I have an 01 w/11 speaker system. I only have a two pronged, two slotted adaptor. Don't know if it's wired correctly since I don't know which is pin 1 ;) However, I will figure it is correct since I haven't had any problems that bothered me, just wanted to be sure...

    SDMike - great website!!

The reasons I picked 1source are as follows:

The cost for the closest comparable plan from Chrysler is $1000 more.

Chrysler is a "Named Component" plan meaning that if it is not listed in the plan, it is not covered. 1source is an exclusionary plan meaning unless it is in the "not covered" list in their agreement, it's covered.

Chrysler starts the extended warranty from the original in-service date of the vehicle, not when you buy the warranty. Therefore the first 3 years are a freebie for them as the normal warranty is in force anyway.

The maximum duration they offer is 7 years from the in-service date whereas I got 5 in addition to the regular warranty for a total of 8.

I am not limited to just Chrysler dealers for service. Damage from overheating is covered, macphersen struts are covered, batteries, emissions, seals and gaskets...etc.

Looked at various websites that "rate" extended warranties and they consistently came out on top.

    Hope this helps.

just ordered a set of these from tirerack, i have 50k on a set of bridgestones with UNI-T AQII on my ram and plenty of tread left. my stock michelin xgt v4's are down to the tread bars with only 18k. it was a toss up between the yokohama avid v4 and these, so i stuck with a brand i know. they are H rated not V but i'm not going to be taking my 00' php m to the limits anyway and thought i should get a better ride with the H's. we'll see.

I dont see the stock 17 size being made----and I dont think Yokohama V-rated come in stock sizes either--just the T rated. What price did you pay.
  • videoman1videoman1 Member Posts: 201
What size wheels do you have? 16 inch? It seems that they don't have those tires in 225/55-17 size for my 300M. Bummer.

    What price did you pay?

Also, a question for all. I have the original Goodyear LS tires now but two should be replaced soon. Would it be ok to run two brands of tires? Say two new Yokohama tires on the back and the two semi decent Goodyears on the front?

lol.....I guess it was a race on the keyboard and you beat me.
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
oh yeah i keep forgetting i'm the only one here with the original php chrome minivan wheels. yes they are 225-60-16 but i only had to pay $94 each. Easy i was really tempted by the yoko's but liked the tread pattern better on these. the yoko's are only $75 each. i like my 16's they're economically friendly :)

    To all

What is the average amount of mileage you getting on a set of tires (17"s)?
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
and do a 5 tire rotation---I have maybe 10k left but will upgrade to Yoko Avid T rated tires in another 5K---those Bridgestones look nice too and are reasonable but not available in original 17 inch size for my 2000M---

looking forward to a quieter better handling tire than the badyears.
  • muskateer3muskateer3 Member Posts: 103
    Noticed any premature sidewall wear?

Also, what pressure are you running?
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I rotate my tires every 6K ---the fronts will tend to wear on the edges a little faster than the rears--but if you keep rotating them its not too bad---I run mine at 34 pds and find that best for handling and wear..

Thank you very much. This helps.

the v-rated yokohamas sold at discount tire come in the stock 17" size for our Ms.
  • muskateer3muskateer3 Member Posts: 103
These are the ones I have my eye on.

$99 each in SoCal at Americas tire
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
You didn't provide a link at first glance, but Americas Tire and Discount Tire are the same company. The YK420 is under $100 per tire, and while I haven't read MUCH about it, what I have read say it's pretty good.

I didn't see any numbers on the plug of my '01 so I checked in a 2000 schematics book and found that when holding the left front speaker plug so the holes face me, and the shark fin retainer tab is down, the left wire is #1 and should hold a light green/violet tracer, and the right wire,#2, is light green/black tracer.
The right front door shows #1 as light blue/black tracer, #2 is light blue/red tracer.

Muskateer, thank you for your info. 1source looks like a good one.
Anybody has experience with 1source? Good & bad?

Just checked out you Vegas Auto Show pic's. Best pictures of the Hemi-C I have seen to date. Do you mind if I add to my webshots screensavers?

Or,are they copyrighted and property of DC? lol

Keep up the good work, you sure do keep it interesting! Beats the hell out of watching summer reruns.

cant get into their site when I tried a search--what is the correct link
  • kosh_2258kosh_2258 Member Posts: 338
Maybe there has been a change made to the plugs from past years in 02. (My 2000 Jeep GC FSM shows the same plug, however.)

The 2002 FSM shows a 3 cavity plug, but says the wires should be in cavities 1 and 2, when in reality cavities 1 and 3 are what's used.

But the rule Wire2 states is still correct. With the end of plug facing you, index ridge pointing up, and the locking tab (shark fin tab) down, cavity 1 is the one on the left and 3 is on the right.

I think you mean the San Diego Auto Show, and if so, no problem using the pictures. If you make any money off them I get 3/4 of the profits. lol
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
If you go to http://www.discounttire.com you can get to information on the tire. What's nice is that they'll also show what other sizes (other than stock) will fit the car. It doesn't look like you can order from the site, but maybe you can call the closest discount tire and have them shipped to you on a credit card.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
I just noticed that the price listed for San Diego is $129, but the price listed for Sacramento is $85 (they're on special). So, if you're gonna try to have them shipped make sure to check around at different stores because the prices vary. They're $99 in the LA Metro area, and $114 in COlumbus. lol
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
good price--looks like a nice tire---expecially for wet roads---unfortunately no discount tire in MA and they dont show them on discount tire direct site---

do they include free mounting and balancing at the sacramento store--its says something about free balancing on the site?---I may see if they will ship them to MA---great price $85 is a steel for a v rated yoko--maybe I will be installing new tires earlier than I thought---the goodyears are starting to get slippery even though I still have a fair amount of tread left---definitely have to replace before next winter!

Whats a matter , Mike---you didnt like my email?
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
You must have missed the smiley face in it. lol

Hey...I have a good friend in Sacramento that might be willing to put 4 tires in a box and ship them to you if there's something in it for him. The operative word is "might"....shipping tires has got to be a pain in the rump. Even if the tire place charged you $50 for shipping it's still a great deal...especially if they don't charge you tax.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I saw that smiley but didnt understand the comment--see what I get for trying to be nice..... ;-)

funny you found the same Sacramento site---I was looking at the retail outlets since they dont carry the YK420 at discountdirect. I just clicked on CAlifornia and then picked what I thought would be a large city. I clicked on Sacramento and saw that $85 price and I thought- oh only $5 less than tirerack (they have the Avid). But this looks like a much better tire ---longer warranty (65k), better tread pattern for wet weather, higher load rating, and probably higher inflation pressure capable, and its V rated as opposed to avid T rated--so you can use them at higher speeds and they would probably handle better around curves due to stiffer sidewalls.

I sure wish they were near me as they also mount and balance them for free. Also free flat repair and valve stems. Such a deal

I also noticed higher prices at all the other dealers. I saw prices as high as $129 for the same tire that Sacramento sells for $85. I want em. I dont understand why the mail order outlet for Discount Tire doesnt sell them.

I am gonna call them today and see if they will ship them to me. I doubt it but its worth a try-eh.

I have 35+K miles on my 2000M. I believe the antifreeze was orange originally. Now it seems like a muddy color--almost brown. Can you guys with the 2000 M check the color of your antifreeze and see if it has gotten darker with age. Let me know what your mileage is too.

Has anyone changed their antifreeze yet. It doesnt call for a change till 100K but that seems too long to me. I would think the corrosion resistance would dissipate well before then. I had planned on changing it by 50K but may do it sooner now. Or maybe dealer will cover under warranty due to color change.
  • bigmike5bigmike5 Member Posts: 960
I changed out the badyears that were stock on my 99M at 40K. I had a 5 tire rotation going tho. Changed with plenty of tread life left but had two tires [at least] with bad belts according to the dealers tech who took a ride with me. They gave me a low speed wobble but were fine at 60-80mph. I got sick of the wobble and the loud road noise.

I changed the anti-freeze at 2 years per the 99 owner's book maintenance schedule, and found out after they drained it that it actually had 100K stuff in the system. Dealer split the cost of the replacement fluid cause they said they should have noticed what was in the radiator before the opened the drain plug. It was about $36 to change the fluid as that 100K stuff is slightly more expensive than the older stuff.

tires--If you want to go bigger on the 17 x 7 rims there is very little product out there. I have gone to Goodrich Comp TAs in H rating, size 245/50-17. Like the look and the cornering but have had a problem with one of them losing air [tire place says there was corrosion on the rim bead of the Razorstar--we will see on that, I need to check pressure on it this weekend as it is in the spare well right now] and a brand new tire from the spare was going on the front in a 5K rotation and the tire guys said it was out of round and they ordered me a new one [can't no one here make good tires?]. I can definitely feel the bobble at 50-60mph. In summary, would I go with the Comp TAs again? Probably not. I think I would eat the other $40 and go with Pilots.
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
Yes they do list different prices for tires in different locations, but remember they claim they will beat any price. I have a coworker (who is a outstanding salesman -- so that may be the key) who just bought a set of Michelin Pilots for his 540i about $80/each cheaper than local Discount Tires were selling them for. He went on the internet and printed out the price from the cheapest DT location he could find in CA and showed it to them. They matched the price.

I'm needing to buy new tires real soon myself and I plan to try this tactic--although I'm not the best negotiator.
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I called the Sacramento Discount Tire store (I have no stores in my state) and they are running an $85 per tire price on the Yoko 420. I saw them as high as $139 at other discount tire stores. They said they can have their warehouse ship directly to me for $71--the UPS fee. If I can get them closer for same base price, I could get them shipped in for probably about $35 less. I called a Michigan store and he may do it for the same base price and ship from Michigan. He's gonna call me back and let me know.

Be aware--some stores and warehouses are out of stock presently and there is a delay. Not sure how long it would take but I am in no rush--I still have about 10K left on my Goodyears.

This is a great deal for V rated yokos. The web site tells me it has a 65K tread wear warranty but the stores state much less--like 30k to 45k. Go figure.

That tire has been around for about a year and a half. The tread looks very similar to the avid design but supposedly the grooves are better for wet handling. The thing I like is that these are V rated for less money than the T rated avids. Such a deal.

Even with the $71 shipping, I will probably buy these tires. This is a fantastic price on a great tire.

I called the local Sears and he doesnt even show a listing in his catalog. I think this tire is made only for Discount Tire stores.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
That's still only about $100 per tire, which is about $25 cheaper than I can get them AT Discount Tire here in San Diego. Maybe I should just call Sacramento and have them shipped here too when I need them. lol
  • blondablonda Member Posts: 542
I'm still trying to decide what tires I'm going to buy. I currently have 245/45/17 Kumho Ecsta Supra's and like them for the most part, but even though they aren't that expensive ($105 each) I can't afford to buy tires every year. I bought them a year ago may and I'm down to the wear bars on all 4 already. At that rate I might as well buy $200 Michelins if they will last me 3 years.

I'd go with the Yokos in a heartbeat if they had a wider size that fit. I really like the looks of the 245's. We are on our 2nd set of Yoko Supper Diggers on our 4x4 and Yoko's are great tires for a lower price.

Ideally I'd like to buy 245/55's but not a big selection that will fit the rim width. Those Goodrich Scorchers (with the colored tread) come in that size but the tread is sort of strange -- although I see they now come with the tread stripe in "black" (what a novel idea). Didn't someone post that they had those on their M awhile back? (maybe it was on a different board)

    Greetings, 300Msters:

My 36th and final payment at 0% financing is winging its way to Chrysler Financial. So, I own it! I was very pleased to get 0% 3 years ago, it was a deal! Now, everywhere you look 0% for 3,4,5 years!

1500 miles out of warranty, thought another window motor had gone and was getting ready to fight with my ?* dealer, but the window was merely "stuck." Other than that, all continues to be well. Still have the OEM Goodyears with (thankfully) none of the issues widely reported with '99s. I, too, will probably replace them soon as the outer edges are looking a bit smooth. Four tire rotation as I have a donut in the trunk...and I do look forward to a hopefully quieter ride.

I plan to keep this beauty for at least another 18 months (unless EMC & ORCL return to Y2K pricing levels...NOT BLOODY LIKELY! :-(( ), giving Chrysler a chance to knock me out with their next offering as they did in late '98 with the M. 3 years later and still as good looking (although now fairly common, at least here in the Boston area)as when we first met...!

This continues to be a fun, civil, informative board. I enjoy reading almost every day (must get a life... Too late. Married!). Wonderful car, my only ongoing misgiving is the (much) less than Toyota/Honda-like build quality. This is not to say anything has fallen off or is leaking, just some wildly divergent panel gaps. Only issues have been the standard ones: Two window motors and the input speed sensor. Did get the "light show" one day earlier this year, but it hasn't happened since (or prior, either).

Hello to fellow New Englanders fastdriver and easyrider300m.

Now to check the mailbox for the title!

    Enjoy your Ms!

What's up with the message times lately? For example, # 18533 is posted 6/27 @ 1:06 p.m. That's almost 3 hours from now!

Are we all on EDT now?

I am not positive but dont they give you free mounting and balancing if you buy them locally? If you do want to have them shipped I think they would come out of Nevada if you order through the Sacramento store--so shipping to you would be maybe $30 or so--$40 less than mine being on the east coast. I am waiting to hear if Michigan will match the base price and then I will be placing my order. I cant see them keeping that special price very long. This tire looks exactly like the Avid T-rated but this is a V rated tire for less money----they claim the grooves are slightly different--but they sure look the same--to a comparison of the Avid tread pattern on tirerack site with the 420 pattern on the discount tire site--looks awful close-

The V rated would have a stiffer sidewall so you would not get as much rollover affect that some users have noticed on the t rated avids. And its a higher speed tire. Such a deal!
  • easyrider300measyrider300m Member Posts: 1,116
I bet they would match the price at your local discount tire store. Doesnt hurt to ask. But I dont think this special will last very long.
  • guesswho1guesswho1 Member Posts: 209
heck of a deal 17's for the price of 16's, i don't see the 420 on the yoko site? i saw them on discount the tread pattern is the same as the avids. tirerack already shipped my potenzas should get them tomorrow.

Whats the name of the dealership/service manager your having problems with? I bought my car at Petrie in Scottsdale but have used Lou Grubb on Bell for servicing..so far all has been ok.
    Thanks

So that's where Lou Grubb went -- to Arizona. They were in Poway, CA (Chevrolet) for years. I used to know one of the salesmen. They always had a very good reputation.

I am ordering YOKO 420 from Discount tire in Sacramento---they are shipping at $71 --tires are $85 each---they claim they are only warrantied for 30K as they are v rated--evidently site is wrong stating 65K as another store told me this too--I believe the 30K is correct as I had the avid v rated and they were rated at 30K I believe--performance v rated tires usually have a lower warranty than t or h rated---at $85 each I am not arguing--now I just have to get them mounted---
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
Yeah, for now we are using Eastern time. I'm told that we'll go back to PDT shortly.

I am on the east coast, so I automatically add three hours to whatever timestamp I see. I figure about the time I learn to quit doing that will be when we'll revert to west coast times.

    no complaints here

discount tire has the Michelin XGT Z4 on special in San Diego for $220 including lifetime balancing/stems. Lots more expensive, but a lot more tire. The Pilot A/S V-rated like I have is only a couple dollars cheaper.
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
    I don't think we get a vote though! :)
  • splattsplatt Member Posts: 328
Just a side note ;) I know that through coscto Michellin is running a $60 off 4 tires. Especially considering their price for the MXV4+ - 225/55/17 is $150 - that's a great deal! I only got one, needed it pretty badly, and am waiting on the next sale. They usually have them in Jan and June.
