I have to wonder how the dealers can do this. I see that the sticker price of my 2000 Odyssey with Destination charges was $26,000 + $440=$26,440
That is also the price most of us payed. So you have a two year old vehicle which has lost 9.23%, in 2 years, in depreciation. That has got to be some kind of record. It cost the dealer less then $24,000 to purchase your vehicle new.
If you are paying MSRP for the 2002, that seems to be one hell of a deal.
Can someone explain this, "seems too good to be true", deal to me? I think for that kind of deal maybe we should all trade in our 2000 models for a 2002.

Back at home, the toddler loves the van. She runs around and sits in all the seats, sometimes it's hard to get her out. Neighbors keep stopping by to check it out. One month later we are still very happy with our purchase.
I got my car from Nora Kelly (949-493-9300) at Wesloh Honda in San Juan Capistrano. The require a $500 refundable deposit, but they'll sell it to you at MSRP. I would definitely recommend this dealership, particularly Nora Kelly, a no pressure sales person that looks out for you.
Regarding the Honda Care Warranty, I going to get it from Tracy at Alton Blakely Honda in Kentucky. I've talked to her and she's sending me the application. I think it would be hard to beat their price.
I ordered it without seeing what "fern" leather looked like, (I was very concerned about green leather) but it is a dark gray. I am not too excited about the orange taillights in the 2002.
They had 2 granite green 2001 for sale on the lot. They also had a white 2002 EX-L with DVD, a silver EX, and a white Lx. I don't know for sure if the 2002 vans were sold, but they had these vans on the sales lot and my van was kept in a separate storage area until I picked it up. (which if those vans were sold I don't think they would have been on the sales lot.)
I really like the van so far (I had a '98 Dodge Caravan)except for a few things I have never seen mentioned on this board:
-I don't like the folding tray between the front seats. I wish they offered a center console like T&C and Sienna.
- I also don't like how low the power adapter is in the front, practically on the floor. (very inconvient for the cell phone charger)
Unfortunately the headphones for the dvd are too big for my kids (ages 1 & 4)I am trying to see if I can add small speakers (like for a computer) and plug them into the back ports, and then I guess I will need to convert them to a car plug outlet.
I honestly did like the looks of the Sienna better, but I went with the Honda because it is bigger. However I think I am starting to like the Odyssey better!! and I love the granite green color (really a dark gray).

I've also had problems with the gas tank release, I have to pull it three times to get the door to open.
Thank you for your help.
Picked up the SS EX-LRES tonight. By the way, the baby and van both came today. Now, our family has plenty of room!
If anybody is shopping in N.VA for the Ody, email me and I can give you a rundown on our experience at Richmond Honda. Of all the dealers from Woodbridge to Richmond, I can say that they kept their word on every detail of our agreement. Summary: MSRP + 975 'options' + 7/100/0 Honda Care warranty for 797, 89 doc fee, total out the door a bit more than 32,000. Provided financing for 6.04%, 60 months.
I had 8,000 miles on it and also had dealer installed leather, honda security system and mud guards.
I agreed for the $24K trade in value because the dealer guaranteed that trade in value 2 months out when the new vehicle arrives. That was the same dealer in Brooklyn that I had initially purchased the vehicle from. The additional incentive for not selling on your own and trading in is when you trade in you are only liable for the tax on the difference between the cost of the two vehicles. That saved me an additional $1,500.
The trade in price I got for my vehicle wasn't that out of line. Even if you look at the Kelly Blue book value for this vehicle it ranges from $23,405(wholesale price) to $28,570 (Suggested Retail Price).
A dealer in NJ actually gave me a trade in value of $25K but he wasnt willing to guarantee that price until when the new vehicle arrived. So I took the safe bet and went with someone I knew and a tradein price that is guaranteed.
One of the great things about the Ody is the fact that it retains its value so well.
Been very happy with the 00 Ody, and expect to be even happier with the 02. One of the
Price of new car: $30,690
Price of trade-in: $24,000
Difference: $ 6,690
Tax (at 6%): $ 401.40
The other expenses such as plates etc... amounted to about another $120.
I submitted a deposit of $500 and the difference due when the vehicle comes in is something like $6,700.
This is one of the primary benefits of trading in your used car. You don't get to take advantage of this when you sell yourself.
Correct, except it's not just several states. In fact, the only states which do NOT permit such a reduction are CA, VA, and MI.
I was a bit surprised to see that auto manufacturers were even using air shipment. Perhaps it is for the lighter electronic components.

When we drove it home from the dealership (my husband drove) I noticed the front passenger seat was short front to back. I know there has been a lot of complaints about leg room, so I thought maybe they shortened the seat to give it more leg room. The driver seat is also shorter. I am short (5'2") In every car I have ever driven the seat has touched the back of my knees and the seat doesn't touch the back on my knees in the Odyssey. I am going to have a hard time getting used to this. I just don't feel like I am in the seat securely.
Also the armrest is too short and needs to be a bit higher (in comparison to my '98 Grand Caravan)
I also really don't like the leather. I find it too slippery. My husbands car has bucket seats, and you sink into the leather, but in a van you don't sink into it.
I spent a lot of time researching between SUV, station wagons, and minivans. I went with the minvan because the doors are so much easier getting kids in and out. I turned in my leased Caravan in August, and I drove a Ford Taurus for 6 weeks. The biggest issue was the doors (especially in the garage). It was so hard twisting my back and bending down to squeeze them into their carseats.

I got the extended warranty 7/100/0. My husband was working the numbers with the Honda finance person ( I was in the play area with the kids) My husband come over to me and said it was $899 (Which I know is what people have paid). So I said fine. Later on when I looked over the paperwork they charged us an extra $50 to make it 0 deductible. (which I wasn't happy about, but it was too late) So we actually paid $949.
Then sales tax brought it to $1005. So I was wondering if some people are quoting their extended warranty price with tax.
Also, I believe you have 30 days to get your refund from your dealer for HCW. Read your paperwork from HCW, NOT the ones from the dealer. Or, call the 800 number and get the scoop on the HCW. Go back to your dealer and get a refund. THEN, buy it from other dealers. BTW, no tax from Texas dealers for the warranty.
Good luck.
Must be my brain not working on the search engines....

pat84 - maybe I could trade paint jobs with you....
Good Luck.
Is this the way it works or am I going to be waiting until this exact vehicle hits their inventory just by luck?
Should I be checking with other dealers for this vehicle or am I safe in having the deposit at one dealer?
I guess I need to take a more active role again and start to talk to other dealers. My $500 deposit is refundable. This dealer is selling at MSRP, so it's not going to be easy.
Anybody remember the link?
