Man that looks awesome! Will this really fit a 300M? Is the Intrepid 3.5L intake setup exactly the same?
  • splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
It should (and they say it does) fit the M since it's the same 3.5L. However, in looking at the two, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but does K&N reuses part of the existing tubing just before the tb keeping more restriction? The treptech replaces everything up to the tb, but there is some comment about a sensor just before the tb that would be removed. Any more info on that? Thanks...
  • cmyers300mcmyers300m Member Posts: 206
After reading the posts on that Trepid website, I think they mention the sensor existing at the TB for the 2002 models only. If that right, I'm okay with my 2001....
  • splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
They mentioned that for the 02 intrepids. Didn't know if there was any difference there between the M and the trep...

I just went ahead and emailed that company PPG and asked them if I can order that chrome aircharger for the 199.00 price for the 300M. If I don't hear from them today, I'll call them. I'll keep everyone here posted as to the outcome.........
  • splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
Looking forward to hearing the response! :)

I wonder if the intrepid's chrome air charger holds a K&N air filter cone or is it some other brand?

The one benefit I can see with the chrome aircharger is you won't have to worry about the filter getting wet from the slits in the wheelwell.

I also wonder if it will be ok with Pennsylvania emmisions. Both the K&N and Chrome airchargers are not "street legal".

The cone filter is made by AC - according to the post:

"I dont have the specific size of the cone, but I will find out. The cone is made by AC. They are re-usable cone filters made with a washable cotton gauze filter (similar to K&N, just less exensive.) To clean the filters you will need K&N's cleaner and re-charging kit. For those of you with K&N filters already, you're ahead of the game"
  • cmyers300mcmyers300m Member Posts: 206
Apparently the filter brand is AC, which I'm not familiar with. According to the Intrepid guy it's comparable to a K&N.

Splatt beat me to the response!!
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
My questions are. How large is the opening for the unit it looks kind of small and might be a restriction in itself. Second the filter housing is pretty close to the filter element it looks to be around a half inch, which would not allow much air to reach the back part of the filter element. I would have liked the filter element container to be a little larger, and connected to the side fender panel to stop taking in hot compartment air. The one piece pipe is excellent.
Sorry for the critical, but I think it could have been done better, IMHO.
  • cmyers300mcmyers300m Member Posts: 206
I just looked at the pics again, don't you think if the filter housing was any bigger that it would affect the hood closing? just a thought.....
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
It's possible that the AC cone is considerably narrower than the K&N....more like a rocket than a bowling ball. ;) Either way, that set-up is positioned perfectly to suck every ounce of hot air out of the engine compartment and into the engine. Some kind of separation from the engine is necessary IMO.

For those of us that already have the K&N, the Treptech should fit through the hole in the K&N heat shield. That being the case, both intakes should be almost identical in function. So the question is "Do I want to spend another $200.00 to get a pretty chrome air intake system?" BTW - I wonder if you can order just the heat shield from K&N?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Seems pretty easy to use the aircharger heat shield as a template to make our own for those that don't have them, wouldn't you think? Of course it would be cardboard. lol!

Thanks for your message found below, and does anyone else have any ideas which may be causing the Front End knocking in my 2000 300M? For details, please see my original 6/23 message. As of today, I believe that these annoying knocks could be caused by:

    1. Steering Rack Problems;
    2. Strut Caps/Mounts Problems; or
    3. Sway Bar hitting the Frame.

Any other suggestions and ideas? I will be taking my car to the Dealer on Thursday. Thanks to all, and I believe that our efforts may help some other owners (and DEALERS) solve this annoying and potentially dangerous problem.

"i have a 2000. i know three of us here have had the strut caps and top plates replaced. As per TSB 02-01-00 one sold his and the other finally got his fixed after going to his 2star with this info.

    2 strut caps part # 5018266AA
    1 strut mount part # 4782018AB
    1 strut mount part # 4782019AC

this is a $150 repair. don't put up with it go get it fixed."
    END

Good thought! Actually, it would probably be pretty easy to do one out of sheet metal too. You would have to get a little creative for the end tabs where the bolts go, but other than that it's just 1 big bend and a hole! Then you could paint it with some good high heat paint and voila! Maybe we could start a little business called "Mike & Glenn Air Intake Heat Shields, Inc. LOL! or it could be called "Mike and Air Glenn Shields for Heat Intake Technologies" and abbreviate it "MAGSHIT"!
  • ajpiiiajpiii Member Posts: 260
You know... Making our own heat shields might not be so bad... We have a cnc machine here at work that I could probably use to cut out some sheetmetal to exact specs... just need the specs...

Well, after careful consideration, soul searching and wallet scraping, I ended up buying an extended warranty from 1source.

5 additional years, 100K total miles, 0 deductible, bumper to bumper including smog, towing and rental for $1549.

Only time will tell if this was the act of genious or an idiot.

I know that having purchased this, my M will run perfectly forever and prove the latter, but I am also convinced that had I not bought it the car would have imploded at 36001 miles.

Will report progress from time to time.

It's cheaper than a transmission...which I've had replaced twice on my wife's Grand Caravan. :)

    I love it!

.......I asked them if their Intrepid aircharger fit my 2001 M. Looks like I got the right answer. Now, the decision of whether or not to trust their design over a K&N aircharger......hmmmmmm

Let me contact them and see if we can get a club discount in exchange for a link or something.

The Intrepid group was given the price 199.00 + 15.00 shipping. I imagine we'll get a similar deal. However, if you get a better deal for club members then I'll have to stop procrastinating and join the club myself! I've only put it off for a year now...........

I picked up my Concorde Limited today! It's Deep Saphire Blue Pearl Coat with Dark Slate Grey interior. The only extras are the 11 speaker stereo and full-size chrome spare.

It's a joy to behold and drive. I haven't really checked out the performance yet and I'll take it easy during break-in. The stereo is better than average...except for the bass, which is flabby and weak.

How long did it actually take to get this car? It seems like MONTHS ago that you posted that you decided to get this car.

A few posts back someone mentioned the procedure for checking to see if their wiring was backwards to their speakers. I guess it was for the high end infinity system cause mine only has two wires going to the speaker, not three. Could incorrect wires also effect the non premium infinity system? My bass stinks.

  • glennbpglennbp Member Posts: 327
All speakers have only 2 wires (except for dual voice coils which the M doesn't use)(1 pos & 1 neg). For the door speakers the wire with the red tracer is positive and the black tracer is negative. For a complete step-by-step check out of your speakers, go to the 300M Enthusiast's Club board. There is an excellent check-out procedure there.
  • videoman1videoman1 Member Posts: 201
I read the instructions when I took out my speaker and it says:

"4. Look carefully at the back of the plug, you should see a 1 2 3 embossed in the plug above each slot.

If the wires are like this then you need to switch them:
Right door - Opening 1, wire is light blue with red tracer and opening three is light blue with black tracer the wires are reversed.
Left door - Opening 1, wire is light green with violet tracer and opening three is light green with black tracer the wires are reversed.
    "

From reading this, I assume he's talking about 3 wires and not two. Maybe I'm wrong.

Would be interested to know where you bought the extended warranty from. I'm considering buying one.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
You said you get "front end knocking" when do you get it when turning, going stright, stoped and turning the wheel, pushing down on the front fender, or going over bumps? In which cases do you hear the noise?
You mention some part numbers the strut mount part numbers are correct, but the cap numbers I do not have in my 300M part listings. Could the part (cap) numbers be 4616 748 instead?
  • glennbpglennbp Member Posts: 327
The plug is labeled "123", but the #2 position is not used. The 2 wires to the speaker go in slots 1 and 3.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I went to show the dealer the missing parts and the service manager and the tech both told me with a stright face that the strut caps can not be replaced, and had to be destroyed to get at the strut bolts, and since the parts department was closed I could not verify it. So I have a meeting with the general manager (called after I got home) so after I can get all my ammo lined up I am going back. I have the part numbers (thanks to my parts books and files, and all the informatiion to back me up. There is going to be another fire in AZ when I roast him and his tech. It is not the part cost (which is very little, but the principal of the thing. It is a real shame because two of the other service managers are really great, and in the future I now know who to go to.

to chrome my air scoop duct work.
  • videoman1videoman1 Member Posts: 201
I don't have a plug that says 1 2 3. It's just a small plug with the two wires going into it that plugs into the speaker.

I have a '99 300M with non premium infinity system. Maybe that's why it looks different than what you're describing.

If I get a bug up my butt, maybe I'll go get the tool to disconnect the wires from the plug and switch them. This may help the bass like it seems to do with the premium sound system.

I'll be ordering the same wing sdmike has on Big Red this week. I love the styling of that one. Hopefully I can get it by the 4th of July. The neighbor at my parent's cottage works at the body shop of a dealership. He said for a case of beer, he'll install it. He does them all the time.

Also, I'll probably be ordering the Glossy Silver dash kit from Dashes Online. The name sounds much worse than it looks. It's not the shiny tin foil look like you'd think. It actually looks just like the platinum paint of my exterior. Even has the tiny metalic sparkles. And with the thick clear lacquer on top, I think it will look very classy. Almost like pearls. I'll be sure to post photos when it's done.

I think I ordered it in February. Of course the wheels of the US Government move very slowly.

    At least I got it.

BTW, the bass does sound crappy in the 340 Watt Infinity system.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
congrats on the choices. I can't wait to see the pictures. The wing is pretty easy if you take your time. Just please make sure to avoid drilling through the trunk lid from the underside when drilling out the larger bolt head holes in the trunk supporting frame (I built a "stop" out of PVC to help). The hardest part is getting up the stones to drill holes in your trunk. :)

I posted the info. There are only 2 wires, but the plug has openings for 3 wires. Only holes 1 and 3 are used.

Yes, there are numbers embossed in the plug. They are on the back (wire) side of the plug, on the secondary wire retaining clip. You have to look carefully and shine light on the plug to clearly see them.

Don't read into the instructions what isn't there.

Thanks for your message. As stated in my original 6/23 message, these sounds occur after: a) the car has been driven and warmed up; and b) whenever I drive at low speeds (ca. 20 mph) over roads with numerous bumps. They do not occur at any other time (e.g., turnining the car, pushing on fenders,...)

The part numbers are those as quoted in an earlier message to me. According to the some of the messages found at the "Chrysler 300M Enthusiasts Club's" (http://www.300mclub.org/) Message Board (see Problems and Complaints); these symptoms are indicative of Steering Rack Problems.

Any other ideas, and thanks for your help!

The newer M's have a different shock tower parts then the earler ones, something called an isolator part #4782 335AA a picture is on page 002-4 in section 002-110 of the Parts catalog (july 2001)

It was www.1sourceautowarranty.com. No hard sell, professional, explained terms and answered questions.

Got the diamond plan 60/100. If you buy through this saturday, they are throwing in either $95 off or free emission coverage ($195 value which is what I chose).

    I have a 2001 300M with about 15,000 miles on it.

This has been going off and on since I got the car in Jan/01..

Problem: When I make a very hard turn, left or right or do a complete circle turn, it feels as the car is riding on the side of the tires and the car has a wobble effect..I have been to the dealer and they don't have a clue.

Has anyone heard of this or is there a TSB on this somehwhere that I could not find.

    Thanks,

    wbabor

I had a problem of a bad wheel bearing. It started as something similar - though more of a sound like something rubbing against something else. Got worse and worse over about 2k miles. Replaced it, no problems since...

I have the upgraded sterio and there are only two places for wires on my speakers.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I assume that was a rear wheel bearing as the M is front wheel drive-----

does anyone know if the rear wheel bearings need to be cleaned and relubed at some point. I know on other cars I used to have the bearings repacked whenever the nondrive wheels needed brakes. anyone?

    fedlawman-

LOL... That's what I thought! Geez, your car is already a year old! Hope they got a June price for it and not a February price. ;-)) Ah, the wheels of govt. Could never understand WHY they are like that in this day and age of computers. It should have been approved, ordered and then sent to the appropriate dept. to pay for it. Sounds simple to me. Don't know why the govt. has to make a BIG deal out of everything? Is it just to keep so many people employed?

    sdmike2-

Looks like a GREAT site for people to go to BEFORE they go to their "award-winning 5-STAR" dealers for service. Be prepared- that's my motto! ;-))

May I know why you pick 1source? I know you had done some investigations already. As compared with Chrysler extended warranty, do you expect to get any hazzle handling payments?
