NISHA whats that?? Hey maybe they are going to put the HID lights on it , good . A higher output engine ,sounds like 300 H.P ,but we will have to wait to see if all these things really make the production model . I have heard many times that options will be added to cars and then it never happening . When I see the first one roll past me then I believe it. Then you all will be the first to know ,as always

    Av,

Sorry to see you learning the hard way dude. Hopefully you'll get things fixed in a jiffy.

I know you've learned a lot from this experience.

Funny thing I was thinking...I can't help but wonder how someone can be so creative and talented with custom body work, as you are, could've fumbled the brakes as you have. Oh well, then again, I can do brakes, piece of cake, but body work, heck, that's where I make a big mess of things.

Those thoughts to me were very funny. When you get the courage to do another brake job someday, you'll laugh too. Cheers.

two words....BIG BOOKS. gotta love'em. you guys doubt me too much. i went out to Barnes and NObles, grabbed a HOW TO book, and read basically the whole thing last night. this morning i went down to my best friend at the exxon station, he owns it and is a genius with mechanical stuff. so i explained everything to him, and told him what i was gonna do, he said i'm on the right track. now the problem was...i needed a new caliper, so i had to drive an hour to get one, 14 local shops, no front right caliper for 99' 300m. finally got it, gave the guy my old one. so i put on the brake pads (clips, hehe), hooked up all bolts and nuts, two behind rotor, and the air plug. NOW THIS IS WHERE I MESSED UP, last time when i bled the brakes, I DIDN't PUT THE CALIPERS ON THE ROTOR!!!! i just let them sit there on a pedastal, DUH! lol, the piston is only designed to go out so much, but without it on the rotor while bleeding the brakes, the pads pushed together, extending the piston right out of the seal. so that was my mistake, in turn ruining the caliper. and ThANK GOD my dad got home as well, he wasn't supposed to be in till monday but he got home early, and he's all good at this, so we bled the brakes, put on new pads, and we're done. except for one little thing.....you know the caliper guided ring, goes in the rubber hose (bolts caliper to rotor), well its sitting in my old caliper, which is an hour away at Carquest, i forgot to get it out. and the bolt won't stay without that, so its ALMOST done, i need to go get that monday, then its just 2 minutes screwing it in....and i spent so long painting the caliper :(

Auto Week's readers voted on the best American cars for this year---and among the top ten were: the Viper, the PT Cruiser, and the 300M. We're also the second most active site on Edmunds. The BMW is the most active. I think you guys can make us #1. To see the auto week site, just do a search for auto week . When are they going to fix this 115 letter limit for links--we need our own message board at the 300m Enthusiasts club site.

Good job, Av--I knew you wouldnt give up easily. Just think how easy it will be next time.
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
next time i won't be so dumbfounded, and i gotta read soem more. i got a whole new found respect for the car, its called the brake system...
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
lol, here we go again. first off if i got forged pistons (for nitrous system), how would you put them in without breaking seal and ruining caliper? i'm gonna email some companies see if there are any aftermarket applications.

--------sdmike, don't let my mishap guide your decision into taking it to dealer. i simply don't like other people under my hood. u should see this scratch, actually its like a scrape on the rear bumper, wasn't there when i dropped it off for speed sensor, got it back and wha-la, looks just like someone dropped the backside of a hammer on it.

I thought you might know what this means. It came straight out of Chrysler's dealer literature on 2002 changes. The dealer did not know what it meant. I guess we will all have to stay tuned to find out what it means. By the way - I really appreciate all of the info and perspective you bring to the discussion. Thanks.

Tried to install the intake this AM without, as you say, taking the car half apart. I could not get the intake onto the TB. The original equipment removed is not circular and without being able to get behind the connection to the TB I could not stretch the replacement hose to fit. It does not sound as if you experienced any such problem. Any advice would be most appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Easyrider300m...

I saw the article a week or two ago. Seems to me the 300m was second last year (ahead of the Lincoln LS) and this year it is 9th or 10th (behind the Lincoln LS). I was kinda disappointed that the 300M would be ranked below the Lincoln LS, complete with it's Taurus 6-cylinder engine.

I don't know how they complete these rankings. The 300M was on the Car & Driver top ten list for 1999 and 2000 and dropped in 2001. I think the 2001 is a better car than the 99 or 00. I think some of these rankings are political...

The limit there to keep people from typing 100 lines of aaaaaaaaaaa. ;) Many reach the limit when the URL they're posting is nowhere near 115 characters. I think the reason is that this forum software automatically creates the "a href" HTML for a URL (web link) entry, and then uses the URL again for the link title. If you post a URL and then go to edit your message you'll see what I mean. So, because the URL is in the text twice, plus other tags and HTML code, the maximum length of URL you can post without putting in your own HTML is about 50 or 52 characters. The way aound it is to post the HTML yourself, and manually give the link it's name....shorter than the URL....like I did in post 5701

not sure I get it--- aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

they should fix that limit of 115 letter links--

I'm going to see our options and get some pricing from our supplier on Monday. I too like the low profile hats with leather strapping (not plastic knobbies). I'll see what we can get and let Roger know. Maybe I'll come up with some pictures.

I've been lurking in this forum since I decided to buy a 'M earlier this year. Almost posted a couple of times with some info and advice but instead I'm asking for some advice from you all, particularly "ottowrkr" since he actually works where they build 'em.

Because I've waited this long, I have the choice of going with a 2001 or a 2002. Without regard to the fact that I could get a 2001 for less money, is there a reason not to go for the 2002? I'm not interested in the "2002.5" since the reported changes to ride height and the lower mouldings don't thrill me. A couple of the changes appear worthwhile but I don't want to wait that much longer.

I've always enjoyed excellent reliability with ChryCo vehicles (especially considering what I've put them through) but I don't have any experience with those built in the last ten years or so. Guess I'll find out if that experience continues with a 300M.

I travel down and up fifteen miles of mountain road (alt. 6100-1000 ft.) at least five days a week so I have concerns about the transmission (only because I wonder if there's any truth to there being significant problems with recent DC transmissions) but that's not stopping my purchase of the car. I figure I'll just get the extended warranty to cover any problems there. I seem to remember mention of combining engine and trans cooling in one unit, inferring that they were separate on previous models. Trans cooling is an important factor for my driving conditions so I'd probably have an auxiliary trans cooler installed (by dealer for warranty purposes) if that's possible. Anyone have any info pertaining to that particular aspect of the 'M?

Thanks for any info or advice.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
The m has proven very reliable as far as engine and transmission go. There is a small problem with a speed sensor which several owners have reported going bad. But its a small part and easy to install so I would not let it concern you. I havent heard of any major tranny probs with the LH cars. Only heard of one owner who had a major engine problem.

I dont believe they are combining cooling for the tranny and engine. I believe what you are referring to is that they are combining the electronic computer chips for the tranny and engine into one chip probably for cost cutting.

The M and the other LH cars are proving to be very reliable. Read my previous post a few posts back about the long term test by car and driver magazine. They had no problems in 40K of driving. Most of the problems on this board have been relatively minor such as shrinking weatherstrip, slight tire pulling (mostly with the discontinue goodyear tires), and a few other very minor issues. Most people here are very happy with their M's.

For more information about the M, go to the 300M Enthusiast Club site and check out the links.

Here is the link. You should consider joining as the club has many benefits such as dealer service discounts, nice logo apparel and club meets.

first I loosened the clamp for the TB and the end of the long stright pipe. I did this so that I could get my hands to better grip the rubber bend at the TB. I then slipped off the long section of pipe (both sections,) at the first bend.
You want to loosen the clamp that will hold it to the TB as much as you can.
Then slip it back so the rubber part can slip around the TB.
Put some soap on the lip of the TB (Just enough to coat it) and on the inside of the rubber bend.
Slip the rubber bend section on the lower part of the TB (just about 3/16") just enough to get it over the lip flang on the TB.
Nest apply pressure to the bend, in attempt to put it on the TB lip.
I used a small philips (the smaller the diameter the shaft the easer it will be) screw driver and stuck it into the rubber bend (like you are trying to pry it over the lip)
Slide the screw (im my case) back and forth over the top of the TB lip while still applying pressure (don't let the bottom of the rubber slip off the bottom of the lip of the TB) each time you move the screw driver you will notice that the rubber is slowly going over the flange.
Once you get the Hose on the TB slide the clamp back to the edge, and secure it.
Then secure the tube that you took off earler (it attaches fairly easly) and secure the clamp.
Then attach the balooned rubber fitting to the Air Box.
You might want to try doing the air box connect first to practice the proceedure (Same as the TB) I actually found doing the Air box connection harder then the TB) but both went on using the same technic.

When I first tried to fit it It looked too small. I was tempted to use the stock bend (from the TB and use stephens tube for the rest.

Since there really is no major change for the 2002 ,unless a tire presure monitor is important to you . You could save a few $$$ on a 01 . Your pick. let us know what you get ...otto
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
to get at it easer you could try to put just the bend on first by loosening the clamps and once installed connecting the rest of the tubes to the bend comming off the TB bend.

I think a simpler logo would be better for the mat--on the lines of the 300M badge emblem--the club logo is too busy looking and difficult to read on a carpet type mat---

New for 2002 the ABS system includes Electronic Brake Distribution. I am not sure what it is - but maybe someone can tell you. Hope this helps. Also in case you haven't read Otto's earlier posts - two new colors for 02, Light Almond Metallic and Onyx Green. Two colors discontinued - Champagne (my color) and Shale Green. Discountinued interior color - Deep Royal Blue.
  • stevenw300stevenw300 Member Posts: 90
I believe the "unique seats" are two-tone light taupe/dark slate. Sorry I omitted this from my earlier post. No other info in the dealer material on "unique". LOL We will have to wait and see or wait to hear from Otto.
  • beach15beach15 Member Posts: 1,305
The electronic brake distibution is a feature that automatically adusts brake force between the front and rear, depending on load. This feature is on such vehicles as the Honda Odyssey and a BMW or two, not to mention many others. I really don't think it makes the car any different two drive, maybe just a little better braking.
  • stevenw300stevenw300 Member Posts: 90
Thanks for the info. I agree - probably no difference in drive or handling.

    Hi All,

I am a new 300M owner. Just picked up my siver/black 300 last night. I had been looking at all the higher model family sedans and lower model luxury cars. I went out car shopping yesterday and my wife and I decided to check out the 300 we had always liked it but really hadn't considered it. We were leaning towards a maxima, passat or TL. However I wasn't 100% comfortable with those choices. Nobody in chicago was willing to deal on the TL ( I refuse to pay sticker or $500 off). The passat would have been a gls v6 w/ no power seats ( my '92 Lumina had power seats) and the max was getting a better engine in a couple months but I needed to buy now. Anyway we went to the dealership and drove the 300M we were sold. I think we got a good deal we paid $26,837 for a silver/black w/luxury package and smoker's option (we don't smoke all of them had them). While I think we could have beat the price by a few hundred bucks we got $7800 for our trade. The trade was a '99 Dodge Stratus std 4cyl w 53k. I asked the experts in the smart shopper forum and they said 7k for it was excellent edmunds even pegged it between 6.9k and 7.2k so I think we made up on the price in the trade. So far we love the car the only problem is that it was delivered with a 7 in. scratch on the drivers side passenger door. The dealership is going to fix this at their cost ( we have it in writing ). So far we absolutely love the car. Has anyone out there put in the CD Changer after purchase, either the four disc in dash or the six disc in the trunk. Also have any of you put custom wheels on it and if so which ones. Man we love that car.

First choice for the flood mats would be the club logo without the words.
Second choice : 300M and the Badge.

No offense intended but if they look like pictured above, I would not buy it. Too busy.

On the photopoint page there is a very nice clock trim piece.

    http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1280646&a=9486000&p=45098084&Sequence=0&res=high

Where can I get one like it ?

  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
Congrats on the new M, I have had mine for several months now, Inferno red with sandstone interior with all the bells and whistles, but without the smokers group. You state that you had the luxury group. Does that not come with the 4 disc CD? Also you mention changing the wheels. Why would you want too? These chrome wheels look great with the Michelin tires.
I might get 4 of the medallions for the hubs but I might save my money and maybe add the wood trim for the inside. Just my .02.
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
AJPIII's clock pic is one of the clearer ones, most likely due to the camera used (and the abilities of the picture taker, of course). I'm lucky if I can get a decent pic out of my mom's digital camera that I use.
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
Nothing special about the clock face, except for scotian's touch... I took the picture at night hoping for the best results.

As for the name, its just my initials... Antonio J. Pereira III

Floormats: I vote for something simple, probably just the 300M Shield if possible... I like the club, but just imagine the M with the static cling on the windshield, club logo floor mats, and a driver wearing the club shirt... too much club stuff...
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
nice buy man, congrats, its an awesome car. i'm lookin around for rims too right now, what size u lookin at? a few on here went up to 18's, mainly for the offset i believe (right fuzzy?). hermdogg's gots 20's are u don't get any hotter than that. 17's are too small for this car (imho), the wheel well has so much space. my dad's got 17's on his car, stock wheels, and you can't stick two fingers in the well. anyhow welcome to the club, i gotta ask, any mods planned?
  • avalanche165avalanche165 Member Posts: 558
lol, yea i need to get one of those shirts sometime tho. your right it is too busy, especially with the car in there. but i liked the dots making the circle, and then you gyus just wanna put "300m club" or something like that. sounds good, i'm gonna see what he can do and get some prices up here. hey rogor can we call www.300mclub.org a business? cuz he gives huge discount when u buy in bulk if your a business....
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I go along with the k.i.s.s. method of logos. The 300M logo like on the trunk is the best (not the one on the front side fenders). It is like yard sale signs, if you have too much stuff on the sign People will pass it up before they can read it all. Maybe one year we can have shirts made in the colors of our cars ??????
  • clpurnellclpurnell Member Posts: 1,083
Thanks all for the warm welcome. The luxury package includes wood steering wheel, VIC, auto adjusting exterior mirrors and tilt down mirrors. All the cars that had the 4-disc had sunroofs. WHich would have pushed the price a little over where we wanted to be. I have the standard wheels thats why I am looking at replacements the 01's chrome wheels aren't as good as the 99-00 ones. I might go with dubs (20's) but probaby 18's. I probably will go with a K&N air filter when mine needs to be replaced. Also looking to get some Xenon's (any idea's where to get some). Also will go with a four port exhaust in the future mabye beefier brake package too. I got a question how do you turn on the fog lights. Thanks again for the warm welcome.

This is part of a wood dash kit that also includes pieces to cover up the existing fake wood on the dash & doors. You can get it at Autodash.com. I think two people on this board have installed it and I think it looks great.

Go here to buy it: Autodash.com

I have a 2001 with the real wood - I wonder how well it matches ?

Turn on fog lights by pulling on the headlight switch--I believe they shut off if you turn off the lights manually or if you put on the high beams---

Cipurnell---you gots to read the manual so you can learn about all the little neat stuff on the M--lots of custom programming you can do for seat memory, radio memory and lost of other stuff. So read the manual----its very thorough and explains every little detail---enjoy your M---

PS how much of a rebate did you get and was that in the price you paid--I assume the price you paid was before trade and after rebates--
