sat we call around to see who has what envoys. this dealership says they have 6 to pick from so off we go. i am suppose to talk to junior who was busy the whole time with another customer. so a salesman named jim who copied our liscense and takes us for a testdrive. we both take turns driving around the block(2-3 miles each max). i started looking at the sticker and didn't even want to read it. i know what a 4wd slt with sunroof and leather and premium package goes for. i saw the leather. i saw the 6cd changer so i figuered this is it. perfect color and everything. i got my internet papers with me. i know their invoice (or close too it). so as we are waiting for junior to finish up i tell the guy jim , look at my papers i don't want to be here all day. is there a internet sales or someone i can talk to. i know what i want to pay. i showed him the papers from carsdirect and edmunds. i say i want the 4wd slt model with the premium package. i want a lease for 60 months. here is what i wanna pay as a down 2000$, ( i show him my own notes on paper) etc.

my guess is that they didn't have any 4wd on the lot. so they tricked me into this one. as jim was writing me up it was all on his write up paper. i asked 3 times if i could see the invoice. he never came back with it. i asked him if it was legal for me to ask for it and for him to show it too me. he just never brang it. i decided that the invoice must be $700 dollars lower then what i have on carsdirect and he is protecting his $700 space he has to work with. if he gave me a look at the invoice i am sure i would of looked it over real good i have always wanted to see what one looked like. it was gonna be held side by side with my tmv edmunds printout. it would of had the price around $32743 loaded 2wd instead of the $34627 4wd.

the whole time we are dealing i have all this 4wd paperwork and he even looks at it a few times. even holding it in his hands and then setting it back down.

this guy wasn't new and i know he knew what he was doing.

i gotta get the specifics. how do i get outta this? i got 150miles on it and bought it sat. it is now tues.

so i paid for 4wd prices and got a 2wd. its not gonna help to pay another 1500$ difference tagged on.

my agreed on GROSS CAP COST IS $34,575. that is a good deal for them on a 4wd even . carsdirect has their price at 33050 with all the options i wanted. i even showed this to the jim sales guy. i had to aftermarket a sunroof (not all slt have sunroof) for 1200 in the deal. so the price was higher then want i wanted and agreed to pay the higher to get the car that day. i wanted it that day i wasn't sure how long the carsdirect deals take on a popular suv.

    whats next i need help.

on my lease papers it says envoy. no 2wd or 4wd if that helps.

gotta go to work please post with info. ;P

I received the part numbers for the TB mudguards and I have two more questions. Are the gmpartsdirect.com prices per mudguard or per pair? Also, how easy is the install on these? Do they snap on or is there a need for drilling?

For those interested, the part numbers are:

12497608 front splash guards with bowtie logo except 2-tone paint

12497726 front splash guards with bowtie logo with 2-tone paint

12497609 rear splash guards with bowtie logo

Hi all. I am back again and can't believe the number of posts this board generates. I think its kinda sad that I need to come here BEFORE I take my Envoy in for service, because half the time, they never fix what I bring it in for. So here's my new dilemma-While driving, there is a whistle-like noise coming from the engine. It goes away when I stop, but resumes again as soon as I hit 20+ mph. I read in one post, but I am no service expert, that maybe it is the front axle seal??? It doesn't do it all the time, and you all know what happens, on your way to the service dept. the car doesn't do it. I get "bring it back while it is doing it!" Well, alot of good that does me at 10:00pm when no one is there. I have learned to be very specific when bringing it in for service, so I need help with this one. Also, brought it in for wandering mirrors, they claimed it was fixed, but low and behold, still not right. Any ideas on this noise? Has anyone else experienced this?

Go back to the dealer and ask to speak with the sales manager, then the business or general manager, then if they don't meet your needs, you will need a lawyer.

If they have processed the title, you're probably screwed.

Just took delivery of my new Summit White 2002 TB lastnight. I LOVE the ride, teh quality of the materials, the stereo, everything! I did get a bit of wind noise through the driver door but I assume it's because they didn't put silicone on them. I usually silicone all my weatherstrips and never had that issue so hopefully that takes care of that. Otehr than that I love it!

For those people with the vibration in the peddle, he is my latest update. I finally took the car in for the first service. The vibration was one of the things on the list. They called and said that they could not reproduce problem (did anybody except anything less??) I said that when I come back I will go out with tech and reproduce for them. I am writing this before I go back. I will update later on the results with the tech ride.

In the mean time, I called Chevy assistance. They opened a case for me. The guy said that he didn't see anything about this problem in the database the he looks stuff up in. (I wonder if there is something out there but he doesn't have access to it? Who knows is GM knows about it or not???)

I asked how GM get notified about potential problems. He basically said through the dealer network and from direct calls to the assistance line.

So, if everybody who is having this problem calls this number to open a case, hopefully GM will start to realize that there is a problem and they will start to research it.

Going back to the dealer is not going to help you. The dealer did nothing wrong! YOU chose the vehicle and agreed on a price.

Hopefully this will teach you a lesson that it's not anyone elses responsibility to ensure you get the car you want except yourself.

Could someone please repost the item numbers for the running boards specifically for the Bravada. I've tried backtracking several hundred post and have yet to find them. Thanks.

While it may be that playing on the sympathy of the dealer might do some good, my suspicion is that you will probably have to live with your purchase. I hope I am mistakened but ...

In any event, buying a new vehicle is something you want to take your time in doing and you want to be ready the first time you go through the door to walk back out the door.

Some of you may know of this site, others may not, but the best web site I have ever seen on new and used vehicle buying/leasing and other things that go with it is www.carbuyingtips.com Jeff Ostroff is the author and I have used the lessons of this site in my last two purchases and have found it to be invaluable. Plus the stories he tells are tremendous. I spent several days just reading this site before I ever went and made my deal in 1999 for the wife's Grand Am GT. I followed Jeff's advice and guidance, was ready with my spreadsheets when I went through the door, and came home with the car she wanted at the price we KNEW was fair for us and the dealer.

Check it out and tell others about the site.

On similiar lines with icojones (thanks for posting the parts numbers for the mud guards, they haven't emailed me back yet), is the price for the runningboards ($209) for one or for both? For those who have ordered, you info would be much appreciated...

The prices for the mudguards are per pair, so I'd bet the running boards are the same. The running boards cost about $300 from the factory, so you can use that as a guideline to determine if you're getting onw or two.

FYI to all prospective buyers. The chance to get 5.9% financing along with the $2002 rebate runs out on Thursday, Jan 17. After that, only the rebate will be available.
  • golemitgolemit Member Posts: 3
I got a bit concerned reading that since I don't plan on buying a Trailblazer for a couple of weeks. I called the 800 number off the Chevrolet current offers page and was told 5.9% financing would be available through Feb. 28th. I was told it was geographically based, I'm in Chevrolet's South East region.

I have seen several postings about wandering outside mirrors on Envoys. Is this true for both trim styles, the SLE and SLT? Or is it just related to the more expensive SLT mirrors? I think the SLT mirrors have more features, don't they?
    Thanks.

Sport Truck Magazine has just announced the GMC ENVOY as the "SUV OF THE YEAR". Look for the article in the March, 2002 issue. The Envoy is really accumulating some great awards, along with the Motor Trend award. I've had mine over 4 months now, 4WD & 1SK package, with no problems so far. I receive numerous complements on it wherever I go. For all you triplet owners with the DVD Rear Seat Entertainment System, I've found an inexpensive, easy way to play your movies and listen to them through your factory stereo system, since GM will only allow you to hear the sound through the headphones. I went to Best Buy and purchased the Arkon Soundfeeder. You plug the audio input cord of the Soundfeeder into the vehicle's wired headphone jack, located in the front of the DVD unit and set your radio to any FM station which is not being used. It transmits the DVD audio to your FM stereo speakers. Cost for the each unit is $19.95. You can either get the SF100, which plugs into the cigarette lighter for power or the SF120, which uses a "AA" battery for power. They both work great. It's ideal for those tailgate parties. You can store it in the "center (large)" roof storage holder, while playing a movie, where it's out of sight. This application works great with the SF120, since you don't have to worry about a hanging cord to the cigarette lighter. It's the size of the palm of your hand. Happy viewing.

My wife and I purchased a Magnetic Red Envoy in September 2001. Well just 4 months later the dash seems to be doing it's own thing. When we start the engine there is this loud sound before the gages on the dash move. The same thing occurs once you turn the engine off. There's a loud sound then the pegs move. A week ago the Service Engine light came. The dealership indicated it was the gas cap. The problem is fixed right, Wrong!! The light came on again. The Service engine light turns on and off at varying times. Well yesterday the airbag light came on and it hasn't turned off. Has anyone had a similar problem occur?

Now, my wife is complaining about a loss of power. She says the truck seems to be dragging. She believes that something is wrong with the transmission. She indicates the problem is real noticeable in the morning.

After reading some of the posts on this board, I went out to garage to look at the rear of the truck and I noticed the paint problem around that plastic piece on the back. Now I'm getting real pissed. Hopefully GM can get these problems fixed.

GM updated the incentive program 1/15/02 for most regions except SouthEast to include 5.9% + $2002 cash back until 2/28/02. The southeast plan runs until 1/31/02. You can check this at www.gmfamilysavings.com under regional incentives.
YOU MUST READ THE FINE PRINT!!!!!!!!! they make this very obscure on purpose.

Does anyone know if there is any other way to play DVD sound through the Envoy's Bose System other than through purchasing an FM Modulator?
Why would GM not make it playable through the speakers if they are marketing it for families? I have two young kids that probably are not old enough to keep headphones on. Thanks
  • bryancosbryancos Member Posts: 282
You could just install an small pair of PC speakers for the kiddos, tho it's probably not as practical as the modulator and the sound quality would suffer.

    Hey folks, here's the latest.

The GM Customer Relationship Manager that I had been working with finally got back to me today. I was waiting for her to get in touch with the GM Representative who looked at my car and who said that they weren't going to do anything about it because the paint was "allowable".

    To quote her:

"First of all, we have been advised that if and when there is a fix for this issue, it will not be coming out for another year or so. "

To which I replied that I figured that's what he was going to say and I thanked her for her help and that my only recourse is to take legal action. To which she replied:

"We are sincerely sorry that we were not able to come up with a satisfactory solution for you. We
can certainly understand your feelings regarding this situation. We are going to close your file
dissatisfied. However if you should have any other concerns, please do not hesitate to e-mail us again."

Guess what. THEY DON'T CARE! There is NO INDICATION that they are going to fix this problem. We're stuck with it. The award winning trucks that have "allowable" paint scrapes.

I have said if before and I will say it again. Everyone with the paint problem that GM will not fix needs to contact the Consumer Protection Division of his or her state Attorney General's Office. My Envoy has the problem, but you have to really be looking for it to even see it. It is not bad enough for me to risk getting the tailgate repainted, as I seriously doubt anyone could correctly match the color and texture of the original Indigo Blue Metallic paint job. I will live with it, but I may do some bitching about it anyway. Mine goes in Friday for the wandering mirror module fix and the sunroof headliner velcro fix. I still love the car every time I drive it and would go get another one just like it if it was destroyed or stolen tomorrow. Maybe we can nominate the triplets for a new award to go with all of the others-Acceptable Defect of the Year! (ADOY) :-)

My wife and I bought a 2002 Bravada about 1 month ago. So far only a couple minor problems. But we are concerned about, in the event of a crash, the safety of rear seat passengers due to there only being 1 latch to secure the wider rear seat bottom. See posts 2971 & 2995 for more information. The middle part of the seat is not secured and we will need to put a car seat there in a few months. I looked at a Bravada, an Envoy, and a TB at the Philadelphia auto show last week and they were all made this way. It seems that GM is relying on a seat-belted passenger to keep the seat in place. Does anybody else out there agree that this is a safety issue that GM should correct or are we just overly concerned? I contacted Oldsmobile about getting another latch installed but have had no luck so far. If you were not already aware of this, take a look at your rear middle seat bottom and see just how loose it is. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks.
  • vplazavplaza Member Posts: 47
This is probably why the Envoy manual explicitly says NOT to install a child seat in the center position.

Yeah, I was ticked off about that too since I have two child seats to install, but I was simply informed to go to my local fire department or police department for assitance with installing the child seat properly. Pretty much useless talking to GM.

Gibson is working a complete catback exhaust, but they don't have a part number published on their site:

Borla is just a slacker -- no info or plans...

Flowermaster makes a 50 Series SUV Performance

muffler that comes in many sizes to fit just about anything, but there's nothing specific for the triplets.

  • shapiro3shapiro3 Member Posts: 11
Let me start by saying I have not yet looked closely at the back seat of the triplets, but my family has had 3 Yukons with the same style folding back seats and the large side only has one latch. I believe this is to make it easier to flip the seat down and I do not think it compromises the saftely at all.

First of all, the single latch that is there provides a good amount of security I would imagine. Second, if anyone is seated in the back, they are supposed to (by law) be wearing their seatbelt. If they are, then the seatbelt will hold them down against the seat and it will not be able to move.

Second of all, our first Yukon rolled over one and a half times on the interstate doing about 65mph towing a 24ft boat. There were two people in the backseat (my brother and me) and even though the Yukon landed upside down, the seats did not come loose. (By the way, all four of us walked away from the crash thanks to the seatbelts).

I think this is being made into a bigger deal than it needs to be. While I am not claiming that GM is perfect and that there couldn't possibly be anything wrong with the design, I think that if the rear seat was inclined to release it would have shown up during crash testing (especially when the seat was unoccupied) and then would have been fixed or altered if it were a problem.

Just my humble opinion of course!

Are you people that bored that you spend all day staring at your license plate hoping your paint will get better? This board is turning into an obsessive compulsive disorder workshop to see who can find the slightest problem first. How many people come up to you and notice a miniscule scrape of paint that looks like wax in a crevice and look down on you? The truck is a brand new model and problems do arise and will be dealt with in an order of importance I would imagine. No car is perfect in this price range at least,so maybe you should save your pennies and buy something else. You knew the risks buying first year but had to have one anyways so relax and enjoy it.You people act like you just bought Bentleys or a Rolls Royce it's a grocery getter and a decent one too.If this was your last purchase forever then you lose but most people keep cars 2-3 years and get something else.I bought mine knowing small things would arise but don't let them ruin my day. This is not my daily driver and was purchased mainly to drive in winter but still performs very well at it despite your end of the world paint issue.

    Hey Gang,

Tlauro was right about the wandering mirror fix! I had my driver's side mirror replaced in December due to the yellow turn signal indicator being broken off, I noticed that the new mirror worked flawlessly whereas the passenger mirror still had a "mind of it's own." On a recent trip to my dealer, I told him about this "crazy" passenger-side mirror and he stated that they placed another one on order BUT they were on national back order.. hmmm I wonder why? Everyone's figuring out that if they have these mirrors replaced with newer models, the control module code has been revised to correct the problem!

After reading tlauro's post # 3302, I pulled out my paperwork from when I had the driver's side mirror replaced. Sure enough it states: replaced mirror with special order part # 15097470! Well.. that replacement mirror took care of the driver's side, but I wanted to ensure that this would correct the problem. I contacted the dealership that tlauro had worked with and was informed by the service tech that replacing these mirrors with the newer models should resolve this problem! My local dealership called today to inform me that my "back-ordered" mirror had arrived and that they will install it next Monday, January 21st (part # 15097471).

All in all, I think that we now have a solution to the mirror problem on the triplets! Special thanks to tlauro for helping in this effort! Since the mirrors are on back-order, I would strongly advise that IF you are experiencing problems with your mirrors, you may want to make a special trip over to your local dealer so that you can get in the "queue!" Good luck everyone and Happy Motoring!!!

PS: Anyone know of any decent Grand Am discussion boards? I am purchasing a 02 Pontiac Grand Am GT1 (4 Dr -- Pewter Metallic w/ graphite leather) this Friday as a second car and would like to do a little more research before purchasing.

    Thanks!

Gee, hmaximo, tell us how you really feel.

If this board isn't for topics such as these, then what is it for?

p.s. I don't know for sure, yet, but I think you're gonna win an award for "Most Sympathetic Poster."
  • iexplore2000iexplore2000 Member Posts: 237
Well.. to say the least.. I strongly disagree with your logic centering around the paint issue. Please don't take this the wrong way but just a fact of life IMO.

First, you have to realize... WE did not go out and purchase $3,995 Yugo's or the like, but instead we INVESTED our hard earned money into something that cost well over $30,000! For that kind of MONEY, I would expect my build quality to be top notch in addition to other areas of concern (i.e. safety, etc.). WHEN you visit a restaurant and they bring you food with a FOREIGN object in it, do YOU simply look the other way?? I would think NOT correct? You more than likely would ask them to take the food back and RE-SERVE it properly yes??? Well.. the same principle applies to those who frequent this board! I am proud that this board even exists! IF it wasn't for this type of media, there would be plenty of misinformed triplet owners out there getting the "SHAFT" from the various service departments throughout the WORLD.. EVERY service order would state, "Unable to Duplicate Problem!"

IF you feel content having a vehicle of this caliber with chipping paint and other correctable defects then YOU go right ahead.. I don't think that anyone on this board would try to convince you otherwise because for those of us who CARE, we use this board as a collaboration tool for such issues, comments, concerns whether GOOD or BAD. Additionally, with all the incentives being offered through GM, a great majority of the people on this board may have PURCHASED this vehicle and plan to keep it for the long-haul (like me), therefore a 3 to 4 year switch is not on my list of "things to do."

All in all.. KEEP POSTING EVERYONE! I think that the insight gained from this board is invaluable!

    Happy Motoring!

    Dennis D.

For being the voice of reason about this subject.

Unfortunately, not everyone feels the way you do. Yes, you're right no one should desire perfection in a car in this price range. Guess what, perfection doesn't exist at any price range. But you're wrong to assume that it shouldn't be a concern to people. Maybe you have a light colored car and don't see it so it doesn't matter. But the other half of the owners have dark colored cars and you know what? After a while, that dark colored rear door/hatch will look like crap, not just wax trapped in the crevice.

Why does this bother me so much when it doesn't pose a mechanical or safety issue? Because it affects the value of this vehicle. Not everyone is going to drive this until they die, so when it comes time to trade it in or sell it, this "minor" flaw will turn out to be a major loss to those who do choose to part with it.

So, sorry if you think it sounds like we're saying the world is going to end. (Funny, I don't recall ever posting that the world was going to end unless GM fixed my paint, but I guess you were able to infer that.) And I am not terribly happy with GM's stance that they will not do anything about it. Some have already said that the fix seems like a simple and cheap one. If so, then why doesn't GM just fix it and be done?

Bottom line is GM doesn't want to spend money on something they feel they don't abosolutely need to. Hmm, they felt it necessary to fix the wandering mirrors. Did that pose a safety issue. I bet it cost more to make more mirror modules than to get a simple gasket for this piece. It doesn't make sense. If you're happy with that, then good for you. If others are not, then what compels you to comment?

If I had known about this defect while I was looking at cars, I probably would have held off or bought a different vehicle. It sounds like you feel otherwise, but personally, I would NOT have wanted to pay $30,000+ for a vehicle with a paint problem. I also think that if others knew about it, it would also weigh in on their final decisions. Hence, the need to communicate it on this board.
  • cwhawkcwhawk Member Posts: 38
My LTZ (white) had the paint problem appear today. The only difference is that on the white vehicle, the problem appears to be a dark black scratch. I called Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020 and the representative checked their system and stated that there were no paint problems known by Chevrolet. WOW !

Everyone with any problems should call Chevrolet or GMC and report the problem and get a case number. Maybe if we banded together in a class action they would take notice.

    Hello everyone!

I am so glad to hear that others are having this problem.

Here's mine, my wondering mirror on my passenger side has been replaced once already. Now I have to take it in again, but this time for both sides, maybe GM will see it as a recall.

Here's another thing you might want to look for, if you notice your gas mileage is getting worse, take it in, there is a little cylinoid in your engine compartment that controls the fuel flow into the carborator, which is rich to lean fuel settings, which automatically controls lean/rich settings for your carborator. The replacement of this cylinoid will bring your gas mileage back up to normal mileage.
Believe me you will now when this happens, before you know it your Trailblazer will only go about 100 miles to a tank of gas or less, when the cylinoind is not working properly, the gas just pours right through it.
  • vplazavplaza Member Posts: 47
I know I've seen the problem on Envoys and Trailblazers, but I don't think anyone with a Bravada has mentioned that their vehicle has the problem.

Would a Bravada owner check their vehicle to see if they have it too? Just curious.

Hi all, long time reader-first time poster. I have a loaded LTZ TB in white/pewter all options except sunroof.
I am having a potentially serious problem. At 65mph-2000 rpms the truck will suddenly surge to 3500 rpms then drop right back to normal.
It will do this every few minutes. It almost feels as if the tranny disengages, I really have no idea what the problem is, lots of possibilities.
It is at the dealership and I was curious if anyone else has experienced a similar problem?
Help - I need it & the dealership most definitely does!
    I also have wandering mirrors.
    Thanks for the help!

On the rear lift gate, but the rest of the paint is flawless.

Much better than my 00 Lincoln LS that had real bad paint all over.

I will not have the paint fixed, nor complain about it. Sometime down the road I will put in some welt to hide/fix/prevent.

I had a high fan noise and Bravada is at the dealer now for a reprogram of the pcm.

The wife and I have a 99 Grand Am GT1 coupe, bought new, and it is really a nice car. Quick, agile, good mileage, well built. One of the best automotive values from an American car company. A lot of car for the money.

    Regards,

    Steve

Since we don't like to lose eyeballs to competing forums too much, don't forget to try the Pontiac Grand Am discussion here. (not to mention dozens of other Grand Am topics in the archives - try the search tool).

I have not had this problem, but there is a recall for high speed engagement problems with the transmission. It sounds like what you have could be this issue??

A skid plate over the spare would also improve the looks and improve offroad abilities. The front? well, guess I'll be real careful.I have the skid plate option-It seems solid,in the right places and should compensate for the TB's somewhat low clearance.Who is going to market the first suspention lift kit?

Concerning the decreasing MPG, do you have a specific part number, for the cylinoid.I can use to tell our dealer, they don't know anything (nor do I), but luckly we have this board. Thank you in advance.

My black Bravada has the problem. Not bad at all, but it is still unacceptable at any level. I would like them to come out with a rubber gasket that would go in between the two. Then they could use touchup paint to prevent rust, and the gasket would prevent future chipping and would cover any cosmetic dammage.
