nice pic on that other board, av--now we got to get some more power on that board---hey SDmike--how about posting a pic of your duals over on that board--and 300Michael--we need ya man--post a pic of your hood scoop and dual setup---lets blow them away--hell, maybe we should post that doctored up pic of Rogor's M with the engine bulging out of the hood and the fire breathing side exhausts---really would blow them away! :-)

OK, I've grown tired of arguing with those LS weenies in the comparisons thread. I am proud to say that I smoked a Lexis IS today at a red light. Even better, I did it without even breaking the speed limit!

Under floormat about 6-8 inches in front of the seat in line with the accelerator pedal. It's dry at the ends, & sides, & dry all the way up the dash, & center console. I'm getting it on a lift over the weekend to see if a seam or hole or something is there.

Still remember the ZF 5-speed tranny story. CHRYSLER dropped it due to "high cost". WHY OFFER a few thousands of rebate instead of put a good tranny in the car ? 3 years ago, even with 4-speed 300M did OK. Now others are catching up in power(TL,MAXIMA,ALTIMA...), with only cosmetic changes each year, no surprise sales drop to 3400 in June.

If you smoked an IS, then he wasn't racing you.

How does DC come up with the HP ratings for the 300M? Is it just the engine tested without the drivtrain added? For a car with 250hp, it really doesn't feel like it. That's the 1 major problem I have with the 300M. Even with all the upgrades I have done. It's still SO SLOW off the line.
  • wencaowencao Member Posts: 52
QUESTION about tranny problem. AND INTREPID ES/RT all have 3.5L V6, what makes 300M a buy over INTREPID without a better tranny? A luxury car is not because of its heated leather seats and bababa mirrors, but its drivtrain, chasis&body, suspension.

I'll tell you exactly why I beat the IS (who was racing me)! First off the autostick with torque lock up converter allowed me to do something a manual tranny can't -- torque load the powertrain by applying both brake and power. At start my M had already built up 3000 rpm and who knows how much ft lbs of torque. All I had to do was release the brake and turn the built-up power loose. This was all before he was even able to release his clutch much less build any kind of power. The next thing to note was this was just between 2 red lights less than 1/4 mile apart. Simply put I beat him off the blocks.

Av - That spoiler link works fine for me. Try IE if you're using Netscape.

Roger - Will do. Brought the camera with me today. I'll take pictures of everything interesting. :)

I have the same colour as you, but except the wood trim, I have not done anything to it,I have not figured out how to use my trusty Brownie Hawkeye Camera yet, so I have not taken any pictures.I may do the Zaino, but I have not put an order in yet. I had someone the other day comment on the colour and state, it was the prettiest, he had seen. I told him to go to my dealer and get my other M with the same colour but without side airbags because it is still sitting on the lot.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
which IS are you talking about? Lexus IS300? that thing does not come with manual transmission yet.
  • sirharpersirharper Member Posts: 112
If the IS doesn't have a manual trans then I smoked him with no good reason why?
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
The IS300 Does not have a manual tranny. But it also has something like Autostick. I really hope you don't do that alot. That's a real quick way to destory the tranny/drivtrain. The 300M is just not built for doing things like that.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I'd love for you to get the brownie working. I'm considering wood trim and it would be awesome to see what it looked like in advance. Where did you get your trim? Do you have the luxury group? If so, does the trim match the real wood?

How does one disconnect/disengage the odometer? Some one answered remove spark plug! Come on now. I won't send the Feds over. Just interested in how this is possible. I have been told by a tech that there are 3 computers on the 300M that keep track of miliage. Is this a pipe dream like Avs technicians reprogramming the computer to eliminate the speed limiter.

NOW i understand this problem. 2 years of keeping my hand in the same spot, guess it was bound to happen. it feels like snake skin. oh well, now i have an excuse to redo the leather

Re. leak. I had a problem like that on my 1972 911T, tried argon gas, talcum powder... Anyways best thing to do is lift the carpet from suspected area, ensure it's all dry and apply talcum powder to whole area. Close all windows and run the garden hose, frist straight down - check for leak and then at an angle (which is what was wrong with the 911T). The break in the talcum powder shoudl tell you where the leak is coming from. Hope that helps,

As the proud previous owner of a '68 383 Roadrunner (low 12s at the track) I respectfully urge you not to place a Superbee or Roadrunner emblem on the M. The latter has NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to do with the former in either power or any other class. Just my super sensitive nature...man I miss by Roadrunner....

Mike, I have all the bells and whistles on this car, except the smokers group. I bought the wood trim from Joshua Tree. The match is great. The only problem I had was with the piece that fits on the radio face, it had a crack in it and I had to order another piece which has not come in yet. I read a post here from one of the guys who was having a problem with the kit they got from Joshua and was attempting to get reimbursed through his credit card company as he was not satisfied with the fit and also the crack he had on his seat control piece. The piece I put on was a flat piece so it should not have cracked. I did not check it properly before applying, so it's my problem, and of course this has to be the most expensive piece. Oherwise it looks great. I see others asking about the full face piece for around the clock. The ones I see are plastic and if you have the model with real Burl, then I don't think you want to add cheap plastic to it. Just my .02.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Thanks for the info. I thought maybe that full face piece was wood as well. Your car sounds like a carbon copy of mine, except I have the smoker's group (in a box in my garage). It must be like looking at your own car when I post pictures. Again, I'd love to see that wood if you can find a way to photograph it. Maybe you have a friend with a digital camera?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Maybe the tide has turned. We seem to have a leg up with our "with the extra $8,000 that the V8 LS costs over the M we could make a 350HP 6 second M" arguement. That combined with a picture of Av's scoop and discussion of Nitrous...lol

Ups just delivered my new wood piece now I will have to remove the old piece and this might be a job and a half. It's hot here to-day so I'll put my car out in the sun and try to peal the old one off. I will be getting some pictures of my car and put it on the site, I have been too lazy.I noticed that this replacement piece came from a company called Woodmark de Mexico located in Tijuana Mexico. I tried to locate it on the net but my computer skills are limited, it might be worthwhile locating this company and maybe cut out the middle man, plus I would love to get a real shifter in the California Burl, not a cheap plastic wannabee plus a full face for the clock area. I do see my car in yours but you have all those mods, and I do not want to get carried away because this is a lease and I think I may buy it out when my lease is up, but there may be another car out there that I like better, plus my DC dealer tells me that they will not honour the warranty, if I get carried away. It may be different south of the border.

Just washed my deep slate M and parked it by a return shopping cart corral filled with bright red carts, and the fresh bright yellow stripes on the new black asphalt parking lot, all reflecting off my shiny Emmy... It was beautiful! *snif*
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I understand completely on the mods. I'm sure I'll have some issues with the warranty folks if there is anything they can remotely tie to the exhaust (e.g. blown seal due to change in engine pressure due to exhaust mods...) even if totally unrelated. I live about 30 miles north of Tijuana, so maybe I'll just run on down there and stock up wood trim and my own trim retail company. My guess is that this stuff wholesales pretty cheap. :) I'm looking forward to the pics.

    Hi
In response to your post, I have one of these, too, a 2001 with 1500 miles and a sandstone interior, the PHG and all the extras except the full-size spare (which I'd like to buy). It's great. I've been Zaino-ing it, and it's pretty nice looking. Unlike yours, though, I have a clear bra, which I like a lot. I live in Albuquerque, maybe I should try to arrange a 300M Enthusiasts Club gathering in this part of the country some time....

Three of four windows started showing some pretty nasty scratches within a couple of weeks after having a local Ziebart store tint my windows.

Here's the end result: The Ziebart store was more than helpful. When I brought my M in for their inspection, they re-tinted the windows on the spot. The problem appears to have been in the fact that the interior rubber/felt seals, which get pushed down when the film is applied, remained inverted (pushed down) after the tint job. Any small pieces of grit were therefore pushed into the windows by the rubber seal, rather than being swept away by the felt strip. I don't know if these seals normally pop back into place or if they have to be pulled back up (as Ziebart did with mine a day after applying the new tint film)--either way, I think that Ziebart goofed. But, they were willing to stand behind their product and did everything I could have expected to make things right.

Got shirts and pictures of other stuff, including sweatshirts (heavily discounted like the polos), hats, denim shirts, and jackets. Box on the way to you. We will have an issue with hats because of the complexity of the logo and size limitations. We'll have to either ditch the idea or come up with a plan B. I'll email you the details.

Yikes! You parked it by a shopping cart corral? You are a braver and much more trusting soul than I am....but I'm sure it was beautiful!

I just hope the next *snif* you post isn't because of a shopping cart dent...

    Anyway, ain't nature grand...? *snif*

Congrats on what I think is one of the few success stories with Ziebart. In my search for tinting companies I came across site after site of complaints, issues and lawsuits related to Ziebart. The BBBs are full of complaints about shoddy materials, work, and customer service.

A southwest meeting of Inferno Red Ms? Cool! ;) I'd like to see your clear nose cover sometime (ok, no "you can't see it, it's clear" jokes).

I probably saved you a few bucks, I was thinking of doing it as part time thing up here in Canada as we really get burned by the difference in dollar. If you get down there to Tijuana, let us know how much this trim costs and also if you can get a real wood shifter. I also looked into putting on the invisable shield on the front to protect the front and lights. They suggest that Ziebart is the place to go, but I am gun shy from reading all the posts regarding Ziebart. I also asked these people at Parts Source about buying Zaino wihout going throgh the internet and they suggested that Mequiars and Mothers California Gold was better, any comments? I,m on my way to try to remove the damaged wood trim. It may be harder than I thought.

    1. If someone has taken the time and energy to bring a cart to a corral, they will complete their mission safely. 2. One side of my car will be blocked from car doors being opened by pigs that drive.
  • mboomgarden1mboomgarden1 Member Posts: 49
I discovered what you're describing only after having Ziebart do my tinting. If I had seen these tales of woe earlier, I probably would have shopped around some more. Since the stores are mostly franchises, it may be a little unfair to generalize, but it looks like, on the whole, they do have some problems--perhaps a result of the fact that they try to do everything from detailing to running boards to tinting (and a jillion other services and products).

Still, I always take what I read on the Internet with a grain of salt--anyone can say anything and it's easy to incorrectly extrapolate that there's a systemic problem when in fact what you're reading may be the rants of an isolated few. That's why I feel compelled to report my good experiences as well as my bad ones on the bulletin boards in which I participate. We'll see how this all works out, but right now I feel like the people I'm dealing with are trying to do the right thing.

It's a pretty good drive to Monterey, but you would walk away with the Long Distance trophy. I'm driving about 900 miles from Seattle to get there, looks like a little over 1000 for you.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Getting nasty over there. Might overtake our board (we're number 1!) for number of posts tomorrow.
  • kenvankenvan Member Posts: 19
Roger: Yeah, unfortunately I can't make that trip this year, though the drive would be great.

sdmike: I just got a much better digital camera (someone here has a Fuji FinePix 1400 and I really liked their pictures, so I got a 2400), so I'm going to put some better pics on my very plain web page. I will take pics of the clear bra. It covers the front of the hood, front of the fenders, and the whole front fascia. I also got the thicker Lamp Guards for all of the front lights. I put them on myself pretty easily, and they are only noticable at about a foot away and then you can only see the line where the film ends.

    "Illegal Activities
Edmunds.com does not allow the promotion of illegal conduct, activities or fraudulent schemes in Town Hall. Specifically, you may not advocate illegal conduct, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Furthermore, you agree to not engage in any illegal activity in connection with your Postings."

I don't remember promoting (or advocating) any illegal activity. All I wanted to know was 1:is this possible 2: How is it done. My reason for wanting to know was to be able to make sure that my car has not been tampered with. I didn't tell someone to do this themselves or suggest that I will do it to my car. I think you should reread the TOS, because it doesn't say you can't discuss illegal activity it says..well read above!

It's me that has the Finepix 1400. I love it. With a 32MB card set at 640x480 fine quality I get about 180 pictures. That's about the battery life when not using the LCD screen :). Get yourself a nice set of rechargeable batteries. I also got an AC adapter so I didn't use the batteries when downloading, but with USB the downloads go so fast I don't think it's an issue. Oh...Fry's electronics has 64MB Smart Media cards on sale through today for $39.95. That's about 360+ pictures. :)

Hey guys, I am the one who had problems with the fit on my wood trim from Joshua Tree. The power seat wood cracked three days later after installing it and the shitfter trim, and several other wood pieces did not line-up right while dry fitting them. Very defective!

I fax over my complaint/dispute to my credit card company for investagation. I got letter back from my credit card company stateing that they recieved my fax and an investagation will begin in about 60 days. I will not have to pay for the defective wood trim until an out come of the investagation is determend!

BTW, someone else with an Intrepid posted here that he had problem too with his Joshua Tree trim!
  • kenvankenvan Member Posts: 19
I thought that was you with that camera! Will it take a 64mb card? That's a good price for one. I am going to buy an AC adapter too. I really like the pics of your car, and they look especially nice becuase of the palm trees and nice California looking house styles in the background. I just have adobe houses and desert here for a backdrop!

Thanks for your post tuscongil, I just finished removing the damaged piece and putting on the new one. It was a piece of cake, also helped that it was 36 degrees celsius here today, and if some of you that are not familiar with Centigrade temps, that's bloody HOT!!!!!!!!! I also took some pictures with my trusty Brownie Hawkeye and will attempt to scan and pass them on. The trim looks great and it was easier the second time around. Any comments on my wax question as to what is better?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
    I'm a fan of Zaino, but I've never tried the Maguires stuff. That's like 97F, isn't it (let's see...C temp times 9/5 + 32 =...)
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I got them not to say that I have a 12 second M but to make a small statement that my M is a cut above the stock M's out there. I too have had a 70 Challenger (very nice and liked the interior too) with a 440. It was a great car, but the M could out handle it in the curves and is easer to control. But if you are talking about stright off the line power it would be no contest. Although the M has been heading in the right direction. My friend is out of town so I can not try his tires on my M (Gforce). But as for the super bee emblems I think they were one of the best emblems ever.
