My OEM alarm has been going off a lot today for no reason. I deactivated my aftermarket alarm so it shouldn't be the cause. Thinking it might be the Automatic Headlight switch problem, I've turned off my headlights. A few days ago while driving my dome light went on and faded off.
My 2002, 300M, has a vibration, felt through the steering wheel at 65-75MPH. It seems to be Drive Train related as it doesn't happen without the car accelerating in O.D. Have it back at the dealer now. Has anyone heard of a similar problem? Thanks Tom
I'm about to take my M in for the 5th or 6th time for a small squeek/rattle from the Moon roof...Basically, then it is closed, it has a squeek while driving..and the same squeek when you push up on the glass while it is closed..(Almost like the seals squeek) it's very annoyoying..especially when I have a customer in the car..It's a 2001, bought in November of 2000..it only has 14K on it, but it's been in the shop 5-6 times..they have replaced the glass, the seal, the runners on the track..almost everything, yet they can not fix it! Now they are talking about "sanding yes sanding with sandpaper" the seals..like that will work! Does anybody have a similar problem? If so, did your dealer fix it right the first time...and how? The closest 5* is over an hour away, but I'm getting good cooperation from the current service manager at the Non5*..I'm thinking about getting the factory rep involved at this point (Lemon Law)...Does anybody think that it's possible that the entire roof wasn't made to spec?
My wife was involved in an accident while driving our 300M in July. She's fine. My wife, that is . The M suffered over $5000 in damage. Much of it involved replacing a lot of internal stuff that was damaged, shaken out of joint, had battery acid spills, etc.
We got the car back from our 5* after 6 weeks. It has been fine since then, aside from the right parking light not working at first. Sure hope we don't have anything like it happen again. The Mitsubishi Gallant rental car drove nice, but felt like a toy compared to my M.
jrease - that hurts just to look at it I feel for you. But at least it's back. I had a 98 concorde before my M and it was in the shop for several weeks once. It killed me to drive the damned neon
lalarry - I have the Michellin MXV4+'s that come standard on the newer M's and they are nice. Mine are only S rated since it's the non-php. I've seen here that the Yoko's Avid T4's are a great deal for the price. They handle well and are very inexpensive. I'd probably lean that way when mine need replacement.
I think it is the nature of the car. I have a 99 with 17000 and have experienced noise from the moonroof, glovebox and some as of yet unascertained sources. Initially, it was my intention to address these problems but, after discovering that both of my partners (whose M's I purchased for them at the same time I purchased mine) have similar noises I decided to live with them. I don't think that I can reasonably expect the same fit and finish as my previous car (Lexus GS300) and chose to live with the noises and otherwise enjoy the car.
hello everyone.this is my first time posting, but long time reader.first i want to thank everyone for info you all have helped me with.now..i just got my `99 m back from dealer and they replaced front strut mounts, and stabilizer bars.it has 39,0000 miles on it so it wasn`t covered by warrenty.cost me $600 OUCH! anyone heard if this is a common problem? have a good day

Intrepidspirit, there is a way to turn off the seeat glide and turn it on on the 99-00 I have a 00 and turned it off. I *think* it's done by holding the seat switch to move backwards and cycling the ignition switch to on and off. Check the owners guide, it's in there somewhere. Splatt, do you have the lux group on your 2001? It'd be nice to set my car to unlock the doors when I pull up on the handle, people in the back always get locked in. Wonder if the 2000 can do it?
I have no idea if this is the same cause, but I heard a squeaking from my moonroof after I waxed my 01 M for the first time. I was a bit sloppy I got some wax on the seal. The squeaking went away after I cleaned the seal thoroughly with Meguire's Gold Class Trim Detailer (costs about $4 for 10 oz bottle). If it were my M I would not be too thrilled about the dealer sanding my moonroof seal- Sounds like an invitation for serious leakage!
I have an Alpine TME-M790 monitor for the front of my M and am wanting to put an overhead (flip down) monitor (around 7") for the back seat passengers. Any feelings for the best brands out there? It will be use for DVD movies, Navigation, and TV viewing.
Anyone hear any more details about the 300M special coming with a higher axle ratio? What is it compared to stock and what does it make the gears top out at? Could we buy it once its on the parts list and drop it into current M's?
The current too tall 1st (48) and 2nd gears (88) in my '99 PHP are my least favorite feature. The other day I punched it at around ~75 on the highway and got a very week response. I experimented and realized it had been too close to the top of 2nd gear and so had only kicked down to 3rd gear (which did not give it enough rev's to really get going). Upshot - I would seriously consider swallowing losing some high end mileage if this ratio fixes these gears to something more reasonable.
You can turn the seat glide on and off by: Pressing and holding the SET button. Move the horizontal seat switch rearward. Release the Set button and the horizontal switch.
This is from the 2000 300M owner's manual, page 51.
hatax - I'll get my manual in a bit and post the stuff here. I know it's in there somewhere No, I don't have the lux group with that you can change it through the overhead console. However, as ceikost mentioned for the seat, there is the same for the door unlock. It's a nice feature.
silverbullet - you're making me wish I could Just can't afford it (and I'd definitely have to buy it at the end of the lease then
OK - got the manual. Here are some of the features that can be changed w/o the lux group (at least on the 01. Not sure on any other version)
Automatic unlock on exit 1) Close all doors and place key in ignition 2) cycle the ignition switch between ON/RUN and OFF 4 times ending in OFF 3) Depress the power door lock unlock switch to unlock the doors 4) A single chime will indicate the completion of the programming...
Lamp Flash enable/disable (unlock from keyfob) 1) Press and hold the Lock button on the transmitter 2) Continue to hold for more than 4 secs, but less than 10 then press Trunk button 3) Release both buttons
Horn Chirp Feature 1) Press andhold the lock button on transmitter 2) Continue to hold for more than 4 and less than 10 secs. then press the Unlock button 3) release both buttons
Unlatch trunk immediately (don't have to hold 3 secs) 1)Press and hold Unlock on transmitter 2) hold more than 4 less than 10 secs, then press Trunk button 3) release both buttons
Mirror tilt in reverse (I've been told this isn't on earlier than 01 versions though - can't hurt to try
1) Press and hold the Set button 2)Move the horizontal seat switch forward 3)Release both buttons
Driver seat to glide (done - above thanks
I think that's all - enjoy
OK - Spark plug question - does anyone use the Bosch Platinum plugs and noticed a real difference? I don't really need to change them, but it's not that expensive. TIA
i switched to the plat 4+ from bosch a few months ago. there healthier for igntion really. i didn't notice a gain or loss of any sort. some ppl say they do some say they dont. for $32, they're worth it. you can tell a difference when starting the car but thats all for me
Man that sucks! You should have made a REALLY BIG stink about it, & talked to the manager, & see if they would cover it. You are only 3K over. Also that strut cap problem is a TSB, & is a known problem. That's what I really hate about car company's. They don't stand behind there cars! Some have problems, & they know it, yet if that problem devoples after your warranty is out, then WE have to pay big money to fix it! Makes me mad!
I was just poking around on the Acura-tl.com website and went into the Type-S forum.
Some people are complaining there that TL-S is not as quick when accelerating past 110mph.
Since you have a CL-S which is pretty much the same as TL-S, do you have such impression? And how does it compare to your 300M in that aspect?
They also complained that slight braking from triple digits does not feel comfortable as the rear end feels squirrelly. Any experience with that?
Personally I have never experienced any symptoms like that when I took my 300M past 120mph. It pulls like a locomotive (TGV at that and remains very stable when slowing down. Although my warped rotors make the car vibrate under braking.
I experienced a few of these mysterious noises when I first got my M and applied a trick that I have previously used to alleviate these annoyances on other cars. I eliminated these random noises by using silicone spray lubricant.
Once you locate the approximate location of an errant noise, look for areas where plastic panels might rub against each other (or against a metal structural piece) and spray the bejeezus out of them with silicone lubricant spray. It sometimes takes a day or two for the lubricant to work its way into the points where the rubbing is occurring, but it often clears up noises that might initially appear to be originating from something that is loose. Copious applications of Armorall and other protective sprays seem to have a similar effect, though they're not quite as effective.
referencing #9719: what defines an M as having lux group? eMily is a 2000, with moonroof, shiny wheels, sytandard stereo and overhead compuTor. Will I be able to do some of these things mentioned in message 9719? $5,000 damage.....the 1/2 star dealer I go to did $600 by just scratching the bottom of the TWO passenger doors AND the plastic trim piece just ahead of the rear pasenger wheel well! Also hello to tom198--glad to see you posted your 300m problem with the vibration problem you are having...
the AND part: they've discovered another case of anthrax--here in Noo Yawk. The woman you has it--the cutaneous anthrax version (throght the skin..) works uptown at the NBC Studio. They SAY its NOT like the OTHER anthrax, but does it really matter? Sheesh, its spooking the daylites out of me.... got p3's two newest members Boomer Mease and Patrick Bonfigt--whom I virtually harassed into joining OUR club.."this thing of ours". didn't really harrass him...he emailed me regarding a search for 300m-related add-ons, accesories and was asking about a bra--for his M....
In the 01's (don't know about earlier models the lux group included several things. It had an overhead vehicle info center. Not just the trip computer/mileage info, but a more comprehensive computer that could control it. Also included nicer wood interior, with wood on the steering wheel and some other things. If you have the EVIC then you can change the stuff I posted through there. If not you can change it the way I posted. I do not know if any of the above are avail on anything previous to the 01, but it's worth a shot...
Thanks to everyone on the advice for resetting the seat glide feature! I followed the instructions in the manual, but couldn't get it reset. I finally figured it out.
This is what the manual says:
You can turn the seat glide on and off by: Pressing and holding the SET button. Move the horizontal seat switch rearward. Release the Set button and the horizontal switch.
I tried this several times. Each time I got to the "Move the horizontal seat switch rearward", there was no movement in the seat. So, I moved it forward briefly and then rearward. It would then move rearward, but it would not reset.
Finally, I accepted the fact it would not move rearward in that mode (and wasn't supposed to) and voila! when I turned the ignition off, it was reset!
Pretty easy, but they could have said the seat would not move rearward in that mode -- I thought something was wrong with the switch.
Avalanche, thanks for the link. I just e-mailed them to see if they can duplicate the 300M factory mats, and what pricing we could get for either a quantity buy or Club member discounts. I'll do whatever I can to get us a good deal.
I just purchased a brand new 2001 300m at a great price since the 2002 models are out. I almost did not purchase the car because of horror stories I have heard about Chrysler but I thought about the horror stories I have heard about Ford and I have owned 2 thunderbirds that have not give me any troube until I reached 100,000 miles. Therefore, I decided to take a blind leap of faith and purchase a 2001 300m.
First off, this is undoubtedly the best looking, sportiest car with the most features at this price range. Therefore, it was easy to decide to make this purchase because it brought more to the table than any of its competitors.
Also, in 1 week i have logged about a 1000 miles driving it (i commute to work every day about 100 miles round trip) and I am absolutely in love with the way it drives. Furthermore, I look forward to driving it everyday and this is early to say but I do not forsee myself getting tired of it any time in the future.
My analysis of the car at this point is all great, the only thing I dislike is sometimes it rides a little rough and I wish the steering wheel controls were lighted. However, these minor complaints do not in anyway change my belief that this is a wonderful car. Also, I don't mind giving up a little softer ride to gaing the handling and hp of a 300m.
My 300m is a bright silver metallic with chrome wheels, full size spare, side airbags, 360 watt stereo system, overhead trip computer, and moonroof.
Thanks guys for listening and I will be posting on this board from time to time to learm about how to care for this car. My first question is what should I wash or wax my car with for my first time washing it this weekend and how do I get that kinda rust oxidation off of my brake rotors behind my rims?
Congrats on your new car! Lots of people here swear by Zaino car polish. It's a 2 (or 3) step polish, and they have lots of other car products (leather treatment, etc.). You have to mail order it. Go to http://zainobros.com/ to check it out. Also check out membership in the 300M Enthusiasts Club, http://www.300mclub.org
Congrats on the car. I've used many different car care products. Zaino is by far the best. It looks great and has good durability. Additionally, Sal Zaino is great about answering any questions you have. In my experience, e-mail response time is usually within 2 hours. I recently purchased a Town and Country for the wife in bright silver metallic. The Zaino looks great on it.
Great to hear about your 300 purchase. if you want the latest news or info about mods on the 300 you have come to the best site on the net.Keep posting .
Congratulations and welcome! The rust on the rotors will come off the first time you apply the brakes. All rotors rust when the car stands for a while...dont worry about it. I am surprised at your mention of a rough ride. Do you have the PHG? That sometimes produces a rougher ride, but only on harsh pavement.
Congrats and welcome! I hope you enjoy your M as much as I do. Don't worry about the rust. That will wear off due to braking/friction. Mine had it too.
I have 2 300M's - 2000 $ 2001. The Michelins on the 2001 have a maximum air pressure of 44 psi. If the dealer or someone inflated them to that level, I would expect a rough ride. I think most 300mer's prefer 35 - 36 psi...
Good news club members. We finally got the hats done. They are being shipped to "the prez" in the morning, so look for an official announcement soon. In the meantime, here's a picture of the new items.
congrats on your wise choice!!! and you've come to the right place for any questions or comments you may have, the ppl here and answer most everything you can come up with, also, if your into modding your car, this again, is a great place. like an example?
that company selling the mats retails them for a high price of over $100 a set---doubt they could sell to the club with emroidery for under $50 which I would suggest as a target price----we should use a simple logo, maybe similar to the 300M emblem on the back of our cars--dont think the club logo would look good on mats
Zaino: anyone know when they are converting to the one step Zaino process---I have been patiently waiting for its release--anyone talk to Sal about this?
I think you've been saying that the Sandstone interior is no longer available. I knew this wasn't true and just went to Chrysler's website to build a 300M and see for myself. It IS infact still available, maybe you got confused with Special having only the Taupe/Dark Slate combo. interior.
Comments
Have it back at the dealer now.
Has anyone heard of a similar problem?
Thanks
