    fuzzywuzzy-

Sorry to hear this. Hope it's under warranty. A long time ago, like the FIRST week that I had Christine, I was afraid to do ANYTHING to her unless she went to the "5-STAR"! I even stopped going to Jiffy-Lube where I had been going for years! The tranny and the way it shifted was ONE reason I wanted her GONE before she reached 36,000 miles. My lease wasn't up until June!

Use a 6-point socket (avoids rounding the bolt head) with a flex handle on the drain plug. If it still won't budge, slide a section of longer pipe over the flex handle to get more leverage.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
hex won't help - the plug is round now.

The tranny has been fine. No problems at all with it. I'm at 35K miles. I have the extended warrenty just in case. I really hope it's just a bad speed sensor.
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
How about a good pair of vice grips. You could always drill it out.
  • rschellerrscheller Member Posts: 42
fuzzywuzzy - Sorry to hear your problem fuzzy... hope it's something easy. The tranny on the 300M is my biggest concern. That's why I went with the 7yr/100K mile warranty.

ruski - When I had my 99 300M in to the dealer for 30K service a couple months back, the service manager called me during the process and said they had damaged my oil drain plug and were replacing the oil pan. He said it was their fault, so no charge to me. Wasn't that nice of him. :-)~

sdmike - Congrates on the new M, she's a beauty.

fastdriver - Congrates on the Acura CL, hope she gives you long and trouble free service. Oh... and don't be a stranger here.

Oh man, I envy all you CA M owners. Monterey is a great venue for a road trip. Too bad TX is a little too far away.

Regarding Zaino products-I have been pleased with the results of all the products I have used: Clay bar, Z1, Z2. Will do the interior next. Just put on the 4th coat of Z2. (Hmmm-Is that compulsive behavior?) Anyway, should get me through the brutal summer. Anyone care to comment on Z6 as a between wax job touch up product? Tree pollen drop is heavy this time of year.

Welcome to all new posters! Great to see the M posse growing, despite Acura defections.

Four coats- obsessive?? LOL... Try over 30!! Couldn't get enough of that wet-look shine on Christine! Can't wait until the weather cooperates and I have the time to put Zaino on my new ride!

sounds great, but silverbullet4 is right, it's a long drive from Texas! I've been to the Historics at Laguna Seca. It's fabulous!!! There's nothing (mechanical) in the world as pretty and desireable as some of those 50's and 60's sports cars. Some of my favorites are the 250S/300S Maseratis, the D-type Jaguars, the Ferrari Mondials and Testa-Rossas (not the recent road car, the 50's race car). I would love to be able to come, but vacation to Colorado in July is already planned.

The idea for the Monterey 300M Club Rendezvous was suggested by a new member. We encourage all members to come up with ideas for a 300M Club meet in your part of the country, we're not trying to keep everything on the West Coast.

Submit a good idea (probably should be coincident with a Chrysler or Mopar sponsored event for best results) and we'll try to make it happen. I'd love to start out with small meets all over the country. We have to start somewhere. We would definitely need help with planning and organizing, so here's your chance to get involved. Each event would need to be headed up by an Event Coordinator that would be attending the event. We'd be happy to give you ideas on what needed to be done and how to do it, but just couldn't personally take on responsibility for more than one event.

I had my 2000 300M in for service on Friday -- I took it to a 0* Dodge dealer because I refuse to take it to my 5* Chrysler dealer (even for the 3 free oil changes)!

I was pleasantly surprised with the service. They diagnosed the left drift as a radial pull and rotated the tires. It seems to be improved, but I haven't driven enough since to make sure. Could be one of those "badyear" issues I hear you guys talking about. At least they didn't try to snow me with the typical 5* "crown in the road" routine!
The auto climate control seems to be better..I'll find out when it gets hotter. They recalibrated the sensor (my 5* said it was working within acceptable limits and wouldn't adjust it).
My driver arm rest was cracked inside and they have ordered me a whole new door panel.
The inside rear door weather stripping was loose and they reordered new stripping rather than reglueing the old.
The total response was far superior to my 5*.

BTW, I also had the outer strips along each side of the windshield replaced on my 98 Intrepid. The rubber/plastic coating began to peel off...the strips look identical to the 300m, so you may want to check these occasionally...

    sdmike
Congratulations on your purchase! I have the same inferno red...wait till you get 3 or 4 coats of Zaino on her!
Don't let your dealer remove any minor scratches. My dealer buffed mine, burnt the paint and had to repaint the hood (and pillars and rear quarter panels) 3 times to match the color. In between, they tried to get me to accept their "two-tone" effort! They also refused to swap out the car after they had ruined the original paint finish and Chrysler said it was a problem between me and the dealer. The dealer had the car for a month!

Roger, I am in Stockton about 1.5 miles east of I-5, which is probably the route you will take coming down. Morgan Hill is not too bad of a drive. As the date gets closer I'll firm up on the trip. Guess I should get a room booked through you guys soon though?

Where would I find out about any pending DC sponsored events in my area? Do you think they have a web site that covers that?

Laguna Seca: I played the golf course there, as well as The Inn at Spanish Bay course. Stunning vistas. Very close to Pebble Beach. Golfer's dream! (and my Co. paid for it)

    Regards, Silver

PS What about Z6? Any opinion?
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
DC may have a web page on their sponsored events, but I haven't been able to find it. I'd start by searching on Mopar clubs in your area and see what they might have to offer. The Monterey event was suggested by a new member who actually participates in the Monterey Historics every year, so it was a perfect fit.

For that matter, it doesn't have to be a DC or Mopar sponsored event; just see what NASCAR or other races are happening and just plan to meet that weekend. You might start with http://www.scca.org and http://www.nascar.com.

It doesn't have to be anything formal, just a bunch of 300Maniacs getting together to party and swap stories. If there happen to be some auto races you can attend, so much the better!

Thanks for the info on the scratch nightmare. Roger briefed me on your problem a couple of days ago. I've decided to take a shot at the scratches with Zaino Z-5 before I have anyone take a buffer to the car.

fuzzy - Severe bummer. My wife's Grand Caravan needed a new transmission at 40,000 miles. I'm glad I had the extended warranty, and it's the reason I bought one for my M. Hopefully she'll be better than new when they get her back together.

    Hey People,
I am looking at doing the dual exhaust conversion to my 300 and I was wondering, who here has it and what do they think of the noise difference? I am going to do the front collector muffler along with the rest of it to avoid the 2k RPM resonance I've heard of, and also I'm going to try to do it all in stainless, so 14258 up front and I'll see if they make the Rhino 921 in a stainless flavor, if not, I'll find a counterpart. =) Also, has anyone here had problems with warranty work or if it voids any other part of the warranty other than exhaust?

    Thanks alot!

I saw a show on TNN a while back (Horsepower TV or popular Hot Rodding or something like that, I don't remember exactly) where they took a Camaro and put on a cold-air K&N type intake, and put on Cat-back exhaust and a header. What piqued my interest most, was that they replaced the catalytic convertor with a "high flow model" from a company whose name I can't remember. Has anyone considered this? The ran a dyno test following each item they put on (intake, header, catalytic convertor, hi-flow exhaust) to see the difference and I think the convertor made about a 10hp difference. Just curious. I assume the M has a standard cast-iron type exhaust "header" (for lack of a better word) as opposed to a true tube header.

I finally got around to taking some pictures of my new M today. I had the oportunity to talk to some of you in the chat session last wednesday, and look forward to posting to the boards more. I traded my 98 Aurora in on this 00 M last tuesday, and absolutely love it. While it doesnt have as nice a ride as the Aurora did, it certainly handels a heck of a lot better and I think looks better as well. The Aurora was starting to look dated.

As you can see the car already has a rear spoiler, chrome mufler & tips, and tinted rear window. A friend of mine owns a CDJ dealership and took me to the sale to pick this out. So far I am extremely happy w/ the car and glad to know there are other enthusiast out there. Look forward to talking to everyone.

Hope the link below shows up as a clickable link, if not I may need some help.

    Kevin,

Go here to check out my installation show-n-tell.
    http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=934019&a=9266730

The sound is what I would best describe as throaty and mellow. On loudness, I'd rate it at 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being stock and 10 being straight pipes. There is a slight cabin resonance at 1800 to 2200, even with the Magnaflow collector, but only loud enough to remind you that it's not stock.

If you need to use something other than a Rhino 921, you may get a much louder system, so be careful what replacement you choose. Midas sells the Rhino brand, so you might see if they have a stainless equivalent to the 921. The Rhino is what gives it the nice mellow sound.

I see no reason why it would void the warranty other than (obviously) on the exhaust system.

    Hope this helps,

Congrats on your new M. Chrome tips look HOT! Where did you get them? I've been keeping my eyes open for almost a year now, and havn't been able to find any which look as nice as yours. Also, did you install them yourself or have someone else do it?

i usually take a towel slap it around on the car to get off the lose dirt then spray on some Z-6 and wipe it on. it works great i don't know if i'll ever put another coat of Z-2 on it. i also wipe it down with Z-6 after every wash, and it smells good. that reminds me i'm out, time for 2 more bottles.

ruski - no they didn't say, as I recall, their words were something like "...we damaged your oil drain plug, so we're replacing the entire oil pan at no charge."
thill381 - Your M is the same color as mine. I don't have them, but the chrome tips look very sharp. Also, I don't have the rear spolier... but I'd not put one on mine anyhow. P.S. Did you really have to sell your house to get the M... just kidding. ;-)

I've been looking for a car to replace the 98 Intrepid ES (lease coming due) and I was intrigued by the lease offer for the Jaguar S Type 3.0. I don't know if this is national or just California, but the lease offer is $1,000 down, $499 first month payment + tax + DMV -- total drive off around $2,300. This is for 39 months at $499/month, but with only 10,000 miles per year (pro-rated). I think this is a fantastic deal for a $44,000 car!

However, it doesn't come with a CD player (wiring only). If you want a stock CD player, you have to get both the power/memory package plus the premium (175 watt) sound package at the Cars Direct discount price of around $3,000 (this also gives you a CD changer). The standard sound system is an 80 watt, 4 speaker system!

Maybe I'm just spoiled with my standard 240 watt (CD player included) 9 speaker system. I'm sure the car is luxurious and fun to drive, but I would have expected a higher level of standard luxury features in a $44,000 car!

I haven't entirely ruled it out (because it is a Jaguar), but I'm still looking...

I'm gonna have to make an appointment soon. The weatherstripping has REALLY shrunk and when the driver's door was open I could see the sun and sky in between the body and the strip! I know that there is another seal on the door but this could leak, couldn't it? I also have to get the badyears rotated and that damn rattle behind the guages fixed--I think with the info from otto they'll finally know what to do. As for the transmission issues that I am seeing on here, I know exactly why. The transmission is one of the worst parts of the car--mine still slips daily and when I go to pass someone, the engine goes from being normal to having a violent snap, the tach shoots up, and the engine sounds like it's about to self-destruct. I know you can use the Autostick, but I still haven't touched it and don't plan on it. Other than that, the car is still filthy but I never get around to getting some Zaino--does it really last long and keep dark colors like the deep slate looking relatively clean?

I think I have Christine's brother--this car is scary sometimes. Well, who knows. Here's the pics: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1172860&a=9559248

Thanks for the great comments. The tips are actually part of an exhaust system made by Xanos. There is an all chrome muffler and the chrome tips are actually part of the muffler. They where on the car when I bought it. I lucked out in that aspect, but in the back of mine mind I wonder how hard the car was driven by the previous owner.

rscheller: Sharp eye, I tried to crop out the sign as much as possible. The car is actually a company car, you see I expense a new car and my wife buys a new house. I think maybe I got the short end of the stick.

I am back on the road in my 01 inferno red M, after the accident with 264 miles.

The body shop did a good job, no real obvious differences from new.

I have had the car back to the dealer for several small fixes since getting it back, including a "engine malfunction" light which keeps coming back on. The latest is that the intake manifold is cracked and the part is back ordered. The 5* claims this is not from the accident, but I dont buy that.

Drove the car to Orlando on Saturday (about 60 miles) and she handled very well, drove straight, smooth, etc.

On the way back driving down I-95 I encountered a nasty hail storm and figured the new paint would be screwed up, however, no visible evidence of damage.

State Farm has sent me a check for $3000 for "diminished value" in addition to the $6000 worth of repairs. I need to decide whether to keep the car (now has 1K miles) and pocket the cash, or trade in on a new one. I don't want to spend the next five years wondering whether every squeak, rattle or problem was due to the accident.

That said, I love the car and the way it drives and looks. Have received innumerable compliments.

Nice looking ride, but I thought we decided at the Wednesday chat that the color was BRONZE *grin* . Now I see what the Xanos exhaust system is. What does it replace, just the resonator and tips or the horizontal muffler too?

The chrome pipes look better than the '01 factory setup.

Just returned from my 5 star about the weather-stripping. One look and he ordered all four doors replaced. Bringing it in the morning. Second trip to the 5 star, speed sensor on cruise control and replaced the transmitter for the garage door opener. Both times have be great. Must be something about living in God's country (Colorado)

I had this happen on my Scirrocco. Buy something called a screw tap. You pre-drill a hole (the packaging the tap comes in will tell you what size bit to use). You knock the tap into the hole with a hammer and then use a regular ratchet to remove the bad plug.
  • massivslinkymassivslinky Member Posts: 13
Mine is shot too. I think there's a TSB on this problem. I'm going to pay the $20.00 to get the full description of all the 300M TSB's. Figure it's a small price to pay to get some inside information.

Where are you going to get those? I looked on Alldata but they only go as far as 1998.

Roger2k, can we get this and list on the club web site? I know we have the Alldata link now, but it's only the topline description, sames as NTHSA listings. I would like the details before talking to a 5* dealer about any of them.

    Thanks in advance.
  • thill381thill381 Member Posts: 64
Thats right the car is Bronze and nowhere will I refer to it as Cinimon. Gesh, I even hate to type that word. No offense to anyone else w/ a c*****n 300M, but in the chat room we decided BRONZE was more fitting (manly).

The Xanos. exhaust does not replace the vertical muffler it replaces whatever the two factory exhaust tips are connected too. Since this was done before I owned the car I assume that is a resonator not secondary muffler. I have done several searches looking for a retailer of the Xanos. exhaust to try to get an Idea of cost so I could add another for the duel exhaust, but have found no information. As I said before the entire muffler (resonator) is chrome, and the tips are kind of a squared off oval shape w/ XANOS etched on the top of each one. As I said befor I am glad I didn't have to pay for it or the spoiler. I couldn't be happier w/ the car and with the people and informaion on this board.

When taking pictures to post to photopoint ius XGA or VGA better? This first set I posted are in "full size" and seem to large when you view them full size.

    Thanks

We can look into it. Definitely would be good info to have as long as we didn't run into copyright infringement by posting it on the web site.

Massivslinky - what is the purchase source and do you have any idea what they say about copyright issues? If they're charging money for this information, we could get into big trouble posting it on the site for free.

Look at post 1543. Deja Vu? That's my "big red". You must have her sister. :) Congrats on getting the "diminished value" settlement. That's the first time I've heard of one of those. I vote for keeping the car. You can always sell it later if she does start developing some annoying habits. If she doesn't, it would have beena shame to sell her.

    beach15-
No offense, but is posting her some kind of therapy for you?

    captainps-
What was wrong with your tranamitter? I programmed mine today for my garage door opener (says the programming worked) but it won't open the door. Are there some thing that are incompatible, or do I have an issue similar to you that needs replacement.

    -Mike
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
In california you can go to traffic school and have the violation taken off your record. You can do this only once so often, but I don't remember the time. Not sure where you are from but something to look into.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
After I read the manual (duh) I determined that my garage door opener "rolls" the remote codes. I had to program the garage door to recognize the M transmitter instead of the other way around. Works great after about 15 minutes of fuss. Not sure if you have a similar problem, but something to consider.

I also found out today that Sal doesn't take credit cards. Sheesh! Now I have to wait for the postal service to handle this transaction instead of being able to order Zaino by phone. I got some aluminum wheel cleaner at Kragan this afternoon and the clerk tried to tell me that some new Turtle Wax product was as good as Zaino. I just laughed and told him I'd come back once I had ithe Zaino on. :)

Finally, I drove a friend's new 325hp Camaro SS today. It's outfitted by Chevy's version of Ford's SVO (forget the name) and it has cold air intake, special exhaust, and several other goodies. Boy did that thing run like a scalded cat. However, I'll take my 300M over it any day. It's ride was harsh, it was small inside, it rattled, the hydraulic clutch caught too high and required a real workout, and it took a lot of work to get the car into each gear. I guess you can get used to it, but for $28,000 I was expecting a lot more from that car. My friend is a hard core V-8 rear wheel drive type of guy, but he loved the M. :)

In my post about the tranny, I used the other word for p & pat sent me an email(only at 4:40pm eastern time, & I posted the message at like 8:30am that morning) Telling me it was deleted. I have a suggestion, why delete the whole message? Why not just the word? Also pat, I am not able to edit that post. I have to repost the whole message again. Also, where can I find this user agreement? I want to read the whole thing. I want to know if it gives a list of words I cannot use. Or does edmunds just pick ones they feel cannot be said & what criteria is used to determin that fact.

Are the replacements built better than the originals? Mine seem to be too small for the door opening. I called the dealer yesterday and he ordered 4 new ones. On one air leaks into the car. On the others you see the tack welds for the frame.
  • rklassrklass Member Posts: 133
Anny, you can attend a New York State DMV approved traffic school and get the points removed from your license. It will also get you a 10% reduction in your auto insurance for three years, which will help offset any increase in insurance premium. Get a list of approved schools from your local Erie County auto bureau.
Did you get that spring clean up done on your M yet?

I recently installed new garage door opener with rolling codes. I was having trouble getting my car remote to open. I called the DC number in my car manual and the person walked me through the fix. Turns out, after I did all the was in the manual, I had to then hit the button on the garage door motor to capture the new code. Works fine now.
