.00106 is April, correct? And the MSD paydown is .0001 per month, correct (max 9 months)?

If Circle is still reading, what dealer did you work with in the Bay Area?

Yes.... and MSD money factor reduction is .0001 for each security deposit, up to a maximum of 9. That would lower the MF to .00016.

When I leased in 2011, it was 9... I made 9 on our G37X, and lowered the money factor from .00091 to .00001.. I don't have anyway to verify what it might be now.

You might want to check the "QX60 Prices Paid" discussion for selling prices.

It's a fine line .. here in Lease Questions we tend to deal more with the financial numbers surrounding a lease - money factor and residual. Neither my co-host nor I are good sources for prices, since we're not in the market. That's why we often refer folks to the "Prices Paid" discussion for the make/model; that's where you find folks who are actively shopping and getting price quotes.

The link to the QX60 prices paid forum is ... well, gosh, it turns out there isn't one.

    Oops.

However, I would suggest you use the shopping tools at the top of the page to build and price a QX60 and Edmunds will also provide the "True Market Value", which is the price others in your zip code have paid.

Once you get a price quote (and the MSRP), come on back and we can help you run the numbers so that you're comfortable knowing you've gotten the best deal possible.

Hi were quoted a a sales price of 48,195 (MSRP 52,485) plus Tax $1803.07,license,reg,fees $262.19,acquisition fee $700. The price they gave us with $1000 down is $592.16. I was hoping to keep my payments less then $550, with nothing down. Does this seem correct?

Compared to the Explorer and Acadia quotes you've posted, this seems pretty decent, especially for a luxury brand. I suspect the MF and residual are set up to encourage leasing.

    24/12 - 67% and .00105

    36/12 - 59% and .00105

For some Infiniti models, there are different residuals for different trims. Not for the QX60, however. All trims have the terms listed above.

Getting reading to pull the trigger and would like your opinion please. Looking at 2014 QX60 AWD MSRP $50,255, Selling price $46,500 39/10k payment quoted is $544.85/month with only first month due at signing. She is using a 59% residual but hasn't told me the MF. When I crunch the numbers I feel I should be around $525ish. Does that sound right to you? Thanks for the help!

Is there sales tax in Maine? If so, the pre-tax payment is taxed at that rate....

    Hi Michaell

My dealer says that some of the incentives/rebates on QX60 are only available for purchasing the car but not leasing it. Please help me understand how much of these rebates are for purchase-only, so I can estimate how much more should I pay over the true-market value if I was going to lease.

    Thanks.

trying to figure out cap number. sale price is $47,710, plus options $1394 (door guards, tint, wheel locks ...) fees $1307.76, taxes $3428.15. when calculating cap do I include fees, taxes and options? Do they usually charge for these options? should the options already be included in sale price? Thanks?

If the selling price is offered, with the vehicle configured as you want it (w/door guards, etc.), then, yes... it should include all that. If you got your price, then added all of those items in the finance office...then, it's probably more.

Whether fees and taxes get added to the CAP cost depends on whether you pay them upfront or roll them into the lease. The NET CAP cost is what gets financed. If you pay it upfront, then it's not in there.

I appreciate all the information from this forum, I have learned so much about the world of leasing. But I have a question.

I am in the DFW area and I am struggling to get the Infinity dealership dealer to lower the MF with MSDs, The sales guy was not really aware of this feature but the sales manager was to a point. We did not get to finance because we could not agree to a price, but then they indicated to me the lowest they would go an MF would be 0.00041 not the 0.0001 I see many folks saying they got.

I am looking at a QX60 FWD with Premium and Premium Plus with some additional options...

    • MSRP $48,500
    • 39 Month/12 k miles
    • Priced offered $45,652
    • Money Factor 0.00041 (with 5 MSDs, per sales guy)
    • Residual value at 57% (confirmed) = $26,021.64
    • Depreciation Value = $19,630.36
    • Fees (doc fee, marketing fee, Title, License) = $396.00
    • sales tax 6.25% = $2,853.25
    • Base Monthly Payment = $502.09
    • Fees and Taxes into lease, Monthly payment = $598.61

I did not move past the sales guy because his sales manager would not budge on 45.6k price, and TrueCar price indicated to me a $44,388 price and I was willing to go to $44,600. They are a True Car dealer and kept telling me that the price I was getting was for a purchase not a lease. I am not sure why that matters, but the sales person indicated the incentives to the dealer were not available to lease only to purchase the car.

I think I would be willing to take the $45,652 offer, what he called invoice, but only if the MF was reflective of what I see people and dealers offering on this site. The dealer in the DFW area were aware of MSDs but clearly they don't use them frequently.

So my first question, is the dealer increasing the MF? The sales manager told the sales person that 0.0001 would mean minimal profit. While that may be the case how are other folks getting the MSD option to that low? The sales manager did not agree to this MF because he called it their buy in price to the lease. I am calling BS on the excuse but apparently they were not willing to negotiate any lower. I could not confirm what their starting MF was BTW.

Another question, in Texas we have to pay taxes based on the Gross Cap, but do people generally roll this into the lease or do they pay it up front at execution?

I would appreciate any guidance. The salesman let me out of the store and said no deal since profit on the transaction was going to be too small. I enjoyed the experience frankly, i learned a bit and I learned that I can always walk away, but am I being unreasonable with regards to teh MF. Like I said I do think the gross price of the car should be 44.6k but I could survive 45.6k.

    Any thoughts?

I can confirm that in May, there was only a $1500 purchase incentive plus $750 for financing a purchase through IFS. There was no lease support from IFS except for the MF. One dealer also told me that June was the same.

For that reason my purchase price was above Truecar pricing, which reflects the purchase incentive. Ultimately I got mine for $1,800 below invoice.

As for security deposits, in my experience only the finance guys know how that works. Salesmen and sales managers are not very versed in lease calculations. Try to verify their buy rate MF for your car and assume you can do up to 8 or 9 deposits. Email other dealers to price match.

@jkipster, thank you for the response...

That is amazing to be so far below invoice, sounds like desperation on the dealer or you are the man. I can confirm that the Sales Manager indicated a buy rate of 0.0001, I mentioned it as a buy in price above, i apologize for my confusion in nomenclature.

I saw a printed sheet that the sales person gave me and he called it invoice price: $45,652, I am content with $1,000 below invoice for a sale price of approximately $44,600. TrueCar has $44,377 as the TruCar price, but they dealer had me at 0.00041 for the MF so I was not happy and walked away soley based on what people were getting with MSDs.

Lesson learned don't talk MSDs with the sales guy, just focus on the sale price of the car....

I am guessing the sale price is not that bad of a deal for this type of car, but I suppose I can work for more. and focus on the finance guy to work the magic for me, after the fact. I suppose I can walk away from the finance desk if I don't like the deal after it is calculated.

.00068 is the base... So, if you are getting .00041 after 5 MSDs, then they are marking up the rate to .00091.

I can't really comment on the selling price, as I'm not in the market. MSDs do cut into the profit of a dealer a little bit.. but, I've never had anyone balk at it. My local Infiniti salesman asked why I wasn't doing 9 MSDs, instead of only 7.. (BMW limits it to 7, and I never thought about Infniti offering more..)

The buy rate isn't .00001, unless of course, you are makng 7 MSDs to take it down that far..

@kyfdx@Edmunds‌ Thank you for your response. I got a little confused there. Is the buy rate the original MF (0.0068) you mention above or is it something else?

The base MF (aka "buy rate") is .00068 - .0068 equates to over 16%.

@stavmar, the things that worked in my favor:

    1. My market, Los Angeles, is one of the most competitive.

    2. I negotiated my deal right at month end, when dealers are highly motivated to close sales to hit their sales numbers.

    3. My dealer is the largest volume seller in CA, and maybe in the entire West. They are comfortable with lower margins, I guess.

    4. This is my third lease with said dealer, so they know I am a willing buyer if the numbers work for me. The salesman actually commented that he saw that I had visited their sister Volvo dealer, confirming to him that I was a serious buyer.

I suggest you keep in touch with this dealer through email and target the end of month for completing your lease. Also, contact other dealers through email to get some competitive quotes.

I also looked at the numbers you posted and they don't all look right. Your residual is 57% of your sales price, when it should be calculated off of your MSRP. (i.e. $27,645) But your base payment of $502 works if the $396 is capped to your sales price (i.e. net cap cost of $46,048) with a MF of 0.00041.

@Michaell Details in the decimals, thank you.

@jkipster‌ Thank you for the correction, I must have transcribed it incorrectly... So my situation is as follows and I guess the question is if this is a good deal for a lease, or perhaps I should ask is it a fair one?

    • QX60 FWD Premium [P01] and Premium Plus [P02] with these options:
    • [N10] Illuminated Kick Plates $440 MSRP
    • [B93] Rear Bumper Protector $210 MSRP
    • [B92] Splash Guards (Color-Matched Set Of 4) $205 MSRP

    • 39 Month/12,000 miles

    • $48,500 MSRP
    • $45,652 Agreed Price
    • $396 Dealer Fees (DF, Marketing, DMV)
    • $700 Acquisition Fee
    • $2853.25 Taxes (6.25% Texas)
    • $27,645 Residual Value (57%)
    • 0.00068 MF (No MSDs, I will deal with that in the finance office)

I am calculating a $511.56 monthly payment with NOTHING rolled in.

I would probably pay the following in cash at signing and not roll it in...

    $511.98 (1st Month) + $700 Acquisition Fee + $2853.25 State Tax + $396 Dealer Fees
The total due at inception = $4460.81

    Is the Acquisition Fee taxed?

This seems high to me. The lowest Monthly Payment these guys showed me was around $690 per month which I assume is due to taxes rolled into the lease along with all the other fees. When I recalculate with the roll in I am seeing around $615.51 monthly payment.

I am OK with paying the fees taxes up front to help reduce interest paid on those things rolled in.

The dilemma is how many MSDs will I want to make to sweeten the deal. I really hit a brick wall with 0.0001 MFs that many have posted here, but the lowest I heard the sales manager, not Finance, agree to was 0.00041. This would take $1,500 additional dollars at signing for a $20 reduction per month or $20 x 39 months = $780 of savings for the duration of the lease and my MSD back ($1,500) or a ~52% cumulative return on my investment (~16% annually) over 3.25 years (39 months).

Based on my review of this forum, I am just not seeing others pay that amount at signing and seem to have a lower monthly payment which lends me to believe that my agreed price is just too high.

    Thoughts?

I also wanted to share (see attachment) this nice copy of an actual lease form from Infinity that a writer for the NYT did in the Manhattan Infinity dealer for a G37x. Pretty nice to have this as a primer when I walk into the finance office.
