Lots of good screen time for a sapphire blue '01 on tonight's X-Files. Included a very tight shot of a chrome wheel.

Unfortunately a bad guy eventually smashed the passenger front window. IMHO, a crime worse than any secret alien abduction ;-)

The '01 non-PHG does NOT have Michelin Pilots. They have Michelins, but I believe they are "T" speed rated at 118MPH, while the Pilots are "V" rated at 149MPH.
That's the main reason the PHG costs an extra 500 bucks! The Pilots retail for about $200.00 each, and would never be the standard tire on a 118MPH governed car.

Thanks for the offer krlass but I live in Western Kentucky.
The dealer did a search and said they are available, Is there a way I can find their search page ?
I plan on buying one this week but want to test a PG first.
If anyone knows of one in a dealer in western KY, TN, southern IN or I or DE Missouri please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Kelvin

They are the same thing, just different terminology. I think Chrysler calls it Performance Handling Group or "PHG", and folks on this board often refer to it as "PHP", or Performance Handling Package. Either way it means V-rated tires, firmer suspension, more feel to the steering, better brakes, and no 118 mph top speed limiter. Better handling but probably a bit rougher ride than M's without PHP/PHG.

Interesting, although I did not totally agree with it. I am for sharing parts, I would love to have a MB tranny in my 300M for example. As long as the MB stuff trickel down and Mitsubshi doesn't trickle up I have no problem.
As for the others, just put the best people in the positions reguardless of where they are from.

Now it makes sense... My dealer gave me an explaination of why my non chrome wheel non PHG '01 has the Pilots. They say it originally had the chrome wheels but they swapped the wheels with another car that had been ordered because the purchaser of the other car decided they wanted the chrome. Appears like the other car had PHG and now the owner has under rated tires.

    Zaino on order. Pictures soon.

Chrysler called it a Performance Handling Package for '99 & '00, but changed it to Performance Handling Group for '01.
Denverm is correct as to content (post 3455).

That is unconscionable! The dealer that did this should be canned!
Funroads got a great deal, a great tire upgrade, but the poor slob that bought the other car now has a [non-permissible content removed] package that could be unsafe.
Was the dealer a 5*? If so, we should blow him in to Chrysler!

As I occassionally do. My '99 Platinum Bullet turned 23,000 miles yesterday. On the way to the Mohegan Sun Casino. Nice day for a spirited drive in an excellent high speed touring sedan! Anyway, the streak came to a crashing halt. After 5 consecutive profitable casino trips, yesterday I lost early and lost often. Bad cards and bad players equals bad results for me...

My M (Shiny wheels, big roof hole and boombox stereo) continues to be a faithful servant with none of the issues reported on this board. Platinum is a great color when the sun is shining on it, the metallic flakes sparkle. I did see $2.00/gallon gas in CT. It was for premium, however. I'm paying $1.64 for 87 octane. Next month is a biggie: the M will turn 24,000 miles (2/3 way through warranty) and I'll own 2/3 of the car (36 months at 0%!).

Still diggin' this fine ride! Great car...

'21 Dark Blue/Black Audi A7 PHEV (mine); '22 White/Beige BMW X3 (hers); '20 Estoril Blue/Oyster BMW M240xi 'Vert (Ours, read: hers in 'vert weather; mine during Nor'easters...)

I'm now paying $2.07 for 89 octane. I sure hope the government puts the screws to these guys soon. On a brighter note, my spoiler should arrive today. I'll take pictures of the install for those who are interested.

I found a black inch long relatively small diameter sheet metal screw in the driveway this morning - hex head, washer head and phillips head, twin thread. I also started getting a rattle behind my dash this morning. I wonder if these events are related. Comments anyone?

Is it a black torx head screw or phillips head?
  • Options
    sdmike2sdmike2 Member Posts: 2,909
It's a combination hex (so you can use a ratchet on it) and phillips head. Not torx.

I was driving my wifes '99 Voyager this weekend when a Lincoln LS pulled up next to me at a stoplight. Well we both punched on the green and the 3.3 liter roared under the van's hood and put me in the early lead. The LS began catching me at the 1/4 mile mark, but then we hit a series of curves and the sweet handling Grand Voyager left Mr. Lincoln staring at the bike rack on the back. He wouldn't have had any chance if I wouln't have had the luggage carrier on the top and 300 lbs of landscape rock on the back. I think I'll full with the TB's this weekend, put a dual exhaust on and take her up to Elkhart Lake to run her on the road course.

(While I agree that the ride is much better than it gets credit for, I would never compare the Grand Voyager with the M in handling and ride.)

    Enough said.

right under the windshield washers, there are like 7-8 screws lining that big black piece, some long, some short, i took it apart one day and didn't tighten back up good, and that fell out....

Hello one and all. I sincerely hope someone can give me advice on how to handle a situation. I posted a message (#3379) regarding a transmission problem I have and received a reply (#3396). I did take the car back to the dealer (a 5*) and am still being told the same thing, "can't reproduce the problem", "nothing shows up on the computer", "there are no TSBs on this problem", "I can't start changing parts when the computer says nothing is wrong, Chrysler won't reimburse", and, "I've never seen or heard of this problem". Can anyone tell me how to handle this? I love this car and do not want to sell it, but, needless to say, I feel like I am waiting for a transmission failure with a couple thousand dollar replacement that I can ill afford. Thanks a lot for your input.

My 2000 M , which I purchased last October as it came off a 1 year lease, has PHP and also has chromed Razorstars with Goodyear Eagle LS tires. I have verified that it DOES have PHP, even though these are the wrong tires. Also the original invoice lists the 16" wheels, which are the wheels a 2000 M with PHP would have come with in October, 99 (I think).
I haven't been able to verify, but my assumption is that the original lessor of this car swapped the 16" wheels and Michelins for the chromed 17" wheels with Goodyears.
The car had 11K miles when I bought it in October, it now has 25K and the Goodyears are holding up well. I've had none of the tire problems I've read about (knock on wood!) and I've been pleased with the way the Goodyears handle. If this car will handle better with Michelins or anything else, then the handling will be really phenomenal!
I am aware that these tires are not rated for speeds over 118 or so, but I've never approached that speed and I don't expect to. I will replace them with higher speed rated tires when they wear out, not so that I can drive faster, but mainly to see if the M is capable of even better than the truly excellent handling I'm enjoying now.

If the dealer ran it on the computer & found nothing wrong, there's not much you can do with them. Dealer mechinacs are solders now days, they only fix what there told, or what is listed on the computer screen. You can howerver do a few things on your own. You can get a tranny service done.(your cost) A complete flush is what you want. Make sure they put in ATF+4! It's very important they use the correct fluid. You can disconnect the TCM(tranny fuse) or disconnect the battery overnight. This cleanes out the computer memory, & improves shifting quailty. You can ask the dealer to do a factory quick learn on the tranny. This is when they hook up the computer, & reset the tranny to factory specs. It's like disconnecting the battery, but better. Other then this, I don't know what else you can do.

WOW! That Camaro owner must of wondered what hit him!!!! That would be worth the investment to see the looks on those other drivers faces when an 89 dodge Van kicks him.

I still wonder how it would do in the corners!

Just add some HD shocks, a sway bar and some Michelin V(?) rated tires and it would do fine! LOL...

    Well I did it today. Bought a 2001 300M.
    I decided against the PHG.
Couldn't find a PGH to try so I went with the smoother ride.
I already have a car that corners on rails. A 911S with 345/35 ZR 15's on the back.

Got an Inferno Red with luxury group, chrome wheels, sun roof, side air bags, 4 CD / 11 speakers and the smokers group.
It will be in tomorrow, can't pick it up untill Wednsday.

    Hey K,
YOU got the one I REALLY wanted but couldn't find! (all except the smoker's group).
I got the silver/agate, with all the goodies except the performance package, engine/
battery heater and smoker's group. I don't get it until next week (transfer funds), but I'm
getting excited. That inferno red is soooo sharp! Good luck man. You got a beautiful
car! But tell me (and I am sorry, I can't help myself, I have to ask), what did you pay for it?

    Hi guys,
I saw a few older posting regarding after market spoilers. I checked www.mopar.com
and they list a factory spoiler too (MSRP: $250.00 - I think). Any of you buy one? Install it?
It comes per-painted and I don't think it will be that hard to install. But I was wondering
if it improves the rear view visibility. During my test drives, I found my judgment is super
poor when backing up.... sorry but I'm an old, fat, short, bald guy with glasses the proverbial thickness
of coke bottles...(see, I told you I was old... used to drink Coke from REAL
green-tinted glass bottles - cost me 6 cents! and it included the deposit)!

ok gang, I finished the spoiler job and I think it turned out great. It took me about 90 minutes, and it would have been faster if I had less kids to deal with and a sharper 1/2 drill bit. :) Here is a link to the photo series of the installation.

dont disappoint us now--I thought you would be getting a much higher spoiler-aka airfoil--with a built in brake light---you need something really radical on your very radical M---hmmmmmmmm

Good job on the spoiler mike---how many more hp do you get with it--must greatly improve your 1/4 mile times--no more loss of traction when going 150mph :-)

I may not be any faster, but I sure look faster. LOL

I think that's the extent of my mods. I don't think I'm going to dig around in the engine and mess with the throttle body, put in side marker lights, or lower the car. I've done the clock face, dual exhaust, spoiler, license plate bracket and hood cover. methinks I'm done. :)

one more thing you need---you should think about strippin the emblems off the trunk and putting on a large chrylser wing emblem--ala avalanche--check out his wing emblem pic---looks like the 300N--either that or leave it totally bare--

I've had people ask me if my car was a Lexus. And others have asked if it was a Mercedes.. And I still have the emblems on it.

hey avalanche--you've got only 88 days to complete your mods---the Woodward Cruise is August 17th!

I have to admit that spoiler looks good on your car. Congrats and enjoy!

I can appreciate what drilling into your deck lid must have been like. I had a similar feeling just cutting my bumper skin, and that was only plastic! It was kinda like "Oh hell, here goes nothin'".

I absorbed the pain in two or three waves...probably the only way I could have handled it. First was the tap, then the pilot holes, then the big holes....

Avalanche - the company I bought the spoiler from sells a lighted version, I believe.

I'm new to this, this is my first attempt at contributing to the 300M chat. I have been reading for months all of the conversations you have been having. I've learned a bunch. I own a 2000 Red Garnet Peral Coat with all the goodies except PHG. When I was shopping, it was clearly indicated on the window sticker if the car had PHG or not. I tested both and decided that for my XXL frame the less firm ride was it. It was a huge change from my '99 Passat GLS-V6 5 speed. Both wonderful cars, but very different. Again I appreciate all of the "heads up" I get from those much more savy about their 300M's than me. I love cars, but do not have the accumen for all the cool mods you guys make, WOW! I'm looking forward to the August get together in Detroit, I live about four hours north of there. I'll get to see those great looking dual exhausts I keep seeing. By the way, my car doesn't pull to the left as many of you have said, I'll pull to the right, and when stopping from 60 to 0 my steering wheel shakes. Time to get it into the 5*.

Very tasteful, Mike. Thanks for sharing the pics of your duals and spoiler installs. Inferno Red looks terrific on the M. "Cuff me" crimson :>)
I carry customers to lunch in my M so I kept it pretty conservative (bright silver/slate, painted wheels). Still get lots of compliments.

..for the compliments guys. It's the sharing of ideas, processes and pictures in here that gives me the guts to do stuff like this. I'm no Avalanche. ;) I lied about being done though....I'm getting the windows tinted dark next week. Forgot about that one. I better stop soon or my wife will kill me. :)

Spyboy - Sorry I didn't answer you last night, but this morning was the first time I drove it with the spoiler. I can see about 2 inches of the spoiler in my rear view mirror. It gives me a very good idea where the back of the car is (even though the bumber sticks out about 6 inches from the spoiler) and it doesn't block my view at all. Let me know if you want me to take a picture of what it looks like in the rear view mirror and through the back window.

Easy..did you take your badges off the back? I think I'll doctor up a photo to see what it might look like (grin)
