. The internet salesmanager of a dealership in Arlington, TX posted an inappropriate advertisement on one of the discussion boards a few weeks ago that was promptly deleted. He stated that they had 50 Siennas in stock all at 1000.00 over invoice! If it sounds too good to be true... Went to their website and true they had lots of Siennas in stock each and every one had all kinds of "Special protection" packages, DVD players, hood protectors, trailer hitches etc. So my question is- whose invoice are we talking about the bloated almost ready to burst invoice or my real invoice. Didn't call-not in the mood for games.

As a DFW denison, I'm glad I succumbed to the too-tempting clearance offer on a 2003 Yukon XL as the way to satisfy our family's 8-passenger conveyance desire. It sounds like a Sienna LE8 deal from this area would have been hard to come by even next year. Thanks, guys!

I just think that for someone to do business with a dealer and then come to a public forum and bash them speaks miles for them.

If you live in a Gulf States area, you need to do what I did. Tell the dealer (at manager or even owner level) that fabric protection and pinstripes have no value for you, and you're not willing to pay them for it. Then ask them to get one for you without the Gulf States markup. It worked for me.
  • rorrrorr Member Posts: 3,630
I've even seen 'fabric protection' on cars with leather interiors. Talk about your extraneous add-ons.......
  • indyjonesindyjones Member Posts: 49
on xle awd, package 17, and still waiting for the vehicle to arrive at the dealership. The vehicle enquiry report says the van was shipped on 10/17.

I wonder if the dealer sneaked the van to a higher paying customer...

My salesman says the car should be here any day now.

Anyone else has similar experience? How long does it take to gee to the dealer after shipment from factory?
  • inky4inky4 Member Posts: 238
That is one way I have seen this work. You are rare since most do not know this and most think the junk is Normal. Heck, Gulf States even makes a little window sticker that adds to the factory sticker on the side. It looks seamless except for the price. However, I feel that there is not a level playing field when you order the plain jane. You see, they accomodate you on securing non gussied up van and then discount not so easy? If all vans on lot are from factory without Gulf States many adds that is a level playing field to me. You are correct though. At times you can ask the correct person for non gussied up Toyota in Gulf States and they will make a special request. However, 95% of Toyotas in those states are sold with the junk. I am not exaggerating up to $5000 of adds. I have seen even $7000 if you can imagine that. I only wanted to advise folks to not pay this, there are ways to get without the adds.

For folks who saw posting last week about problems with Bennett Toyota - after calling and faxing request for return of deposit on 10/23/03, still did not have funds returned as of 11/5/03. (haven't checked today). Have filed dispute with ccard company and sent them the Bennett paperwork that showed deposit fully refundable is van was not delivered by 10/14/03 (which it wasn't). We would probably still be waiting or have bought another type of vehicle(MDX) if finding Motorworld Wilkes Barre had not been our luck and joy. So don't believe that Bennett will immediately refund your deposit or ever get your van. However, there are success stories just may take some work and luck.
  • racewalkerracewalker Member Posts: 20
hmm... I'm also waiting for a XLE AWD with package 17... Could we be waiting for the same car? Did you put a deposit down?

looking to buy the above. MSRP ~$35,600.
How much off MSRP is expected in today's market?
  • indyjonesindyjones Member Posts: 49
Dealer called today, picked it up tonight. (artic frost). Wife wanted a darker color, but this is all they had when I ordered and put the deposite on 2 weeks ago. So far very impressed. Will post again when I get to drive a bit more.

Few questions for previous owners. This car came with a rear audio system, but I want to add a DVD system. Will I be still able to use the rear audio if I install a DVD system? I got the impression from the dealer that they will have to take the rear audio controller out to install the DVD system.

BTW, I was only able to get $500 off MSRP.

    Thanks.

How does a dealership with sooooo many negative posts keep getting business? I guess some people have to see it for themselves before they find out that Bennett does not deliever what they promise. Not only did Bennett sour me on their dealership. They drove me right into my Honda Odyssey, $1000 over invoice with roof rack and bug deflector free. Oh ya... floor mats are included.
  • indyjonesindyjones Member Posts: 49
Last few years I bet most people were paying MSRP for the odysseys....
  • oem1oem1 Member Posts: 4
My headache has been cured. Thanks bobbya2. I called Motorworld in Wilkes-Barre earlier this week and guess what? They had the same exact car I had ordered from a dealer near our house in July (they wanted full sticker.) Only problem is I've got to drive 3 hrs to get there. But I'm paying less than MSRP, getting a fair shake on my trade and they're throwing in a security system and floor mats. caveat emptor.
  • lok888lok888 Member Posts: 1,788
I think Toyota is doing a better job than Honda. They are both hot minivan when they first introduced. The supply for Sienna seems getting picked up after 9 months of production. For Odyssey, long wait and MSRP from late '98 to early '03. Anyway the dealers are always the winners. It's just how much you can beat them.
  • soccerdad99soccerdad99 Member Posts: 6
Picked up my LE 8 pass with BW and floormats for 2,300 under MSRP. MSRP is 28,100. I paid 25,799 for the van. Out of door price (including 6% PA sales tax) was 27,500.

Would highly recomend Motor World in Wilkes Barre PA - e-mail me at jvasey@excite.com for more details. Great buying experience!!

    Would not recomend Bennett Toyota!!!!

After searching and searching all of the dealerships here in Virginia---- Shelor in Christiansburg was able to locate a Sienna LE Package #7 Stratosphere Blue for me and let me have it for $1,000 over invoice $26,452. Shelor is able to do that because they are a volume dealer and get better pricing from the manufacturer.

I'm in Lynchburg Va. which is about 1 1/2 hours from Shelor and the Lynchburg dealership Oakridge Toyota which is a joke, wanted full sticker for the same van which was $28,051, and they wouldn't even let me know if they could locate one for me unless I would first put down $1,000 bucks and be obligated to buy it when it came in.

Shelor is tops in my book and I will be going back to them for future vehicles.

Oh, and buy the way, I am loving the van so far.....the dark blue color is the best in my opinion!
  • danogdanog Member Posts: 318
Unionview, where did you buy yours? We checked today and it was the usual low availability and straight sticker, ~$36,000. Manager told me it would be 1-2 years before the prices fall. I'm no buying expert but I'm no idiot either!
I live in Alabama and Sienna's aren't widley available.
I did notice some transmission slipage when we test drove an XLE this morning. We really like this vehicle but I'm not paying MSRP or $200 below because of Toyota's Econ 101 tactics!

Help!!! My Villager is on its last legs and I want to buy the Sienna XLE Ltd with no other options. Went to a dealer here in the Princeton area and they are telling me it will cost me around $40K. Also, 12 week wait. I argued that MSRP was 35,020. They said, if I could get it for that, I should walk fast. They are telling me MSRP is 39,000. I am willing to travel. Any advice on good dealers out of this area would be appreciated. I'm about ready to give up and go with an outdated 2003 Odyssey. Thanks
  • rodc1rodc1 Member Posts: 36
Unfortunately you may have to travel because this is a "hot" vehicle. My local dealers tried the same tactic-no discount only will consider MSRP. None of the usual "come back let's work something out". Almost felt a foot on my non-msrp paying butt on the way out the door. There are deals to be had as evidenced on this message board. I stumbled on mine by contacting costco. If you just go back about a 2-3 weeks you'll find people who have found discounts in your area of ~1800-2000 off MSRP. You may have to wait but if you do at least you'll get a discount.
  • kinctkinct Member Posts: 59
Look through past messages in this forum as to how people found their deals. It takes some work, but the rewards can be worth it (no guarantees).

I used emails (give them a price YOU want to pay - be realistic though, hit many dealerships, sift through answers). You will find many won't answer, others will answer "MSRP" (or close to it). You just may find someone to come close or accept your offer. BTW, some folks have done the above with faxes.

    It's a challenge! Good luck.

BTW, we probably hit about 8-10 dealers until we found one that accepted our offer. GET IT IN WRITING, signed by someone with the authority to make the deal. Especially if you have to travel a distance, KNOW THE FINAL PRICE before you drive there.
  • bobbya2bobbya2 Member Posts: 35
I am so glad that you got even better discount than my nephews friend got $2100 on XLE pkg.16(changed from 13 for faster delivery) about 2 weeks back.

Also sounds like , you bought one of the 2 LEs in 8 passengers I posted which I would recommend even to smaller families.
Even more what makes me Happy is that
MOTORWORLD TOYOTA IN WILKES BARRE, PA near POCONOS
has replace Bennett Toyota who not only changed their PRICES, but also gave hard time refunding money on their UN-DELIVERED VANS.

ALSO, please look up on EDMUNDS here for packages available for XLE and on TOYOTA.com for exact packages available in your area.
GO on either or both websites and build you vehicle there and then call dealer or if you wish you may email me or soccerdad for salespeople's name which I am not allowed to post here.

    ANYWAY, MARLENELIN
I would recommend you to call Motorworld Toyota
in Wilkes Barre , PA and place order and ask for atleast 2500 off MSRP because SOCCERDAD got 2300 off on LE.
But I must tell you that you will be WASTING YOUR TIME in NJ.
They are a very BIG dealership aswell, and they have been getting VANS which other Dealers could not get in months.
After I introduced MOTORWORLD here on this FORUM, Couple of members have bought already and all are Happy with their buying EXPERIENCE.
PLUS they have been increasing discount every week.
  • marlenelinmarlenelin Member Posts: 87
Just checked out CostCo. They no longer offer the Sienna in their Auto Program because of the lack of availability. I also went to Motorworld's website and asked for a quote. Hopefully, will receive it tomorrow. Thanks Marlene
  • mercier1mercier1 Member Posts: 14
I received a quote on an XLE with package #14 from Teagler Toyota in Brenham Texas at $2800.00 below their listed MSRP. However, the itemized vehicle price differed from what I found via Edmonds and Consumer Report. I am curious what the following line items mean. The dealer rep said he did not know what they were but I had to include them in the invoice price price. Any help is appreciated.

    T.D.A.............$275.00
    M.A.F.............$389.00

    Thanks,
    Paul
  • corpuscorpus Member Posts: 37
T.D.A. is Toyota Dealer Advertising, I think. They tell you that Toyota makes them pay that, and it does not go on their profit line. Ask them why other dealers don't charge it.

M.A.F? Just another 3 initials that mean "profit." What you need to do is say to the dealer, OK, you get 2% dealer holdback (according to Consumer Reports). That's about $600 on the vehicle you list. Then, $2800 below MSRP is equal to $1,800 over invoice on that vehicle, so that's $2,400 profit so far. Then, they want to add $664 in 3-initial profits, for a total profit of over $3,000?

Take that argument back to them. Tell them you're willing to give them $1,500 or $2,000 profit, because it's a popular vehicle, and see what they say.
  • hatcher8hatcher8 Member Posts: 6
It took me 3 days of emails and phone calls but I signed the papers on a 8 passanger LE with option#1 and floor mats for 24,420. By my best estimate that is 3.8%, or lets just say 4% above invoice according to edmunds.com. If you are in the market for the best price here is what I would suggest. Create a form letter in your word processor that describes the vehicle you are looking for. Include the model, option packages and accessories desired. Tell them that you are willing to pay 2% above invoice, are a serious buyer and will be paying with cash. Use toyota.com to get toyota dealers names near you. Call each dealership and ask to speak with their "Inter net salesperson". Most dealers will have one sales person that is good with email and you will be given that person. Speak with them and get their email address telling them you will be sending them the request via email and would like them to respond. Some dealers will not even respond, others will tell you they do not sell below MRSP and hopefully a few will give you a good offer. 2 dealerships that I know of in the midwest that offer good deals are: rodgersmithtoyota.com in KC MO and Crown toyota in Lawerance Kansas. They both offered me a vehicle at or below 4% above invoice. When you have our best offer and are ready to buy you can always go back to your local dealer and give them a chance to match the bid.

I have been researching this minivan purchase for 6 months now and find the Edmunds web site and townhall very helpful. I took the approach that hatcher8 did and emailed 21 dealerships within a 3-4 hour radius (western North Carolina) for a XLE awd with pkg #17. 16 responded, 14 MRSP, 2 below MRSP. Toyota Center (Columbia, SC)was about $2000 below MRSP but had a 16-20 week wait. Dave Edwards (Spartanburg, SC) $1500 below MRSP, but hasn't provided delivery date info. I've decided to go with a local dealer who says he can do $500 off MRSP and deliver in 45-60 days (optimistic on the delivery date?). This is similar to the deal that indyjones shared with us (post #2491). From the posts on this forum, the pricing seems to be dependent on the trim you're interested in, region of the country, how far you're willing to go to get your van, and how soon you want it. Although I'd rather keep more of my hard earned money in my wallet and not give the dealer such a handsome profit, this is a great, safe family vehicle. I anticipate keeping this vehicle for as long as any other car I've owned (7-8+ years). I could try and wait another year to see if prices cool down, but our family is busting at the seams in our current sedan every time we go for more than an hour's drive. Good luck to everyone in this hunt, I hope some of this information is helpful to other shoppers.

    Hello Mr. Steve
I would appreciate if you could try to edit my message by inserting spaces between Dealer Cost and MSRP numbers to make them meaningful as I tried and re-tried and could not edit.
When I edit, in my version the SPACES are there and numbers are shown in 2 separate columns , but when I re-edit and post , they are still same in the posted message as they are now.
    THANKS in advance.

Sorry, Bobbyya2 - that's a feature of our software and spaces like that get collapsed. It's about impossible to put a grid or table in a message. One way to get around it is to use dots....

Hosts can't edit posts so your options are to delete and repost or just figure that people will understand what you mean (I did). Apologies,

I bought this vehicle with this package and the following add-ons: CF-floormats, N1-mirror,
RF-spoiler,and the Arctic Frost color which adds to the cost for $32,660.00. The dealer threw in an extra wireless headset because I have three children. According to the KBB site, retail is $36,445.00 and invoice price is $31,667.00. I did all negotiating over the net and when I got to the dealer there were no other surprises or added costs. I checked Edmunds and Nada and they were all within a few dollars of KBB on this van. The dealer is approximately 100 miles from where I reside and was the only one who would sell the van at this price. I talked with numerous dealers in a 5 state area before I bought. The wife and kids love it and the van has performed as the dealer and owner's manual states. As an afterthought I noticed that the local dealer got a shipment of 4 new Siennas on the lot since the weekend. Maybe as they become more plentiful prices will come down a bit.

I just got an email from my dealer. My Sienna will be build on 11/17 and the deliver time will be on 12/7. I ordered the van on 10/18. My van is LE-7, FWD, with LE package #7, VIP RS3200 alarm and floor mats & door sills protectors. MSRP = $28138. Price paid = $26300 plus fees and registration.

When a dealer doesen't have sienna's that usually means one of two things. 1, they haven't sold enough to earn one unsold. 2, they have just completly sold out. Other than for the sake of having one to show people Sienna's on the lot actually HURT dealers right now. The reason is when you have an unsold unit on the lot you can't earn very many others on allocation to fill orders until that one,or a # of any sitting on the lot, are sold. Thats why we put the first one in our shuttle program, so we'll always have one to show and drive. But we can't sell it, it actually titled to the dealership.

toycar04, sounds like you got a great deal!

bobbya2, right now worrying about what the invoice price is will probably make more people mad b/c MOST dealers will not negotiate from invoice on a sienna. Like you said kbb and edmunds are usually fairly accurate. (aside from distributers fees & options)

    To Marelenelin:

I got my 04 XLE LTD with pkg #6 (NAV and DVD),floor mats, glass breakage sensor, arctic frost pearl (extra $) two weeks ago from Palo Alto Toyota (San Jose California area)for $37178.00. I waited for 8 weeks. I can't mention the sales person who sold me the car on this board. If you are interested, I will be more than happy to e-mail you all the info.

Do the prices you quoted in your message include the following charges: T.D.A. ; M.A.F. ; 2% holdback MSRP ; 1% finance reserve MSRP?

I sent e-mail requests to 15 dealerships with an offer to buy at 3% over invoice and received multiple replies. However, the invoices the dealers are quoting from include:

    T.D.A. ............$275.00
    M.A.F. .............389.00
    2% Holdback MSRP ...565.00
    1% Finance reserve .282.00

    Total add on of $1511.00

I spoke with a neighbor who sells for Acura and he explained that the T.D.A is the Toyota Dealer's Association fee charged to the Sales department by the dealership. It is a cost of business that the sales department is trying to pass on to the consumer. The M.A.F. is the advertising fee that is also an expense to the sales department but not to the dealership. The 2% holdback is paid to the dealership by Toyota when the vehicle is sold and is part of the profit on the vehicle, but the sales department is listing it as an expense to be paid by the consumer and in effect doubling the hold back profit. I did not get a good explaination about the 1% Finance Reserve. I was advised by my neighbor to explain to the Toyota salesperson that these added fees are part of the cost of doing business just like the electricity bill. When I mentioned this to the salespersons I met a brick wall of resistance. Each and every salesperson refused to negoiate these fees. Is the execption or the rule?

Jerry, thank you for your response. You got a great price on your Ltd., but unfortunately I live in NJ so I couldn't buy through your dealer.

I am becoming very frustrated. I have been told by several dealers that Toyota no longer makes the Ltd without the DVD option. I would rather not have the DVD, since I know my teenage daughter would be watching it than reading or sleeping on long trips. I emailed about 15 Toyota dealers and have heard from 8 of them. A few promised to call me after talking to me, but haven't. Motorworld said they can try to get me the vehicle (at $1800 off MSRP) , but can't promise it. I appreciate their honesty. In the meantime, I have been told by my service station that repairs to my current vehicle will exceed over $2k and it is not worth fixing it (this is after we just put $1500 into the van). Now I remember why I hate shopping for new cars. Marlene

After calling well over 20 dealerships within the west coast, I finally got a guy up in Oregon to sell me one for 1900$ off MSRP. Everyone around CA and southern OR wanted full MSRP.
My build date was 9/23/03 and the vehicle arrived 10/21/03. It was well worth the wait, I've had c5 Corvettes and Porsches but have never been so exited with a new vehicle like this van. I must be getting old at 38 but the AWD performs like an oversized Subaru WRX. My family loves it and I think its one of the safest vehicles on the market. Can't wait till TRD gets off the fence and builds a blower for the 3.3L motor. Good luck to everyone trying to get one.

If there is a way for me to e-mail an attachment to you I can send you (or anyone else who wants it) a copy of the dealer invoice with the line items on it. It is very self explanatory. My direct e-mail is mercierpdj3@hotmail.com. Please identify yourself with something reverencing Sienna so that I do not mistakenly delete your message as junk mail. P.S. I'd like to see a copy of your sticker.

If anyone is interested (I am still months away) there is a Silver Shadow Pearl CE w/ pkg #3 and floormats at Conicelli Toyota. No idea how they are with prices - had a rough time of it with a Corolla for my mom 3 years back, but father-in-law has had good experience there.

Would you please give the details of the dealership you bought from and or which Coast are you in?
I am sure many of us here would like to Make a deal like Your deal.

Because my nephews friend Placed order about 2+ weeks back on same vehicle with MOTORWORLD TOYOTA IN WILKES BARRE, PA.
Their price was 1800 off then, but since they had
XLE PKG.16 coming faster than pkg.13 and we took it , so dealer gave addn'l 300 off at 2100 off MSRP.
THANKS & GOOD LUCK with your Van, I am sure you are enjoying it.
