My dome/courtesy lights flicked on and cycled off once. Really strange. Nothing else seemed amiss. I have an aftermarket alarm that can turn on the dome lights.

My memory must be going. I thought I remembered someone posting a site or listing of the flow rates for different mufflers. I went back to Sept 5th and did not find it. Does anybody remember the site? It contained both the Dynomax and Rhino I believe.

scotian-yes all high output motors have this tuning valve. This valve is not on the air intake hose but on the black air plenum, that sits atop of the engine.. So you can go and change your air intake hose and not worry.

drive_a_300m -bet this guy a million bucks and we can split it. No LH car has ever left our plant with anything other that a 2.7, 3.2, 3.3 or 3.5. . A 4.9 V8 was NEVER put in a LH car. Cause if it was offered I would be the second person to have one after that guy.

sdmike2- you are correct about the engine, but don't fool yourself , You could put a V8 under the hood of the M if you really wanted to . There is more room than you think. If someone can stuff a Viper V10 in a Jeep Wrangler ( I have seen this ) then a small 8 could fit.

aj_tomasi- cool a 02 TA, did you get that special edition yellow bird? if you have not seen it check it out

I posted some info on this last week but apparently it was lost in cyber space.

My 00M was giving a tremendous light show while parked or driving. The 5* replaced the BCM and so far no more light shows.
  • drpixeldrpixel Member Posts: 256
welcome to the 'club'! I had the same thing happen to eMily, all lights, power door locks blinking on and off, locks going up and down...quite a display, yes? I eventually got it to stop by re-starting the car and then shutting down. It was suggested that I had hit the PANIC button on the remote, but hadn't.
The 1 1/2 star dealer told me they were 'unable to duplicate the problem'. My wife told them she wasn't surprised--they'd have to wait until dark to see the light show. This seems to happen when the light switch is in "A" (auto) mode. They have finally gotten the BCM part in--now waiting to get to the dealer.
While eMily was there for this examination, the dealer-at no cost to me-left a nice scratch down the passenger side from about mid front passenger door right back to the plastic (excuse me..polycarbonate..) trim piece just ahead of the rear wheel. This scratch/gouge is below the body molding strip and is about 6-8 inches above the door sill. They finally agreed that I did NOT have to use their body shop (whom they have a contract with...) and can use the one I want to use. My place was able to match the color of my daughter's last car-a 92 Ols Achieva that had that bluish/greenish color that popular then..you could'nt tell at all it had been painted. Plus, the guy's going to put my 'splash guards' on for me--total cost: $600.

    Have a good day!

Testing the waters my friend. For now, my goal is to get out of the M. Then I'll sit down & decide what to do, or what to get(if anything). I have the Explorer I got in June(60K miles now), & I have the 96 Impala in storage(about 8K miles) I drive the truck more now, to save the milage on the M. If I feel the need for speed I can take the Impala out.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
that was the engine on the Jeep Cherokee Limited 4.9, wasn't it? Or was it 5.9?

Could there be any chance that the dealer sent the car to some shop that stuffed a V8 into it?

How about that 400M mentioned on the www.prowlerpro.com? Maybe that's the car?
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
That was 5.9 Limited. Drove one of those. What fun :)

You've got to be kidding!!!!!!!!!! When is this B.S. going to stop!!!! In the Calgary paper this morning it states tht all Armed Forces personell have been told not to wear uniforms in public. I think that they are afraid to let the public here know that we don't have any.

Also in the paper to-day DC has an ad for 0% for 48 months on all new 01 DC products. Amazing!!!!
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
That article was very disturbing. I don't understand how something like that could happen.

Oh, and I want to see someone stuff a V8 under that hood. I can hardly get my hand in there. ;)
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
I was only kidding when I made the comment about your house in the reflection of your car. I was only pointing out how good your M looks. I can't help but think that Inferno Red is so sweeet! on this car. Any comments on the fit of your nose bra?

By the way, our Cdn government is denying that these people were let go without checks. The newshounds are on the war path so it should be interesting how they weasel out of this one.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I knew you were kidding on house comment. No problemo :) That nose bra isn't really too bad except that it hasn't held up well at all. The wrinkles don't bother me. What bothers me is that the material has thinned and separated, especially along the leading 1-2 inches, so you can actually see the backing fabric. It looks like small white dots along the entire leading edge. My guess is that the dealer will find a million reasons not to replace it.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
There's alot of room under the hood. You just need to remove the air box, with the resinators, & relocate the battery :)

  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
Mine is still perfect. Fits really tight, no wrinkels or anything. After 1 1/2 years too.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I guess if someone can put a V8 in a Vega (like my buddy did) you can put one in a full size like the M. :)
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Now if otto can "find" a Viper V-10 laying around in the factory we could see if we could fit it in an M. I'll offer Big Red as the test mule. heh
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
There's a famous place that doeas work on Prowlers, & Vipers forgot the name, but one of there projects is putting a Viper V10 into a Dodge Darango. On some rice burner site I was scanning through, some guy put a 5.0 engine with a supercharger in a Honda Civic, & it was still FWD. That's just nuts! The 300M 3.5 is a really good motor. It's just the drivetrain behind it that needs work. If DC worked on that instead of putting ground effects on a 300M or upgrading leather, that would be better. I think the higher ups just don't care because they are going to a new RWD platform in 2 years. Also why we will not see any major improvments in the current 300M.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I think it's about positioning. The M is positioned as a luxury car with some stones (which it is), not a sports sedan (where it has limitations). The focus of the Maxima was a sports sedan and it performs like one. Granted, there are luxury cars with more balls than the M and maybe it can be improved (e.g. the gearing), but overall I think DC placed the car pretty well. Problem is that it looks sporty, handles sporty, and has enough power for us to want more. Based on what I saw they'll solve the performance issue in the N. The special just makes the issues worse. Looks even faster, but with the same performance.
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
fuzzywuzzy - you got that right, they will not spend $$ on a car that is done in in 2003.

mikeyjohn- how do we get a guy like Mr Bush to be our leader ? our Prime Minister is a joke

sdmike2- if there was a V10 at the plant it would not be around very long. Lots of room , like fuzzy said ,remove all that crap up top and see what you have.
  • splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
sdmike2 I agree completely. The car is definitely going towards the near-lux/lux market and it qualifies in that department. It's got great styling and a lot of features - I have to say the seat setting tied to the fob is great...

However, as for power, it's just making me ask for a little more. But in reality, I don't want more (I'd just kill myself ;) I go fast enough as it is. And mine isn't even a php package...
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I disagree on that. That might be where DC hoped to place the 300M, but the industry thinks otherwise. Ever see a 300M in a luxury, or near luxury test? Unless I missed it, I haven't. Chrysler is just not know for luxury. I have seen a test with large sedans, & sport sedans. In those lux, or near lux test are always imports from the big 4 MB, BMW, Acura, or Audi. Granted most of those mags are biased, but I still think of the 300M as a sports sedan.

Guess I got something started.. Well, I want to thank all of you who provided me with information, and the link to the options on the Canada site. And as far as fitting the Viper engine into a 300M - remember - it was my post that got it started - my 2001 is first in line for the V10 :-) :-) :-) Again - Thanks to al of you!! --

It's amazing how many miles you can put on your car when you are able to drive it! Christine just didn't give you a chance...LOL!
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I think the M is pretty unique in its blend of sports/luxury/price. In fact, that's probably why we all bought one. Does Chrysler have a more luxurious car? Guys like Buick have the Park Avenue and those monstrosities, but really the M is the top of the luxury list at Chrysler. It also happens to lean towards the "performance" category. I think that's what makes it doesn't make a lot of the comparison lists...nobody knows where to put it. You don't see it matched up against the Maximas that aren't luxury cars. You don't see it compared to flagship luxury cars because of it's sportiness and price. It's kind of in a no-man's land, except for maybe the Lincoln LS or the Bonneville.

Edmunds compares it to the TL, ES300, LS, Millenia, Diamante, Aurora and Bonneville. The TL and ES300's are mid-range sedans in their mfg's offerings. The Millenia, Diamante and Aurora are "luxury" flagships of their brands. The LS and Bonneville are their brand's performance/luxury sedans, which are probably closest to the M's category. I think the M does quite well against these cars from a performance standpoint.

I have a very recent problem with my power seat (driver side). When you turn off the ignition, the seat is supposed to move back, allowing you exit easily. However, recently mine does not move after turning off the ignition.

I have fooled around with the memory settings over the last week, but that's the only thing I can think of that would affect it. I guess I need to review my manual.

Has anyone else had this problem? I don't want to make a trip to the ?* unless I have to...

Let me know if you get any inquiries from a Bob Newton in No. Indiana. I've been eyeballing this burgundy M parked at the Hoosier Racing Tire Corp. Office for a few months and finally stopped to insert a wiper card. Went inside and found out it belongs to the owner of Hoosier. He has Hoosier tires on the M (Duh).Gonna check out some for my M.Don't know about the white letters though. I like plain black, shined up. Anybody interested go to hoosiertire.comRick/Geezer300M

fuzzy - I'll agree that in the 'tests' in most of the car mags they don't class it with the lux/near-lux market like the bmw 3, audi a4 etc... but even here at edmunds in the compare page there are a lot of near top of the line, if not top of the line cars listed (won't repeat sdmike's listing ;) I like the fact that the mags are rating the muscle of the car, whereas the lux is almost taken for granted. I've been in many of the ones listed at edmunds and find that even though some features may be missing, it's still got a lot of great qualities.

That and I personally like a big car...

Although it is a great car with a lot of amenities, I find it odd that it is top of the line. There are many features that I could easily see in a more expensive chrysler...

intrepidspirit - As for the seat - you're not all the way back are you? I know I drive with it almost all the way back (actually I pull up about 3" just so if will move when I get out :D
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
If you have the overhead computer that came with the Luxury Group make sure that "easy exit seats" is still enabled. You can turn that function on and off. If you don't have the Luxury Group, it's my understanding that many of those functions can be turned on/off manually. You might want to check your manual for how to do that. You might have hit a series of buttons that disabled it.
  • intrepidspiritintrepidspirit Member Posts: 662
Thanks for the feedback. I'm not all the way back, so that's not it...I think sdmike is right -- I don't have the package with the exit seat setting, so I must have somehow disabled the exit function by some sort of sequence pressing of the 3 power seat buttons...I will read my manual again. If all else fails, maybe I should disconnect the battery and get a reset -- I didn't do that when I installed my K&N filter, so maybe that's a good idea anyway.
  • splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
Not entirely sure why this reposted - but I'll edit it and post here :D

Intrepidspirit - I had forgotten. All the features, lilke auto tilting mirrors, single click unlock, moving seat, etc... can be turned on and off manually. They are listed in the manual. You may have disabled it by mistake. I don't remember the combination off hand, but can look it up...

I turned on the one-click unlock and the unlock on exit which are great with a family. All the doors unlock when I open the drivers door (as long as the car is off - btw, in case you hadn't known, if you open the drivers door while the car is running, it doesn't work. BUT if you then turn off the car before closing it, all the other doors unlock ;)

    good luck...
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Much to my surprise I found that the darned car remembered a lot of things when I disconnected the battery, including my seat, mirror and radio settings. So, disconnecting may not reset your "easy exit" even if it was the default setting.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
You have a 2000 right? On the 99-2000 models there are not many features that can be programmed like on the 2001 model. The 2001 is totaly different on what can be programmed. I never saw a diable feature for the easy exit seats. I do not think that can be programmed on a 2000 model. I could be wrong though. The seat will not move back if there is less then a certin amount of space. I forot what that was. So even if the seats is not all the way back, it may not slide back because of this.

    Otto-

Your frustration on this issue is shared by 200 million Americans- especially since Sept 11th. Considering the experiences of several Americans fishing in US-Canadian border areas (e.g. Detroit River & Lake St. Clair), I suggest putting fishing tackle in these Claimants' hands & pointing out they have no Canadian fishing license. Your Fish & Game folks (who seem to be everywhere) will hold them & throw away the key!!!!!
  • mikeyjohnmikeyjohn Member Posts: 365
I had the same problem with my seat and what I found is that I had been fooling with the overhead module and had turned off my mirrors from turning down and it also effected my seat .It sounds weird but once I turned on that program I was back to normal.

Auto, I'm afraid I can't give you my comment on our famous Prime Minister, as I would be cut off the air, and my language would not be acceptable. Tell Chrysler to start building military vehicles. Can you imagine an M scout car with the Infinity Stereo System, coming in 1 colour {Khaki} My order is in now LOL

because they were (and still are) unique! An entry level luxury car that just happened to have a bit of zip and handled much like a sports car. And of course, it didn't hurt that it was the prettiest car around and the price was great! (Did I forget anything?)

It's a great feeling every time I get behind the wheel of my M...

If it doesn't fit into a category, maybe that's just part of it unique character!
  • denvermdenverm Member Posts: 358
I've been in the U.K. for four days on business, returning to the U.S. on Thursday. Lots of really SMALL cars over here!

I've seen several recent posts here about the 300M's positioning, power, etc, and feel compelled to throw in my $.02 worth. To me, the 300M is a luxury/performance sedan, period. I've never had a car before that had features that could compare to it. Just list them in your mind, and it's quite a long list! I've also never had a car that performed like it.

Like computers, where a month after you buy one there are better ones on the market that are cheaper, car makers continue to improve their products. One mfr. is always being leapfrogged by others, given the design/build timelines, and given the need for a mfr. to recoup its investment. If a given design had only a two-year life, instead of a five-year life, it would cost a lot more.

We all expect that the 300N will kick a** when it is introduced, i.e., leapfrogging its competition, like presumably many thought the 300M did when it came out. I frankly doubt that I would buy a different car today if I was buying now, rather than 15 months ago, but I do know, without any doubt, that I made a great decision when I bought my M. It's a fabulous car, IMHO. I'm certainly not going to grouse based on what the competition has done since then, or based on what DC hasn't done. I hope and expect to happily drive this car for many years to come (til, like a pet, it needs to be put to sleep, to borrow someone else's recent analogy).

Will there be better cars available by then for what I paid for my M in 2000? Without a doubt. Does that bother me? Not in the least. That's progress, folks. If you can afford to trade up every couple years and feel it worthwhile, great, but if your priorities lie elsewhere, don't kick yourself over the choice you made or over DC's perceived lack of progress in the three short years since they introduced the M.

I also own an '84 Harley Sportster. Are the bigger/newer Harleys (not to mention other makes) better? Absolutely! But you know what? I get a great big kick out of riding that bike, and sometimes I think it's more worthwhile to mentally compare it with what the generation of motorcycle enthusiasts before me thought was state-of-the-art. There was a time when serious riders would have given their left nut to own my bike!

Go back to the time when you bought your M. Do you now think there was another car then that would have been a better purchase for you? If so, hey, you made a decision that time has given your reason to question. That's life. If not, enjoy what you bought, without worrying about whether there is something else out there now that seems more competitive.

Sorry if I'm being too preachy here, but I really think it's time for a counterpoint to all the recent "grass is greener" stuff I've seen on this board. Take a moment to shut out any thoughts of keeping up with the latest/newest/fastest/mostluxurious, and go take a drive in your M and experience that car for what it is. How do you like it?

I know what my answer to that question is.

    It's a hell of a car.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I agree with your points, except where people are disappointed with the M because of repair problems that couldn't have been expected at the time of purchase.

So, what is the general mood in the UK about the 9/11 attack and the subsequent retaliation?
  • fastdriverfastdriver Member Posts: 2,273
    sdmike2-

Thought you forgot about that or were just kidding. That's why I didn't mention it again. I can wait now that I know I'll see it some day. BTW- make sure it's as shiny as your baby! LOL.....

    intrepidspirit-

LOL... too many miles!! I'll have to buy this car at the end of the lease if I keep driving it like this! I had the chance to drive Christine, but I was always wondering what was going to happen next that would then require another visit to the "5-STAR"! So far, so good.

I agree. I do like a roomy car that can handle and perform. My 300M can hold it's own aganist any 30K car. If I had spent 60K (back in 99) yes, I probably could have gotten a nicer car. But bang for the buck, I am very happy.

Hey All! It's been awhile since my last post. Hope you're all well.

Visited my local Goodyear dealer (again) this morning to take care of what else, front end shimmy at 60-70mph. I know one of the tires is defective, there is a rub mark which was there when I bought the car, but I didn't mention it to the salesman (my fault).

Anyhow, at 28k miles, the wear bars are beginning to show, and I'm thinking about buying a new set. I don't think I'll go with Goodyear's again, but I want a similar STOCK type tire (not into low profile, or any of that).

Can anyone recommend or comment on their replacement tires (type, performance, warranty, price, wear etc.)?

It would really help. I think I pi@%ed the Goodyear salesguy off when I told him I was going to check the 300M bulletin board to see what other owners are doing for replacement tires!

    Thanks!
