    Thank you.
Is this how you got it:

    Total cost: 46135+854+389+138+725=48241
Residual: 0.59x50200:29618 (Is my assumption correct here, the residual is multiplied by the MSRP and not the cap cost)

    48241-29618=18623
    18623/39: 478

    (48241+29618)x0.0013=101

    478+101: 580 pretax

    Am I doing this right?
    Thank you

Exactly! I'm getting $578.73 but I'm showing 2 decimal places in my math whereas you're rounding to the nearest dollar.

I need some help, i just got in a 2013 C250 Coupe October 25th and I want to get out of it, bought it for 28,9 and came out with the total being financed as 32,9. Mo. Payment 509. Can I get out of this car? I want to get into a 428i, with tech and msport pacckages ideally under 550 a month? I dont care how many months I have to lease but I want out of this car. My first payment is about a month away.

You can get out of anything with enough money..
Would I be upside down on the 3k in taxes that was tacked onto the loan? Because I haven't even made the first payment..

Head over to the "Real World Trade in Values" discussion for an honest assessment of your current car. If the taxes were added to the loan you will be responsible for them should you decide to trade.

What is so wrong with the MB that you want to get rid of it after only 2 weeks?
Nothing is wrong with it, I just don't like it anymore. But thanks for the info!

One question I have how does the dealer calculate excess mileage cost, say I am getting a 39m/15K lease, how is that extra 5K over the standard 10K miles per year calculated into the lease. Thank you

My dealer sent the following to me in an email:

"the $1k UDE and $1k college grad go towards downpayment they have to populate on the "rebate" line on contract"

How does this affect me if I use my bank financing vs. leasing thru BMW?

    Thanks,

That's if you purchase during the lease term. Actually, it's 0.15/mi. purchased upfront or $0.20 /mi. at the end of the lease. The new program is pretty nice, because you can make that payment for mileage all the way up until the last day of the lease... It used to be that you had to do it at least 6 months in advance...

The benefit of buying the miles upfront (other than the slight discount) is that the cost is amortized over your full lease term, rather than owing a lump sum..

Looking to help my father figure out a lease deal on a 435xi Convertible. Found the car he's looking for but was hoping you could help me with the lease calculations.

Total MSRP is $66,975 (that includes destination charge of $950). Only looking for 10K miles per year and we are in PA. He'll be trading in his old BMW but will be lucky to get $3,000 for it.

I'll leave it up to my dad to negotiate the sale price of the car but was hoping you could provide some guidance on the current MF, the residual, and approximate negotiated price to shoot for (maybe $62,500??).

    Thanks for your help.

.00130 is the MF this month for all BMW's. Is this a leftover 2014 or a new 2015 that he's looking at? Also, what lease term?

Use the pricing tools (Make, Model, Year) at the top of the page to help you establish a target price.

39 months is the preferred term this month .. better residual than 36 months.

    39/10 residual for 2015 435xi Convertible is 61%. $1000 holiday cash available.

thanks, trying to figure out the lease payment...if the MSRP is 66,975 with a 61% residual and a .0013 MF where would i input the 3K down from the trade and the 1K holiday cash? If i assume the negotiated price is $63,000 i end up with lease payments of $702 if i followed your formula properly but i dont know where to deduct the trade of 3K and the holiday credit. would that just reduce the total cost price from $63,000 to $59,000?

That would be one way to utilize the trade equity and holiday cash. Remember, though, there are other up front costs - acquisition fee, license and tags, perhaps sales tax - that would consume the equity and incentive monies.

Get the dealer to break down the up front costs for you - that will tell you how much of the $4k will go to cap cost reduction.

I don't know the tax obligations where you live, but with the numbers you've provided I show a pre-tax payment of $558.17/mo.

Ah! Texas also applies the tax to the entire purchase price, not just to the monthly payment or total depreciation. That will make your lease payment much larger.

Considering 435i convertible, IS 350C or Q60 convertible and was wondering which of the three has the best MF & RV for 39 mo lease with 12k miles/yr. From what I'm seeing, it looks like the MF on the BMW is higher than the Lexus & Infinity. Is that the case?

Ok. I finally received the final terms on the 2015 428i GC.

    MSRP: $57,035
    Cap Cost: $50,640 ($52,990 invoice - $1,350 - $1,000 holiday Credit)
    Lease Term: 39 mos.
    MF: .00130
    Residual: 62% on 10K
    Monthly Lease Pymt: $503.55 + 9% CA tax $45.32 = $548.87

    Drive Off estimate: $548.87+ $725 (acquisition fee) + ~$750 (registration/fees) - $1,000 UDE -$1,000 College Grad incentive.

    Does this look right?

    Michaell,

my dad is making headway on the 435 i mentioned above...MSRP is 66,975 and the negotiated price can down to $61,305 (the dealer said that includes the holiday credit). If his trade is worth $3,000 on a 10K 39 month lease in PA would his after tax monthly payment be $628? Then at delivery he'd need to pay 1st month, tax, tags, and bank fee all told about $1,775?

Does that look right to you? He is waiting to hear back from the dealer but i want to make sure he has the right info. Thanks again!

How is the trade equity being applied? Cap cost reduction? I would think so since he's still being asked to come up with almost $1800 for first payment, tax, tags, fees, etc.

$3000 works out to about $77/mo over 39 months, so his true payment is closer to $700/mo. On a $67K car that's OK but he might be able to do better.

He might want to look into using the trade equity as MSD ... this will lower the MF used and he will get than money back at lease end.

ok, i will look into the MSD. is there a set calculation on how much the MF will decrease for each MSD?

    .00007 per each MSD, up to a maximum of 7.. 7 X .00007 = .00049 MF reduction.

Why is there tax included in a balance due, if you are leasing? In CA, the monthly payment is taxed, not paid upfront.

I'm not sure. Is that something I can tell them to take out? Would that lower the amount due? Thank you for helping!!

.00130 and 57% for 36/15. Add 2% for 12K. 39 month numbers are not competitive.

I'd ask the dealer to provide a detailed breakdown of the up front costs. Tax should not be included.

Does $1k holiday credit apply to all 435i convertible deals for month of November? Regardless of whether it's a 2014, 2015 lease or purchase?

No holiday cash on 2014 435i convertible. $1000 for 2015 model - I believe that is valid for either lease or purchase.

This is the national (or regional) deal .. you can do better on your own.

We don't recommend making a down payment on a lease - if the car is stolen or totaled, you are out the money. Only money up front should be for first months payment, fees and tags/license.

Good counsel, TY. Can I assume then that'd if I had them remove the 3000 DP or if I went somewhere "on my own", then it'd be roughly $77 more per month?

To be clear, if you go somewhere "on your own" you can get a much better deal. The money down part doesn't have anything to do directly with how good/bad the deal is but since it reduces the monthly payment it makes the deal look a lot better than it is to most people.

Correct - the total money spent doesn't change, just the calculus of the monthly payment.

What are the MF and RV for 2014 428i? 36mo\10k and 39mo\10k.

If 2014 numbers are not available what are the 2015 numbers?

    Lease/Tax Strategy.

VA applies taxes to the entire purchase price, not just to the monthly payment or total depreciation.

Would you recommend rolling the tax into the lease payments or paying it separately as part of the up front cost (both choices are available in VA)

I read your comments regarding not recommending making a down payment on a lease from the point of view of being out of the money if the car is totaled or stolen. I wonder if the same logic applies to taxes.

I feel the same way about taxes, if due upfront.. On a $50K car, that's about $2000 in VA, right? Rolled into the lease, you are covered by GAP, in case of total loss.. that pays the tax bill, as well... If you had paid the tax out of pocket, the state is not going to refund that, I don't think..
