Don't loose that color coordinated cell phone of yours, I can tell you that my Nokia has the faux wood looking faceplate, and it's an identical match to the wood-trim package I installed in my car..blends in perfectly!
I've had my M for 10 months now, do 60/40 driving, moderate foot, and I've been sitting at 21.0 mpg for months now.
Bye the bye, how long did you all run break-in on your cars? 300 miles, 1000, what? Also, is there a minimum time that DC wants break-in oil left in the engine?
Happy MMMotoring!
Rob
I left my "break in oil" in for 3k and change it every 3k miles. It was hard to keep speeds down, but I did wait about 500 miles before putting my foot into it.
sdmike- I can't seem to find the 300M jacket on ebay. That might have been cool! Did you but it?!?!

catguy - Pics man, give us pics!
ALL - One of my co-workers told me that last night Speed Vision (apparently a cable channel) had an entire show on the history of the 300. She said they also showed the 2002. If you get this channel you might want to check your TV Guide.
By varying your driving speeds this allows the rings to seat properly. If you want to go 90 m.p.h go for it just drop back to 80 or up to 100 after a couple minutes. :-)
I just can't agree with it. I have a 01' with PHP.
1) Interior is not quiet at all, it is not any better than a camry. Road noise is quiet high.
2) The transmission is not responsive at all, my 00' Nissan Quest response much better.
I hope my M is not a downtuned one. I would like to hear more comments.
Any way, I love the M, I believe AllPar boasts for Chrysler.
Vow Monterey Rendezvous! I can't wait, I live in San Jose, see ya!
One of the "interviewees" is Don Warnaar, a new member of the Chrysler 300M Enthusiasts Club. Don is also involved in the Chrysler 300 Club International. He owns both a vintage "letter series" 300 and a 300M. Talk about loving your Mopars!!
Set your VCRs for Sunday at 9:00 am EST. This is a great video for 300M owners. You can check out the whole Speedvision program lineup at http://www.speedvision.com.

They said, "Transmission flare has disappeared, eliminating a problem noted by Motor Trend as well as by us; indeed, the transmission seemed much smoother as a whole. (Part of this may have been due to the use of a new fluid, Type 9096). We suspect there were other changes, but those were the ones we noticed."
Can someone explain "transmission flare"? Otto?
Can I use this type fluid in my 99? Maybe it'd help help my tranny quirkiness (flare?).
Rick
At least I have a very nice looking, luxurious ride while I am scheming. (2k bright silver, hole, big sound, PHG)
Have a nice weekend, Silver
I thought I should share something with this board. While I am always on here talking about my M, it is actually my wife's car. She's always complaining about something with it and I find my own issues when I drive it. I'm just always the one who surfs the web and comes here for advice/complaints. I myself drive old cars (each time I get a new one, it usually is 10 years older than the last). I used to have a 1970 Dodge Coronet that was 77' Corvette yellow with a white stripe on the rear. At the same time, I had a 1979 GMC van that I still drive. Before moving to Delaware, I sold the Coronet (sometimes I really regret it, that car was so fun, looked cool, and I always took it to shows. Last July, I bought a two-tone blue Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu in Jersey. It's a daily driver but still needs a little work and should be painted soon. I don't bother with any of the new cars myself.
As for the 300M, it still is as wacky as ever. Some days it rattles or vibrates (not much but noticable) and other days it's tight, solid, and drives nice. We just can't figure it out. Both my wife and I notice the slipping transmission but this might be considered normal according to Chrysler. But hey, at least M owners (or any Chrysler for that matter) haven't been told to park their cars which will then be towed to the dealer because of a front suspension that breaks (the new 2002 GM SUV's). Our car's suspensions just vibrate or pull (could be bad tires too).
I'll post links to some new pictures soon.

It rained a little bit here in South Florida last night. I was coming home after the rain, the road was slightly wet. Took an off ramp that curves left, up and above the highway. Yellow speed limit sign says 30mph. My 300M normally has no problem doing 60 on that curve when it is dry. So I went around at 50mp this time, because it was a bit wet.
Halfway into the curve, the M started to do a four-wheel slide. I thought no problem, I do four-wheel slides for fun all the time, on the dry pavement. Besides, it is late, there is no one else on the road, and the ramp widens from one to three lanes.
This time however one of the wheels must have hit a dry patch. It least it felt like that. The nose lurched left and the rear started coming out, I think I got up to 45 degrees before the car recovered (with my help), only to start spinning in the opposite direction, again up to 45 degrees the other way, I straightened it out, and it started spinning left. I had a total of 6 violent fishtails like this before it calmed down.
That was scary.
Sometime in the next week or two, the name of this discussion will be changed dropping the "XX" designation.
Now that we have moved to our new platform, we no longer have a requirement to stop and restart discussions after a certain number of posts have occurred. Therefore, this discussion can be regarded as the permanent home for 300M conversation. The "part number" designations on all of our discussions will probably eventually confuse new members, so we will be gradually dropping them from the titles.
We'll also be altering original discussions in the Archives to differentiate between the first and the current.
I just wanted to give you a heads up - and by the way, if you are subscribed to this discussion, a name change will not affect your subscription.
Thanks.

got a new windshield today. yeah, you all read right. a NEW windshield. some rock decided to hit the shield and made a small crack. coudln't stand it and called immediately and had the appt set up for installation at home. the guy came, popped the old one off, and wouldn't you know it, the factory shield had a small leak in the corner seeping into the body! what the heck!!! so much for depending on machines to do what human's can be best!
now that the guy is gone, the windshield is the cleanest i've seen it since the day i BOUGHT the car! no streak, road, wax marks on it!!!! i am not leaving my home this weekend.. wanna at least enjoy the only part of thecar that is CLEAN. LOL.
Glad your alright. I drive just like that when it's dry, howerver, in the rain down here, I'm old fart
Thought I was going to have a nightmare trying to get the price I wanted but I think after the Sales Mgr. saw me walking in the lot prior to opening crunching numbers in a calculator and papers flying
, it all went great.
I went in there with a total 5% profit for him over invoice after rebate deduction and deducting his holdback. His first offer was 1k higher than I was looking for and I told him so. He asked what my price was and I told him. He dropped another 700 and we agreed to $29,112 with prep included. No other charges, no mentioning of financing other than when I asked DC's rate. I told him up front I'm paying cash. No haggling over extended warranties etc. Just a done deal.
Can't wait till Thursday. A little sad though...
have to sell my 91 LSC (only 53k on the clock). It's been great but now with a 2 year old and another kid on the way, 2 carseats in a 2 door just don't work.
So glad to have found you guys/gals and this great list. Will keep you posted. Thanks again for all your help.
Have to look into Zaino now.
Hopefully the 300mclub web site can supplement this service, or someone can recommend another free site to use.

this is the new buzz:

I will post some pics of the after install, soon. Mom is in the hospital so I have been spending a great deal of time there.
The ride is not harsh, its tighter with less float over bumps and humps. My M is sans the PHG, which I really should have opted for in hindsight.....Cost for the install was $275.
I don't think I am the first to use the H&R springs, one of the other folks on here has them too.
Now I have to decide on "how much" I want to do to the current M, since I will want (read need) a "Hemi C" or 300N whatever its going to be called.
ruski - Whoa! Glad you're ok. It rained here in SoCal today and I had a hard time spinning the tires a little for fun...until I took the traction control off.

I hadn't noticed this to much until I had been driving in the downton Chicago area more recently where some streets can be very rutted. At one point I thought she was going to jump the curb. Even while slowly going over bumps they tend to jostle the steering wheel more then usual. The last symptom is, When I let go of the wheel after a turn to let it return straight, it seems sluggish to get back and I end up having to bring it back by hand.
I had a mechaninc friend take it for a drive and he suggested it could be the rack&pinion
I know there is a TSB on clunking or loose steering, could this be it. Does it reference the Rack&Pinion being faulty in the TSB? Or has anybody experience rack&pinion problems?
I knew the steering was stiffer on the PHG when I bought it, but I didn't notice all this pulling around to be so aggresive. I drove a non-phg recently and noticed the smoother ride, but the steering responded ten times better. No road steer, pulling or wheel jostling. I would expect the PHG to be smoother then a standard, not the other way around.
I am going to have it in the dealer soon for the weather stripping replacement. (Stripping was shrunk at 800 miles) and I want to have some good ammo to feed the "soon to be rated my me*" dealer about this steering problem. Please respond..
Luckily I have at least 3 other options of Chrysler 5*'s around me so I'll soon be grading them.

Does anyone know if the M's computer can be reprogrammed to compensate for different size tires ?
just back on 300m after nearly a year. Is fastdriver still around. can email me at larry@larryrivers.com Still driving the 300m and its been great, just had windshield wipers start to stick, thats been the only problem...love the car.

For the 29k price tag, our 01M options included:
17" chrome wheels
Luxury Package
Power moonroof
Side Airbags
Smokers Group
360 watt Infinity with 11 speakers
Any and all fees, charges etc....
MSRP with destination was $33,395.00
NYS tax is a killer at 8.25%
I think we lucked out by talking to the Mgr. (owner also) and not some commission/bonus hungry salesperson. This guy had 28 M's on the lot and had more on the way. I think that some of the cars were past the three month holdback (3% off msrp)
time and they were starting to or costing the dealership money. Anyway, we're real excited about the deal and can't wait til Thursday.
And the topper is my insurance (Allstate) for the M is only $1,388.00 a year with $300,000 liability,
collision, comprehensive and glass. I do get a good price because it's categorized as a "pleasure vehicle" (under 6,000 miles per) and spotless record. Boy, did they categorize that right. We plan on getting a lot of pleasure from the M.
Will post pictures shortly after I pick it up Thursday.
Sounds like a great ride at a good price.
Check out woostrim.com for a great wood dash kit to compliment the Luxury Group trim.
HI!!!! Welcome back! I'm STILL here! LOL... I've only been back here about a month myself. Couldn't stand all the problems with this new site early on. Things seem to be working ok now.
Well, Christine is GONE! Two months early, but I could not take the chance of her reaching 36,000 miles with NO warranty. You know all the crap I went through with those "5-STAR" dealers. She had about 35,500 miles on her when I turned her in. I bought a 2001 Acura CL- Type S. You can see some preliminary pics here-

Since those pics, I have put on two coats of Zaino. You should see that red now! Will post more pics next week if I can. Have a house full of company here from FL. I'm leaving for West Palm Beach myself this Friday. Not much time to get things done. Tomorrow it's supposed to be 70 degrees here, so maybe I can put on coat number 3 and take some pics.
Glad your 300 has no problems considering where you live. Good to see you back here. Still taking those trips with your friends? You know who I mean. ;-))

If your ride is good, & you do not have the PHG, i'm sure the PHG ride is alot stiffer.
Sounds like you got a good deal..over $4,000 off MSRP. I paid about $700 more for mine in San Diego but I also got the PHG and a couple of other things. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of ...Bluebird was it?
-M
would translate to no PHG.
I drove a PHG equiped M before I bought mine, with the H&R springs I still think the PHG is a little stiffer, probably due to the valving in the struts.
