If DC keeps it up & matches/beats Toyota quality in 5 years, you might actually get hooked into a Hemi or a Crossfire lol. "... might keep (the 7/100K) permanently"? Sounds ok to me.

It was nice meeting you guys today. Too bad I hade a date (well, not really or I'd HAVE to buy the flowers!). I will keep a lookout for the wood shift knob. Take care and Happy "M"ing!

do our M's require a 4 wheel alignment like most front wheel drive cars or just the 2 wheel---did they torue your lug bolts as recommended to 100 lbs?

My tires are on the way. I may hold off a few months installing them as my good yrs still have some meat on them---but it may be too tempting looking at those v-rated Yokos sitting in my garage.

Whats the best way to store tires? I am guessing flat on their sides. Is stacking ok?

on tirerack you can find reviews by tire customers for most tires they sell. They dont sell the 420's but I expect these tires to be very similar to the Avid V rated. Here are the reviews for these tires. I would say about 90% of the purchasers of this tire were very satisfied with them. The other 10% or so had various complaints. Note the type of cars they were mounted on--from Lexus, to Chevelle, to Maximas to Mercedes. And many claim to drive aggressively. The biggest complaint by some was tire wear. But if you drive aggesively by taking corners at high speed you should expect quick wear. I had them on a Mark VIII and wasnt an overly aggressive driver and they were wearing just fine. Interesting reading: http://www.tirerack.com/survey/SurveyComments.jsp?additionalComments=y&tireMake=Yokohama&tireModel=Avid+V4

I am currently having severe email issues, so if anyone has tried to email me this evening I probably didn't get the message. Sorry about that.

yes it's a 4 wheel alignment, i helped the guy do it...and they torqued them. laying them stacked flat is fine.

Mmmm... now that WOULD be a MIRACLE! Only problem, those "5-STAR" dealers would have to become "25-STAR" dealers to EVER get me back behind the wheel of a DC product.

This should eliminate the wind noise. Now, if they could build something to eliminate the road noise, that would be two problems solved. ;-))

Got the lights in. Hardly a problem ;) The wire tap didn't cut through one of the leads all the way, so when I turned it on didn't work first time. Other than that, was a snap. There is a plug in the wheel well - I found running the wire to there, then on to the hole (sort of as a staging area) worked better. Shorter run.

Looks nice - now I just have to figure out where to put the logo; if at all ;)

If you don't need one of your logos send it to me for my trailer hitch. :)

I hope it doesn't take the Gov. PO system as long to approve your emergency lights as it did to approve the car! Enjoy the new car.

At 26K the Pilots on my 2k look like they will go another 10k, at least. And I drive in brutal summer heat and rough city streets. At the Pilot price, they better be outstanding!

A while back I said I may try cutting out my rear deck mat to access and install new 6x9's. Well, I put my money where my mouth is and did it. It was far easier than I thought and looks great! I took pics of the process and you can follow the whole swap out here:

glennbp - nice pics. Looks good!

Chrysler logos - well now that I'm doing the shaving thing already (though the 300M logos now have new tape on the back ready to reinstall ;) I am considering shaving the chrysler letters off the door. Since the 02's already come that way... If you don't mind letting me know, drop a vote off here...

an old timer in Maine has invented a replacement air filter that he claims can give a huge boost in gas mileage--he has already sold over 100 and is being backed to go into mass production: here is the story in the local newspaper: http://boston.com/dailyglobe2/180/metro/Vroom_to_let+.shtml
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
my question is whether it properly filters the air going to the engine--I'll bet he gets a huge increase in air flow at the expense of possibly letting more contaminants into the engine---the guys 81 yrs old so he probably just wants one big hit to leave some money to his family...but is it really safe for your car?

I know this was probably already posted, but ....

I'm installing new Infinity 6-1/2" door speakers in my 2000 300M. The factory speaker connection (on the driver's side) consists of a 2-conductor plug, one wire green with black tracer, one wire green with blue tracer.

Which is positive?? There are no polarity markings I can see on the speaker or connector.

    Thanks!

    easyrider300m-

Don't underestimate those old timers! I guess time will tell. At least they're a little more GROUNDED than some current left coast Supreme Court Justices! ;-)))))))))

Hey all , a local Toronto paper is running a vote to pick the best performance sedan, so all you great 300 lovers go to this site and vote for the 300 special. There is a prize but you have to be Canadian , but just voting for the M is prixe enough.

Voted a couple of times ;)
  • glennbpglennbp Member Posts: 327
Regardless of the wire color, the one with the red tracer (stripe) is positive. The black tracer is negative. Hook up your new speakers this way and you will have no problems.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
    The BMW of course-----
--- NOT----The M will win cause no other forum is going to promote that poll and I voted 3 times--the fix in IN!--any hanging chads?

I figured that was the case, but just wanted to be certain.

I fixed the speaker wiring polarity on my front door woofers today & it makes a real difference (Infinity II system in 2001 M). It was OK before, but now has much better soundstage and better bass definition. I cannot believe that such an audio basic as speaker phase-wiring could be mucked-up this way. Makes me wonder now if some of the poor audio systems in my previous cars could have been victims of this problem.

Our tech removed the emergency equipment from my old car before it was turned in last December. It's all sitting in a box by my desk.

So I'm out late yesterday afternoon putting a coat of Z-2 on "Beast". My son's car is parked next to mine so I use his trunk lid to store the Zaino and stuff ; leaning the Z-2 up against his spoiler so it doesn't fall off. My wife and former sweetheart calls me and and asks for some help with something in the back yard. Of course I have to help her if I expect to get supper that night. About 10 minutes later I'm back to "Beast" only too find that my son's car is gone.
Along with my Z-2, my applicator, my cotton buffing towel and my sunglasses. I get in the car and drive down the street and up ahead I can see the bottle of Z-2 on the road. I get out of the car to retrieve it and it was road kill. There was a 15 ft. squirt of Zaino spread across the road. Next time it rains I guess I'll have to check to see if that section of the asphalt is beading water. A few hundred feet up the road I find my sun glasses. You guessed it. In a thousand pieces. They were prescription too so that gonna cost me a couple hundred bucks. Never found the applicator or towel.
This has been a bad week. Our power went off for six hours the other night so we couldn't watch T.V. or read so I had to have sex with the wife. I know what your thinking but Al Bundy
    is my idol :)

I think I asked you this before but dont recall your answer.

I am thinking of doing dual exhaust and would like to know which parts of the present system are made of stainless steel. Are the pipes and all 3 mufflers stainless. How bout the cats?

    Thanks
    EZ
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
As far as I know the whole system is SS.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
does that apply to year 2000 M as well---I thought at least the rear muffler was NOT stainless---

disc cover: I know there ad states it wont affect heat dissipation, but I dont believe it. I would think your brakes would run much hotter and therefore may warp.

They look nice and probably help cut down on brake dust.
  • glennbpglennbp Member Posts: 327
They could very well help heat dissipation by acting as a heat sink since they are made of aluminum. Just depends on how they are attached, etc.

LOL! Here in Dallas it would be too hot for such activity if the AC went off. ;>)

Bummer about your Z-2 and prescription glasses. I remember when I was single I was so excited about scoring an ironing board for $3 that I jumped in my company car after loading it in my trunk and backed over my new $300 briefcase with gold-plated hardware. Smashed to smithereens! Doh! More recently a guy at a red light pointed to the roof and made a phone mimic with his hand. You guessed it. I was driving around with my cell phone on the roof! Doh! Time for more Ginko Biloba. :>)

    Happy Canada Day!

I was on my way back to Phoenix from Dallas the other day, near the Pima county fairgrounds in the left lane with the cruise control at 80. I'm not sure how it was I had no time to dodge it, but there it was in the middle of my lane. It looked like a cinder block. I hit it with a sickening "Bang!" The right front of the car lifted a bit, and I saw a trail of blue smoke pouring out from behind the car. (Ohmygawd! I've been hit and I'm going down!) The guy in the right lane kept slowing down with me, and by the time I figured he wasn't going to pass me I was down to about 30 and the smoke was really bad. When the right side tires went off the shoulder, it had enough clearance to drop behind me.

It turned out to be a big hunk of timber, about 6x6x18 inches. It was taller on one end than the other, and since I hit the short end, it acted as a bit of a wedge lifting the car. The smoke was from the wood, which didn't manage to catch fire. I somehow hit it squarely on the frame and there is no damage whatsoever to the beloved M. What a thrill.

Other than that, the trip was fairly uneventful. On Tuesday, the smoke was so bad in southern NM visibility was about two miles. I'm guessing this was from the Rodeo/Chedeski fires here in AZ. Each leg of the trip was 1050 miles, completed in 14 hours. No numb butt. But I need to get the car washed, as it has about 80 pounds of bug guts on it.

Has silverbullet4 (or any other Dallas M'er) mentioned there are 300M taxis in that neighborhood? One was a couple cars ahead of me one evening returning to the Reunion Hyatt. And I'll vouch for the "Dallas is too hot" thing. I'll take 114 in Phoenix over 95 in Dallas any day. I think I lost about 10 pounds Friday standing in line for the roller coasters at Six Flags. I managed to ride them all before it rained. The Titan pulls some serious g's!

After reading Wire2's post about the speaker wires, I decided to check mine out. The passenger side is fine, however, the driver's side is backwards. I now have to take the wires out of the clip to switch them. How is this done? Do I need a special tool? Would it be simpler to just cut the wires and switch them that way?

  • jona57jona57 Member Posts: 194
    vman

There are descriptions of this issue in prior posts here as well as on the 300Mclub.org web site message boards. To answer your question directly, a special tool is made for changing these wires in the stock connectors, but a small jeweler's screwdriver can be used instead IF you are very careful.

While cleaning up Francesca today, I began to notice how much I didn't like that "gray urethane" front grill. I've seen pics of the billet grill and I'm not crazy about it either. I then did some research and found out that the grill can be painted any color IF you use an adhesion promoter and a primer made specifically for automotive plastics and urethanes. Just so happens that the Urethane Supply Company sells all that stuff. So, I'm thinking of painting the front grillwork a high gloss black like on the window pillars and side mirrors. I believe it would match up well with the overall color scheme particularly since my M is silver with slate interior. I even played around for a few minutes taping up the area around the grill and found it to be very easy to isolate the wing and the chrome trim. The rest would be covering the car in plastic. Overall, it would be an easy and relatively inexpensive mod. What do you all think?
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Glad to hear your M came out ok. My car is probably low enough to just push it.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
It sounds like an idea. I like chrome myself, but the bullet grill is a little too much.
