10 months left on lease, but only 6k left on warranty. Hmmm, sounds like its going to be an early exchange on this one. One thing I know for sure about vehicles in general, they have a knack of knowing the warranty expiry date and will make you pay the very next day. Although some dealerships are good about that, I would rather not find out any more.

Several companys make kits to make them work the way they should....by the switch!....as well as kits to make all 4 come on with high beams...as well as DRL's off...as well as fogs stay on when shut off....etc...

    Good luck

Just about every truck place on-line has them

Well I went off road yesterday, and uh 'o I got stuck. All 4 wheels were spinning but no go. The front end was about 3iin off the ground after digging a big whole with the front tires. I had to have a neighbor pull me out with his dodge. I guess Oregon mud isn't the same as California mud. I took some pics of the aftermath after I got out.

even a Tundra or Dodge would look good....
  • 99crewcab199crewcab1 Member Posts: 79
...especially when it's you dad's truck that's in a foot of mud. I don't think a Tundra would have made it though. It's trailer hitch would probably be ripped out of it's flimsy frame.

No I owned both, I got a good price to trade and I jumped on it since I wanted a 4th door. I think from now on I will trade about every time there is a few miles left on the warranty. Seems like the best time to trade as far as the vehicle cost per mile is conserned. It helps to get the Commercial and College Grad deals onto the price too, and any other incentives that are offered. I think I will try and trade in Nov 2001 for a 2500 HD 8.1L with the Allison.

    Best of luck Hunter

Oh yeah, it will cost ALOT more to trade this time

...thanks for the information on the tire calibration. I probally call my dealership next week to see if they will do it. Nice model trucks, how does it feel to own 3 Silverados? At least 2 of them will be easy to keep clean but not as much fun to drive!

    Thanks

You wouldn't happen to know the tsb number. My dealership is kinda slow so it would be nice to be able to tell them the number so they wouldn't have try to find it.

Hunter - Great choice to look forward to in Nov. '01. LT should have climate control then also-- Hope i have mine by then!!! :-(
Did you see the 12.5 mpg on the 'burb?

Ryan - No dice at our Wallgreens. only had a proche or something left - Kit looks nice - Back of box has a distributer address etc. Could you post that - The die cast is what i'm looking for- have enough radio controled airplanes :-)

The first one is for the Steering

    http://agmlemon.freeservers.com/latest_tsb.htm

This is for a summary listing of many TSB's issued

    http://agmlemon.freeservers.com/GeneralBulletins.html

I have actual copies of some that are listed on Clay's site. If you e-mail me with a fax number, I will try to send out what you need. Remember though the employment of the TSB is up to the dealer. Nice to have the info so that the dealer knows YOU are informed, but it may also insult him as well.

I saw someone said they Got 12.5 MPG with the 8100 and Allison in a Burb, whats up with the Allsion in the Burb, I thought they weren't gonna put those in there. I hope there is, that would make it even a better vehicle. The burb should be about the same weight as the HD or even heavier with that setup and not as aerodynamic because of the large flat surface on the back. 12.5 sounds pretty good, my 5.3 averages 13.5 on the highway and hasn't got near the power. It wants to rev to do anything. I have a deep longing for TORQUE!!! :) Anyways may be shopping for dad a new pickup in a couple of weeks. He Wants a 1500 Ext Cab 4x4 SLE, and me to get the HD, I want it the other way around since I drive 20k a year and he drives 8k and since he would keep it for 10 years the HD makes since with that Allison and 8100. It would be handy and hold up on the farm. We know we don't need to have two half tons. Oh well, as long as we have the TRUCK when we need it.

    Happy New Year

the burbs don't have the Allison. The 8100 in the burbs are detuned and recieve beefed up 4L80's.

...I was playing around with numbers today....if i got a 2500 LT Burb with an 8.1....and took the equity from the current 00 2500 LT Ado.....and put it down on the burb.....payment would be the same for a Burb that has a 11K more MSRP....

    hmmmmmm

$46K is hard to swallow for a truck though...

    hmmmmm

    $40,700 Invoice.......$38,500 with GMO..

    hmmmm

    I need a bed though!

too bad the Avalanche looks like crap!

    GRRRRRR

....I found a button above 2-HI tonight...it said Auto.....musta been Auto-Pilot!....cuz it worked damn good!

    LOL

    Enjoy......(I know I have)

Up at school between 5:30 and 6:30 everything stops. The big screen (projector tv) is turned to fox and the simpsons are on. How can you not like them? It has become a family tradition at 5:30 to sit down for dinner and turn on the simpsons. Even my dad (46 yrs old) turns on the tv before me or my bro to fox to watch it.

If you can't figure out the difference in the two shows, I can't help you. Watching a goofy cartoon family just doesn't cut it for me....rather watch Fred Flinstone or Beverly Hillbillies reruns. Now Jethro drove what you could call a truck....

Back to trucks before you know who comes around deleting posts....

So what's wrong with your tailgate?
  • ryanbabryanbab Member Posts: 7,240
Well dean you know at the right how thats the removable side? You slide that off to takeit off? Well about a month ago i open the tailgate and it came off in my hand. They are replacing that part that is bolted to the truck and the piece that is bolted to the tailgate on the side. They think the origional piece is bent. We will see next wk.

Also hopefully im going to call in the next 30 min ill have an appt to fix the steering shaft too

Looks like my next tires will cost a pretty penny. Costco has Michelin LT265/75R16 tires at $149.95 each. Include $7.00 for mounting and balancing and I'll be out $627.80. That's about $200.00 more than my 235s cost me in 1996. Ouch! I hope I get 50k out of my Wilderness ATs before they need replacing.

The only problem with the blackwalls is that people cannot "see" the new tires as well, which, I assume is why you are getting some new ones after only 10,000 miles. (not criticizing you because I did the same thing!) I must admit, though, that with all of the black parts on your truck the blackwalls would look better. Oh yeah, you asked opinions on that charcoal and black truck. That is probably one of the best looking silverados that I have seen.

$600 some dollars isnt bad mine are costing me $749 plus tax.

Ok got an appt for the truck to be fixed (steering shaft may need to be ordered grrrrrr) for next friday.

I'm on the verge of getting a new truck. What kind of problems have you guys seen with your vehicles (Silverados since this is the Silverado board). What do you like/hate about them. What options can't you live without?

    Any input is appreciated

    Thanks
  • blackmax200blackmax200 Member Posts: 255
    get everything else!

Seriously though the options one gets on their truck is based on immediate and immediate future needs. I could tell you that I haven't had problems(except with the stupid dealer service department that doesn't believe in customer service or proper follow-up) with my Z-71 xcab LS two tone trailer package flares wheels and 265's, but that might not fit your needs. Then again you may not like folding paper maps or may habitually lock keys in the ignition...in that case On-Star is for you.

Others on here who are more experienced wiser and have bigger and badder trucks will tell you stories also, but you have to be the one who looks through the option list and says, "that's for me" As for the comparison between the Chevy and Ford, that's one that won't fly here...both have good points both have areas for improvement. Gotta buy what ya like...as for me, I couldn't do without my outside temp compass and auto dimming inside mirror.

Though this may sound like a flame, it is not! The previous 17 issues of this discussion in archive hold the real answers to the question.

Ive had minor problems with my truck

    1500 Z71 ext cab 2000

    1.Dash rattle (fixed myself)
    2.Trans lugging (computer updated)
3.Tailgate when putting down occasionally comes off i think someone tried to steal it and bent a part (replacing part next friday)
4.Steering shaft rattle needs replacing (next friday also)

just a little over 10K miles and i love this thing. Definitly autotrac its great.

TIRES!!! Get the cheapest then dump them for a good set when you get your truck

    Whatever you choose good luck

my truck has been great, 2000 GMC ext cab 4x4. It has only been to the dealer once for transmission slippage at take off. All they had to do was update the computer. That solved it. The majority of my family has always owned GM truck and we have never had any probs. I love the 5.3. When GM dropped the 350 I was a little worried about the performance of these trucks. There are no worries anymore, they're awesome. Did i mention they're good chick picker upers?

Blackmax is right. Drivethe different makes, then decide which is for you evryone's needs and desires are different. I have a 2000 x-cab, LB, 4x2 with the 4.8 and auto. I drove the full size pickups from all the big 3 pus the Dakota quad cab. A big factor for me was the Chevy had the best rear seating. Also, I just felt most comfortable in the Chevy's cab. Everything just seemed like it was where it was supposed to be. Interesting since this is the first GM product I've owned. I probably would have bought the F-150 as my second choice.

Locking differential is a good option for not a lot of money.
  • obyoneobyone Member Posts: 7,841
Was thinking about buying a truck...so.....thought to myself...where is the closest truck dealer...Well right around the corner was a Chevy dealer. So I ended up with a rado....could have gone the other way and ended up with a Lightning.

    None on my '99 LT 1500 2wd. 18,000 miles.
  • bsilerbsiler Member Posts: 30
I've never owned anything but M. 1974 4wd {which I still have}, 1988 4wd {put 165,000 miles on it, transmission rebuild under warranty at 6100 and 7100 after that no problems} and now a 00 2500 ex cab 4wd. The 00 I've had a dry seal, they are trying to find a fix for the rear end launch vibration and I need the throttle body replaced. BUT I like the truck. The 74 is by far the toughest truck but a little rough on the ride {no real rough}.

    Just like Chewy's

I have a 2000 LS which now has 10000 miles. Truck has been flawless up till now. There seems to be something loose in the steering. I detect it most around 30 MPH turning a slight corner. It's like the steering wheel is loose but it's not. Is this the "steering shaft" problem that I'm reading about????
  • sloopsloop Member Posts: 2
I've driven the 4.8 (and 5.3)2001 extended cab Z71. The 4.8 has plenty of power for what I'll be hauling and towing. I hope it will get about 2 mpg better and it saves $800 off the initial price. Is re-sale going to be tougher? I'm more interested in fuel economy than the initial price difference and would appreciate any comments regarding mpg. Any other reasons not to go with the 4.8? From my 'research' it looks like they both get better mileage than the F150s...

    Thanks
  • tucsonjwttucsonjwt Member Posts: 265
stayed put on freeway up to 85 mph(as fast as I drive) but you get the normal rippling vinyl in the wind like any tonneau. Allows you to open the tonneau without undoing all of the snaps - or undo snaps where you want in conventional fashion. Looks good. Rolls up with all of the bows and end cap into a package up next to the cab for hauling tall items. I bought it so I wouldn't have to keep cleaning out the box - especially bird excrement -really shows up on white. Now I'm considering bedrug bedliner - never haul anything in the box anyway.
  • tucsonjwttucsonjwt Member Posts: 265
Only defect at about 5K was bad fuel injector - dealer replaced it and flushed all other injectors, put in a bottle of fuel system cleaner. No problems since then - at 9K now. Service advisor recommended Chevron for the Techron additive (which is what the dealer uses to clean injectors), so I use only Chevron now and dump in a can of Techron injector cleaner at every 3 month oil change. I strongly recommend not letting the fuel get too low and using good gas and injector cleaner - these engines are so leaned out you need all of the insurance against fuel problems you can get.
Features I like: Gas Mileage: usually 20 city/27 highway - best I ever heard of on a full size truck, and 4.3L V6 has plenty of pep for me - suspect it would haul/tow OK except for very heavy loads. A/C is good. Lots of advanced features and electronics even on my stripper. Handling with rack and pinion steering is much better than older pickups - nice light feel to the front end. Engine now runs very smoothly, better than any other truck I have driven, and better than most cars I have driven.
Features I don't like: Small things - driver's side floor is not flat(there is a bump on the floor where I normally stretch out my left foot on my old 74 Chevy 3/4 PU), just bugs me that they couldn't find another place for whatever is under that bump; dust gets into the instrument cluster because of the big hole around the odomoter adjustment pin; stock ride is too bouncy (improved with Edelbrock IAS shocks and velvet ride shackles), but this is normal for 1/2 ton long beds; stripper like mine does not have fold down armrest(I would get a GMC which does have a fold down armrest if I had it to do over again); heater is a little weak for such a big cab.
Conclusion: Base model worth the money if you plan to keep it a long time, upscale models make me wonder if you can get more enjoyment/return on investment out of an extra $10,000 somewhere else.
Caution: you can get a lemon in any make or model - life is a gamble and you roll the dice with whatever you do.
    Good Luck

What you discribe sure sounds like the intermediate steering shaft. I recently had mine replaced (under warrenty) and the "general clunkiness" in the steering went away. The part number listed on the Service Invoice for the shaft is #26085548. I'm not sure whether or not there's a tsb out on it, though. Maybe Obyone knows. Ryan is fixing to get his replaced next week. I'm sure we'll all hear all about it!

It's not you, it's the crappy spell checker. Instead of giving you the option to accept or reject potential errors it flagged, the spell checker automatically makes "corrections". I use the spell checker to spot any real errors, then I back up, make any necessary corrections and post. Never post directly from the spell checker unless it says no errors.
