I took my 2011 Touring in today for it's first oil change, asked the service writer about the front side windows recall (NHTSA #11V181000) and the low battery warning idiot light coming on all the time. Also mentioned that my Navi system went dark (no GPS, no clock, no nothing) the other day, and that there was a wiper arm recall.
He said there was nothing for the window recall in Canada, there was no fix at this time for the low battery warning FOR CANADIAN VANS, even tho' the new sensor, part #32600-TKB-A02 is available in the states and that they would have to order and replace the Navi system, (at no charge to me, thank the Lord for small mercies for that!!!)
Honda has had issues with the ODY ever since 1999. Don't look to Honda for any assistance. The transmissoin being the biggest issue. I have a ODY with 70000 when the tranny went out. Honda told me to take a hike. I will never buy a Honda product of any kind period.
I had that sensor replaced at my dealer in Alberta and it didn't help. The idiot signal light still remains. i wrote a letter to Honda Canada to complain and they told me the idiot signal is a normal thing for this new generation. What a joke!
We are trying to decide between the 2011 Odyssey Touring vs the Elite. I like the idea of a larger DVD screen, but don't think I will be putting in 2 different DVDS/games for the kids. Here is my question- if there is only DVD playing, will it take up 1/2 of the 16in screen? or 3/4 of the screen? and is it centered? There is a shortage of Elite's in my area, so I can't really find one to try it on
we just got done with a 6 week trip and drove the kids everywhere. if you are going for the Touring/Elite just for the entertainment factor may I suggest just getting how many kids you have an IPad instead. We have two 4.5 y/o and they like those (we like them with headphones in). they can play games and with some initial prep they'll have videos stored on them. We used a wireless card so they were able to pull Netflix for them which gave them more than enough movies. Plus we don't have to hear the cries for the DVD player on the way to the grocery store. If you are set on it still use this as your mindset so they dont stick it to you because it's the only two with the options (We have the EXL/Nav). Good luck and hope this helps.
The full screen can be utilized to watch a DVD on the Elite. Also, I've grown to really like the blind spot warning system. The xenon lights are also a nice touch. We've owned our Elite for about 3 months and 4k miles now, and have experienced absolutely no problems. I would definitely go with the Elite if you can locate one.
I just bought a Honda Odyssey 2012 Touring Model. I just sold an Acura MDX 2007 due to some issues with leg space and comfort as my kids aren't getting any younger. I highly recommend the Honda Odyssey to anyone who wishes to travel comfortably and enjoy a fun drive. This van is perfect for people who have big families or have young children.
This is the second incident with my less than year old Odyssey. During my first oil change, my windshield cracked (large crack across 3/4 length of windshield). The dealership said that several 2011 Odyssey windshields were improperly installed and there had been other incidents of windshields cracking.
Today was the worst...first my engine light came on, could not accelerate followed quickly by smell of burning rubber and a horrible noise. I had the van towed to the dealership. A failed spool valve was named as the source. I can't help but feel like there is long term damage to the engine.
I thought I could count on Honda for quality. Guess I was wrong.
How has anyone else addressed a problem with a new Honda vehicle?
I am not happy t hear this. Makes me wonder what will happen to mine next as I am still perturbed about the low battery warning signal coming on continuously and basically cutting out my interior lights everytime I turn off the ignition. It is extremely annoying. I guess sticking with the Odyssey and Honda may have not been a wise decision afterall.
After waiting about 4 months to get an Odyssey, this is the deal I was given:
The Drive-out for the Odyssey EXL w/ Navigation. MSRP 2011 Odyssey EXL w/Navigation $37,535.00 Internet Price** $33,102.00 Destination & Handling $810.00 Window Tint $145.00 Protection Package $339.00 State Sales Tax 6.25% $2,149.75 Vehicle Inventory Tax $72.33 License Fee $72.30 Inspection & Title Fee $61.75 Documentary Fee $125.00
TOTAL Drive-Out $36,877.13
I could have done without the tint and protection package of course, but they wouldn't take it off. I also opted for the 8year/100k Honda Care; their initial offer was $1800, but thanks to these forums, got it for $1295. I'm happy with the deal. Also got the 0.9% for 36 months. This is with no trade in.
Normally I'd say you got ripped off with these pure-profit add-ons: $145 (tint) + $339 (prot) + $62 (insp/title) + $125 (doc) = $671, but your price of $33,102 is about a grand under invoice, so I'd say you did pretty good. Maybe they're finally starting to deal on the 2011's to make room for the 2012's. Unless, of course, this was a demo, or you had a trade-in, in which case you almost certainly got ripped off.
Am i wrong to assume that the invoice price already inclues dealer profit? An EXL+Nav on the 2011 odyssey is $33261 (Invoice) . Should i not be able to bargain for below that price?
What is the best price i should settle at? is 33261 + Taxes +Tags (no other addons) not a reasonable bargain. Man! i never thought buying a car can be this stressful.
I think the best plan these days is to email your 5-10 closest dealers, tell them exactly what you want, what you're flexible about, what your current best offer is, and can they beat it. That might give you some insight as to how soft the market is for the car you're interested in.
I have a local dealer offering a black 2011 Odyssey Touring demo model w/ just under 6k miles on it. Also has cargo tray and all-season floor mats. Any idea what a fair, but good, price (pre-tax) would be for this? KBB isn't as useful for this. Thanks!
We bought 2012 EX-L with NAV for 35800(include destination fee) + tax/fee. Paid 1400 more for adding DVD PLAYER. Not sure it is reasonable price or not.
That's what I was trying to say, I guess I put it badly. In normal driving, 6k fewer miles is about 6 months off the warranty, so I was taking that into consideration. But I drive fewer than 12k/year, so personally, my warranties always expire for time, not mileage, so the 6k wouldn't matter much to me, as long as the term of the warranty was the same as a new, undriven car. It's tough to price a demo - I was trying to estimate low, but it might be worth less still... I know dealers try to sell them 'as new', and try not to discount them much, but I have a feeling that they're some sort of a marketing write-off and they make huge profits off them when they sell them for close to invoice. Maybe a former salesman/dealer could chime in (if they're not too loyal to their former career).
Since you bought it, be happy with it. I think 2011's are going for close to invoice from dealers willing to deal, and they're holding close to retail on the 2012's until the 11's are gone. I would think that negotiating for $1k over invoice should be doable by November for the 2012's. You got your DVD player for slightly under invoice, though! I hadn't heard - are they installing a 'factory' DVD player at dealerships in the EX-L's?
Thanks! We live in Nor cal and we tried around 10 dealers and they are very rigid in price both years. When we try to negotiate with other dealers some said that the price u got it good and go ahead with it.
We tried both years but they are giving almost same quote for both years. They said that they have few inventory and more demand.
Two things: When you contact the dealers, be sure to let them know you're ready to buy now, know exactly what you want, they have it on their lot (check their online inventory), and they can have your business for the best price. If you just call around casually, they'll give you high quotes. It's usually best to email the internet guy to get decent quotes. That being said, I'm in Northern California too (Bay Area) and it's notoriously tough to get deals on Hondas here similar to what people say they're getting in other parts of the country. They can be had, but the timing has to be right. I spoke to an ex-BMW dealer recently, and he said that BMW HQ creates (or used to) false shortages to keep prices up. They tell their dealers they can't have more than x-number of a certain model even though they've got thousands sitting on docks around the country. I'm sure it's a tactic all manufacturers have used or tried to use over the years, it would not surprise me if Honda were doing it in certain regions where salaries (of those who have a job  ) are higher.
I parked my 2011 Odyssey and came back out later and ALL four windows were all the way down. I know I had them up when I went in. This happen to anyone else. I did have a boat trailer hooked up to a harness so maybe some sort of weird electrical short? But please let me know if this has happened to anyone.
I found that if you click your remote key do-dad to lock/unlock the doors more than once, the windows (and sun roof) will lower. This has happened to me with my 2011 Odyssey Touring.

Did that TSB fix your problem with the creaking? I am having the same issue and taking mine back to the shop for the 2nd time! I printed out the TSB to take with me and I am hoping it will fix the problem! I was just wondering if it fixed yours?
My 2012 oddy ex is only 6 months old but I too have this same clicking noise when you slowly go forward or backward while turning left or right. This intermittently started at 3 months.
Did the TSB bulletin fix this issue for you guys? Thanks.
My 2011 had the same issue pretty much since new. I did finally road test when dropping off with the service manager and got him to hear it, and they performed the TSB and it (so far) worked like a charm!
They did "look into it" several times before and found nothing, so for me forcing the guy to listen to it while I was driving was key.

Could someone please tell me the cargo area length and width from the back of the front seats to the tailgate.
