my 06 odyssey lx has only 4 speakers, 2 in the lower front doors and 2 in the 3rd row seat area, i noticed that the ex versions have what appear to be 2 tweaters in the top corners of the dash..my model appears to have plugs there that can be removed and speakers added...anyone try adding speakers in this area? also any ideas about adding an oat gauge? thanks in advance

Have you found your console? What do you intend to do with the plusone seat because I would be interested in it. Thanks.

We are interested in getting all-weather mats for our Odyssey, but aren't liking the 2 colors offered by Honda, black and taupe (tan?).

We are interested in a custom fit. Does anyone have experience with any of the following for the Odyssey? How well do they cover the floor?

    hi
i just installed a complete set of weathertech tan colored floormats on my 06 odyssey, they provide complete coverage and the front ones are custom fit, the mats in the third row need slight trimming, total cost with std. shipping was around $153.00, also i was able to put them directly over the original floormats, they don't shift, had weathertech in other cars and have been very happy with the quality..

Never be afraid to try bargaining with the parts counter, just as you did on the showroom floor. After New Years I picked up the receiver hitch kit for my Ody. List was $309, selling price was $225. They price matched an add from one of the internet sellers. I did the same thing when I initially purchased the van (mats, flaps, deflector, roof rails).

I purchased a very nice wrap around deflector for my 06 odyssey. I've looked high and low for many months. I'm going to try to attach a few pictures. It was only 75.00 I think + shipping.

    Really sweet. Received many compliments.

can be fixed, I think. Dealer switched my roof bike rack from the old odyssey to the new one I bought this week. Very noisy. Turns out there are channels in the cross bars which hold rubber strips. The strips were removed to mount the bike racks. Without the strips the cross bars whistle in the wind. I put duct tape over the channels to see if that would stop the whistle. It did. Now all I have to do is see if I can replace the duct tape with the rubber strips in the cross bars between the bike racks. Or get the dealer to do it.

I plan on taking the kids to the snow soon and was looking for recommendations for snow chains. I noticed the owners manual states that the oddy has limited clearance in the wheelwells and says to use cables. This is what I planned to buy anyway since I rarely go to the snow. I don't anticipate going into any heavy snow....I'm in California!!

I have an '05 EXL-RES. So far so good at <5000 miles. Purchased new July '05.

Please give me your make and model of some quality snow cable-chains. And the approximate price you paid and the ease of putting them on.

Thanks in advance!! (Sorry if this is a repeat post)

Could someone in snow country please reply. I'm looking at purchasing all weather mats for my new odyssey. We live in Syracuse which as you know is in the snow belt. Any opinions on whether the Honda or Weathertech mats offer better floor coverage and how they handly wet/slushy shoes?

Also anyone have the weatertech cargo mat?

Thanks in advance for your time.

FYI: On the Honda Odyssey 1999-2004 board I posted my experience with installing the Honda hitch kit.

We have a steep driveway so if any hitches are farther from the ground than others it would be better. Does anyone have any information as to whether the Hidden hitch (or others) are lower to the ground than the Honda OEM hitch?
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,147
the OEM is higher. I don't have exact measurements, but after seeing an aftermarket on in place, I went with the OEM. Much cleaner look, and it does sit higher.

    Hi,

I am considering buying a compact utility trailer to tow behind my 1996 odyssey. My concern is the lack of power. I would be using the trailer mostly for camping trips during the summer.

The van would be FILLED with people. I have four boys under the age of 10 with my wife. We want to take bikes and camping equipment.

Has anyone had any experience doing this with this vehicle. Oil cooler?

The guttless wonder is always downshifting on grades.

    Thanks

I just bought a Power Hoist for my Power Chair and you can use your Ody to put in any Disable stuff in your Van to make easier for anybody to transport thier disable equipment.

I recently added the rear hitch assembly to my '02 Ody expressly for the purpose of being able to take our bicycles on vacation. But my older hitch rack can be a bit of a pain, for while it can be tilted down when empty, it cannot get out of the way of the lift gate when loaded up. And face it, you ALWAYS have to get in there just after you load up the bikes!

I finally went shopping for a new rack, and settled on either the Thule 998XT Trailblazer or the Yakima FullSwing. Expensive, but they have a hinge arm that swings the bikes to the passenger side of the vehicle, allowing unimpeded access to the rear. While I liked some features of the Thule better, the straight 'stinger' coupled with how low the Ody hitch is made driveway access risky. The Thule has an upswept arm that puts the entire swing assembly up even with the bumper, rather than below it.

It is a beautiful design, and makes vacationing with bikes a whole lot easier.

Does anyone know if you can get a second row bench for the Odyssey? I would like to install my baby's car seat in the center and NOT next to the door.

    Any suggestions I will appreciate.

    Thank you,

You can use a towel if you want to protect the seats. But, if you want something a little fancier, try toys R us, or any of the auto supply or baby stores. I'm sure there are plenty of pre made options.

As to the bench, if you have a '99+ Ody, then the pass. side middle seat can be relocated into the middle, effectively making a bench (you just unlatch the back and slide it over). Honda never offered a tru bench seat option in this model.

I heard there's a new product on the market that protects the front end against paint chips, scratches, etc...apparently it's a clear, removable, spray-on film that most people can apply themselves...has anyone heard of it? thanks
  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
Spray on?? Never heard of that.

There is a clear film that is stuck on the front end.

    Google "Clear Bra".

Just traded in my '01 EX Ody for an '06 Touring w/nav. Lovely car. Had a cargo mat in my old ody that I could slide up and under the 3rd row seats when not in use. Didn't have to fold it, and it fit ok stopping just behind the floor latches of the 2nd row, but not sticking out into the cargo well when the 3rd row seats were up.

I want a new cargo mat for the '06 ody, but want to be able to carry it in the van even when the 3rd row seats are up. Has anyone done this? I'm worried that the new seat design ( you can't stuff things under the 3rd row seats from behind like in the '01) will prevent me from being able to store the mat in the van when not in use.

    Advice? :confuse:

In the older model Odyssey's, one of the middle row seats could be moved towards the other seat, effectively creating a 2nd row bench (and a different path to the back seat). Is that possible in the '05/'06?

Looking to buy a roof box for my '03 Odyssey and curious how big i can go, particularly in length. Anyone test the boundaries yet?

On the EX and Touring models, you can remove the PlusOne seat or the Console and move the right chair in to make the bench.

I went to Target (six years ago) and bought a dozen grey bathroom towels. Where I needed to cut holes for the head rests or other access locations I strengthened it with iron-on-knee patches. Draped it all over the seats and it has been holding up since then. Ok, it is looking a wee bit ratty now with the high wear areas balding but no rips or tears yet anywhere... Cost effective and functional, and not too bad looking --- at first... :-)
  • cwalticwalti Member Posts: 185
This will no longer be a problem as it will never upshift into higher gears with that load... It sounds as if you want to move a house with a Honda Accord.... Rent a bigger van for the two weeks on vacation...

I would be careful using a car seat saver mat or cover. I did some research on this, and most professional car seat installation sites (and feedback I read on the net) do not recommend using a mat or cover as it can cause the car seat to not be installed as tight as it should have been.

I had originally purchased one of these and have since removed it from my van. Based on my experience, I can attest that the car seat was tighter after taking the seat cover off...

I would suggest getting your car seat checked at your local police or fire station if you do decide to install a mat.

Definitely do not use a towel...
  • cwalticwalti Member Posts: 185
I am not sure I understand... I had the bath-towels fitted to be smoothe against the seat surfaces. I cannot see how you can say a baby seat would not install as well... All connecting and attach-features such as buckles and straps are just as accessible....

Almost all of the professional car seat installion web sites that I visited specifically stated to not put anything under the car seat (although some said if you have to put something use a shelf liner). Several of the threads that I read specifically stated not to use a towel. Honestly, I do not know the full dynamics of why you should not put something under the car seat, but I did notice that once I removed my seat cover I got a tighter fit.

If you do put something underneath your car seat, I would have it checked out by your local police or fire department to ensure it is secure.
  • cwalticwalti Member Posts: 185
....that has to be a liability CYA...

It still does not make much sense. The car seat is anchored and attached to the seat without relying on any friction. ??
  • dc_driverdc_driver Member Posts: 712
    Very possible (liability)...

But I decided not to take a chance... Again, this is a personal decision. If you get a very tight fit, and feel comfortable you should probably be okay..

I'm looking at purchasing an EXL RES in June. What is the opinion on whether the auto day/night dimming mirror is needed?

Is the back window tinted enough to need it? How do truck headlights hit the rearview mirror?
  • springcknspringckn Member Posts: 1
The day/night mirror is a must !!! Had one on my Accord and am about to have one installed on my Odyssey. Plus, because I live in a very large city, I use the compass constantly.
  • cpsdarrencpsdarren Member Posts: 265
It is generally OK to put a single layer of thin, non-compressible material under a child restraint to protect the seats. An unfolded towel, shelf liner or very thin rubber carseat mat can all be used provided you can get a solid installation with and without the use of the material.

The main concern is that thick materials under a seat can give the appearance of a solid installation. Over time or in a crash, they can be compressed and effectively you still have a loose installation. Even thin materials can reduce the movement of a seat because they grip rather than slide like a leather seating surface. That can also give a false sense of security, since that grip won't hold the seat in the forces of a crash.

If you are confident you can get a good installation before and after the use of a thin layer of protective material, then it should be OK. A good installation is usually an inch or less of movement side-to-side and back-to-front when you grip the childseat at the point where the seatbelt or LATCH straps are routed.

I was a bit disturbed that the dimming mirror wasn't included as well....having had that on prior vehicles. However, the prior vehicles also dimmed the side mirrors which was more beneficial in an SUV/Van IMHO. I have no issues with glare coming from the rear view mirror and decided against adding it to my EX-L R&N. You don't get the side mirror dimming so I don't see much benefit to it particularly for the price. The rear window is tinted and it sits quite high so you don't get glare like you do in a car. I've never even flipped mine manually.

As for the compass...if you need it perhaps it's worth it. Nav seems to be the modern compass, with phone numbers to boot. The NAV is probably a better investment vs the $400 my dealer wanted for the installed rearview mirror. Plus all the other goodies that comes with NAV (backup camera, voice commands, XM, etc.)

Has anyone come up with a after market change/coin holder for a 06. I love the van but there just isn't any good place to put coins like the older 04 and earlier models that had a coin holder built into the drink holder.

    Thanks...Scott

I have an 06EXL and am looking for an after market compass. I've checked out getting the OEM auto dimming mirror that has a a compass built into it but that want over $100.

I put felt in the "coin drawer" and it works quite good IMHO. They're not organized, but I keep a couple handfulls in there so it's always easy to find what you need. Another solution would be to buy the coin holder for the Ridgeline. It's a small Quarter/Nickel/Dime spring loaded holder that you could attach to the fold-down console. The only bad thing is no pennies....but I'm sure you could buy two and use one of the slots for pennies.
  • stickguystickguy Member Posts: 53,147
we ended up dumping the loose change into one of the cupholds in the fold up tray (which has never been folded down). They pretty much suck for holding drinks, so might as well hold coins.

The real solution is a little coin purse that you can stash in the top center console storage box. Easy to get to, and they stay organized.

there is a tray below front seat heater switch and power outlet. You can use that tray for coins. It's kinda low. You have to bend down.

I just installed a hidden hitch class III (bought from truckchamp.com). Cost $150 delivered. You don't have to remove parts to install it. It took me 30 min to put it in. I instered the hitch into the muffler side first, put one screw in, jacked that side up, went to the other side and inserted nuts. This one is about 40lb heavy.

I'm in the market for one of these as well for my '01 Odyssey. Which model did you end up getting (unclear from the post) and did you also need to buy any type of adapter from Honda as well?
    Any info would be appreciated

Anyone found a method to make the doors automatically lock and unlock dependant on the vehicle being in gear or out? Its one of the little things that we really miss.

Any suggestions? Its a 06 EX-L RES NAV

My 2006 Odyssey has door edge guards installed on the front doors, but not on the sliding doors. I opened one of the sliding doors and hit a pole, which chipped off the paint on the bottom edge. Does anybody make door edge guards for the sliding doors? If so, where can I get them? I'd like to put some on the sliding doors to hide the chipped paint and protect them from further damage.

We just bought a 2006 Odyssey EX-L. I was disappointed to learn that Honda does not offer a cover for the cargo area. We have had two break-ins in the past where bags were stolen out of our car. We would like a privacy cover for the cargo area to prevent this from happening again. Does anyone know if there is an after-market option?

    Thanks !

I have installed this system myself after buying it from Bernardi.com. It has an additional kill switch built in a microphone to respond to glass breaking and an additional blinking LED. One has to be somewhat savvy with circuitry as one needs to disassemble plugs and feed additional leads into empty terminals. Having worked with and around cars is a must as much of the dash needs to be disassembled. One also needs to be able to read instructions well. Otherwise leave it to the pros...
  • cwalticwalti Member Posts: 185
Yep, I too got them after the vehicle purchase and self installed them. They give good warning, but be advised if you are backing up against a smooth sloped surface all your 'sonar' will be deflected and no echo will come back to activate the sensors... As long as you are aware of how it works and where the shortcomings are, it is a cool system to have...
