If you don't see the part listed then send them a e-mail with a discreption of the part. A part number and a price will return. If you have the original part look on the back of the cover. You should see the 8-digit GM part number. Lift the hood of you car you see GM part numbers all over every part. Look on a AC oil filter you will see the GM part number.

LOL... Probably the same way OnStar knows where you are! ;-))

    yurakm-

I owe you money! After I left, I went to Dunkin Donuts for coffee and noticed that you gave me too much money. I don't THINK we were supposed to leave a tip at Louie's?? It was my first time there too! Oh well, next time we'll go to the bar! LOL.... It was nice meeting you. This was the first time I ever met anyone from the car group here. I would have loved to meet some people when I had Christine so that we could compare notes about our 300's.

Just to note: Current Buick incentives here in the NYC area show 0% money + $1250 and $750 cash off for Centuries and Regals, respectively. In other wrods, the cheaper car has the better deal; a reversal of past practice here. Does that mean Regals are finally catching on or what?

At 6000 miles I rebalanced (just in case) and rotated tires. Not at dealer, but at local Firestone. I am sure they do not read the manual and do not reset the warning. Though, no problem.

I believe, the car have no pressure sensors. The only thing it knows is number of wheel rotations. Then computer compares the number of rotations between wheels on the same axle, between the front and rear axles, and probably compares the current ratio(s) with what was before.

The sensors are a part of ABS system. ABS compares rotations on the same axle. With new computers and software the same information is used for traction control and to warn about low pressure. In reality the computer does not know anything about pressure, but it knows when the tire radius was changed.

So the probable reason of your warning was that the tires have different radius. Either because one of them was underinflated before tire rotation, or because of somewhat uneven wear. The uneven wear is the very reason for rotation.

Thank you so much: I did not notice.

It was a great pleasure to meet you. The Louie's hamburgers are unusual, especially if comparing with McDonald: much simpler, but also much better.

And, by the way, your car is beautiful.

My e-mail address is posted with my profile at Edmunds.

    To Rhinnc & Yurakm,

I was the gentleman who posted about the rotor problem and the corresponding TSB #s, approximately last September. While I do not have the TSB #s any longer, you can go to www.alldata.com . This service is GREAT. Put in the year and model of Regal you have, and the service will provide you all of the corresponding TSB #s with topic headers.

It is interesting to note, I was looking at the beginning of this discussion thread where I originally posted(#'s 1 - 100 or so), to try and find the TSB #'s that i posted backed then, for you to have. Edmunds has taken down my posting, but I know i was looking in the right spot since people were responding to my screen name, "jjcsky". In fact, Yurakm, one of the postings was from you, thanking me for providing the #s....I wonder why they would take down those postings. They even took down the ones I put up for the corresponding TSBs on the Grand AM board (I own a 2000 GT1 in Silver Mist, as well - hot car). Do you think GM made them do that?!?

Anyway, enough conspiracy theory...Go to the website and good luck with your rotors. By the way, I had the problem on both cars and my dealer told me that the rotors were covered under warranty, even though I did NOT have my rotations done by the dealer. Do not let them bamboozle you. The rotors should be covered. In fact, if you look back at the postings I referred to, you can see someone wrote about the rotors I had recommended put on, the Cross Slotted performance rotors. These rotors are larger and the right size for the Regal GSE and are payed for under warranty.

Just wanted to say NO problems whatsoever with our car, which we bought new last August. Wife loves it, so that's was half the battle about buying it. However, I couldn't talk my daughter into leasing an '01 GSE though. She just loves imports. She thinks they are big status symbols, and money be damned. I said what she paid for her Mercedes, she could have gotten 2 GSE(s), and the performance and reliability would be equal.
  • si88si88 Member Posts: 39
I went to a dealer who has a 2000 GSE fully loaded with only 2400 miles on it. They said I could finance it at the 1.9% for 60 months at a cost of $14,000 before TT & L. I'm skeptical by nature, but this sounds too good to be true. It has been on different lots for over 500 days. They said I could take the car monday and drive it all day to get it looked at (puppydog close). Any ideas on where to get it checked out or what to look for as far as damage?
    Thanks for any feedback.

Tell them you want them to do a Carfax check to make sure the car was not a buyback, in an accident or flooded.

I noticed the same thing about post missing. I can not find anything posted from July 30, 00 to November 00. I wrote Edmunds last week but have not had a reply.

Thanks for verifying that I have not completely lost my mind....

Because GM has so many overlapping cars within their divisions, the decision has been made to reduce the lineup of Buick and Pontiac.

Someone said they saw a spy photo of the 2005(?) Regal. From the sound of the article, it appears that Century will be dropped because, "there is little difference between the Regal and Century". It also said that Buick may be the division to suffer if this happens.

    What do ya'll think?

  • rhinncrhinnc Member Posts: 66
The service advisor says that GM Warranty is not going to cover the rotors. Strange that a car with 10,000 miles would have warped rotors, but stranger that the warranty does not cover this.

They are going to cover the switch repair for the disengaging cruise control as well as re centering the steering wheel. It is off about 6 degrees to the left.

Concerning the rotors, I wonder how much of warranty work is at the discretion of the service advisor. Since this is a GM vehicle, would it be possible that another non-Buick GM dealership could do the work and turn it in under warranty?
  • yurakmyurakm Member Posts: 1,345
Buick is selling twice as much Centuries as Regals. Thought, probably the same is true with Pontiac Gran Prix SE.

Would GM rebadged Century as a lower trim of Regal, like GP SE - with a weak engine and (specially for ARRP) the bench seat available as option - the only noticeable difference would be in marketing and compliance. Less brochures to print, less models to list, less car bodies to crash-test, etc.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
they could, along with the switch repair. Seems like the dealer you're dealing with is one big loser. I'd either seek the help of the BBB or another dealer....not neccessarily in that order. Good luck
  • one2oneone2one Member Posts: 626
If your car has only 10,000 miles, it's covered by the bumper-2-bumper warranty. Just ask the Intrigue folks who had warped rotors. Rotors are not "normal wear" items. Pads are. I'd say check with another service dept. If you so much as blow a strut, it should be covered.

Does anyone know where spy photos for the 2005 Regal can be found?
  • yurakmyurakm Member Posts: 1,345
I would suggest to speak first with service manager. And to mention the GM TSB on rotors. This TSB is not Regal-specific, but concerns all vehicles with disk brakes.

I had a dash rattle, and the service adviser told me nobody would fix this. Too much work for the small problem.

After a test drive with service manager, the rattle was fixed, even while it took three days and three attempts - each with dash disassembly. A month later the rattle returned, and this time they replaced the whole dash panel (it turned to be warped).

So the service adviser was right concerning the work, but the service manager decided to do the repair.

Anyone have problems with the quality of leather used on your GS's or LS's? What has been your experience? I've run into what seems to be wrinkled, dry leather in my back seat. I am concerned that over time it will crack and split. So far the dealer hasn't replaced the seat, but did say if leather cream didn't work, a replacement would be considered.

Combine Buick and Pontiac? Now that's progress from the people who used to bring you Oldsmobile, ya! Watch them screw that one up too---it's called modern day marketing:-)
  • will38will38 Member Posts: 30
I have a 99 GS. The leather does seem to dry out. I use Lexol leather cleaner and follow with Lexol leather conditioner. I use this every 3 months. The seats still feel dry, but the leather hasn't cracked. I hope this helps.

I have just bought my fiance a 1998 Regal 25th anniv. Edition.
Either the alarm system has failed, or she did something to it. Whatever, the car will not start.

Any suggestions. I do not know the code, unfortunately.
  • verdi942verdi942 Member Posts: 304
Sure, just rebadge all the Centurys as Regals; let them be the low end Regal. Century is now Regal Lite anyway. When I got my '99 LS, I had come in for a Century, drove both and made the only sensible choice. No regrets 25,000 miles later.
  • bporter1bporter1 Member Posts: 229
I own a 99 GSE and my leather seats are drying out also. I have used Lexol on them and although it seems to be getting better they are still dried out. I would never own leather in a car again for this reason. I go to the dealership on Saturday for my 30k checkup and I will ask about the leather drying out. Other than that this car rocks and when I bought it I was 28 years old. Hopefully when I am ready to buy another car, Buick still offers the Regal.
  • yurakmyurakm Member Posts: 1,345
And what if Buick will offer Regal with leather seats only, as with the current GS?
  • jackjtjackjt Member Posts: 178
Thanks for your replies, re: the dried out leather back seat. After I see the dealer about replacement, I'll have to try the Lexol. It sounds like a good product.

I got a nice call from the service manager where my wife took her 2K AS the other day to have some work done. After being told that the rotors were not covered I went to GM's Buck Regal web site and sent an e-mail (Monday PM) to customer service about why the rotors were not covered on the bumper to bumper 36K warranty with only 10K miles on the car. Received an acknoldgement e-mail from GM on Tuesday saying someone would be getting in touch with me within 24 hours. This morning I received a call from the very apologetic service manager offering to pick up the car and replace the rotors.

Thanks for all who offered assistance.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
will get away with it 95% of the time. I'll bet that the first time around, he told you with confidence and authority that it wouldn't be covered under warranty. If you say it sooo many times...you start to believe it...
  • si88si88 Member Posts: 39
Yes as I suspected I was given the old bait and switch. When I returned to buy the 2000 Regal GS at the 'verbally' quoted $14K, they said the salesman was new and made a mistake. They came back at $28K! Boy was I pissed. They eventually went down to $21K, but then said I couldn't finanace at 1.9%. I'm so feed up with dealership lies that I just walked out. How can they sleep at night. I wasted 1.5 days dealing with these jerks and still I have no wheels. There should be a law or something.

The original dealership that offered me the $26,150 for a new '01' GS, actually did me a favor by checking out the 2000 GS from another dealership, for me for free.

Now that I'm in the $14K mode of thinking, are there any good deals on something used for $14K? What about financing used? Are there decent rates
  • tpkentpken Member Posts: 1,108
Si88 - The answer is YES there are 14K buys out there. For example - in my area (north of Boston) that money will get you a 2000 Impala base, Intrigue or Regal LS. $2K more buys a Bonneville SE like mine or a LeSabre Custom - all 2000 models.

Not sure on rates now. Easy to check local banks, credit union etc.

Good luck - no need to spend 25K or more if you can live with some miles on a one year old car. I'm glad to have saved substantially on my used Bonneville in January.

I honestly have no idea what I would do but I would seriously think twice about getting a car with leather seats.

I have owned several Buicks, all with leather seats. This is the first one that is really dry to the touch. Southwestern cows?

The problem isn't Southwestern cows. Sounds more like Mad cows... They can't incinerate ALL that hide - it has to find a home someplace! :)

I will make my first unscheduled repair stop with my 2000 GS on Friday. All of a sudden out of nowhere I am driving straight and let go of the steering wheel and the car drifts off to the right but the steering wheel stays straight. Strange considering I have done nothing but hit 10K on odometer and rotated tires 2500 miles ago.

Dealer on phone seems to think a front or rear alignment issue and I do not intend to pay with 10K miles.

There is a local furniture company that advertises that his leather couches are going up in price because of Mad Cow disease. Probably see more cars coming with cloth interiors or leather as an option at a premium price.

You must be hearing the same commercial I do - Barry and Elliott of Jordan's Furniture - as famous in the Boston market as Click and Clack of "Car Talk" fame!

Here's a bet you're right - less leather and more cloth - and leather options will rise in price.

All you guys with leather seats now - Don't EAT those seats!!

I have been using Wilson's leather condition (from the store that sells leather clothing, etc...) you can buy it for $5 or order online I believe.

I use it about every 3 months too, with a good liberal coating so it can soak in. Also it may be good to use it at night while the car is cool so it can work into the seats for awhile before you get back in.

I live in FL where sun and leather are very bad, and my seats look great. Good luck.

Nope, not Barry and Elliott- Bob's Discount Furniture! He's on every 5 minutes! Hey, I like Click and Clack. I know they're on on Saturdays, but I always forget what AM station.

I know this is off topic here, but since I ALMOST bought a Regal GS/LS?- the one with the supercharged engine- I thought I'd post the movie I made yesterday of the car I ended up with at photopoint.com

Just realized that my 2000 regal has a poorly designed wiper configuraion. Due to the hood clearance onc cannot lift up the blades to wash the windshield etc. when the wiper have been shut down. The blades hit the hood and there is no clearance. Can only do it if they are shut off while working and higher on the windshield.
  • rcarbonircarboni Member Posts: 290
Yes, I agree. They should have left the wipers as they were on the pre-97? Regal where they both started in the center and opened out. I liked that configuration better. The passenger wiper always tends to leave a streak right in front of the driver's face on the side-to-side motion.
  • yurakmyurakm Member Posts: 1,345
The passenger wiper always tends to leave a streak right in front of the driver's face

Not so often, and usually on the first swip only.

    I would suggest:

    1. Rain-X and/or a good washer fluid .

In my experience the best is the pink fluid with Rain-X. Winter fluid with de-icer, and the summer one with bug remover.

Available (unfortunately, not always) at Pep Boys and Wal-Mart, sometimes at Mobil gas stations. Cost $2 to $2.50 for gallon, at Wal-Mart sometimes 1.2 gallon for the same price. Unfortunately, the bottles are round and tend to roll in the trunk.

The same Rain-X is also available at Wal-Mart as additive for a stock washer fluid. If I remember right, it is sold in 16-oz bottles, good for 4 gallons. Sometimes this package is more convenient: takes no place in the trunk.

Alternatively, the Rain-X for manual application is available most everywhere. At supermarkets, gas stations, even at CVS drugstore.

    2. Cleaning the wiper blades about once a week to once a months, depending on how dusty they are. I am using for this the small disposable rubbing alcohol pads, available at drugstores. Kind of alcohol-soaked napkin, like those supplied by airlines for hands washing. Very convenient for many purposes.

    3. And, of course, replacing the wipers or inserts at least yearly. The best time to do it is the fall, before the winter season, the most hard to wipers.

The very good wipers, the Trico brand, costs about $15 a pair at Pep Boys. They looks the same as the OEM wipers. Probably GM is buying them from Trico.

    http://www.tricoproducts.com/new/

It takes about 5 minutes to replace the wipers the very first time, and at most 2 minutes with experience. The Bosh wipers are less convenient to replace and a bit less efficient, but they also are good enough.

Never replaced inserts, but saw them at Pep Boys. Cost $3 or so.

Now that rainy season is in South Florida..finally. The brake dust/dirt is all over the wheels.
What has everyone been using to clean their chrome wheels?

    Thanks to all....

BTW...aligment was off a bit and the factory warranty only covers the first 7500 miles...that is a shame considering most manufacturers go 12mo/12K.
  • armtdmarmtdm Member Posts: 2,057
Actually, I have only cleaned mine once because after I removed the brake dust with a wheel cleaner (wheel cleaner liquid found in any parts store) I waxed the wheels. the dust now comes off with normal washing.

    try it
  • BushwackBushwack Member Posts: 258
I've used Mothers Wheel Cleaner and that had done well. But I recently started using Zaino products on my car (including Zaino Z-6) on the chrome wheels and after a week of driving, just a quick wash cleans off the dust. I've also heard that the household cleaner Formula 409 (dilluted with 3 part water water) does a decent job on keeping chrome clean without attracting dust.

Stopped off at a Buick dealer last night to look at some Regals and also to glance at a Rendezvous. They had about a dozen Regals in stock with about 5 being GSs. Two blacks, a grey, and a white. This dealer normally leaves their cars unlocked so you can get in them even after they are closed. One of the things I noticed was every GS had a build date of 06/00. Now, that seems odd that all their GSs are nearly 1 year old physically and that all had the exact same build date. Anyway, looks like I'm going to miss the 05/31 deadline for the 0% financing on Regals. Oh well, still can't decide if I want a Regal, another Intrigue, or a used Caddy. Speaking of, Cadillac dealer has a 98 Aurora with only 35,000 miles for $18K.
  • rcarbonircarboni Member Posts: 290
    yurakm,

Thanks for the tips. However, I already use Rain-X, and my wipers are about the best you can buy. I use silicone blades from this company:

    http://www.sspinc.com/wipers.cfm

Silicone, unlike rubber, will not leave black residue on your windshield, will not crack or freeze, does not need routine cleaning, and lasts for years. I have been using these wipers for about 3 years now on all my vehicles, and they are incredible.

The problem I have though, is that when the passenger blade goes to make its reversal in direction, it does so right in front of the driver's face. This always leaves a somewhat vertical streak regardless of Rain-X or blade type, that I constantly have to compound out. This is not a problem just with the Regal, but with all vehicles of this configuration. I mentioned that my previous Regal ('95) had a different configuration where both blades started in the center and worked outward. I just don't understand why they changed this setup.

  • yurakmyurakm Member Posts: 1,345
Thank you! Will try the blades next time.
  • armtdmarmtdm Member Posts: 2,057
If the build date is 06/00 these are 2000 models and if so you should get these for 2,000-3,000 under invoice. Yes, under invoice which would be 5,000-6,000 under retail/sticker.

    .
  • etharmonetharmon Member Posts: 399
The window sticker said they were 2001s. I might stop back by there again some evening and check the VIN code. If they are indeed 2000s, then I'd be tempted to take one at 2-3K under invoice.
