Did you get a good deal? Be sure to come back and share!

At least we got a short wheel base model (Plymouth) at that time, so it was still kinda "mini"!
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
Did you have any luck with Spokane downtown Honda, I read on an earlier post the dealership in Moses Lake and Yakima have given good prices
$35,173 is the dealer invoice price (including $550) destination according to Consumer Reports for a 2005 Touring R&N. Since the MSRP only went up MSRP $300 for 2006 one can safely come up with a invoice price of $35,473 (this is actual dealer cost plus holdback). Edmunds has TMV at $37,657 in my FL zip. The MSRP is $39,345 and I got one for $37,500 cash (before T&T). You getting one for $35.6 is an incredible deal. My educated guess is there was a trade-in, was there and if so, what was it (mileage, year, model, trim, etc.)? Dealers tend to keep the price up on this premium trim level, possibly because it is the crown jewel of vandom, (sorry Sienna XLE Limited fans). What was your OTD price and... even though I got a good deal on the exact same vehicle from Hennessy Honda in Atlanta, can you fax or email me the invoice so I can cry on it?
I am in the same boat. I have a Z4/525. The Z4 might go for the Ody. How long did you wait after your first child to get the minivan?
God, I know the feeling.....Bought my Minivan last Dec, thought I'd sell me 325ci but I couldn't. I've never loved a car like I do my BMW
I used the Honda website...go to odyssey page and then go to locate dealers given a zip code - this will show all dealers in 100 mile radius - i sent about 30 quote requests and got this one from Valley Honda - no haggling whatsoever..am really happy with my new 2006 Odyssey!
2006 Odyssey Touring w/ NAV & DVD Dealer Invoice Price: $34897
Destination & Handling: $550
Total (incld. destination): $35347
No. I did not have any trade in
My total OTD price is $39750 (including all taxes & fees)
Apple Valley Honda
Burien Honda
Northwest Honda
Discovery Honda
Griffith Honda
Your OTD price is similar to what I got in CA, but my sale price was much higher than $35,600... unless this does not include destination.
What dealership did you buy from?
BTW; Congrats on your purchase...
I think some have been successful geting a few hundred less than this on this model in some areas (and one place offered a enthusiast club $99 over invoice on orders last month, with delivery in Oct/Nov), but it sounds like you got a nice deal.
Enjoy your new van!
Thanks.
My buying experience wasn't spectacular. I was in the dealership over two hours with my wife and two-year-old daughter. The car had the dealer emblem on it, which I didn't want (they took it off for me) and also had 17 miles on it (I was only expecting 3 since it was just delivered, I didn't ask why, but I'd guess either they used it for a test drive or the service department took it for a test drive).
I have to say, despite many of the negative comments I've heard in these forums, so far I've been really impressed by the Odyssey. It's even better than I expected.
Very pleased that Honda went to 60k miles with their powertrain warranty for 2006, especially with the VCM, which I expect will be the most likely source of any trouble with the car.
Buying a car stinks no matter where you buy it. The process is terrible. However, I have to say that I'm thrilled with the results since I do love this vehicle, even if it is a minivan!
Hard to say what my final number was. The dealer wrote up the deal as sticker including destination =$31,410 minus $14,060 for my trade. I'd prefer to look at it as $2,000 off sticker and $12,060 for my trade, which is not a great deal, but certainly a fair one.
Thanks.
To elaborate on my FWB and P'cola, "don't play nice" statement, they don't swap vehicles, and won't speak to each other. Competitors may be the wrong word, perhaps rivals or adversaries? Matters none to me, both have decent service departments. Neither could compete with ATL dealers by their own admission and recent posts here have my deal beat by a substantial amount.
Not that you asked for advice but... if a dealer has what you want coming in, don't be afraid to commit and drive a few hundred miles or do what I did, fly there for 50 bucks. Fed-Ex'd signed docs (preceded by fax) purchase orders eliminate surprises, especially if you have your own financing ahead of time.
17 miles is nothing. The cars arrive from the factory with 4-10 miles on them. They drive them on a test track. When the Pre Delivery Inspection is done, the techs drive them to insure everything is in good shape.
I just hope my customers don't feel "the process is terrible". I try to make it easy and fun.
I think we broke the law within the edmunds post. Because I posted a reply that contained my email address, and I dont see it on here any more, nor do I see your initial reply saying you got the Ody at Williams Honda in Hampton, think that got pulled off the posts too because a reference was made in which you offered to give me details of your Williams experience off-line via email.(non edmunds...)
in any event I will try to remember what my reply was and do it again, this time without the Referee throwing RED Flags.
Question
Did you get the DVD or Navi?
What color did you end up getting?
9/25/05 I went to Checkered Flag Honda in Norfolk VA, did test drive (no intention to buy then and didn't) ... Salesman was not that good, it seemed like I knew more about the Ody then he did, asked him a lot of questions about the car & features and he seemed to fumble. As a salesman he did not give me the Warm & Fuzzy about the vehicle but he seemed like a nice guy...
Was originally going for the 06 ODY EX-L + DVD, after test drive, I want a 06 ODY EX-L DVD + NAV.
When I am ready to buy, I plan on going to Williams Honda first since they are part of the Costco Auto Buying Program here in Hapmton Roads. Curios to see what the "Negotiated"
I am still a little nervous about the OTD I came up with. Your post helped me get a good idea of the Fees Taxes & Such.. Here is what I came up with.
As Reference points: 06 ODY EX-L DVD & Nav
Edmunds TMV= $33,848
MSRP/Destination (Edmunds) : $35,145
OTD = Invoice & Destination (per Costco Auto Program) $31,673 + $1,270 (Fees Taxes & Such... per your post) = $32,942
Last Question to All is ....
OTD $32,942 an Unrealistic Price to be Paid???
I want to be viewed as a serious buyer & not viewed as ridicuous, brushed off by the dealerships I email.
Help me out here Ya'll... All comments welcome.
bobst got a opinion?? You taught me a lot via these posts....
Was this for a 06 Ody EX-L with RES (DVD) + NAV ??
To clarify, do you mean
$1,000 + invoice + tax & Fees = OTD
Or... Invoice + $1,000 = OTD
Need to find out about Williams Honda "specifics"
I tried to convince my wife to swap the 525 for a 2001 740iL. But some how she did not feel comfortable in owning a car which stickered at $70K since most people do not know that I picked it up for $26K :confuse:
I have a person interested in taking over my Z4 lease. I am torn since that is my daily driver, my shark, my baby...
OTD 31679
No trade in.
Really straight forward transaction. I email several dealers, specifically stating the OTD price I was willing to pay, and all 3 three dealers contacted me with quotes ( 2 accepted offer). I then request confirmation of quote via email with vin of vehicle, this was promptly done after vehicle was located, + made a $500 deposit over phone and that was it .
I arrive at OTD figure by figuring 3 % tax for VA ( on invoice+ destination + approx 500), + disregard processing fee and other 100% markup fees (other than license/tag) .
I find that determining your OTD price and stating it up front simply the transaction tremendously.
Another point , complete transaction by email exclusively until you literally pick up vehicle. This serve several purpose . It give you a paper trail /verification of quotes, + eliminate's a big dealer negotiating advantage - knowing the adversary.
hagerstown honda and Odonell honda's internet dept were the most receptive.
And, in my experience.... a referral to a good salesperson is nice to have... But, it sure won't guarantee the same kind of deal that the last person received..
Dealers that make good deals will make them for just about anyone, assuming all variables are the same (which they rarely are)... Going in and saying, "I want to talk to Joe Schmo... JQ Public told me you gave him the EX for exactly $XXX, and I want the same thing!!", is not what will make the difference...

I gotcha on the part , that this is not the place to get the sale persons name... slap on the wrist was felt...
However, I would never go into a dealership and say... "So and So got this deal give it to me too!" I may be new to the car buying business, but I did not just fall off the pumpkin truck yesterday :P :surprise:
I do strongly believe referral to a "good salesman" in a "good dealership" is helpful not to mention useful. It rewards the consumer, it rewards the salesperson (another possible sale for him doing a good job as a salesperson), and the dealership makes money buy selling more cars.
It this world it is no longer "what you know " its more like... "who you know..." that gets you over the hump these days specially in business..
was your deposit refundable?
So if we plan to keep our car for a long time, should we purchase an extended warranty? If so, at what point? Any sense for pricing in California? Other comments?
Thanks.
Here is my story:
We took delivery of our black 2006 Odyssey EXL on Friday, about a week after sending out 25 on-line requests for quotes.
Our final pricing was:
Van including destination- $28,358 (~$100 over invoice)
NC HUT Tax (3%)- $850.74
Tags- $56
Doc Fee- $359
Out the Door-$29,623.74
I did all of my negotiating based on the out the door price so I let the dealer have his unrealistic doc fee. (although is was in line with most other dealers) This was an in stock unit and there were a few dealer accessories already installed that we were not charged for. (wheel locks, mud flaps, a pin stripe that we had them remove)
We had additional offers from other dealers that were $200 below this price but we went with our local dealer since he had the color/trim in stock and we liked the idea of servicing the van where we bought it.
Overall, we are satisfied with this deal. I had worked up a target price before contacting dealers up from invoice taking into account a 3% holdback and a 5% dealer profit, $100 doc fee and we ended up $50 below that number.
Now we are debating if we should add a Honda Care Warranty...
Wiliiams Honda Fees for me
Tax is 3% of sales price (870.00 for 29,000)
Tags and Title 100.00
Processing Fee 349.00 (I think this is bogus charge but it is on the invoice)
all this equals a little over a 1000 dollars
So You can add 2000 Dollars to the invoice price and that is how you get the OTD Price. Most Dealers will take this price but it may take a week or so for them to realize you won't budge. This is a fair deal for both parties in my opinion.
