I am ready to get used tires any time. They need to last until Thanksgiving. They should still be in a decent shape by then.

    Thanks.

Hello, it has been a long time since I have post on this board. I don't get the chance to reed it very often either. have a gold 99 m bought new in december of 1998.
I am having a problem it seems like I might have read something about somewhere before? Maybe it was on here? I am going to have to make an appt with my 5 star and I like to know a little and not just go in blind. I had read about the speed sensor on hear and told my wife what to expect if it ever happened. Sure enough about a month ago she was on her way home from work and called me.
She said it seemed the car would not shift out of 2nd gear. It was 3:15 on a Friday and we were leaving for vacation the next morning. I told her to head for our 5 star dealer. I called them and told them what the car was doing and that I thought it was the speed sensor and would appreciate if they could fix right away as we were going on vacation. Well it was the speed sensor and they had the car ready in a little over an hour. I think knowing it might have been the speed sensor may have helped. Now for my latest problem.
My m has 58,000 miles on her and i have started noticing a rattling from the front end. Mostly when i go over bumps. Kind of sounds like something is lose. It still handles and feels as tight as new. Have had the Michilens for about 20,000 miles. Seems like someone said something about Struts or Strut caps? Any ideas?
    Thanks sel714

I asked this question here before but got no response. I am going to 2* next week and need to know the following: when you have climate control set to auto mode, does the little snowflake show up on the display--mine stays on most of the time even if temp is set high enough to enter heating mode---does yours come on at all in auto mode---I dont believe mine used to do this, but the climate control seems inaccurate since the 2* mechanics changed the control head.

Jedi: nice wheels--looks real easy to check your brake pads and should help keep the discs cool.-

    Sel...

I have a 99 and think I have the same rattle your talking about... I was wondering what it was... going to make an appointment with the 5 star soon... anyone know if it is indeed the struts ? Ive wanted to replace them with the PHP ones anyway...
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
as far as i recall my snowflake has always been on, but i've only had this car during the summer heat.. i have some errands to run tomorrow, and i'll check it for you, i wont forget either, don't worry. ill be sure to post back with my info tomorrow. i'll set it on auto and turn the t emp all the way up for a few minutes and see what it says.

I will be posting a lot more again when I get my car back. I have been without it for almost 4 weeks now (total of 9 weeks on and off) and I am a bit sad about it so I stay away from you guys and the fact that you can drive your cars and I CAN'T !!!!!!!!!! =*(

yes if you are getting a rattle/crunching/creaking/squeaking sound while going over bumps or rough pavement at slow speeds you should have your strut caps/plates replaced. several of us here have had this done.

Sorry, no pics at this time.

I am in need of a computor upgrade. I guess too many vacations for me has used up those resources and I am in the planning stages of going to Cancun next.

Man, you're Mr. Vacation! Good for you.

What kind of computer are you using (speed, memory, etc.)? Is there anything in it worth saving (e.g. video card? modem? hard drive? CDROM? Floppy?)? Depending on your budget I might be able to put something together for you real inexpensively when I get back from vacation.

    for my problem.

I was getting a rattle/crunching/creaking/squeaking sound from my front end when going over rough road, etc., but this repair did nothing. They later found that the steering column section that goes through the firewall at an angle was squeaking. The part was on back order over a month (they left a message Friday, so I assume it's in).

Currently while turning my steering wheel past center it feels as though all of the resistance goes away for a few degrees. Very disconcerting. Also, it's making even stranger noises. I hope this repair fixes all of that.

For a while I was hearing very loud obnoxious noises coming from my M's rear suspension. It went away, and has never really come back.

My advice: The instant you hear a reproducable suspension noise, take it in immediately and have their suspension tech drive it with you. Then make an appointment. These noises have a pesky habit of disappearing (well, actually they just hide for a while).

What does speed proportional/sensitive steering do? I think our Ms have it.

As a present to myself today I took big reddish brown to the touchless car wash and got the airport grime off her. I don't know if you guys have a wash like this where you are, but it's pretty effective. Your car sits in one place and this contraption moves back and forth over the car (and on the sides) cleaning and rinsing it from top to bottom, including a heated pre-soak, high pressure wheel cleaning, and other stuff. Not bad for $5. Anyway, I got big red all sparkly clean and did a bunch of errands in preparation for tomorrows vacation. When I get home I get the surprise of the year....my wife had dyed her hair this sexy dark red color. My present! lol!

My buddy got me a tiny little GPS that is just cool as all get-out. It's bright yellow and smaller than my cell phone. It will allow me to mark positions and then tell me how to get back (like how to get back to my car after I get lost mountain biking), and do other stuff. Now...if they only made a red one. heheh.

Ok, so that wasn't 300M related at all. But so what. Have a great week. Oh, I pick up the club hats tomorrow. There....officially a 300m post now. ;)

It means the power assist is greater at low speeds than at higher speeds. Remember turning the wheels of cars without power steering at low speeds? What a wrestling match. :)

Air traveling through steel? Is this like transparent aluminum from Star Trek Meets the Whales? I've never heard of this...
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I really like your car, although I like the 300M badge on the trunk. Put a three pillar spoiler on it and it will be the darker sister of Big Red. :)
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
If this were going haywire (I love that term), it might feel like my M's steering feels lately...
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
are obnoxious! I would love too see them in action in real life, though...
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I don't understand what those drawings are trying to depict. They both basically say that stuff clogs filters and blocks air. I'll stick with the nice proven K&N and the minimally smaller air flow. Heck, maybe I can just sell a three inch hose and a drill to poke a hole in the side of your car for unrestricted cold air intake!
  • russklassrussklass Member Posts: 389
In "auto" mode, the a/c compressor is on at all ambient temperatures above 32deg.F. This is to dehumidify the air and prevent window fogging.
If desired, you can turn off the a/c by going to "manual" mode.

Those are popular in NYC, & LA. They are little lights that flash when the tire turns. They are basic valve stem caps, just with lights on them. They are not 300M specific, they fit all valve stems, just people tend to want to sell them, so they tell you what specific car they are for even though it doesn't matter.

Also I do not have that "wet dog" smell in my M. It still smells new. The leak was only a very little one, & was cleaned up each time I felt the carpet was wet.

I told ya'll last week that after I drove them a liitle more I'd give you a report on the new Goodrich Gforce TA KDW tires I bought recently. I have had several good opportunities to try them on fast curves and have been VERY impressed with the cornering power they generate, as well as with the way they feel when cornering. Very good feedback thru the steering.
Then, this morning, we finally got some rain in the Dallas area, so I had a chance to see how they handle on wet roads. Phenomenal!!! Bags of cornering grip and no aquaplaning like I got with my previous Goodyear LS's.
And the best surprise of all with these tires is that they are much, much quieter than the Badyears, too. I never realized how noisy it was in my 300M until I replaced the tires and it got quiet. I don't have any way to compare these tires with the Michelin XGT's or the Bridgstone Pole Positions some of ya'll have switched to, but, so far at least, I'm quite satisfied with them.....and I only paid about $650 for the set in 245/45ZR-17 size.
PS: I don't have a digital camera, so I haven't been able to post a pic of my M with the new wheels and tires. I'll have to wait until I use up a roll of film and get some pics scanned.

The 'snowflake', of course, means the AC is on.

With the '99s, it was my experience that the snowflake was on for all outside temperatures over 45'F. If anything to maybe keep the humidity low so condensation didn't form inside the car (if the window's temperature is lower than the dewpoint of the inside of the car, condensation will form. lowering the inside humidity will reduce this.)

With the '01, the control system seems a little bit smarter, with the snowflake appearing only when outside temperature/humidity is quite high. Recently it has come on at temperatures around 65-70F.

My computor is a Pentium one 133mhz, 32 ram, 1 gig hard drive, quad cd-rom.

I believe my mom just got her new Dell in while I was in Disneyland. If so, I will use hers to get you guys pics of me and my M. She first needs to get broadband service for I order her computor with a broadband modem.

    Thanks Mike!

BTW, Cancun is a 50/50 chance. My sister-in-law and my wifes cousin(who lives in Mexico) want to go. My kids are about to start school, so that is a sticking point.

Someone posted on this subject recently. Here is a product I can personally vouch for, having just installed one on my M. http://www.wooddash.com/item/CHRYSLER_Wind_Deflectors_300M_99_2001

I "won" one on an EBay auction for a pretty good price, compared to the asking price.

The visor is very substantial, not flimsy like some of these things that stick on with adhesive. The mounting consists of 2 simple clips, but the visor is very sturdy once installed and cinched down. It has a heavy duty rubber gasket that prevents scratching and finishes off the installation very nicely. It really fits the shape of the sunroof too.

I think it's a resonable value, even at the retail asking price.

I'm posting this in the Aftermarket Accessories/Modifications too.

Hello from the doctor! I think I read in a previous post that you/your Mom got the dell 8100 series PC: Sha-weeeet! Thats what I got, and boy am I loving it: 80 GB hard drive, 17 inch monitor, cd/dvd, cd-rw, 1024 voice SoundBlaster card, 56K (okay, so its not broadband....but its MINE!..) and the other standard stuff that it comes with. Also comes with MusicMatch JukeBox. You CAN jack into the web for internet radio stations, but when you set this up, it INSISTS on connecting to the web, even if all you want to do is play a cd! Try as I might to stop it, I've found no place to tell it NOT to.
Given the fact that it took Dell three trys to get my pc configured correctly, it was worth the wait. for my troubles, the sent me: 1. an inexpensive digital camera (read here as NO preview screen), an HP scanner, upgraded my speakers to the THX-Dolby -certified ones AND threw in an additional 256 KB of RD-RAM, AND a UPS power system (7-17 minutes after a power failure to shut down properly).
Additioanlly, I just LOVE the dark agate (black?..) appearance of the system. Good luck with your Mom's PC....is it your turn next?

sdmike2 and 300mlover - Happy Birthday from the staff and management of the Chrysler 300M Enthusiasts Club.

If you had put your birthdays on your membership application, you would have received Birthday cards from the 300M Enthusiasts Club. I just checked the records and the birthday space was left blank for both of you. Just a little extra service we provide. We mail out quite a few each month.

Hit the 5* this am for a service before the trip to Michigan for the Woodward Dream Cruise meeting of 300Mers. Had them check the rotors for warping just to be sure its the Badyears on the low speed wobble. Rotors found to be fine. Looks like I'll be dumping these badboys at 32K when I get back from Detroit. And with the spouse's blessing!! Sometimes you just luck out. I think I will be going to 245/45-17's on the stock 17 x 7 Razorstars if the tire guys agree with Av that that will work. I may try the Goodrich "Scorpions" I think is the name. You can get up to 3 color lines in the tread. They are cheaper than the Pilots or Potenzas. Dealer had no 2002 Ms in yet,
his last two 01s are gone now and they had no idea when they would get any. On the Special they just shrugged and said we never know when or if it will be built or show up. What a system.
