I know it takes some time for a break in, but just how long is the break in period?
I got 16 mpg the first tank, and about 19 mpg the second, but the second was all highway.
Thanks.
Since this discussion is for prices paid/buying experiences only, ownership issues (gas mileage, etc.) should be taken to the Honda Odyssey Owners Club
Thanks!
Since he felt he was getting high pressure to buy it that evening, he walked.
In my opinion he was crazy as his 92' Astro has 160,000 miles on it. I think the Astro may have some expensive repairs before long. The 88 Honda Accord of his wife has 200,000 miles with the only major problem a transmission failure at 60,000 miles (not under warranty). He plans to keep the Accord and sell the Astro.
Are there any typos in your post?
How much was the doc fee?
Many of us would not object to being subjected to such "high pressure," LOL.
If I understood him correctly, he was at Larry H. Miller in Murray, Utah and the doc fee + tire recycle fee + title fee was about $300.
Edmunds lists NO rebates or incentives for a 2005 Odyssey. The TMV of an Odyssey is the same as final MSRP. The invoice for a 2005 Odyssey EX is $25,527. It appears to me that my nephew was offered a very good deal and may regret walking even though his deal was not nearly as remarkable as the $24,200 paid by want05. I did not see discounts this high on the 2004 Odyssey EX last summer.
Ody LX: $24,995 + $515 destination = $25,510
Ody EX: $27,995 + $515 destination = $28,810
EX-L: $30,295 + $515 = $30,810
Add DVD for total $32,410
Add DVD + NAV total $34,610
Touring: total $35,020
Add NAV + DVD total $38,810
However, when you wrote it did not have the automatic doors, it appears to me that you purchased an LX since all EX models have the power sliding door on each side, cast wheels, automatic separately controlled temperature for driver and front passenger + more extras not included on the base Odyssey LX.
See my earlier thread.
If it's too good to be true it probably is. Car dealers especially don't give anything away.
I just recently purchased an Odyssey and I know from reading the forums that in many areas the prices are negotiable.
Although, I'm happy for anyone that gets a good deal, this doesn't sound right. It doesn't even make sense.
or..." A friend only paid XXXX"
There are the "prices paid" that make little sense but just maaaaay have happened"
Then there are the impossible ones.
Same old 'Edmunds is wrong, the internet is wrong, blah blah blah.......'
Is that the first lesson at car salesman school?
Of course, I understand the difference between a price claimed to have been paid here and actual invoice pricing available across the internet (Edmunds, Carsdirect, etc.)....
On November 26, 2005 I purchased an 05 Odyssey EX - L - RES for $30,700 from Baytown Honda. The price include destination charge but does not include Tax, Title, or License fees.
I sent out 15 email to 15 different Honda Dealerhhip surrounding Houston, on 11/24/04. It took Baytown 10 minutes to respond to my email offer. Two other dealership agreed to my price offer of $30,700 for said model but Baytown Honda agreed to the price first so they got the sale. The other two dealership are Gillman Honda and McDavid Honda. The other 12 dealership either did not reply or only offered $1,000 below MSRP.
FYI - My price offer is halfway between MSRP and Dealer Invoice. In other words, it is roughly $1,700 below MSRP or $1,700 above Dealer Invoice.
PS. If I had to do it all over again, I would buy said van from one of the other two dealership because they offer service perks that Baytown Honda does not. Please see their respective website for more details. Thanks to Edmunds.com and posters for their comments and insights. Last, but not least, I am buying the 7/100/0 Honda Care Warranty from Dick Brooks Honda for $1089. Good luck everyone and have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season.
I believe they do share the plant with the Pilot and the new trucklet thingee, so that could eat in production.
My local dealers seem to have a decent supply level (20+ that i could find), so this isn't 1998 all over again, but they still supposedly are selling.
I actually got a call yesterday from the local guy that the model/color we decided on was now in stock. Might have to go check it out.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Think got a good deal as was not insisting on color and ready to wait for couple of days.
Don't buy it at any MA dealers, they are a cartel.
NY, NJ seems ok. Thinking about 7/100 service, please let us know if we need this, should we wait as we can buy it before 36k factory warranty expires and best price we can get.
Dealers need more than invoice to pay overhead, the salesmen, and make a fair profit.
Edmunds TMV is the same as MSRP (including Destination). The Odyssey LX is a nice, well equipped minivan although the EX has many more features.
The only feature the EX has above the LX important to me is the separately controlled temperature for the driver and front passenger although the cast wheels look very nice and the power sliding doors might be convenient.

So...let me pick my words carefully.
From my perspective I read these "prices paid" numbers and think to myself.
1. That sounds about right.
2. Wow, why would a dealer cheap sell a hard to
get car like that?
3. This is a "mistake" or else someone trying to "one up" someone else.
A recent poster proved # 3 by re-posting they had bought an LX and not the EX they said they had bought.
As with all things, what is read on the internet has to be filtered. If something seems too good to be true, it probably is.
Carry on...
Is it possible to answer my qns in message #7214 in this forum to pmorgan who did not reply. Thanks.

Where and what price did you get? I'm being quoted $1200 to $1500 OVER MSRP and I started with a price a little over dealer.
Thanks in advance!
1. Is bedard still offering 950 over invoice + 50 doc fee?
Answer: I paid $1000 over invoice plus the 50$ document fee. More local dealers wanted MSRP or just under, and at least $250 doc fees. (See also last comment below.)
2. Is bedard still the best bet, or should i try other nj/ny dealers. do i use edmunds to locate these dealers or honda site?
Answer: I found Bedard very easy to work with--no hassles, never felt pressed. I recommend them, but you have to consider if they have or can get the model/color you want.
3. what is the delaer holdup fee you mentioned in your message.
Answer: I don't know what the other poster referred to.
4. What is the breakup of the total price you paid? FYI, sales tax in NJ is 6%.
Answer: See #1 above--that was price for the EX cloth van clean--no accessories, taxes, reg fees, etc.
5. What accessories did bedard throw in (crossbars for roofrack, splash guards, etc).
Answer: While negotiating my trade-in (an old car), I unsuccesfully tried to get them to throw in all-season mats or something else. However, I did get them to agree to deliver the van. (I'm not right near Bedard, but close enough.)
In my conversations with the salesman, he said that the 950 over invoice deal was something given to a multiple repeat customer and "it became legend" here on Edmunds. He could not confirm what future prices will be, but from what I've seen Bedard is very aggressive and wants the business.
Hope this helps.
I've emailed around Northern and Southern California dealerships for quotes on an '05 EXL, and can't seem to do better that $29,810. Does anyone think I can do better? Would it be better to wait until December or January?
It seems that this is still a better value than an '05 Sienna XLE package #6 (i.e., what seems to be the comperable trim).
Anyway, today I asked the dealers at $29,810 to at least throw in a day/night rear view mirror, subwoofer, and backup sensors. I'll let you know how it goes.
We also found David Wheeler Honda in Easton, MD very helpful over the phone, but we went with the closer dealer in the end. Ourisman in Bethesda had a good price, but didn't have much inventory. Several other DC area dealers either wouldn't drop the price or wouldn't even respond to our emails.
So the 'Prices Paid' subject is a segway to a question I've been meaning to ask you:
Your comments on deals posted here are notable only by their absence, and you aren't tipping your hand to any of these potential buyers--even if they're 2,000 miles away. So what are Odys commanding at YOUR dealership? What about base Tourings? Will you 'fess up that discounts are happening as we speak?
Please spare me any stories about how YOUR market is different, people are lining up, blah, blah....
I do not think so. I paid 950 over invoice + 50 in documentation fee. But there is no harm in calling and finding out.
>2. Is bedard still the best bet, or should i try other nj/ny dealers. do i use edmunds to locate these dealers or honda site?
I have no idea. I was on edmunds.com on a regular basis reading up on almost everything and anything I could about the Ody. Remember in Sept/Oct not too many had it. The few who did were happy. We saw an EX-L and a plain touring.
>3. what is the delaer holdup fee you mentioned in your message.
None that I know. I do not know what honda offers them. That is not my business. I was going to buy my van either down from MSRP or up from invoice. These were the only two numbers that concerned me.
>4. What is the breakup of the total price you paid? FYI, sales tax in NJ is 6%.
When I got there I had my home equity loan check book. I gave them a check for 35,558. That is the invoice + 1000. I am going tomorrow to my local DMV office to pay for the registration and my 6% taxes due to PA.
>5. What accessories did bedard throw in (crossbars for roofrack, splash guards, etc).
Nobody throws in anything for a van so new. If they do it is because you have developed a long term relationship and they want you to come there regularly. In this case it is a one time deal. They are 7 hours away for a regular oil change :-)
>Thanks and sorry for so many qns, but you seem so well informed.
Well on morgans behalf I accept :-))
They are a good dealership. They informed me about the 7 year warranty and advised me to get it But they also told me that I could buy it at the end of the 3 year period. And then they went on to explaining the Navi package. I actually have not yet had the time to call them and ask for a price. So there was no selling pressure. It was a breeze to work with them. I will give them a call the next time I want to buy a Honda vehicle. I dreaded going into any dealership and my husband and I went to quite a few across PA.
So in the end. You will love your van. We have the Touring with NAV and my husband loves driving it. The kids loved the ride from MA-NJ-PA. That is all that counts.
