edmunds invoice 28437
dealer invoice 28997
paid 29711+89 doc fee
I live in Charlotte NC and could not find any deals near what i got from this dealer in SC. It took me 2 1/2 hour get there and saved more than 1500. I nego with dealers in my surrounding area outside of charlotte vie email and this is the best deal i got ( it beat 2nd best by $400). They are very professional and handle my order, questions well and all my experience with them was very pleasent. IF you are close to south carolina and willing to drive a little bit. try them out in Sumter, SC first before elsewhere.
Thanks!
Can you share the dealer info to banums@acm.org
Thanks
the sale person was a newbie and it was the manager who kind of controlled the negotiations.
Dealer took 2k off MSRP, down to $39k.
Good deal? Another dealer wanted same for HE package.
MSRP $36,035 (with rear spoiler, towing package, carpet mats and all weather rubber mats), and my out the door price is $33,400. A savings of $2635.00. This price includes TTL and all other "junk" fees. (Spoiler looks awesome!)
I live in VA, but after having no success locally, and emailing 50+ dealerships nationwide, I purchased from Eddie Wiggins Toyota in GA. They shipped the car to my door with 3 miles on it for $300. I am very pleased with Eddie Wiggins, the salesman was responsive and honest. It was actually a pleasant experience.
I used the delivery checklist (1.06) and had Eddie Wiggins change several door lock and gear settings for me. Email me if you want additional info.
Thank you everbody, as I never could have done this without all your help!
Congratulations on your Great deal!!!
please let me know the name of the sales person at eddiewiggins toyota. Also, how can i send email to you to get more information on this deal.
Also, what is the delivery checklist that you are referring to?
Thanks,
After an hour and a half of negotiations we agreed on $27,500 with an after market Audiovox dvd system installed with 4 wireless headsets. I was happy enough. Until the standard $349 charge for dealer prep showed up. I refused to pay it and he refused to take it off. Via phone he told me that if I toke delivery that day that the $349 would be taken off. When I arrived to pickup the van they refused to remove the $349. After a much heated discussion I WALKED!!! Millenium Toyota in Hempstead NY.....BUYER BEWARE!!
I can definitely recommend (at least in this area) getting quotes over the phone via the internet/fleet managers if you like the less pressure, intelligent, no-nonsense style.[Actually, faxed is better!] You still have to go over the details (and extra fees) and negotiate. But it beats in-face, heavy pressure, etc. Having said that, the best deal is coming in so far from a motivated salesperson (which would save us several hundred over the best internet deal). I'll post more end of the weekend.
Thanks!
I also have to remove too many posts that tout individuals. Please read the blurb at the top and limit the contact info to the dealer and location. That discourages shill posts by ringers too. Thanks!
Steve, Host
You'll need to consider the cost of transport and whether you want it driven to you or carried on a truck (and whether you want it enclosed or not).
The paperwork should have some sort of back out clause so you can refuse delivery if the van arrives damaged or doesn't confirm to the purchase order.
You may want to shop the deal locally one last time before signing on the dotted line too; maybe a local dealer will meet the price to keep your business in town. Good luck!
Steve, Host
My concern is without the literal walk-away number (which they're happy to provide verbally over the phone), there's a high potential "their" final figure won't match "our" final figure. We don't want to end up playing games once we're at the dealership ready to sign. Though we will walk away if it's not the right price.
Also, can anyone confirm we shouldn't pay tax on a dealer prep fee?
The dealer shipped the van on a trailer for $300.00. The driver had all the paper work. If I had a problem with it, I planned on simply refusing delivery. I faxed the delivery checklist to them in advance and asked them to use it and that I would be using it. The van arrived with 3 miles on it.
The whole experience went very smooooth!

Mackabee
Does anyone have experience buying extended warranties?
I presume it's possible to negotiate a discount, perhaps a substantial one. If so, can anyone recommend a good buy/negotiating strategy?
My first thought: contact the dealer I purchased my LE from and offer to purchase the warranty thru it, but only if I can do so at a discount. My second: send faxes or emails to local dealerships (of which there are many in the SF Bay and Sacramento areas).
The whole thing's made me feel ill- which convinces me to take a little time off to get some balance and perspective. We do have another offer at 1.5% over Colorado invoice on a preorder at a different dealer where they seemed more upfront the entire time; but I qualify that by adding once you add in their fees, etc., the reality is it comes in at 3% over invoice for the final price plus tax.
Mackabee's totally right about the manager's power. Again, what annoys me is sales' implication the final walk-out-the-door is X (whatever percent over invoice, plus sales tax) and in reality, it's NOT. Those extra fees add up and can make a large difference.
Anyone else looking to buy in this area should feel free to request my email if they have questions or want to share experiences. Currently, I'm finding 3% over Colorado invoice to be the best deal. And I'll keep this board posted if we go ahead with the preorder (and what that experience is like).
Note: the pricing I'm using (when I do % over invoice) is final amount before taxes, then add the tax of wherever you live. This seems a clearer figure to use for calculations of the deal being negotiated.
Cheers....
XLE Limited: $29,652
Limited Pkge #5: $1,560
Carpet/Door Sill: $119
Running Boards: $399
Destination Charge: 540
TDA: 593
Gasoline: 6
Dealer Holdback: 689
Whsl. Financial Reserve: 344
Total: $33,902
So basically the gap between edmunds and what the Northern Calif dealers are saying their invoice is is TDA (what is this-ad fees?), Dealer Holdback (?) and Whsl Financial Reserve (what is this?)
So i would appreciate any comments on specficiallly what the Financial Reserve is and why they would put Holdback into the invoice price.
I do have a dealer who will sell for $500 over this price, but this price already is jam packed with dealer profit-right? thanks.
Only $1100 over Invoice...Can you provide us the dealer name? Thanks.
I am picking up my Sienna on 12/18. Extremely excited since it is coming directly from the factory.
Since I was asked not to post anything detailing the dealer, contact, FIRST LETTER OF THE CONTACT NAME, etc. I will leave my email.
If you want, I will be more than happy to tell you who I went through.

In summary,

MSRP was $39,909.00

Good luck to everyone out there.
Steve, did i keep that one by the rules

dl_c32 in #2779 is correct:
If you add the Invoice + Dealer Holdback and Whsl Financial Reserve, it will come to $30685 invoice that we see on edmunds or KBB...
My comments:
TDA is the regional advertising fee.
Holdback is profit to the dealership's owner and the sales dept. never sees any of it, except perhaps at the annual Xmas party, and can't negotiate it. When a dealer sells below invoice, he is usually compensated in some other way, like an unadvertised factory-to-dealer incentive, or a cash rebate, which would normally go to the customer.
The $6 gasoline charge is fair and reasonable, IMO. The dealer does not take delivery of a vehicle from the factory with much gas in it, yet delivers it to the customer with a full tank (usually). Actually, I'm surprised this fee isn't much higher. (What am I missing?)
I didn't get a good explanation of the Whsl Financial Reserve on the invoice, either. I wonder if it might have something to do with what used to be known as floor planning - the interest charged the dealership on vehicles in stock. (Maybe the floor planning term is still used.) Typically, a dealer did not pay floor planning for the first two weeks after a vehicle arrived from the manufacturer. After that, interest was charged at something like 1% over the prime rate on an annual basis.
Interest is still charged and can add up quickly, but I don't know the mechanics of it in today's market. However, there is some information about the mechanics elsewhere on this Web site. Certainly, the interest will cut into a dealer's profit (e.g., holdback) if a vehicle sits in inventory very long.
All the more reason why the pressure on the sales staff to sell is so intense.
"....I'm making my purchase at Florin; I liked the salesperson the most and the deal was excellent."
That's where I purchased my LE three weeks ago (see my post #2623 for pricing info, but basically $500 or 1.9% over dealer's invoice). Pleasant sales staff to work with.
"I paid....or close to $500 over invoice (if you include TDA in that invoice price; in No. Cal. all dealers were adding TDA, amount depended on their location)."
Right.
"Given the responses from the dealers, the number of cars available is starting to grow; the market is becoming less constrained. There seemed to be too many cars with the DVD +/or NAV in XLE & Limited configurations. I did add on the extended warranty (call me risk averse, but this is the first year of that model and 36K mi for my family is nothing) for $1,295 (Anduril, maybe you can get a better deal) for the Platinum (basically extends manuf. warranty)."
Thanks...and excellent deal!!
P.S. Did anyone notice that all four of the Sacramento Toyota dealerships have been sued for price collusion. Lawsuit filed 12/10 (www.da.saccounty.net/pr/021210_toyota.htm). The allegation: that all agreed not to advertise new car price deals in the newspaper.
For crying out loud.
My humble apologies to you for referencing the wrong message in my post #2785.
Pre-senior moment.
Anyway, I guess for $2500 off the MSRP, I'm doing not to bad. I love this car! Thank you all for your help!!
http://www.siennaclub.org has a poll on how much buyers paid relative to MSRP. With 298 responses, only 13% paid $3000 or more below MSRP. The median appears to be around $1500 off MSRP. A few paid over MSRP. If this poll is accurate, Edmund's TMV is way off.
By the way, where is the dealership located?
Anyway, good luck!
My goal is to get:
Toyota Sienna XLE All Wheel Drive
Preferred Accessory Package (Cargo Nets, Carpet Floor Mats w/Door Sill Protector, First Aid Kit)
XLE Package #17
Auto-Dimming Mirror
$35,348 MSRP
$31,491 Inv
For betwen $31,991-$32,491. We HAVE to have the van by next October (04). We CAN buy as early as FEB so I've got lots of time to try and haggle the price down. That also gives me plenty of time to sell my car.
