"If you buy the 7 yr., $0 deductible extended warranty, what do you pay for during that period besides gasoline? Tires? Battery?"
Best to get that info directly from the horse's mouth; the Financial Services page at www.toyota.com details specifically what is covered with the various manufacturer's warranties. A service advisor at a dealership should be able to provide specific information, too.
The Platinum warranty is the most comprehensive offered by Toyota; in addition to all of the important things, it covers most, if not all, idiot lights and micro switches (which, from my experience with other auto makes, are expensive to replace) when they fail. However, there are some exclusions. Certainly tire wear and probably (but I don't recall for certain!) brake pad wear. The battery likely has only a limited warranty and is, as you suggest, probably not totally covered by the standard 3yr/36K or Platinum warranties, unless it fails as a result of some other problem (like a defective alternator).
Hope that helps.
I live in Southwest CT, go to Boston often and emailed several Toyota dealers (Herb Chambers, etc),no response.
This is the exact color and option package we wanted so our search was limited a bit.
I emailed a local dealer that looked like they had the the van we wanted in their inventory. A couple of hours later I got a quote from them for $29540 plus T & L. I was actually pretty happy with this deal so I did not try to get other quotes to see if I could do better (It would have been interesting to try)
Paid $29540
MSRP $32086
Edmunds invoice $28153 (does not show extra for the Artic Frost Pearl paint)
are you asking about Toyota DVD? In TX, AR, LA, MS, and OK, the Toyota DVD system is a "port-added" option for $1,599 MSRP. I know you're a long way from TX, but that should give you a ballpark figure on what it might cost to get something similar. Also, I have seen postings on aftermarket deals that were less.
"....It sounds like you got a super deal on the warrantee. As you mentioned, the Sacramento dealer where I bought my Sienna did not budge on the Warrantee price. Could you tell me which dealer in Palo Alto quoted you the $1070 and the third dealer that gave you the final price for $770 plus "paperwork". I am only interested in purchasing the warrantee and not the service agreement so I would like to ask these two dealers for the price for warrantee only. I would appreciate it if you could give me the names of the dealers and names of the finance managers (If you can't reveal the name on this board, please e-mail me from my profile info)"
I've made my email address public; feel free to contact me directly.
For people new to this board see my posts #2909 and 2949 for background information.
I purchased my Sienna at Florin Road Toyota in Sacramento just before Thanksgiving. Great deal on vehicle, horrible offer on warranty - no meaningful discount.
I purchased my warranty (Toyota's Platinum, 7yr/100K, 0 deductible) at Putnam Toyota in Burlingame on the SF Peninsula. The finance manager quoted me his cost as $770; he wanted $1250 for the warranty and wouldn't budge on that price until I walked out. He then opened a side door to his office as I walked past and asked if I had purchased any pre-paid maintenance. He said he would sell me the warranty for $950 (my top offer) if he could include Toyota Premium pre-paid maintenance, which he would also discount, in a package deal.
The finance manager of Toyota of Palo Alto quoted me a price of $1070 for the warranty, alone. He wouldn't accept an offer of $1000 and said his cost was $970.
Don't ask me why there is such a discrepancy in dealer costs for this particular warranty.
Guess Who?
2001 Prelude Type SH, 2022 Highlander XLE AWD, 2025 Camry SE AWD
Vic Toyota: Close to -$2300 off but has a bunch of extra stuff on the van and I dont like the color.
Straatmann Toyota: -$1800 but not on the lot.
Lou Fusz Toyota: Started with MSRP -$500 as their "no-haggle" price. I left without buying at -$1500 off in 15min of discussion.
Town & Country Motors: -$1000.
Seeger Toyota: -$500.
Jay Wolfe and Frank Fletcher Toyota were actually higher than MSRP with their fees. Yet people were buying.....
So the range is $200 OVER MSRP to $2300 under. Yikes!!
We bought it in Lexington, Ky
Its a 2004 LE, Desert Sand Mica, Fawn interior(not leather) Option Package BI #4.
Plus mats ZI?
ALso Came with Tires for life program. Which is, if we get our vehicle serviced at the dealership. Everytime we are there they check the treadwear on the tire and once it is below the suggested treadware, they will replace the tires free of charge for the life of the vehicle.
We put $2000 down and got an out the door price of $24,590 tax, title, license included. That was counting our down payment. This being my 1st new car purchase ever, I was just trying to see if we got a good deal or not. After reading some others, I cannot tell, as I am really not very good at the numbers game:) What do you say?
MSRP - $35,600.00
i'm planning to Offer - $34,000.00 Do you think that is reasonable?
I just found this board today and I guess I am feeling a little stupid. I figured I would post my experience to date as I don't think I am as good at this car (minivan) buying thing as many of you are. I ordered my sienna on 8-27-03 and it should be delivered Sat 1-10-04. They keep telling me that the car I ordered (AWD LTD w/pkg #6) is very rare and this is the first one they will of received in this style. I am not sure what to believe but I am eager to get the vehicle.
I am in Cincinnati Ohio and I contacted 3 dealers to get the best price. I will report what happens but the deal we have agreed on is $2300 off list price. Interesting the salesman tried to pull something saying I had to pay $1500 for a "power package". Fortunately I had my Edmunds info there and I called a salesman from another dealer from his office. Obviously I didn't pay the $1500.
I will post a follow up when I get my vehicle. I am sure they will try and sell me the rust proofing and low ball me on my 2000 Odyssey trade.
The question I have for the group is should I buy the extended warranty now or wait to see if I decide I will be keeping the van long term. I believe I can wait up to 3 years 36K miles.
Thanks for your responses.

For what its worth, the sales manager of a very large Toyota dealership in the upper midwest did confirm that, at least for now, all XLE AWD Limited models come with either the DVD package (60% built this way) or the DVD/NAV package (40% built this way). This may apply to the FWD models as well.
Another interesting informational point from my conversation with the sales manager. Toyota will apparently allocate so many Siennas (and other models) in specified trim levels to each dealership about 4-6 weeks before they are manufactured, subject ot a bit of bargaining. The dealership will then choose the exterior and interior colors, which can be changed up to the time of manufacture of the car. This allows the dealership to get a certain model and trim allocated but then get the color desired by the customer more quickly than just custom ordering a car. Frankly, I'm not even sure how easy it is to even custom order a set of options any more. In other words, its more like McDonalds than Burger King (smile). I may not have all the details perfect, but I think this is fundamentally correct.
This could be relevant if you are ordering a Sienna -- see if the dealer has any allocated in the trim/options you are looking for that are unsold and then get them to try to change the color.
Hope this helps a bit.
MSRP was $27,950. We paid 25,090 plus tags and taxes.
Negotiated through internet, put $200 deposit on 12/31 and received van 1/6.
Ordered during Washington D.C. area Toyotathon. Could have had same amount off any unit on lot, but wanted package #7. Second dealer agreed to match discount, but did not have right package in stock or in transit.
355Toyota in Rockville, Md. Part of DARCARS
I'm looking at the same model - XLE w/ #12. Any advice for someone just getting started?
I have made a couple of calls to Toyota to try and find the $500 angel, but no luck......
0 deductible extended warranty for $850 without having to buy a maintenance plan (figure $550 on the warranty and another $400 for not having to buy the maintenance), plus will give "good condition" price for my trade-in instead of low-balling me (figure $1000). They also are not passing on the Toyota Dealer advertising fee others are paying ($300). So by this rationale I saved $2700 on the overall deal's bottom line, just not on MSRP. Those relating big discounts off MSRP have my admiration, particularly the person in Missouri(?) who claimed $3000 off MSRP on a Limited with package 6. Fantastic if true, but it's not happening around here and I didn't want to drive that far! I hope they all did equally well on the rest of their deals, and that the dealers didn't try and get back what they had given off MSRP. The "tires for life" plans people are buying aren't worth it, since they require rotations and periodic wheel alignments to be done by the dealer; you ultimately pay for the future tires anyway, likely only one set unless you keep the car beyond 100k miles.

1) Go to the superpages site and search by distance for toyota dealers in your area. Its easy to generate a list of 10-20 dealers and should take less than 5 minutes. The actual number will depend on where you live and the distance you set.
2) Apply for quotes by e-mail or over dealer pages. If not then call each and ask for a quote. If they will not give you one just move on. Its not worth the extra work. There are plenty of dealers. This took about 1 hour to e-mail and leave messages. Frequently there is an internet person.....find that person they are generally easier to deal with.
3) Contact each again and throw out any that will not give you a FINAL out the door price (excluding tax, tags, lic). All dealer fees and other junk should be in the final price.
4) Decide in advance if you will settle for a #14 or any color. I found a limited that was pretty tempting but I dont want the other junk that was on it.
5) Be prepared to travel for the best deal. I was able to find 2 that were #12 and 4 that were #14. The only two discounted $2000 below MSRP (1 of each) were 100 and 300 miles away. So your tolerance to travel may determine our dealing power. The best I could do locally was $1500 off on an order and $800 on the lot. I'll gladly travel 300 miles for >$1000 in my pocket. You may not. Some dealer will actually have a driver bring it to you for about $1 a mile or so with some minimum and some maximum. For example St. Louis to parts of Kansas costs about $200 or so I was told.
6) Be wary of the "best deal". Only deal with out the door (OTD) prices. Check around if you can before you travel to a distant dealer who may have a bad rep.
As far as the Ltd #6 for $3000 off.....not that I fould. We decided to drop the limited because the best we could get was $1500. Its nice but not that nice.
I contacted dealers starting with local ones first and moving out in 25 mile chunks. I did not start getting nice discounts until I went about 100 miles from St. Louis. I gave all the local dealers a chance to meet the lowest couple of prices I found and they all declined. Several said I was a liar and NOBODY was discounting that much. Does not bother me.
The pressure is coming from the Nissan Quest SL with everything but the DVD/NAV that is selling at $100 BELOW invoice here. Its a pretty good alternative leather heated seats, TCS, better seats, fold flat front seats. The down side is that its less refined and the fold down system it harder. Thats about $27000 for something similar to the XLE#12. About $3500-5000 less. Add the 1.9% for 60 months and it was tempting. Yet there are dealers here with more than 25 Quest SLs on their lots.
I am shopping extended warranties as I expect to pick up our AWD LTD Sienna on Saturday. I just came across a site www.toyotawarranty.com (dealer in Iowa) that offers discounted warranties. I have not dealt with them and am wondering if anyone has bought a warranty this way. Minimally printing the info off for negotiating purposes will be great (they show the 72mo/100K $0 deductible for $600 off at $1030.
I did use a similar strategy to get my Honda dealer to meet the price listed on a Honda Dealer's website for extended warranties on my new Honda Accord (it was the same basic set up as the website you refer to). My dealer met the price so I purchased the warranty from them, so I cant help on your specific question.
May I suggest, though, that you ask to speak to the Finance guy by phone (or whowever is going to try to sell you the extended warranty) a day or two ahead of your delivery visit and get the price settled. That's the approach I took, and it worked great. Once you are in the office, signing the paperwork, inertia starts to take over, and you may not have the same leverage -- at least psychologically -- that you have right now.
Hope this helps a bit -- good luck.

The best deals that have been posted here recently for this particular warranty are in the $850-950 range. You should strive to pay a price no more than one at or near the low end of that range. (You can always make an offer of $850 - or even less.)
Incidently, the Toyota (www.toyota.com) suggested retail price for this warranty (Toyota's Platinum 7yr/100K, 0 deductible) is $1425, so the dealer you refer to is discounting off a price with an additional $205 pack.
That makes the offer price and discount look soooooooo much more appealing, doesn't it?
msrp $28835
dealer offer... $26510 plus $249 doc fee.
does this sound reasonable?
Thanks in advance
BTW, I have XLE AWD, package 14 if that helps.
