Now since Jim talked about the interior, here's what I have:
* coins in the ashtray
* pack of gum in the empty bin below the HVAC
* parking lot acces card from work on the armrest - that neat little clip attached to the inside of it - did anyone else notice that?
* security card from work in the armrest bin, along w/flashlight, tire pressure gauge
* CD case, insurance papers and pen in the glove box
* 1 pair of gloves, cell phone charger, cell phone hands-free kit (bought from Buffalo this summer) in my door pocket
* 10-kleenex pack, GTA map in the passenger door pocket
* kleenex box stuffed in b/w the armrest and rear setas on that bulge in the middle of the floor
* parking pass from university on the rear view mirror
* small soccer ball attached to shifter
* PRO floormats and on top black walmart floormats for winter

Hence, I must conclude by saying that if the case is empty, we must acquit!

Owner's manual in folder with some maintenance receipts
State inspection receipt
A couple pens
Some napkins
Center console cubby (under ashtray):
144-MHz VHF radio, permanently mounted
Armrest bin:
Mike for VHF radio
Cell phone charger cord
Change holder with change
Tire pressure gauge
Driver's side visor strap:
Parking deck card
Toll card (I work for the toll authority)
Bin down near left knee:
"Smart Tag" toll transponder (I have to remove it from my windshield when I'm using our toll roads during work hours so I can use my free toll card; this bin is shielded enough that the transponder won't "false" and open the gate when it's down there).
Now, another thing I miss from my '92 LX: Why did they get rid of that very handy pocket that was on the back of the passenger seat (facing the right rear seat)? It was very handy for holding bigger stuff like a city map book, and you could reach it very easily from the driver's seat by simply reaching around behind the passenger's seat with your right hand. I miss that pocket, Mazda! (Like I miss the rear-center folding armrest in the back seat too!)

* cell phone charger cord
* papers and napkins
* one CD case (I don't know what it is though)
* one McDonald's BBQ sauce container (unopened)
* reciepts from paying 2 store charge card bills last month
* picture my best friends and I took last night while out (Polaroid)
* various other crap
Right door pocket:
* owner's manual
* dad's sunglasses (we only have one car, so they stay there)
* some more papers
Center armrest storage:
* sunglasses
* Altoids
* Certs mints
* a couple tapes
* gum (usually, but I ran out the other day)
* cell phone headset (hands-free one)
* gas reciepts (taken out though, when I get home)
Rear seatback pocket:
* I have no idea
NO french fries under my seats in my car, or in any car that I have ever owned. NO WAY! This is going to sound REAL nasty, but it's true. I got into an old neighbor's car once, and it had bugs in it. That cured me of ever having food in my car. I will have the occasional soda can or cup, but that's it. And it rides in the cupholder only.
(Prescription) Sunglasses!
Thanks for reminding me Paul!

Man, you hang out here wayyyyy too much. You (and not those you've been accusing) really DO need to get a life!

do u tie them down or what?
Bruno
Actually, I rarely buy JD. I prefer Wild Turkey 101. But if truth be told, and you're looking for a good, low-priced bourbon, take my advice and try a brand called Ezra Brooks. My dad, who's an old bourbon afficianado, turned me onto it. It's good stuff; you can barely taste the difference between it and JD even though it's about half the price.
OK PAT, OK! Sorry sorry sorry! But we ARE talking about what's rolling around in the trunks of our PROTEGES, after all! And what word goes with driving like drinking? "Drinking and Driving," they sound so good together! Kinda got a ring to it!
Seriously ... if instead of responding like I have, I had posted something like, "Tom, let's take this to the Posse discussion," well, that would've been an off-topic post too! So why not kill two birds with one stone? Yeah! How grateful you and the rest of Edmunds should be since I'm making an effort to save server space and illustrate a shining example of efficiency! Now, where's my formal thank-you letter?

Increased profits: Bruno, according to the article, the increased profits were due to three things:
"Mazda has been trimming purchasing costs by buying parts from lower-cost countries and by using more generic parts in its model ranges. The company, which released its Mazda6 in Europe in June, is also benefiting from currency fluctuations. The yen was an average 8.5 percent weaker against the euro in the first half and 0.8 percent weaker against the U.S. dollar."
Also: "The maker of Miata sports cars said first-half sales rose 12 percent to 1.16 trillion yen, from 1.04 trillion yen a year earlier."
Sure, there are plenty of cars out there that have a higher handling limit and more power, but there is something so right (read fun) about the way the Pro runs through curves - especially through many left-right transitions.
I still keep waffling on the issue, though. We'll see.
Unfortunately, I forget what the name of the system or manufacturer is. I got it from JC Whitney, but I think they stopped carrying it in their catalog.
The only problem with the system is that it makes getting to the spare tire harder. Oh well, it does keep my junk in place. I was reminded how important that function is, as I was messing around back there last night and didn't snap a crate fully in place. Man, there was a lot of noise coming from back there on my morning commute! Naturally, things were scattered all over the trunk, but everything stayed in their crates...the crates were just sliding all over the place.
I guess if I didn't have this, I'd put things into big duffel bags and tie those down.
I'm also thinking about maybe just upgrading my 02 ES with MP3 suspension parts, though that gets costly fast, especially if you pay someone else to do the install. I got an estimate on installing the MP3 shocks, springs, and stabilizer bars. The labor costs almost rival the cost in parts. I can do much of it myself, but that front stabilizer bar frightens me the way it is pinned in by the sub-frame. We shall see.
So many good cars, so little time.

Since as you all know by now I'll add a 2nd PRO to our garage next November, I wanted to see how the 5spd ones feel, so I dropped by my friendly Mazda dealer and took one for a spin. He photocopied my license, got the car, and said "Take your time!".
The clutch felt a little hard and sensitive at first (less forgiving than Hondas), but I'll get the hang of it. Now, I'm used to my cousin's Z24, but I'll always remember how smooth the 99 or 00 Accord was when I drove it last year. The seating position was good, but I'll sure miss the black interior on my 01 ES.
So all in all, the Saturn coupe SC2 has been eliminated from my search: way too flimsy interior and cheap-looking.
Civics are too expensive.
Sentras are... well for the same $, I'd rather get a PRO.
Cavaliers/Sunfires are how should I say... not what I need and want.
Focus is unreliable and expensive.
I was also thinking about getting a 94 Maxima SE if not the PRO, but I think I'll go with the PRO. A year left.

The REAL reason Dale came over was to....surprise....do a two-step wax of her car! One coat of Meguiars Cleaner Wax, followed by a
generous coat of Meguiar's Gold Class. Her car looked great and I didn't mind helping her get the car Pro-Club worthy again. My wife
and kids were home, so not much likelihood of there being anything "extra" going on. That and the fact that I am desperately
in love with my WIFE and respect Dale too much as a friend...well, enough said.
I however put the "Protege" badge from a 2002 onto the back of my car to replace the silver-bar-Protege-boring-as-heck emblem that came
there in the first place. Easy to do and looks really nice. Cost = $27.00 for the part. Worth it? Yes...to me. And since I'm the only one who has to appreciate it, I love it.
Paul...Trigger is running great. Too great. Got a speeding ticket about a month ago for 22mph over. Also got the car sideways on the 294 North onramp from 290 East today. Talk about embarassing, spun
right in front of a guy I had just passed. I think the tires were cold and there was a little moisture on the road from an overhead drain. I really didn't think I was going into the turn that hot, but I must have overdone it. Oversteer on a downhill left-hander and the back end came around. Applied full counter-steer but it was too
late. No damage and the other cars stopped in time. They were even courteous enough NOT to blow their horns (or maybe they were (expletive)
in their pants thinking I would hit them???). Stupid move on my part.
Gotta wrap this up. Daughter needs to be in bed about 2 hours ago.
Regards (and Zoom Zoom Screeeeeeeeeeeech Spin )%&#%#@ @#$+*&^%!!! Cool no damage and didn't flat spot the tires, gotta get back up to speed and tuck my tail between my legs and hope no one I know saw that),

Dealer replaced mine before recall due to coil failure.
Just want to make sure that the new coils in my car are good ones.

This morning's news noted that my county decided last night to adopt the state's actions in full -- meaning, among other things ...
FOR THE FIRST TIME IN SIX MONTHS, I CAN WASH MY CAR AGAIN!!!
Zoomster and I will be heading home at 3:30 today for a long love session in the new driveway!!!
Yippee!!!

P.S. Maybe I'll take the Sony 5.2-megapixel Camera of Death home with me today and take a few "before and after" pics and post them over THERE ...
I have his e-mail address and I'll shoot him an e-mail to see what's up. Hopefully he's OK, but just busy with the new job. He does tend to appear and disappear, but I've never seen him gone for this long at a time.
If you're reading this, Larry, please come out of lurking and post.
Meade
And it has been awhile since Larry has posted here. I hope he's ok...
He said they didn't, but were expecting some next week. I guess with many customer-to-dealership inquiries, that would've been the end of the phone call. Not here!
"I'll call you when we get one in, and we can take it out for a spin and I'll buy you lunch."
Guys, I love my Mazda dealer! 11 years and five cars, and it looks like No. 6, in '06, will be a 6!
Uh-oh ... better call an exor6!

Did you get your r/c car yet?

I said that the RX-8 and Spec-V both employ what they call a multilink beam axle.
Hank said that "multilink" was the key word and that basically meant it was independent.
Then I said, "Now it sounds like it's really an independent suspension..."
Like I said, I'm not claiming I know anything about this. I'm just stating what I've read from the manufacturers.
I just follow up with a dab of green house paint on a paint brush (or a rag if my wife's using my car paint brush to clean the windowsills in the house). A little sandpaper blends it all in.
Wanna hear how I clean my windshield???
