did you go back and give it another couple of coats to give it a really hi gloss???????? :) Don't forget to get one of those signs that states who takes care of that streach of road.

Painting the grill sounds like a great idea. I too don't like the grey colour on the grill. Would this be a spray paint? I'd like to see a grill painted bright yellow on and inferno red M . Maybe we could talk Sdmike into trying this with BigRed before I did Beast :)
  • uxca300muxca300m Member Posts: 155
I didn't but maybe I'll go out to-morrow and tune it up with a coat of Z-6.

Hey, I was the guinea pig with the trailer hitch...YOU get to try the grill paint on Beast. ;)

    wow - it's almost scary -
I thought of the exact same mod Sunday morning (what are the odds???) after staring at the grill Saturday night and wondering about the possibility of having *no* grill opening - like the Boyd-Coddington M - (I was also fantasizing about blacking out the headlights - all the "silver", except for 4 ovals -- heh - sheesh, I must be bored ;/ ). Anyway, since Sunday morn, it's become this week's thing to obsess over. Now that it's in my head, the gray just doesn't look like it belongs there anymore. Fun! :)

p.s. the duals are great - thx everyone for the input :)
  • toms99toms99 Member Posts: 252
The grill is easily removed from the front fascia and so can be painted without having to mask the front of the car.

But I think "yellow" would be too "R _ CE" for my tastes...although, as we all know:

    yellow = performance

    :-)
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
would go well with silver--probably just satin black would be fine----
    tom---can I buy a vowel---does it go with Uncle Ben---can I say that?
  • uxca300muxca300m Member Posts: 155
I wouldn't paint mine yellow. I was just trying to talk sdmike into doing his on BigRed to see what it would look like but he has declined. I think mikeyjohn has an inferno red. Hmmm. Maybe I can talk him into it :)
  • uxca300muxca300m Member Posts: 155
I downloaded your mpg of Big Reds dual exhaust. Sound awesome. I have to get mine done but am having trouble with the muffler shops. There scared to cut into the bumper so I guess I'll have to do it myself. Can anybody spell "saws-all"

P.S. Why'd tho black out the license plated on the mpg. We all know what it is:)
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
to put this into a paint program and then we can see what mike's car would look like with a yellow grill, a red grill , and a black grill---or maybe even a high gloss silver grill---

and try the program on a silver M too--with a black grill or a silver grill---
  • jab02lhsjab02lhs Member Posts: 122
I was looking thru you foto gallery at the pics of launch of the LHS in 98 and thought at the time that some of the pic showed either a brite silver or chrome grille liked it better than the one they are using.

There ain't no way I am going to to any painting on my M.I like my car the way it is. The only mods I have done is removing the Chrysler lettering, adding the Joshua woodtrim and when they come in, adding the side markers.

I ran into a guy at Costco on Saturday who had a 02 M, inferno red with sandstone interior. His windshield was cracked and somebody had run into the drivers door. I told him about this site and he wrote it down, so hope he signs up on this and the club. He got this car in March.

Why would anybody want to paint their grills!!!! UGULY!!!!! IMHO.

I want all you folks, to go outside and hoist your favourite beverage and sing OH CANADA over your M's.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANADA!!!!!

And a nice touch with the flag, otto!

    It's next month already!
Release date on the Brampton Holiday Inn Select is JULY 18th!
Release date for the Hampton Inn, Dearborn is AUGUST 15th.
So far it's shaping up to be the biggest 300M club meet ever. Don't miss out!
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
DON'T MISS OUT! This is going to be the 300M Enthusiasts Club event of the year. Start lining up those baby sitters and getting the M Zainoed. It's just over six weeks away.

We'll be doing a 300M convoy from Detroit to Brampton on Sunday August 18th in preparation for the plant tour on Monday.

Let Russ know you're coming and get your reservations lined up. We have some pretty decent rate discounts at the hotels.

There will be judged events with trophies, door prizes, and a great time for all.

Non-members are also invited. We know once you get involved, you'll want to join up. Don't be shy. Check out all the details at http://www.300mclub.org/rendezvous3.htm.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
One of our "associates" has developed some headlight and tail light blackout appliques, and will be previewing them at the Detroit meet. They will cover the silver portion of the headlight housing, leaving just two ovals for the headlight openings. The tail light appliques will be similar, leaving just the actual lenses exposed. They will be available in factory match colors.

Word is he's also working on some molded surrounds for the exhaust cutouts for those of us who have done the Hujo dual exhaust mod. Hopefully they will be available for viewing at Detroit too.

I just ordered a set Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 245/50/17 from Sears. They by far had the best price (all tires are currently on sale there) at $202 each. With balancing, road hazard and mounting etc. it's going to run $1,040 (ouch). I spent a lot of time checking reviews etc. and this was the one tire that had really good things to say about it, and most importantly, good tread wear. Since my last set of Kumho's were $650 out the door and only lasted a year I (and the stock Goodyears before that were gone by 29K) I figure if I get 3 years out of them I'll come out ahead. They should be on my car by Friday.

Tire Rack wanted $218 and Discount Tire $233. Costco couldn't even pull up that size, but the 245's were $216. So if anyone's looking for the Michelins check out Sears before the sale is over. They had Pilot XGT's in the same size for $186. They also claim within 2 months of purchase you see the price lower they'll give the difference back.

Who'd want to black out those beautiful headlights on the M? That's actually one of my favorite features on the M. No car has anything similar. They remind me of cat eyes and are very aggressive IMO.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The exhaust surrounds sound interesting, but would not be interested in the Head lamp overlays. I like the chrome myself. It would make the M look like an older Intregra.
No new news on the HID conversion systems yet? If you could post the lighting site, I would like to contact them too.
My M and I will not be able to make it to the meet :( , but will be there in spirit.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I like them too. But a lot of cars have very simular lamps. 2002 RSX, Camery, ES300, it is becoming very popular.

Roger-- I would appreciate it if you would be so kind as to bring a fascia template for me to the Cruise, so I can get the bozos down here to cut it out properly for the duals. I don't trust what I have printed out before off the net. My luck would be a 10% size error factor and a mis-matched cut. I know you had a template at one time. If you still have one bring a copy for me.If it was not you, then maybe someone else attending could bring one?

Package went out to you at 1:30 today. Should be there in 3 days.

Also put in a special order for a nice surprise item for those who make it to the cruise. I used an ordering figure of 20, and I hope we get that many.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I didn't black out the plate in the video. The shareware video capture program did that to me (their way of trying to convince me to buy the full version)
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
Not with the tapered/eye-like sides -- they all have rounded corners on the outside. The Acura has them in a reverse fashion.
  • muskateer3muskateer3 Member Posts: 103
I know this has been posted in the past, but I am looking for a source for these for my 2000 M.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
There are lots and lots of on-line sources for chrome tips. All depends on which one's you're looking for.

Wait til you see the headlight and taillight covers on a Deep Slate M. You're gonna drool.

My very first car was a 1962 Chrysler Newport that I got from my father who bought it new in '62. Now that car had those slanted cat's eye headlights...talk about unique!

I also like the headlights just the way they are...especially on the LHS. Supposedly, the LHS has the projector optics/reflectors that can be used with true HID lamps.

And as far as the tail-lights go, I think Avalanche (Osman) used body color paint to put oval cut-outs on his tail-lights. I didn't care for the look too much....

300michael, this was posted on the 300mclub message board - follow this link for info - http://www.valeosylvania.com/newsdetail.asp?ID=45

However, it was reported that retail is $900 each and chryslerdirect was $660. ouch!

Some of us are going to the All Chrysler Nationals at Carlisle, PA on July 13th and 14th to show off our Ms against the many older and more classic Mopars we're likely to see, and probably some new classics too. For example, the PT Cruiser Club has made this event their east coast event, so I expect to see a lot of cool new Mopars.

This should get us warmed up for the Dream Cruise at Detroit!

    Check it out.

For the 16" Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires I paid only $180 mounted and balanced each. You're price sounds high, but then again that could be a West Coast/East Coast difference. :(
  • valhsvalhs Member Posts: 63
Man I take a vacation and I get blasted for saying faux wood blows. Let me re-phrase that:

Chrysler factory, my son could do better with a crayola, obnoxious grain, simulated Zebra wood, glossy plastic, 1960-ish, overdone, over powering, why is it there, faux wood blows.

That's what I really meant to say.
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
I checked a lot of places -- even discount tire throughout the state of CA and that was the best price. I have 17"'s which jump up the price quite a bit -- plus I got the wider uncommon size 245/50's so that's probably why they are higher. They even charge more for mounting/balancing when you jump up to 17" -- $9.50 each for 16" and below -- $13.50 each for 17"s. Where'd you get yours? If I can find the same price here Sears will give me back the difference.

How do you like them and how are they wearing?
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
I'd consider the taillight covers on my slate M....but I'd never get rid of those wicked eyes.
  • glennbpglennbp Member Posts: 327
Does anyone actually have a pic of what these look like or will look like?
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
There's not much to cover that doesn't emit light on either style of taillights. Do they cover the reflective edges? I don't think it's a good idea to cover the actual rear reflectors on vehicles, which for us are built into the bottom of our taillights.

Covering the headlights will result in a look similar to the new Mercedes C-class. An improvement over the older C-class, but not as good as stock 300M.

I got the tires at a local Merchant's Tire and Auto. I have almost 6K on them and they look and handle great. Noise is about the same as the XGVT's I had from the factory (99 PHP car, hence the 16" wheels). I'm about ready to rotate them for the first time (every 6K). I got 42K on the orignal Michelins and they still had about 3/32 of tred. When you get to 2/32 in VA they flag you upon state inspection, so I replaced them preemptiedly. Probably could have gotten 50K.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
    Here's a sneak preview.

    http://public.fotki.com/rogor2k/300m_headlight_and/

The taillight covers shown are for the pre-2001 style. I'm told both styles will be available.
  • rogor2krogor2k Member Posts: 385
Midnight Moose (www.midnightmoose.com) is the vendor, but they haven't contacted me yet.

I just checked and they still don't show a 9006XS kit available. Maybe there wasn't enought interest to justify it.
  • toms99toms99 Member Posts: 252
I dunno...the tailight covers in the pic look like black electrical tape....The front ones look OK, I guess, but I really don't see the point. The headlights on all of the LH cars are good-looking just the way they are.

What I need are those clear plastic stick-on covers so my headlight lenses don't get scratched!!
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
    Thanks for the information.
As for the covers, they will have to make them fro the newer rear lenses. As for the front they look better then I thought they would, but I still like the stock version better. Besides the stock version gives me a place to add the new turn signals I have been planning (aka 300hemiC) look.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Thanks for the infromation too, but rogor gave me the one I was looking for. The price on the special ones is too high, and besides I do not like the look of them as well as the non special lamps.
  • bigmike5bigmike5 Member Posts: 960
Toms99--Check out Stongard on the net. They have the clear plastic deflector shields for all forward facing lights on the M for $59 a set [when I got mine]. They go on easy and are about 1/8" thick. Also a product I think called Expel is out there that does the same thing.

I want to get rid of my 17" silver razorstars off a 00M, I need you option, do you think there will be more interest if I sold these as eaches rather than a set?...for spares...
I wanted to get some feedback before posting on ebay. Thanks.
  • splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
If it was anything else, I'd say separately, but I think you'll have a better responce as a set, assuming they are in good to great condition.

You could try selling them individually on the 300m club board, and even state that you need to sell at least, say, 3 to do it and see if you get interest. You may. Still think all 4 is the way to go. In either case, post on the 300m club board first with the price you'd accept. It's free ;)
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
Most on the club (already having them) would be probably more interested in eaches, for spares like splatt mentioned.
On E bay, it could go eather way with most probably wanting a complete set. Check out Ebay and check out the wheel listing already on to see how they are doing for ideas.
