Sorry to see you learning the hard way dude. Hopefully you'll get things fixed in a jiffy.
I know you've learned a lot from this experience.
Funny thing I was thinking...I can't help but wonder how someone can be so creative and talented with custom body work, as you are, could've fumbled the brakes as you have. Oh well, then again, I can do brakes, piece of cake, but body work, heck, that's where I make a big mess of things.
Those thoughts to me were very funny. When you get the courage to do another brake job someday, you'll laugh too. Cheers.
Glad u pulled this off!
Good job, Av--I knew you wouldnt give up easily. Just think how easy it will be next time.
--------sdmike, don't let my mishap guide your decision into taking it to dealer. i simply don't like other people under my hood. u should see this scratch, actually its like a scrape on the rear bumper, wasn't there when i dropped it off for speed sensor, got it back and wha-la, looks just like someone dropped the backside of a hammer on it.
Thanks in advance.

I saw the article a week or two ago. Seems to me the 300m was second last year (ahead of the Lincoln LS) and this year it is 9th or 10th (behind the Lincoln LS). I was kinda disappointed that the 300M would be ranked below the Lincoln LS, complete with it's Taurus 6-cylinder engine.
I don't know how they complete these rankings. The 300M was on the Car & Driver top ten list for 1999 and 2000 and dropped in 2001. I think the 2001 is a better car than the 99 or 00. I think some of these rankings are political...
they should fix that limit of 115 letter links--

Because I've waited this long, I have the choice of going with a 2001 or a 2002. Without regard to the fact that I could get a 2001 for less money, is there a reason not to go for the 2002? I'm not interested in the "2002.5" since the reported changes to ride height and the lower mouldings don't thrill me. A couple of the changes appear worthwhile but I don't want to wait that much longer.
I've always enjoyed excellent reliability with ChryCo vehicles (especially considering what I've put them through) but I don't have any experience with those built in the last ten years or so. Guess I'll find out if that experience continues with a 300M.
I travel down and up fifteen miles of mountain road (alt. 6100-1000 ft.) at least five days a week so I have concerns about the transmission (only because I wonder if there's any truth to there being significant problems with recent DC transmissions) but that's not stopping my purchase of the car. I figure I'll just get the extended warranty to cover any problems there. I seem to remember mention of combining engine and trans cooling in one unit, inferring that they were separate on previous models. Trans cooling is an important factor for my driving conditions so I'd probably have an auxiliary trans cooler installed (by dealer for warranty purposes) if that's possible. Anyone have any info pertaining to that particular aspect of the 'M?
Thanks for any info or advice.
I dont believe they are combining cooling for the tranny and engine. I believe what you are referring to is that they are combining the electronic computer chips for the tranny and engine into one chip probably for cost cutting.
The M and the other LH cars are proving to be very reliable. Read my previous post a few posts back about the long term test by car and driver magazine. They had no problems in 40K of driving. Most of the problems on this board have been relatively minor such as shrinking weatherstrip, slight tire pulling (mostly with the discontinue goodyear tires), and a few other very minor issues. Most people here are very happy with their M's.
For more information about the M, go to the 300M Enthusiast Club site and check out the links.
Here is the link. You should consider joining as the club has many benefits such as dealer service discounts, nice logo apparel and club meets.

You want to loosen the clamp that will hold it to the TB as much as you can.
Then slip it back so the rubber part can slip around the TB.
Put some soap on the lip of the TB (Just enough to coat it) and on the inside of the rubber bend.
Slip the rubber bend section on the lower part of the TB (just about 3/16") just enough to get it over the lip flang on the TB.
Nest apply pressure to the bend, in attempt to put it on the TB lip.
I used a small philips (the smaller the diameter the shaft the easer it will be) screw driver and stuck it into the rubber bend (like you are trying to pry it over the lip)
Slide the screw (im my case) back and forth over the top of the TB lip while still applying pressure (don't let the bottom of the rubber slip off the bottom of the lip of the TB) each time you move the screw driver you will notice that the rubber is slowly going over the flange.
Once you get the Hose on the TB slide the clamp back to the edge, and secure it.
Then secure the tube that you took off earler (it attaches fairly easly) and secure the clamp.
Then attach the balooned rubber fitting to the Air Box.
You might want to try doing the air box connect first to practice the proceedure (Same as the TB) I actually found doing the Air box connection harder then the TB) but both went on using the same technic.
When I first tried to fit it It looked too small. I was tempted to use the stock bend (from the TB and use stephens tube for the rest.
I am a new 300M owner. Just picked up my siver/black 300 last night. I had been looking at all the higher model family sedans and lower model luxury cars. I went out car shopping yesterday and my wife and I decided to check out the 300 we had always liked it but really hadn't considered it. We were leaning towards a maxima, passat or TL. However I wasn't 100% comfortable with those choices. Nobody in chicago was willing to deal on the TL ( I refuse to pay sticker or $500 off). The passat would have been a gls v6 w/ no power seats ( my '92 Lumina had power seats) and the max was getting a better engine in a couple months but I needed to buy now. Anyway we went to the dealership and drove the 300M we were sold. I think we got a good deal we paid $26,837 for a silver/black w/luxury package and smoker's option (we don't smoke all of them had them). While I think we could have beat the price by a few hundred bucks we got $7800 for our trade. The trade was a '99 Dodge Stratus std 4cyl w 53k. I asked the experts in the smart shopper forum and they said 7k for it was excellent edmunds even pegged it between 6.9k and 7.2k so I think we made up on the price in the trade. So far we love the car the only problem is that it was delivered with a 7 in. scratch on the drivers side passenger door. The dealership is going to fix this at their cost ( we have it in writing ). So far we absolutely love the car. Has anyone out there put in the CD Changer after purchase, either the four disc in dash or the six disc in the trunk. Also have any of you put custom wheels on it and if so which ones. Man we love that car.
Second choice : 300M and the Badge.
No offense intended but if they look like pictured above, I would not buy it. Too busy.

Where can I get one like it ?
I might get 4 of the medallions for the hubs but I might save my money and maybe add the wood trim for the inside. Just my .02.
As for the name, its just my initials... Antonio J. Pereira III
Floormats: I vote for something simple, probably just the 300M Shield if possible... I like the club, but just imagine the M with the static cling on the windshield, club logo floor mats, and a driver wearing the club shirt... too much club stuff...

I have a 2001 with the real wood - I wonder how well it matches ?
Cipurnell---you gots to read the manual so you can learn about all the little neat stuff on the M--lots of custom programming you can do for seat memory, radio memory and lost of other stuff. So read the manual----its very thorough and explains every little detail---enjoy your M---
PS how much of a rebate did you get and was that in the price you paid--I assume the price you paid was before trade and after rebates--
