Do you know if adding such a thing without going thru the dealer affects the warranty? Ours is a 2007....
The only way that you'll affect the warranty is if the dealer can prove the hitch caused the failure.
If your radio dies, the dealer really can't blame the installation of the hitch on it.
OTOH, if your tranny dies and you have a hitch but don't have the tranny cooler then Honda may have a case to deny warranty coverage.
Talk to the dealer. What my dealer told me on my 2000 was that if I had a hitch installed but didn't install a wiring harness, then they would go to bat for me with Honda if I had an issue. No harness would show that I either didn't hook up a trailer/lights or that I'm a complete idiot and would do such a thing. It also helps that I have had 100% of my service work done at the dealer and have a great relationship with them. They've taken care of many things for me under goodwill and they would help me out with Honda.
Remember - don't be penny wise and pound foolish.
Any thoughts on this? Any one add this item aftermarket and if so, where did you find it?
Thanks!

Good news.
According to THIS, the 2nd row center console (which they sell) will fit the EX models (but not the LX model).
recently, i had to replace the camera which was collecting condensation for a replacement. i hope a one-off problem.
Also, any ideas who could/would possibly do the installation(Pepboys , Midas, etc...) for ignoramus like me...
Thanks!
however, i purchased with AMEX so that got me an additional year warranty anyway.
depending on the vehicle you drive, it is not so difficult to install the camera. your biggest hurdle, can you route the camera power wires over to a rear-light assembly?
for our odyssey (your vehicle may be different):
i needed to drill a tiny hole in the hatch behind the license plate (never seen by anyone, won't see water). you end up putting a rubber grommet in the hole anyway which the power wire (2 conductor snakes through).
this requires a drill and proper size drill-bit... if you don't have that, you may be sunk.
then, you need to mount the camera on the license plate screws. only a screwdriver required there. no big deal.
ok, you need to snake the power wire for the camera over to a rear / reverse lightbulb socket, because the camera is powered when you put the car in reverse.
to snake it over to the bulb area from where i made the hole... in my wife's Odyssey, i found this fairly easy to do:
1). remove hatch handle screw covers with putty knife
2). remove hatch handle with screwdriver
3). remove plastic snap rivets (down near lock assembly on hatch) with screwdriver (back plastic screws out) and remove with fingers.
4). gently pull the interior hatch covering (plastic) at 2 locations on both sides of the hatch (down near the lowest part of the hatch at the corners), and about 1/2 way up from the corners and the square access panels for the lightbulb. as you pull, plastic snaps or rivets will let-go from the metal hatch. this detaches the plastic hatch covering from the metal hatch just enough for using your hands.
5). now with the plastic hatch covering loose enough you can move it away from the hatch body, you can snake the wire over to the bulb area. route the wire so it doesn't interfere with the mechanicals for the hatch handle.
6). remove the plastic access panel in the hatch covering behind the light assembly you'll be making the connection for power.
7). snake the power wire through the hatch. reseat the hatch platic pop rivets by pushing the hatch covering back against the metal hatch till they pop back in and hold.
8). re-install the plastic rivets near the lock assembly. re-install the hatch handle.
9). using a very sharp knife or wire strippers, back the insulation off the black (12V ground) and green (12V power) wires going to the backup bulb so the conductor is exposed. no need to cut the wires. remove insulation from the black (12V ground) power wire of the camera, and red (12V power) wire of the camera.
10). black to black. red to green. make a good physical connection. finish with black electrical tape (home depot, lowes, radioshack).
11). re-install bulb and access panel.
now, the rest is easy: decide where to mount the display. on the ODY, i found it works well mounted on the dash using velcro on the back of the display right above the mirror controls to the left of the steering wheel.
i purchased a 12volt power Y-Adapter from BELL(also pepboys, about $5) so that we could power the backup camera and my wife's cell phone charger cord at the same time, and physical swapping of plugs wouldn't be necessary. backup display plugs into the Y-adapter. so does wife's cell phone cord. Y-adapter plugs into the convenience outlet. easy.
i snaked the power cable for the camera up alongside but tucked behind the center dash material, up over the wires behind the stearing wheel, over to the fuse area at the driver's door, and up the dash to the display. installation looks pretty good. you cannot see the power cord when the door is closed. no problems there.
one thing i noted, in the south it gets very hot. the velcro material they provide in the box has a very poor adhesive, and the display would slip off the dash after a few days as my wife parked the car in the sun.
i went to home depot and for $3-$4 or so, i purchased some "Automobile Velcro" which has a much better adhesive and sticks well. one piece on the dash, mating piece on the back of the display.
so, who could help you if you're not comfortable doing it yourself? a mechanically inclined neighbor with some readily available tools. it's pretty easy once you get over the mini-trama of drilling a hole, snaking the wire, and making the electrical connection for camera power.
a reasonable exchange of gratitude or help in some current or future project he/she may have, a 6-pack of beer, bottle of wine, gift certificate to a bookstore... a simple thank you... neighbors like helping neighbors.
I mentioned my plans a buddy who said that he'd bet a decent sledge hammer could knock the lockbox off the Hidden-Hitch and a few more blows on the box could open it. I'm not sure he's right, but now I'm hesitant to install a lockbox where it can be easily seen by anyone with a view of my hitch (basically, anyone walking or driving behind me). On the other hand, I can't think of another place where I could mount a lockbox securely (and still be able to see the buttons to open it when needed).
The only other options which come to mind are:
1. Use a velcro hide-a-key and put the key under the bumper where nobody can see it. This is ok, but I suppose any oil change jockey may see it and make note for future use.
2. Have an auxiliary all-weather switch wired to the electric door locks. The switch would probably be installed under the front or back bumper. Hit the switch and the doors unlock. I'd hide my extra key inside the van where I wouldn't expect anyone to look (e.g. in a velcro hide-a-key under the driver seat, under the carpet in the under-floor well (lazy susan) or in the spare tire door). Again, someone at ultralube might see the switch, but would be less likely to pay attention to it.
Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas?
Call me paranoid, but (1) my Ody was stolen (and recovered, damaged) earlier this year, (2) In 30 years of driving, I've locked my keys in the car a few times (3) I've lost my only keys in the river and been with others who have. I just don't want to be stuck again.
BUMPER COVER NOTCH - TEMPLATE IS TOO BIG
Also, you have to cut a notch in the bottom of the bumpper cover. The installation instruction come with a template for cutting the notch. It's easy to cut. However, the template for cutting the notch is actually a little bigger than necessary. If I did it again, I would only cut the notch on the BOTTOM of the rear bumpper. The template extends the notch to part of the rear/back side of the bumpper so you can see it a little bit from behind. It's not a big deal - still looks okay.
It was'nt that bad, once i got over the fact that I would need to drill a hole into my new minivan.
interestingly, the other day i was driving down the road by a drug store and the display on the dash came to life (as if i were backing up the vehicle). for about 3 or 4 seconds i could see people shopping in the isles of the drug store. :surprise:
Anyone heard of such a thing - or know another way for a direct connection (not one of those FM transmitters)?
thanks.

look at the owner's manual using the link.
there's probably something even cheaper that just provides AUX audio in to the radio. you might want to seek out an installer at say a BestBuy or even a high-end audio store, or do some work via Google to research it.
and here's another site you should know about because of the nice exploded views of various sub-systems:

enjoy that honda.
So I will not order the honda one - and hopefully be able to find a 3rd party item to put in there instead.
We go to the beach a lot and throw all of our sandy/salty/wet items in the trunk.
there are companies that produce really serious WX mats. the names excape me but you can google for them.

can your whole family fit in there? :shades:
Meanwhile I'll try searching on them. I know I always used to see ads in the back of car mags for the SUV trays but don't recall a lot, if any, ads for minivans.
look for the ad for Macneil (SP?) that is in most of the car magazines. I think they have a web site at mats.com They probably have one.
2020 Acura RDX tech SH-AWD, 2023 Maverick hybrid Lariat luxury package.
what to buy for your new Honda, here is what I know
http://www.aftermarketperformanceparts.com/honda-car-accessories.html
where you can find lots of Honda parts you might need.
I can't imagine needing anything sturdier than this in the cargo well. Vaccuums out easily. I did look at a couple of different aftermarket liners but they were all shallower than the oem liner....that was my deciding factor.

It's no longer on my list of options. Supposedly, it's being redesigned..... I'll have another look when it's re released.

BTW: I have a 07'Touring
Good mats are expensive, period. The Honda OEM mats are a very good quality and worth the money IMHO, although it always pays to shop around. Good aftermarkets are in the $150 range and I'm not sure I've seen any that offer the access to the 2nd row floor storage like the OEM's do.
This All season mat trim (with Odyssey logo) has exactly OEM carpet access to 2nd row floor storage. One thing to be aware of is they don't have lips on side like the weathertech or huskies.
Keep carpet free from wet, messy tracks
Functional design ridges trap dirt, sand, mud and water
Tough rubber material has a long lifespan
Easily cleaned with mild soap and water
Floor-mat pattern matches the trunk tray for a coordinated look
Not intended for use with standard carpet floor mats
color : black, saddle
All 3 rows are included.

Also, I was very concerned about the potential damage to the A/C condenser from road debris. So, I installed a set of custom stainless steel grill guards. I have included pictures, if anyone is interested:
link title
These are the Stainless Steel Grill Inserts, Combo Package, All Season-Round, Mirror Stainless (28-991); $209+35S&H=$244. A little expensive, but cheaper than a $600 A/C condenser replacement. Plus it gives the Ody an individualized, sporty look. They took about 3 weeks from order to arrival. Supposedly, each order is made individually.
Also, the company is www.cloud-rider.com.
I am very pleased with the product!
As my all season honda mat does not have lips/walls I will make sure I brush off as much snow as possible to not spill the water over the edge to the carpet. You have to pull away the honda floor mats.
I bought fog lights as a stand-alone option in my 2007 EX-L, and the dealer installed them. However, I think there may be a problem with their alignment: there is a horizontal black line between where the light from the fog lights end and the light from the regular front lamps begin. In my other car with fog lights, there is no such gap; i.e., the light from the fog lights meets or perhaps overlaps a bit the light from the regular front lamps.
Should there be this gap? Perhaps someone who has fog lights could let me know? :confuse:
Thanks greatly for the advice.
The small piece of carpet cover I believe is for the middle seat (Honda calls it Plus-1 seat) in the second row. If you decide to store the this seat in the foor storage, this piece of carpet is to cover where the plus-1 seat is located. I hope I have explained it well.
I am about to close on a 2007 EX. I don't think it comes with the roofrack crossbars. Does anyone have any suggestions for purchasing. Do I have to buy from Honda? Also is there an alternative maker for the cargo area liner? I am guessing it is best to get them from Honda, I may try to get a discount on them when I close.
Also does anyone have any issues with the EX cloth seats? should I spray them with Scotch guard or other treatment or leave them alone :confuse:
I did end up returning the Honda OEM mats and tray as they were very disappointing, see post 813. I instead went with company called weathertech, search them online. They have the floor liners you truly want for long term for about the same price.
Cross Bars $153.26US
Cargo Tray $89.10US (not good product)
Floor Mats, All-Season $154.33US (not good product)
RES Headphones $62.64US
If you know you are going to end up with the van you may want to buy your floor liners online now as it will take a week for them to arrive... so you kindof want to avoid having new car w/o mats.
Cannot comment on your cloth seats. I however purchase 7 cans of scotch guard at Walmart to spray all my floor carpetting while still new. I put my roof cross bars on last weekend and it was well worth the cost savings.
The load bars are about 160 - the cargo tray is 90.
They are a dealer - so maybe you can get your local dealer to match the price.
