I now have 46,000 miles on my 99 300M and expect to replace the battery soon. Can anyone tell me if this is a do it yourself job, or must I take the car to the dealer? I have removed the panel in the wheel well once (just to look), but can't possibly see how you could remove the battery through it. I suspect the air box and stuff above the battery has to be removed to get the battery out?
I agree that the tail light covers if done in body color would be cool. Don't think the head light covers add anything though. I agree that the stock headlights are pretty cool and aggressive looking all by themselves.
pster - Yes you do need to remove the air filter boxes to get to the battery BUT you can take the battery out through the top by pushing in the fender well trim (it gives easily) and then sliding the battery back, then tilting it on its side and bringing it up. Sounds difficult, but it's not. Ottowkr described this process also some posts back.
A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter. "What are you doing?" she asked. "Hunting flies" he responded. "Oh. Killing any?" she asked. "Yep, 3 males, 2 Females," he replied. Intrigued, she asked. "How can you tell?" He responded, "3 were on a beer can, 2 were on the phone."
Those of you that made the club Carlsbad meet... Can any of you guys that got the embroidered brief case (if you're on here) take a picture and send it to me? We're looking into stuff for woodward and I'm trying to get pictures of the stuff we've done so far. Michael...I think you got one for being "Mr. Mod", didn't you?
All of a sudden (last 3 days) when I click on this forum I'm about 200 posts back of current posts. Did something change? Thanks for your reply. Rick Stilp/Geezer300M
Thanks for the info on battery replacement everyone. I have e-mailed Ottowkr as I can't find his post.
FYI, the tires I got with my 300M have been the greatest. Michelin XGT V4 225/60/16's that came with the PHP package. I now have 46,000 miles and I figure I have another 10,000 left before the tread gets anywhere near the treadwear indicator. Best tires I've ever owned. They have worn evenly with no problems. A bit pricey at $128/each, but I plan to replace them with the same.
All - thanks for the input, looks like the best bet is to list separately @ ebay. If someone wants all, they can bid on all 4?:)
RUSKI - I don't think so, pattern is different.
CLPurnell - sent you a message.
Just splurged on 18 X 8.5 Zenetti's. I chose this cuz it looks like the razors -(Hoping my wife doesn't notice - LOl - Really..) I'm happy with the wheel but unhappy with my choice of tires. Avon ZZ1 245 40 18 - Very bad move. Handles really well but sounds like my dog snooring while at speed and a very stiff ride. FYI. It was a great deal but....
I've seen the pro-am as well I posted a bit back, it was nice, but I wasn't overly impressed. It's got the carbon fiber interior, I prefer the wood myself. It's got some pro-am decals on the side and embroidered floor mats (which I didn't see but otherwise not much different. No HID though...
The rear deck speakers are looking nice. Definitely a future project...
Actually it doesn't. It's a silver paint type of finish on the trim, as opposed to the woven CF look of the Special. The big deal of a Pro Am is the set of golf clubs in the trunk.
I can just picture it. Ding Dong, Would the lady of the house like new tires? We have a new tread sented style called Timeless. We are offering a specials (for off roaders) this month on Wild Country, or Deep Woods sented tires for him. Buy a set of four and get a bottle of Skin so Soft. (comes in handy when changing a flat. LOL
Well, ok I'm glad I'm wrong, because I really wasn't impressed with it. The sales rep of course knew nothing - but then again finding one that actually know anything about the cars they are selling is pretty tough...
You're so right! You would think that these folks would care just a little about the products they sell. I can't even begin to count the number of errors made by the guy who sold me my M. I knew about 1000% more than he did about the car and that was before I actually bought it! It seems that $$$ is all that counts. Really embarrassing for these dealers!
Funny you should mention those as I came really close to using them since I have the same style grills on my subs. I chickened out though as I thought they were a bit too rad for the rear deck! They are cool!!!
OK, now I'm curious. I believe someone said that the two rear deck speakers were for bass only (with the stock setup). That means there might be a low pass filter somewhere allowing only bass to be sent to the rear deck. If that is the case, then a 2-way becomes a 1-way in effect. Of course if you have replaced the stock amps with a custom rig then that will not be a problem. Please let us know the results.
This is a Email I just recieved, from Midnightmoose.
Hello,
Yes, we will have the 9006XS HID kits in stock soon after the July 4th holiday. The 9005XS kits for your high beams will also be available then.
In some vehicles, people have been able to use a standard 9006 in place of the 9006XS, but I believe it required some modifications for them to do so. The 9006XS kits will be the same price, or nearly the same price, as the standard 9006 kit though, so you may as well get the one which will fit the best!
If you have any other questions, feel free to email us at support@midnightmoose.com .
Hey, what is the cost? I'm interested in them. These are true HID? I always heard that true HID lights require a step up transformer that needs added the lamp circuit since they require much more amps to luminate. Is that what's in the kit?
Actually in operation the HID's draw LESS amps to operate than halogens. The transformers are needed to give that initial jolt to fire off the arc, like a florescent light. But the initial draw requires a larger fuse in the circuit.
I hope everything in their HID kits are done precisely. Those 9005XS kits could be nasty with no shielding.
Glenn, don't even get me started I've had more stories with idiot sales reps that I can ask for - gah! The guy that sold me my M had no idea what was going on. Unfortunately, I didn't know enough about the M at the time, or I could have saved a bit (didn't want to spend an extra $1k on the chrome wheels, but in the end I like them a LOT more than the standard ones He claimed the standard wheels were 16" (no, duh, that is php for 99/00) and that even to change the wheels they'd have to recalibrate the spedo (gah). Plus others. I found out more here than he ever knew - but I did get a great deal, and only talked to him the day I picked up - did everything over the internet/email/phone
One of my favorites was the Toyota dealer. We went in to look at the prius (the hybrid). I asked about maintenence, since it's a hybrid, and about the cost of some items. Specifically, how long would the battery last and how much to replace. He comes back from the mechanic (?!?!) and says "he said it should last about as long as a regular battery and cost about as much to replace." I'm looking at him with a look of 'no friggen way!' but I let it slide since we weren't very impressed in the test drive. For $20k we wanted a lot more interior stuff (was very scarce inside). I found out later, there is a 10yr/100k mi warranty on the battery separate from the rest of the systems.
Where do these guys learn this stuff? Part of me wants to sell chryslers since I love the cars, but most of the people you'd deal with are idiots anyway, so I imagine it'd get stale pretty soon.
Otto - they hiring anyone in the chrysler office in Malvern, PA?? :-D (I happen to be teaching a class here. Chrysler has most of the third floor and there are several M's always in the lot with dealer tags
ok - first thing in the morning and I can't shutup - oh well...
Well, I guess I had the transformer part right. Sorry. A few years back when HID's were new, I was told that retrofit kits would cost in excess of 1k! I hope that still isn't the case. Anyone have a ballpark figure on what they average in cost now??
The kit will consist of bulbs ballasts, and harnesses. Price is not firm yet, I would like to see if the club could word out something like the other clubs if so the price could be around $314
Yes, I have ordered from both cbrstereo and sounddomain. I have not heard of crockertronic. Sounddomain is excellent; never a problem and very friendly. Cbrstereo has great prices but watch out if you want to return something; they can be a bit disagreeable.
i just ordered from www.onlinecarstereo.com great prices, say they ship next day ups ground, they're in CA...will post results. glenn they had those focals for 199 is that a deal, the price was 35 cheaper than crutchfield for the infinitys
I've heard of sounddomain and I believe they are reputible. A good idea is to check resellerratings.com to see if they are listed. Also, I know there'll be some dissenters, but ebay is often a great place for this type of stuff. I've bought off there w/o much problems. Check the prices, and make sure the seller has a high positive feedback. Also, contact them before the close - make sure they will respond.
HID - does anyone know if the midnight moose kits will have the shields so that it doesn't blast everyone on the road? (not sure the specific part/item names, but you know what I mean) Also, as for pricing, the actual HID headlights from chrysler (the specials) are $640 ea so cymyers, it would be well over $1k. The list is almost $1k each side. However, for about $350 I'd strongly consider it.
One of the best places I have found is good 'ol eBay. There are a lot of vendors selling "brand new" stuff with the "Buy It Now" feature. For example, I got my Focal's for $169.00 plus shipping. They were brand new in the factory packaging. Of course, there are others looking to rip folks off so the bottom line is to be a little careful. I will usually email the seller first and a ask a few questions. Depending on the answers and how fast the seller replies is a good indication if he's on the "up & up".
Thanks for the feedback. I let everyone know how things go with CBRStereo. I think they are also on eBay. I'm expecting my mono amp this week. Crockertronic.com does free shipping on purchases over $99. I think onlinecarstereo.com does the same. On certain items, onlinecarstereo.com was definitely more expensive. I will check out resellerratings.com
i believe the rear deck speakers get some treble, i remember someone here put some bass blockers on them, and 300michael said they are coaxial. will post results weekend after next. can't wait!
client of mine bought a new prius, a commuter when he's not driving his new racing yellow 911 turbo, wow that must be hard to adjust too. anyway i was looking at the sticker, toyota charges 160 for floor mats, 69 for cargo net, 700 for some paint protection bs, all as dealer installed options. what a rip, i agree looks very cheap on the inside.
