    Hi all,
On my GMC2500 I have the extendable towing style mirrors. On the drivers side, there is a convex mirror portion so you can see in the blind spot etc. On the Passengers side there is not one of these. Is there a replacement mirror piece I can get to match the drivers side? It is very helpful when switching lanes and backing up. I know the Ford superdutys have it on both sides. I guess I could get a stick on piece, but would prefer to just get a darn matching piece on that side.

Did you ever find a 3" lift kit?I know Trailmaster makes a 6" lift and with it you can use up to 35" tires. You can go up to 33" without lifting, what size tires do you want?

I am about to purchase a new HD2500 Silverado and need to know the REAL gas mileage on the 6.0L, Auto with 4:10's and the 8.1L with the Allison and the 3:73's. Help

    Thanks
  • mgdvhmanmgdvhman Member Posts: 4,157
    My 2K 2500 6.0/4:10 started out at 12.5...and with 40K started getting mid 15's..

some others have reported that or even less than 12's.....depends on yer driving and altitude....and the individual engine..

    overall average I'd say 12-13 for a 6.0/4:10

Now the 8.1/3:73 people have said the same numbers above....all the way to 10! or less. Count on say 11 for the 8.1/3:73 combo....with a possible bonus.

There is no way to tell the "real" numbers......buy what ya want.

My 8.1L/Alli with 4.10's seems to consistantly get 11 mpg in town with lots of bumper to bumper traffic. Highway seems to average about 13.

Does anyone know why GM doesn't included this with the truck like Ford does?

Where's a good place to get the 2 long sides and the front covers made of the ABS plastic???

My 6.0L 2500 has a popup camper on board, and weighs 7400lbs rolling down the road. For 27K miles I have averaged 15.0mpg overall. Low was 10-11 with alot of 4wd low-range rock crawling in Death Valley. High mileage was 16.7mpg cruising on the highway. Mileage would be better without the weight and wind drag of the camper, but I'm happy with a 15mpg average.

Low around 10 towing 5,000 lbs. Get 12 to 14 running around town and running up to 80mph on highway fairly empty. All around 7,000' elevation.

My '01 2500HD with the 8.1/Allison, 3.73, got 12 mpg on the last tank. I've towed and got 10. The 1st tank was just over 12. I think it's getting better, slowly. It's at about 2500 miles now. The 2000 6.0L/4.10 I had got 13.5 with a load of camping gear at 80mph on the pike. It had around 3000 miles on it at the time. That one didn't get along with maple trees too well, but I must say I'm an air bag believer!

Traded for a 2002 GMC SLE Ext Cab 4x4, Duramax/Allison/Eaton on the 17th. Got 18 miles per gallon on the first tank, even with stop, go and construction. Very pleased so far. I like the extendable visors, except I removed the yellow tag on the passenger side, and part of the glue and things didn't come off of it, and I will be getting a sticker to replace the one I removed. Oh, and those little donuts have to go!!!

That is the picture the dealer had up on the net. It is much for now than, taking pictures with my Pentax SLR, getting them develloped, getting my scanner going again, starting a picturerail account, uploading them, ext.

I plan to eventually, but I am TOO BUSY DRIVING!!! ;)
oh, and pricing tires, spray-in bedliner, accessories, ect

I'm ready to trade up for a new Max/Ali. How is the noise factor both inside and out? How does the noise compare to Dodge/Ford diesels? I'm used to the relative quiet sounds of a 5.3 Silverado. But with the new piston slap and hydraulic tap dancing, it might as well be a diesel!
  • quadrunner500quadrunner500 Member Posts: 2,721
It's not as quiet as a 5.3L. It's not so noisy you can't comfortably listen to the stereo with the volume turned down low. The Dodge I can't speak for. The Fords have gotten much more quiet themselves. My friends 97 Powerstroke is almost unbearable, another friend with 2001 Powerstroke is very livable.

Thanks to all for the input on the gas mileage.

After much contemplation, many hours of discussion with my significant other, and going back and forth with GMC Sierra's and Silverado's I have ordered a truck.

Unfortunately for me I could not find a dealer that would honor my GM Supplier Discount on an off lot vehicle, only a special order.

I have ordered a 2002 - Sierra HD2500 Crew Cab SLE, Duramax, Allison, Locking Rear Diff., Tow Pkg., etc. Loaded except for LT equipment which was really only ON-Star, leather and deluxe power buckets. I could not justify over $2000.00 for that stuff.

Anyway sticker was $42,103.00 and the GMS is supposed to come in around $36,944.00 and I may qualify for GMO which will drop the truck to $35,567.00. I also have a $1000.00 voucher for the GM side fuel tank settlement which I can apply as well.

I don't know when I'll get it, I was told maybe 3-4 months??? Anyone ordered a truck know lead time.

Again thanks to all for the input.

    Sincerly,

    MrMILK

Just be warned when u combine certain
gm supplier discounts with that gas tank
    settlement certificate..Mr GM WILL NOT
let u have the whole 1000 bucks. Ask
    again............Geo

    sonjaab,

I had the Dealer look into the Northeast Zone restrictions and they did not find anything that would prevent the certificate from being honored. It would have dropped to $500.00 after July 18th, 2002.

    Thanks!!!

I know when lawyers give something away there has always got to be a catch!!

I too have a 2002 GMC Sierra Duramax/Allison SLT loaded on order and to date it's been 18 weeks (130 days, but who's counting). I've been told that GM has yet to accept the order and it's sitting in the "order pool". Problem is I believe the dealer doesn't have an allocation and until he does, I'm waiting.
  • mledtjemledtje Member Posts: 1,123
When your dealer doesn't have an allocation (or used his allocations on trucks you don'w want) it may be a good idea to find another dealer, who has an allocation, and get your truck on order.

A couple of years ago my dad waited 6 months and then found out he wouldn't get his truck. Went to another dealer and found it in stock!

My 99 took 13 weeks, my 2000 took 6 weeks from order to delivery.

    Mike L
  • richcolorichcolo Member Posts: 81
I agree with mledtje. While I've been waiting 101 days, my order was accepted into GM's system on the 62nd day, and production is "targeted" for next week. SO once your order gets to GM it seems that your looking at about 6 weeks before it's built, and then delivery time. That 8-10 week estimate looks about right once the order is in. If your dealer hasn't had the allocation you need an you've been waiting since June, I think it's time to find another dealer. Rumor has it that some dealers aren't even "Duramax Certified" and that they will NEVER have an allocation for a D-max truck (until and unless they become certified).
  • urcndusturcndust Member Posts: 4
the other dealers in this area don't want to deal and have told me I would have to wait for an allocation from them too. I have not found one on a dealer lot I am willing to settle for, so my option is to wait, which I am patiently doing, besides this will be used mostly for pulling my camper and boat and they are both put away for the winter. As long as it gets here before spring, I'll be happy.
  • sonjaabsonjaab Member Posts: 1,057
    From Oct 00 to may 01 for a 8.1 2500 xcab
    4x4 black......Finally gave up a got a 6.0
After seeing the mpg that 8.1s get I guess
    the 6.0 will do..good luck..........Geo
  • sonjaabsonjaab Member Posts: 1,057
It won't be in the northeast zone restrictions
rules..It will be in the GM dealer rules.
When i bought my 01 ld 2500 in may combining
gm employee discount with the rebate and 2.9
gmac interest, GM mastercard bonus points and
the gas tank cert. The rules said gas tank cert.
max value for me was 250 bucks.........
Maybe its changed.....or the dealer don't
know...if so good for you.....While your
looking around here check the GM gas tank
    settlement certificate thread righr here
in the pickup thread and read others
experience with them....Don't let the dealer
pull a FAST one on you.........Geo

Ordered 2500HD 6.0 ec on April 13. Order was accepted on June 13. Truck finally built on Oct.15. Told truck would be in on Oct 28. Now told truck would be in Nov. 7. Who knows. I have lost interest at this point. Just beware and check your order every once in a while and make sure that a certain option isn't holding it back. You could eliminate that option if you want and it will speed up delivery. In my case it was the dual batteries that held up the truck 6 times. Anyway sorry to [non-permissible content removed] and good luck..

    I hear ya....I waited 7 months..took a 6.0 instead
NOW !...they have 8.1 allies (almost)
EVERYWHERE on the lot and they are discounting
    them !!!!!!!!!........geo

    BTW: No regrets either....

Well it has been a while since I really posted (1year). I had a 2000 1/2 LT, etc... sold it 2 months ago. Just ordered a 2500HD... loaded 8.1L/Allison etc...

I ordered it on Tuesday Oct 30th, today the guy who does the ordering (we built and ordered it together) called me and said we have a tenative TPW of 11/19/01!! Hope this stands, but if not I'm not in a hurry. We'll see.

What color flairs do you think you'll get ?
    Something to think about !!
Hunter you are lucky...nice body color ones !
  • urcndusturcndust Member Posts: 4
If I can believe the sales literature, it says Polo Green Metallic and flares same color. I guess it's just going to be a surprise. After they make you wait for so long, you won't care anyway.

Any 3500 owners? Being that it comes only in the DRW configuration. I'm thinking about getting one, probably not locally cause there are none on the dealer lots. Wonder how it rides empty as compared to the C/K.

I just started this link, but I figured GM truck fans here might also be interested too.

As I mentioned in the link, the cabs are from the full-size "G" vans, and not the Silverado, which leads me to wonder...

Why didn't GM also do this with their just-released HD 2500/3500 models—that is, use the larger, taller cab from from the "G" models instead of the cab from the 1500/2500 Silverado? In doing so, the 2500HD/3500 models would be more visually distinctive from the lighter duty 1500/2500s, much in the same way the Ford Super-Duty pickups are from the F-150s.

After 1700 plus miles, still love the truck. The Kelly AWR tires are wonderful. Wet traction seems fine, the mud traction is worlds better than the stock tires. The 1 1/2 inch increase in ground clearance is great too. The road noise is minimal with the kelly AWR tires. The only rub on the drivers side rear well by just a little bit, and I am sure I could fix this very easily, but it isn't very much of an issue right now. I didn't have to trim the air dam or adjust the torsion bars either. I think these will be great tires, and they finally make the truck look right. (Warning, purchase of these tires will make you want to spend several hundred on side steps!!!) The speedometer and odometer now read off by 9.3%. The odometer shows 91.5 miles after traveling 100 miles. When it shows 100, I have traveled 109.3 miles.

    The RPMS were

    Before with 245 (.71/1) now with 255x85 (.71/1)
    60 1760 2479 1610 2268
    75 2201 3099 2013 2835
    85 2494 3515 2282 3216

Worst tank has been 12 mpg with no trips over 5 miles, 17 engine hours and an average speed of 14 mph. With lots of towing. Best tank was 2nd tank with 19 mpg, before adding tires, and during break in. Got 14 last tank with the new tires (after adjustment), but this contained city, country, towing and some high speed interstate short distance.

Took 2 hours to install the right sided Westin CPS step and 1/2 hour to install the drivers side after I figured out how to do it!!! hehe

    Best of luck

    Hunter

Do you have any pictures of the tires - before and after?

  • hunter98hunter98 Member Posts: 273
I had pictures posted on this site somewhere of the truck on the dealers lot. I haven't taken any pictures with my 35 mm yet. Stock it looked like any other stock 2500HD. The kellys are outlined white lettered. They go 1 1/2 inches up, forward, backward and down from the stock tire. The only rubbed on the drivers side rear wheel insert, which I will fix when I get time by tyeing it back. Made the truck 1 1/2 inches taller.

Sorry I can't help in that regard yet.

I just bought a 2002 Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab. I would like to put a bug shield on it but I read something about it making a lot of noise. Is it not worth doing? Can I get more details on this please? Thanks.

Get 3M invisible bra instead. Preserves the original good looks, no problem with wind noise.
