Any help would be appreciated!
Regarding your detractors, Internet is a marvelous device that allows all kinds of free speech, which includes its less than civilized forms. Your detractors have the constitutional right to spew it all and it is up to the board supervisors to kick them out when it gets bad enough. I am happy to see that their punches, although hurtful, did not knock you out.

I know you are getting dumped on these days. Just wanted to "thank you" again for answering my replies in the past!
telling me. He was vehement in saying that the
TCS and ABS would be impacted. Also, gerapau, it
is my understanding that the Max's suspension, etc.
is especially "tweaked" for the 17" wheel/tire
package. If that is in fact true, then I fear that
my handling would be adversely affected beyond the
mere addition of a smaller wheel/tire package, i.e., the wheel/tire package (smaller) would impact
and this "impact" would be exacerbated by having a
suspension set up for much larger tires and wheels.
May I ask if your recommendations are based on a
technical background in this sort of thing or are
you just surmising that I shouldn't have any problems going in either direction tire size wise??
Thanks/Berbel
A higher profile 15 or 16 inch tire/wheel combo will be about the same diameter as the low profile 17 inchers the SE comes with. The ABS/TC system compares the wheel speeds with each other, so as long as all your wheels are the same size there won't be a problem.
With narrower, higher snow tires, your on-pavement handling will not be as good as with the stock tires. You will have to give up something for better going in the snow. No tire is perfect for every condition.
Hope this helps.

Seems like many wheels use hub rings. Any opinions disadvantages or advantages that?
Looking to tell Santa what to bring...
One is Acker wheel (www.ackerwheel.com). I only offer this info because you may want to get a set of SE wheels for your GXE or....they offer MANY other wheels...and CHEAP compared to dealer costs !!

Thank you for the aftermarket / OEM rim site. I purchased one of the first production GLe's in early July 99 so I don't have the star/spoke rims that the Se and the Gle come with now.
I have been on this board since day one and although I don't post very often I appreciate your informative and sometimes funny comments here.
Have just turned 30000 miles and I am still glad my user name is iluvmax!!

I meant to say Lo-beams, gonna have them checked, when I get the 1000 mile Oil Change, and the lug nuts/rotors looked at next week. Thanx

Thanks for the pointer to Acker Wheels. I'll give them a call.
By the way, do have any idea what in model changes were in the 2000 Maxima that warrants two different sets of Factory service manuals (printed or on CD?). I'll look at my VIN to get the right set on CD, but wondered how significant the in model year changes were (or is it the difference between models -- GXE/SE/GLE)?

I have just sold my 2000 MAX SE...I bought the
changer when I got the car for over $500
dollars(I know I paid a lot but that's how much they were back then!)..It is brand new(all serial numbers are on
the unit and box!), in the original NISSAN OEM BOX,
Never even been opened!!!(THE PRemier-AFTER MARKET UNIT- is not even close to the OEM and I would not get anything but OEM NISSAN)... I was just too busy(or
lazy!..LOL) to install it in my 2000 max
SE.....anyone interested in a BRand new OEM (model
# B8183-C9961)6 disc changer for the 2000-2001
max..this is a steal..I am willing to sell it for
$225.00(FIRM!) plus shipping(if that's possible..not
sure?)..or just pick it up if you live in the NY\NJ\CT
Tri-state area..any questions please e-mail me at
Misel00@aol.com.....Please only serious
inquiries..Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!PS..Also once installed no dealer will ever know that you didn't have it when you baught the car thus carrying the full Nissan Bumper to bumper warranty..this was told to me by a service manager at my local Nissan!!!!!!)
For those who are interested, I've reproduced the article in Post #402 in the 5-speed forum:

Bruce...
I was wondering if anyone out here has this problem for their maxima:
If parked for more then 8 hours on a cold day (40° or under), it takes 2 LONG tries to get the engine to start. It's buggin me out!!! Anyone have this problem? (i hope i am not the only one)
thanks,
Jerry
I won't even RENT Grand Ams! The last time I did, it left me stranded, as well as being a very uncomfortable car. Whatta joke!
Just Ignore, it'll grow up or go away.
Thanks for your post. We like ALL kinds of opinions !!
Jerry...I've posted this problem in the past but...I'll get into it again for ya.
If you start a cold Max for only a few seconds, such as to pull it into the garage, or just move it....without letting it warm up a bit, it'll sometimes be hard to start the next morning. I know it's a pain but...it's been a normal trait since the VQ came out in 95.
In the future...try this...if you have to move the car briefly after it's cold, be sure to let her run for about 1 to 2 minutes before shutting het off...that should take care of the problem...let us know if that doesn't work.

The Traction control has been great this week in Kansas City. Was behind a Lexus ES300. He tried to get going up a slight hill, all I saw was his exhaust cloud but no movement. Was fun to pull around him and be on my way. (Would have thought the more expensive ES300 would have traction control standard!)
Joe what do you think? the last time i saw snow tires in my family was on our oldsmobile delta 88 circa 1975
Just my 2c.

Whacko, I'm one of the many in this forum that purchased a 2000 Max as my first Max. Brand loyalty and product reputation were factors, as was the performance, handling and perceived value. Design? I like the looks of BMWs more than nearly anything else. I happen to like the looks of my GLE, but it was not the reason to buy it. If you go to the forum that compares the 300M with the
Max, you'll find a lot of the 300M owners bought their autos because they liked the styling. Let's see how happy they are a few years from now, LOL.

My last car was a 91 Eagle Talon and I had several problems with it. I was also in college and the time. I treated myself this time and while the back of the Max isn't my initial desire, it has grown on me and I love my baby max!!! :-)
