    Oh YESSSS!!!!!!!!
My tire dealer just called. my Pilot XGT Z4's are in. I'll get them put on Wed. !
Then straight to the alignment shop to have my bro hook it up RIGHT!
tuscongil, thanks for the feedback, I can't wait!!
jedi_knight, man I love those rims!
I've always been a fan of the 5 spoke design since the days me and my buddys had Cragar S/S and Keystone Raiders on our Mustangs back in the 70's. That's probably why I'm a big fan of the CHROME Razorstar wheels on our 300M's.
Who'm I kidding, probably nuthin. After test driving the car and seeing the streetlights reflect of those rims. I was sold, I had to have that Deep Slate Pearlcoat car with THOSE rims.

So does anyone know who the original manufacturer of the RazorStar rims are? are they available in a 18" size or 8" or better width? Where can i get them?

Those KMC Tramps are really SWEET. I love that 5 spoke look!

    Happy Birthday Guys.
Hope you got lots of cool stuff (specially for your M's :-)
Having a great family and friends is the best part bout birthdays.
having cool stuff like your 300M to give you solace as you age is pretty cool too!
    :-0 LOL!!!
I know, as one who got his office completely redecorated in black balloons, streamers and silly string last year on the big 40.
My advice is get in your 300M, crank the tunes way up (try some red hot chili peppers or black crowes) and wave and laugh mainiacly as you pass them on the way home.
They'll think it's some mid life crisis. just smile and enjoy not having to act your age!
    ;-)

    HBD!

saw the stainless steel air filter advertised on Ebay.
Geez, are they going back to the 40's for auto technology???
I remember as a kid my uncles old early 50's chevy pickup having an steel wire mesh, oil bath air filter.
The oil splashed and sprayed up from the tray of the air filter housing onto the mesh to trap dirt particles from the airflow thru the wire mesh filter. When I saw that thing on ebay thats what it reminded me of.
Maybe it works fine. I dunno. I'll stick to my K&N, Thanks.

Is there a consensus as to where to mount the Basslink? Line level inputs vs pre-amp? Phase? Etc.

after rubbing the air deflector against numerous parking bumpers and after tearing off my front bumper cover in one incident due to a parking bumper, today I found the deflector hanging on by just one rivet---got out my trusty folding knife and cut off the rest---now have a nice modded clean look on the lower front of the M--not only is it cleaner, now I dont have to worry about catching any more parking bumpers---and as a bonus I get faster 0-60mph times due to less weight-----and I didnt notice any increase of temperature on the temp guage so I dont think the deflector has much importance ---comments anyone?

Thanks for the birthday wishes guys. I appreciate it. It makes 40 a little less painful (as does 4 advil). ;) See you guys in a week. Time for vacation. RV trip to Mammoth Lakes. Wish Big Red was going with us.

Is that the area where Mammoth Ski Resort is located? I spent a week there, and at June Mountain back in the '80s. Lots of volcanism-very active! Anyway have a good vacation.

yes, that's where mammoth mountain is. Just about 20 miles SE of Yosemite. I plan to spend one day of the trip mountain biking. Should be a blast.

Has anyone verified the mpg values calculated by their computer against those calculated the old-fashioned way? There seem to be widely differing mpgs reported here, and I don't know if it all can be attributed to the amount of corn the local sham-environmentalists put in the gas, etc.

I just found this site and I'm a little bummed out. I see all the messages about the tires here and now I wish I could go buy different ones. You see.. on Saturday I just replaced my old GoodYear Eagles LS's with.. you guessed it.. Eagles LS's! Now I wonder what I might be missing!!! Oh well.. I guess I'll just have to wait another 60,000 miles till I wear these out!

I have 2000 300M with all the options I think except the sport package that was available (different steering and front suspension I think if I remember correctly). But other then that I have it all I think and I've loved the car. Two years and 60,000 and no major complaints. The right rear passenger side window sticks every once in a while but that's it.

I was wondering though. Has anyone had problems with the front windshield cracking? Mine seemed to come out of no where and runs across the bottom of the windshield. I have inspection due this month and I have to get it fixed now as it's almost across the whole window. I'm hoping someone will tell me that this a 'problem' and maybe if I pressure the 5* guy a little they'll replace it even though I blew through my 3 yr or 30,000 mile warranty in my first year.

    Thanks!!!
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
i dont think that was a recall. but.. some 5*'s might be kind enough to replace it, if your persisitant enough....

boy Dell sure gave you a lot of freebies--I think any one of them would have made you happy--they must have some stale inventory lying around that they cant sell so they just give it away---they gave you over $300 worth of stuff---guess they really want to keep their customers happy--they know you'll spread the word--I guess they're getting their money's worth! (or maybe they know you work for the Feds ;-)

Madchemist asked about buying tires through the internet. I bought a tire from Tire Rack recently. I ordered on Friday and Monday UPS delivered the tire. Tire Rack also has a list of recommended installers in each zip code area.
  • madchemist1madchemist1 Member Posts: 10
I've been to the website and there is a installer in the next town over. Tell me, did you feel the price and service were good? I need to replace a stock Michelin tire that recently went flat and can't be fixed.
    Thanks

I have used both companies with very satisfactory results.
I usually shop online, then phone in the order.
Both companies have very knowledgeable sales people, and they have test driven most of their products. Their input doesn't cost extra, and just might keep you from making a mistake in tire selection.

Doc, I remember you telling me a few weeks back via IM that you had just received your new Dell Dimension 8100 computor. I am glad that Dell gave you all those freebies after messing up your order a few times. Glad to hear that you are enjoying it!

I found out today that my mothers Dell 8100 arrived Thursday while I was in Disneyland. She needs to remove some old files from her old Packerd Bell PC before I go over to set it up for her. It should be fun once I do!

Yes I am next to upgrade and I need to in the worst way! I will see by the end of the month if Dell offers the same deal(free shipping and $150 off or free CD-R). I can buy one now, but I hate to owe money! Three Platinum credit cards with a total line of credit of $36K and all I owe each month is $50(aol service and other small charges). The cards make little interest off of me in a year(provided if I roll over a balence into the next month)! They must hate me!

I love Giovanna wheels! It was down to Giovanna G-Racing "Kobe" wheels and the Zenitti Zen Racing "Race" wheels I now have.

Once I ordered my wheels they arrived with the same ten lug hole for two different lug sizes like you have on your wheels. I know this is the universal tuner wheel style used these days, but I wanted single lug pattern as I seen on the Zenitti website. I had the wheels sent back and returned with the single pattern.

    Yours look good!

    Welcome to the jungle :-)

Sorry that your discovery of this "300Mhood" thing we've got going on here was otherwise ill timed (re: your tire purchase):-(.

I have a 99 300M (non PHP like yours) with 65K miles now. I'm replacing my stock Goodyear Eagle LS tires with Michelin pilots XGT Z4's Wed. morning

If you really want to know what you're missing go to your 5* and test drive a 01 or 02 300M. They all come with Michelins treads since mid 00 (the MXV4 Plus on non PHP cars ). Especially look for one that says "Performance Handling Group" on the sticker. These are the PHP/PHG cars many that frequent here have and the difference in handling on a PHP car with their Michelin Pilot MXM4 tires is day vs. night better than the Goodyear Eagle LS tires on the non PHP 99-00 cars.

Also check out the 300M Enthusiast Club web site at www.300mclub.org if you haven't already.
Lots of good info (e.g. windows motors).

    Man,THOSE LOOK GREAT!!!!

I see your making up the time and catching up and passing all the mods you'd already done to the white car.
Sorry you have to leave to go shoot cannons for a couple weeks. (See if you can get the range officers to put a Lincoln LS downrange. That should cheer things up! LOL )
At least you sould have the grille done when you get back! :-)
The new rims look AWESOME as hell.
(P.S.What'd you do with the stock ones??)
Hope to see ya soon bro.

I was checking out at Costco today and saw a display of American Racing rims. Some nice stuff. I still like my chrome razorstars better though. However, I did see that they carried Michelin Pilot tires in our stock size. I don't remember exactly what tire they had on the sign (don't think it was the Z, but don't remember if it was the V) but the price was under $150. Anyone with a Costco nearby should check it out.

Phases.....what brand of wheels are those? The design looks very similar to my new Konig Tantrums, except for the chrome. I like the design a lot, but personally don't like chrome wheels (that's the main reason I replaced my Razorstars. Konig offered theirs in chrome as well as silver painted.

Roger2K.......does the sunroof deflector help much with the turbulence from the sunroof. I've been looking for a good one, but I don't know how much it will really help.

    Thanks,

    Lynn

It does seem to help quite a bit, especially with the buffeting noise. I'd definitely recommend this one over the one-size-fits-all types that stick with double-face tape.
  • drpixeldrpixel Member Posts: 256
Scotian: howyadoing, buddy! I too have questioned the accuracy of the 'Command Center'. My S.O., who has a built-in onboard Cray supercomputer for a brain ALWAYS calculates the mileage 'the old-fashioned way'. Generally, using T.O.F.W seems to be a bit more accurate. To my recollection, even the distance to empty never seems to be acurate either, though my gas tank has never gotten to that level. My mileage--over the past few months--has been getting BETTER--not a lot better, but I'll take what I can get. The 1* dealer I bought eMily at had made some sort of adjustment in the engine--don't ask me--I don't have a clue what he did! I have to take eMily back for the 'groaning noise' coming from the front end--strut mount problem?..and a couple o other things..the steering wheel leather cover has developed some sort of marks on the inside of the wheel..very weird looking.
Tucsongil: Granted, Dell sent me the 'free' stuff, but I paid for that in the time I lost by not having a computer, not to mention the $$$ and the website clients I lost.
I paid about $2,200 for P3 (phoenix 3), but after deducting whatthey sent me (camera, scanner, memory, speaker upgrade, ups..) actual cost came down to around $1500. Not too bad for a 1.3GHz, 384 MB RAM, 80 GB hard disk, etc, hmmm?

    Regards to all,
    Doc

I just noticed that the "leather" at the very top of my steering wheel is turning to mush -- someone else here reported this problem.
  • denvermdenverm Member Posts: 358
Mine is still fine. I'm just wondering if there might be any common cause(s), so here's a poll for the folks who have experienced this problem:
    1. Have you treated/conditioned your steering wheel with anything? If so, what?
    2. Is your car parked out in the sun a lot?
    3. Do you live in a humid area?

Well now they (Chrysler Customer Service) have decided that they want the dealer to take another look at the car to see if the inner tierod ends are loose. At first they wanted to do the rack, now tierods. Either they are playing really dumb or they actually have no clue what is causing this problem. So it goes in again Thursday morning. Is anyone else here still having this problem? Or have you all eliminated it? Or just decided to live with it.
  • 300mlover300mlover Member Posts: 132
The mechanic(monkey) told Chrysler Customer Service I drive my car ruff. He came to this opinion after I took him for a ride and used AutoStick and shifted at 5000 RPM and told him it really shakes when I come off the highway and slow down from 80 MPH. He claims the car is not built to be driven so "ruff". "We shouldn't be driving around in AutoStick all the time" he says. Can you believe this crock? You guys(gals) aren't this "ruff" are you??? LOL
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
there Giovanna... so are the dubs im lookin at. there pretty sweet..
  • phases78phases78 Member Posts: 471
im very 'ruff'on my car, and she likes it!
  • drpixeldrpixel Member Posts: 256
I wouldn't say mine was turning to mush..lets say its more like someone grabbed the steering wheel REALLY, REALLY hard and there are 'indentations' of a sort. Now, I'm 6' 6" tall and about 250 pounds, but even if I grabbed the wheel HARD, I couldn't have left these 'marks'.
I live in NJ, the weather does get humid, esp. lately. EMily sits in the driveway with a sunshield in the windshield to keep the sun out, so the sun's not the cause. Have not treated the steering wheel with anything, either. I was wondering IF they had to replace part of the fine Corinthian leather that caresses my M's wheel, could they--just replace that portion?

just curious if anyone has tried doing something with the window mechanisms on their 300s. has anyone tried setting theirs up so all the windows have the auto-up/down feature a lot of other new cars have? i really like doing the one touch thing, but not sure whats involved on the 300m. thanks
  • dick4295dick4295 Member Posts: 14
to Madchemist1- The lowest price I found at a walk in store was $160 each for the Goodyear tire I was trying to replace because of a cut and this was at NTB (National Tire and Battery)which normally has realistic prices. I paid $93 from Tire Rack plus about $20 for shipping, putting on the wheel and the balance.

  • topdavis1topdavis1 Member Posts: 1
I had the same problem after about 6000 miles with my 300M. Have you had your tires rotated? If so, there is a possibility the guy actually knocked one of your rotors out of round. You probably notice the problem when braking from high speeds and there might be a slight tug in one direction when beginning the braking. I had to have my rotors turned to correct the problem. Then ask you dealer to test how tight the lugs are on the rim with a torque wrench. If the torque is not equal the the tire and rim can actually cause the rotor to go out of round over a period of time. Also, have them check the tires. If you have the Goodyear tires, then you may have problems. Mine have been problematic since I have owned the car. I am going to replace them, but I don't know with which ones yet.
  • madchemist1madchemist1 Member Posts: 10
just like Doc, I too live in NJ and it has been in the mid to upper 90's for the last couple of weeks. I keep a sunshield on my window too, but my steering wheel literally has impressions of my palm at the 9 o'clock position and finger/palmprints at the 12 o'clock position. Going to go to my 5* dealer this weekend for an oil change...I'm going to bring up the steering wheel at that time. Sorry...there's just no excuse for "leather" to melt and no, I have not treated it with anything.
  • fcmfcm Member Posts: 24
I recently got a new wheel, just before the warranty expired. The old one turned black (grime?) and the leather started deteriorating. No mush, no dents, just started peeling almost. The car seldom sits in the sun, we have a parking deck at work. Central Illinois is humid more often than not. I have the light taupe interior so the wheel is that camel color. How are the black wheels holding up?
  • toms99toms99 Member Posts: 252
I had the dirt-grime problem. The wheel never peeled or deteriorated, but I could never keep it clean. Maybe the leather-like stuff reacts with sweaty palms?? Who knows? Since there was no real structural damage I never pursued it under warranty. What I did do was get a wheelskins real leather cover. These covers are great. They are thin enough that you can still feel all the finger grips bumps right through the leather and the real leather feels and looks great. Don't confuse these with Wally-Mart covers.

For those of you who are out of warranty, or still under but would like to protect your existing wheel, this is definitely worth trying.

I don't know if this is dealer BS but I remember asking why our cars didn't have this feature and the dealer said it was a "safety" issue, i.e. DC didn't want little kids playing with the windows and chopping their heads off....LOL!

i know there are some here who also own sebrings, so give me the up and up on this car. i'm sure the 300m is worth the extra 8k. but is the sebring sedan worth 21k. i'm helping my sis decide she loves my car but doesn't want my payments :) thanks the sebring board is dead.
