My neighbor has a "little green clean machine" or something like that made by Bissell. It's about the size of a small shop vac and uses a cleaner/water solution that is applied and sucked back out using a nozzle attachment on the unit (like a steam cleaner). It did a HECK of a job on my wife's van carpets, removing any evidence of 2 years of kid mess (food, dirt, bodily ick, etc.). Here is a link:

Just finished installing my side marker lights. They look nice, and they blink, too!

Try using white vinegar. I've used it for years on leather shoes in the winter and it is good for removing hard water stains.

Of course, try an inconspicuous spot first to make sure it doesn't damage something else.

    Good Luck

My '00 came with 'em. Here's a photo and some data: http://www.btjdesign.com/300m/mirror.html

scotian -- if they moved the mirror drain hole to the door panel, somebody forgot to tell Chrysler that water doesn't run uphill. I would need a syphon to get water from that hole! I would be interested to find out if your new panel has the same hole...my dealer (Dodge) had to order the panel and claims this is the new replacement...

I can't help feeling that my wife's custom clock face on the 2001 would look much better without the Chrysler wings! Has anyone tried to remove them? She says they're fine, but I think she is afraid I'll mess up the clock if I try to remove them...

sibe -- as someone else mentioned, the additional $1,000 rebate is regional and I guess it doesn't apply in your area...sounds like you got a good deal and you're happy -- that's the most important thing! Happy motoring!

The other day I was in a rush to get home and forgot to get gas. 30 miles later, as I was pulling into my driveway, the computer thingy said 0 miles estimated. That was allright - it had enough gas the following morning to get to the gas stationa couple of miles away.
  • ruskiruski Member Posts: 1,566
was coming home today, doing usual 90mph. Spotted a little black sports car, zoomed up to it. It turned out to be the last model RX-7. He spotted me too. When I was about 100 feet behind him I saw a little puff of smoke from his tailpipe and I was not zooming in on his 6 anymore. I sped up too and he could not run away from me. My speedo was past 120mph, touching the bottom, I am not sure how fast we were going. But he never managed to put more distance between us. Eventually he had to exit, so he turned on his emergency flashers to signal the end of the race.

went to the dealer after checking out the rubber around the window. the dealer readily ordered the replacements for them. guys, you may want to check your rubbers, see russ's description of where these are... or he might be able to use a digital image to show you his rubber AROUND his window! i didn't think much of it, until i looked at his and his rubber was flushed with his body. (i know how this sound.. lol)

one of the weather strip on the rear driver seat was shrunk, so they are replacing that also.

update on the rotors: they are going to replace mine as long as i pay for the pads. i thought it was a fair deal. :)

    Thanks, Brent.
T tried drilling holes, as specified, in the mirrors on my wife's 2001 Sebring LXi sedan and...the water didn't drain!
The mirrors appear identical to the '99-'00 300M mirrors, so I don't know what to think.
    Back to the drawing board!

Like I've ever seen road salt before!! Anyway, could it be that the stains aren't really stains at all, but rather areas where the salt has leached the oils out of the rubber and made it oxidize? I would assume that a surface salt stain could easily be removed by water. I would apply silicone (the liquid in a can from Wal-Mart, not the caulk-sealant goop) to the seals and the stain should vanish. I just think they may be dried out. Salt water is pretty harsh on most anything, and I know the rubber seals on a car will be destroyed in no time if the are not oiled frequently, that's why I hit mine with the silicone spray (easiest way is to spray a bit of a rag then wipe down the rubber) all of my weatherstripping and under-hood hoses, as well as all exposed rubber parts monthly. If you do, they'll last forever. If you don't, they'll die an early death!!

I too have noticed salt damage on some of the outside rubber parts around the windows. It wouldn't come off, even after a couple car washes. I put some tire dressing on it, and it seemed to neutralize the salt (at least it returned the rubber to a black color), but you could definitely see damage where the salt had eaten away some of the rubber. Silicone might work too. In Maryland, they go pretty heavy on the salt in winter.

Just put 16.5 gallons in today, about 30-35 miles after the DTE showed 0. That's why I estimate you still have about two gallons left when the DTE goes to 0. This was cutting it a bit closer than I typically care to do.
  • sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
Just filled up my tank and the "miles left" was 290 on the computer. I got around 18.5 mpg on the last tank, which is a lot better than the 16 I was getting. I also drove it a bit harder because I wanted to hear it. :)
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
I wouldn't advise anyone to remove the sticker as it probably would leave a mark of some kind, but I could be wrong...
  • scotianscotian Member Posts: 1,064
Tomorrow I'll get my car washed and see if the mirrors hold as much water as I drive away. I imagine you can drill several holes if you want; just move the mirror up all the way and look inside with a flashlight to see where it's hollow.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
The trip commmputer is going to average your past average to obtain your estamented mileage to empty. If you have just averaged say 30 miles to a gallon, it would show about 500 miles. If your last average was 11 it will be around 180. It does a pretty good job, and continually updates itself.
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I too received my side lights today. I swear it must have been the same mailman who delevered Scotian's clock faces to me. The box was half crushed (I can see why he didn't stick around), but somehow the lights survived the attack. Thank you I may try to modify them to the ones I currently have (rectangle) I do like the way the bulbs are easly changed on the one you sent. Mine did not have replacable bulbs. Oh well another project to do. Thanks a lot!

Here's a photo of the pinstripes the dealer put on before I bought my car (the red stripe below the green one doesn't show up real well in the picture): http://www.btjdesign.com/300m/pinstripesrear.jpg From this point forward they go in a straight line to a point near the front of the car. I'm sure the dealer had added something to the price of the car for the stripes, but I just negotiated with them as if the stripes weren't there, based on the info I had about the car and its factory options.
  • ottowrkrottowrkr Member Posts: 778
Hey Sibe , not sure who gave you this info but it is wrong. The Charger, 300N or what ever they decide to call them will not be available till the 2004 model year. But with a V8 and rear wheel drive I think it may be worth the wait.
  • sleepymwsleepymw Member Posts: 65
is your car new as in 2001? from the pix, looks like the rubber is coming away from the black part of the window. my dealer is replacing mine, and you might want to check the rubber stripping too ....

just a suggestion.. i can be wrong, but looking at the pix, it appears that way.

I don't think the computer resets after each tank. I think it's just your average mileage, since the last time you reset the computer, times how much fuel you have. At a little over 6,000 miles I am averaging 20.6 mpg. I was just wondering how much of an increase in mileage could be gained from the duals. Mike has said he noticed a slight gain in mpg and I was wanting to see what the trip computer showed.

So what is the deal with the gas tank? and the DTE/fuel gauge? I see many have posted that it is an old topic, but I went back about 500 messages and have not really found an answer - when my 2001 says I have 0 left, I can get about 15, 15.4 gallons max in. The fuel light goes on at about 14 gallons left to go. So the car has a 17 gallon tank, why does it tell me I am out at 15 (and estimate miles left to go at last tank average * 15, not 17 as some others have posted...) Is mine being odd, or is this typical??

    Rob
  • pjyoungpjyoung Member Posts: 885
I don't rely on it. I usually am looking for a gas station when the fuel guage hits a quarter tank. My DTE at a quarter tank only shows 40 miles or so. I suppose if it was going to be off, it's better to have a "pessimistic" number rather than an "optimistic" one. I don't think I've ever put more than 15 gallons in at one fillup.

Anyone know whether a 300M's shifter (specifically, the one with the chrome insert) will fit a Sebring LXi Sedan? I've been drooling over that shifter ever since it came out, and I've been grumbling about its demise almost as long. :-(
  • 300michael300michael Member Posts: 1,815
I got about a 10% city driving, and 20% freeway increase in gas mileage. The car is also quicker, the best of both worlds (although not at the same time).
  • fuzzywuzzyfuzzywuzzy Member Posts: 958
I'm not sure your use of the word "rubbers" is alowed on edmunds anymore. I must say, the rubber on my doors are fine. No problems, no shrinking.

    Hiya.

In some people's quest to order european side markers, and they won't ship to the USA...

www.post2post.com will, for 'free,' give you an overseas post office drop, and ship your package to your home here in the US.

It's just nutty enough to work...

With the dual exhausts and K&N filter my "seat of the pants" dyno tells me that we've gained about 5-10 HP, and my computer tells me that I've picked up about 2 MPG city and 4 MPG highway. I'm getting about 2.5 MPG better overall. Oh yeah...and it sounds cool :)

Last night I stomped a 525i from 70 - 120+ before he gave in. Cocky [non-permissible content removed] thought his 180hp Autobahnner could take me. Mwahahaha

So, since installing the H&R springs I have had that nagging vibration under acceleration. I had talked to Steve at H&R who asked that I call him back. I also emailed TireRack last week and had yet to receive a reply. So I called TireRack this morning, talked to some tech who basically said I was a liar as springs could not cause vibrations as they just move up and down. Told him there were no vibrations prior to the install and tires were recently balanced and an alignment was done after the install. His point was an alignment may have been done but that doesn't mean it was right or that an install kit was needed. Told him about others having the same issues with M's, springs and vibes, he claimed he had been doing this for over 8 years and had never heard of springs causing vibes. I assured him that the changes in the drive shaft alignment could and probably was causing the vibrations and was there an install kit for the M. He said no nothing.

Recontacted Steve at H&R, he had heard back from the office in Germany, they have an install kit which will cure the vibes, told him about the problems with TireRack to which he laughed, seems they have had problems with them in the past.

Why post this? Information for you guys if you have vibes or are looking at getting springs. Stay clear of TireRack as they clearly don't care about their customers once they have your $$ and are not up to date on current information as it relates to our M's.

Keith, who is now off his soap box.

Thanks for the info... Im off to kick Tirerack's [non-permissible content removed] about this...

Did steve send you the kit for free and pay for it to be installed or is this going to end up being an issue with tirerack... I dont think we should pay for this install twice...

    Thanks Again !

I have a simple answer for you. You are driving a $30K Chrysler. If it was BMW, MB, Mustange, or even a Honda, there service would be different. They can only tell you what's on the computer in front of them. To be honest I have never heard changing springs to cause vibrations. I would also think it would be a balance/alighment issue. I have delt with tire rack for some time now. I never had any problems with them. I also bought the Ebiach kit last summer. It sat in my garage for 3 months, then I send it back. No problems. I'm not saying they were right, the sounds like a i'm right, & even if i'm wrong, i'm still right kind of person. I get the same kind of answers when I try to find performance stuff, or body kits.....300M.....ah.....?????? Whutz dat?? huh... Nah we don't make stuff for Chryslers. It's fustrating to say the least.

Ottowrkr, I have the handout from Timberline Dodge in Portland. Said the HYBRID model wasn't going to be a reality but the gas one was going to be built. The guy I normally deal with
(I live in Hawaii) is out today, but I will give him a call and find out whether the 2002 Charger is a reality. It's as close as I'm going to get to my beloved '68 383 Roadrunner, 4.11:1 rear, Hookers,
Holley 850 cfm double pumper, L-60 slicks, Hurst shifter, and low 12s at the track...ah those were the days. What I would give to have kept it or gotten the SuperBee...

I have to call Steve back next week, he expects the kits to be in by then. I asked what the cost was and there is none. We did not discuss installation costs at this time, I however don't think you will need to install the springs again. From the sound of things the kit is a motor mount spacer or replacement, I'll know more next week and let you know.

Hey guys, don't be running the tank way down on a regular basis. The fuel pump in the tank may rely on the gasoline for lubrication and cooling. You can ruin the fuel pump back there if you're not careful.

    f
  • sibesibe Member Posts: 102
FCM is absolutely right. If the fuel pump is located in the tank (as with the Durango) it relies on fuel for cooling. Repeated runs to near empty will cause, as per DC warnings, premature death of pump.

Anyone installed these front & back? I have them on my Durango due to poor design of the mag rims, they end up absolutely caked with brake dust. I called DC and they said other than heat retention near the rotor there is no problem with installing the VENTED version. Any "nay sayers" out there for the 300M?

When I stoped by a local motorsport shop this week I asked if they had ever worked on a 300m. The owner told me he had put Eibach springs on one and it was the worst experience. He said he had never seen a car have such a negative effect as the M did when it was lowered. The owner of the car was so upset about the vibration he kept returning it to the dealership thinking the problem was somewhere else in the car. After repeated trips to the dealership Chrysler flew someone in to look at the car. The problem turned out to be the springs and the service guy said you can't change the driveline angle on this car at all or else...

Kleen Wheels are inserts into the inside of your mags that protect the outside from brake dust and corrosion. They are made of plastic, are paintable to whatever color you want and the new series are vented. They do work GREAT on my Durango. They are only, of course, for disk brakes. You can check out theit website at

Sorry to be so late in answering you about the "Go To" box....

Actually, it DOES work correctly - it just uses it's own rules, not the ones that might seem logical to you! :-)

The "Go To" function uses "absolute" post numbers, rather than relative. Your post to me appears in the post list as number 2320, which means that at that point there were 2,320 posts existing in this discussion. That is the relative post number.

Put your mouse cursor on the link "2320" and check what is displayed in the bottom of your browser. You will see a link ending with "/2442" - 2442 is the absolute number of your post - this means that your post was the 2,442nd post that has been made in this discussion - the difference between 2442 and 2320 is the number of posts deleted up until your post.

The "Go To" function uses the absolute number. You see the relative number. That is why the "Go To" box does not work exactly like you might think that it would.

I don't know why the "Go To" function was designed this way, and I do know that it is quite confusing, especially in our larger topics where there is a greater chance of a large number of posts being deleted.

I do know that checking (by viewing the link properties as I described) can help when trying to input a useful "Go To" number.

I hope this helps a bit.

I know I should probably respond by email, but I think this is a concern of all users of this board. I dont know who designed this software, buy if I put a number in the "go to message" box, I would expect to go to the message number I entered. Can you please relay this concern to your higher ups so this obvious fault can be corrected.

    Hey guys and dolls,

Been away for a while - computer gave up its ghost and I got swamped at work.

Anyways, I hit 10K on the odometer and things started to go south. Daylight between the B pillars and the door seals, groaning in the driver's side front suspension during hard acceleration from a stop. Also got a stress crack in the windshield and a pinched sunroof gasket. Local 5 star, Steven's in Milford, CT, was kind enough to replace the gasket (guess they had to replace the $1000 worth of sunroof glass to get the gasket, because you can't get the $8 gasket without the $1000 glass..) replace the door seals (rear door's are still on order...) and replaced the windshield - all under warrantee. Good guys.

They also performed the TSB on the struts - but it didn't solve the groaning during acceleration. I'm starting to think it's the steering rack.

I'm really gunning to do some kind of mods on this car, but it doesn't sound like there's much of anything new available for us...

    Great to be back,
    -John

Can anyone point me towards a reputable tint shop in Connecticut? Preferably, one that will do a "windows off" job (taking the windows out of the doors to do the job.)

I, like sibe, have had good luck with kleenwheels. I had them on my last car and they worked great. On my R/T I see no need for them. The brakes vent in, or so they say, and I get NO, zero, brake dust on my wheels. If your wheels are an open design you will see the brake "cover" and that may not be a look you want. Mine were black and the wheels were a tight spoke design so you couldn't really see the kleenwheel. But they do work.

    That's one fine lookin' car!

I just washed Emmy today (does anyone else here use the California Water Blade to dry their car? It's great!), then Z'd it after touching up a few swirls with black Turtle Wax Color Cure & ChipStik (worked great -- does Zaino have colored filler wax?), and polished the Razorstars (which look like neither razors nor stars).

Also installed a new clock face with NRA logo. I think the new checkered 300M shield should be avoided on color faces (Chrysler wings, Tag Heuer, etc.), done on an ink jet, because they just don't come out dark enough. I think they look OK on greyscale faces, done on a 600 dpi laser writer.

Speaking of clock faces, I sent out six envelopes today, and two more will hit the mail tomorrow.
